Welcome to the Diamond J Angus annual production sale. This is our 15th year selling registered Angus cattle to the public and the 124th year of raising cattle on the family homestead we reside at today. Being 4th and 5th generation ranchers we have great respect for what our ancestors endured to provide us with the opportunities we have today and sharing our experiences with all of you in our current offering of cattle. It is an exciting time, with long awaited for prices on feeder calves and the genetics we bring to you today are the best we have raised to date. We are confident this offering will lead you to a level of performance, quality and efficiency in your calf crop so you can take advantage of the same opportunities we have achieved ourselves.
The bulls have been developed to be athletes and performers out in your pasture. They posses muscle and eye appeal. They are a docile group and represent the top 40% of our bull calves.
We are also offering 15 mixed aged, bred cows calving in June and July. These are great cows we normally would keep and since their calving dates are in the summer they will all have beautiful calves and stay in perfect condition. This will allow us to keep more replacement females from our current heifer calf crop.
All cattle are on vaccine protocols at birth, pasture turn out, pre weaning, post weaning and yearly on the bred cows. Mineral is fed in a TMR ration over the winter and free choice in the summer.
Bulls will come back home after the sale and will be semen tested by Johnson Veterinary Clinic in late April and free delivery on bulls selling over $3000 to your ranch to North Dakota buyers and free delivery to central points or stockyards nationwide. We will get them as close to you as possible. Females we can arrange delivery at cost to you. If you need them earlier let us know.
Bulls are guaranteed to be breeders at the start of your breeding season for 90 days. All injuries or death before breeding are insurable and the buyers responsibility. Dakota Ag Insurance is available in the office for your insurance needs. Claims should be made by November 1st and verified by a veterinarian. A salvage value of $2,500 will be subtracted off your purchase price and the difference given in the form of credit towards next years sale. Any issues or concerns not covered here should be brought to Stephanies attention as soon as discovered. We are here to help you get your cows bred in as timely and fair of a manner as possible. We always have bulls on hand to get the job done. All females will be confirmed bred as close to sale day as we can arrange.
Diamond J Angus wants to be your partner in your herds success. We are so thankful and proud of each one of you that has taken interest in our program and spent your hard earned dollars on our cattle. We are truly here for you and your benefit. Call or stop in any time with any questions, concerns, or just plain curiosity to what we are up to. We love to talk ranching and farming. Its all we do, its our livelihood, its our passion.
Sincerely,
The Hatzenbuhlers

Welcome to Diamond J Angus! As I am writing this letter, the purebred and commercial cattle market is on fire. The need for beef as a protein and a high-end eating experience is outpacing the inventory needed to fill it. And producers standing in the gap are about to be rewarded at levels we have never seen before.
No question, this way of life takes grit, hard work, ingenuity, family, and independence — all of which exist at Diamond J Angus. The passion of this family to create and be productive is rare and getting rarer. It’s been fun, rewarding, challenging, and a great experience to keep up with them on the genetic advancement of this herd. It is happening at a rapid pace and that is exciting for me and you, their loyal customers.
The bull offering reflects the people, ranch, and the great Northern plains of the United States. Rugged and ready-to-go, these bulls are not pampered which makes them excellent prospects. Bone, udder quality, fleshing ability, and now carcass traits are becoming the focus of the selection pressure at Diamond J, and it shows in the excellence of the offering.
When you get to as many places as I do, you always look to be inspired to keep up your will to push on. The communication and visits with Steph do that for