Apply for the Siegele Conservation Science Internship!

The Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP) is selecting interns for the summer of 2024. This is a paid summer internship ($15/ hour). The Siegele Interns will spend the summer of 2024 (May 14-July 23) with CNHP staff working on conservation projects in the field throughout Colorado. This is a chance to get experience working and living in the field. No prior experience is necessary to apply. Most of the interns are Juniors or Seniors but Sophomores are also encouraged to apply.

Experimental and Computational Materials Research Internship NSF Division of Materials Research (DMR) supported Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is inviting applications for the Summer 2024 program. REU-projects are available in five research clusters: (1) computational materials research/machine learning (2) materials under extreme conditions (3) materials for energy applications, (4) materials for sensors and laser applications, and (5) biomaterials for implants, tissue engineering and drug delivery applications. This is an in-person research model.

The undergraduates will conduct the analysis of data generated in their research projects and make presentations on completed research to faculty mentors and other undergraduates taking part in this program. We require all REUs to take part in a campus-wide expo at the end of the program.

The program will offer 10-weeks of research from May 19, 2024 - July 26, 2024. The program will pay $6,000 over the entire 10-week period involving 400 hours of research with a faculty mentor at UAB (based on a 40-hour work week).

2024 Summer Biomedical Undergraduate Internship

Each accepted fellow will be matched based on their interests, to a laboratory led by a Frankel CVC faculty member.

This collection of laboratories is involved in internationally recognized research in topics such as atherosclerosis, genetic cardiomyopathies, blood clotting disorders, cardiac arrhythmias, vascular biology, and heart failure. Fellows will be paid bi-weekly at a rate of $15/hour for ten weeks of fulltime (40 hours/week) work.

The program includes weekly scientific seminars and coffee hours, social events, and a twoday research symposium when fellows will present their research to their peers, FCVC faculty, and staff.

College of Liberal Arts Undergraduate Academy Program Dr. Erika Szymanski (English department and microbiome cluster) is seeking four undergraduate researchers to investigate multispecies democracy through the spring 2024 semester, as part of the College of Liberal Arts undergraduate academy program. Together, the team will 1) identify, collate, summarize, and synthesize existing literature on multispecies or more-than-human democracy; 2) identify outstanding questions about the theory and practice of multispecies democracy and conduct additional literature-based research to map possible responses to them; and 3) host an end-of-semester symposium to present the Academy’s work thus far and invite others in the CSU community to discuss: what might multispecies democracy mean? And (why) would we want it?

Students in any major and any year are encouraged to apply, though preference will be given to students returning to CSU in the fall 2024 semester. Students should have a demonstrable interest in how multispecies relationships relate to science policy and/or global sustainability.

Students should be comfortable with the challenge of reading scholarship outside their majors, motivated to pursue questions that cross disciplinary boundaries, and confident speaking and writing in groups. No prior research experience is necessary.

Students should expect to commit 5-7 hours/week, with some flexibility to accommodate other commitments. Because this is a CLA-sponsored professional development opportunity, the work is not paid; however, each student will receive a $500 stipend for participating with the possibility of additional paid hourly research work following the academy depending on the group's findings and availability of funds. Students seeking material to develop an honors thesis project are also very welcome.

Internship Program: Community Curated Art and Conversation (CCAC) Objective: The Community Curated Art and Conversation (CCAC) internship program is designed to engage interns in a unique, community-driven art initiative that fosters inclusivity, diversity, and belonging. Interns will play a vital role in supporting the launch and growth of the CCAC program, ensuring meaningful connections with the community through art and conversation.

Duration: The internship will run for one semester (approximately 12 weeks), starting in January and concluding in May 2024.

Key Responsibilities: Program Support: Interns will work closely with MoA for All staff to support the successful launch and operation of CCAC. This includes assisting with program logistics, such as scheduling events, preparing art installations, and coordinating guest curator visits.

Community Engagement: Interns will actively engage with the community to encourage art contributions and conversations. This involves reaching out to local artists, community members, and non-profit partners to gather art pieces that align with the chosen themes.

Curator Assistance: Interns will assist guest curators in arranging art exhibitions and facilitating conversations around selected themes. This includes helping with the display setup, documenting the art, and promoting meaningful dialogue.

Outreach and Promotion: Interns will work on marketing and promotion efforts to attract community members, artists, and visitors to CCAC events. They will utilize social media, flyers, and community networks to create awareness about the program.

Data Collection: Interns will help in collecting feedback and data related to the program's impact on the community. This data will be used to assess the program's success and make necessary improvements.

Collaboration: Interns will collaborate with CSU Honor's program, including supporting the expansion of CCAC in the Fall of 2024. This may involve classroom outreach and marketing initiatives

SCHOLARSHIPS Fulbright UK Summer Institutes Program Join the Office for Scholarship and Fellowship Advising for an information session about the Fulbright UK Summer Institute program on Tuesday, December 5 at 4pm in LSC 328-330.

The UK Summer Institutes provides first and second year undergraduate students who have little or no travel experience and GPAs of 3.7 or higher with the opportunity to study at one of one of seven locations in the UK. The program is FULLY FUNDED and covers the costs of tuition, travel, and housing. The seven program themes are: 1) Arts, Activism, and Social Justice in England 2) Black Humanities in England 3) Climate Change and Environment in England 4) Identity and Nationhood in Wales 5) Scotland’s History: Kingdom, Nation, and People 6) Technology, Innovation, and Creativity in Scotland 7) Understanding Northern Ireland in Belfast

Voyager Scholarship for Public Service Calling all sophomores interested in public service! The Voyager Scholarship for Public Service is an award for current college sophomores who intend to pursue a career in public service and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Awardees receive: Up to $50,000 in financial aid $10,000 stipend and free Airbnb housing to pursue a summer work-travel experience between their junior and senior year of college a $2,000 Airbnb travel credit every year for 10 years, totaling $20,000 an invitation to an annual fall summit to help define and inspire their public service journey Representations from the Obama Foundation will give an information session on the award on Monday, December 4 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in LSC 396. CSU’s current Voyager Scholars, Mia Dischner and Lety Madrigal Tapia, will be in attendance to answer questions. Refreshments will be provided as well.

VOLUNTEERING Science Olympiad Northern Regional Tournament Hello CSU Honors students! My name is Mando Ramirez, and I am looking for student volunteers to help with a local science competition called Science Olympiad (SO). I am one of the co-directors for Colorado SO, and I am a CSU alumnus!

Science Olympiad is a 9-12 grade science competition in which schools compete against each other in 23 STEM related events, spanning a range of fields including biology, geosciences, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Our Northern Regional Tournament will be held on March 2nd, 2024, at Fossil Ridge High School. I am in need of two types of volunteers: (1) Supervisors, and (2) Day Helpers. Supervisors are responsible for running one of the 23 events. Day Helpers help with various tasks. This competition is only possible with the tremendous help of volunteers. You'd be making a positive impact on young scientists' minds by volunteering for this great outreach event. I am happy to sign for volunteer hours for those who need them.

CSU Orchestra Auditions Currently we offer two orchestras, both are open to music majors, minors, and non-majors.

We particularly are in need of string players and encourage non-music majors to join us. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns any interested students have, including about time commitments and potential time conflicts. Auditions are held at the start of each academic year, but we are welcoming new string players into our ensembles this spring.

Symphony Orchestra (Full Orchestra, Currently rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30-5:00 pm, Performs 2-3 times per semester. We are currently looking at reducing rehearsal to only 4 hours per week and considering other day/time options).

Concert Orchestra (Currently strings only, Currently Rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:00-2:30 pm, Performs 2 times per semester. We hope to open this group to winds, brass, and percussion as early as spring 2024. We may rehearse at a different time in spring 2024).
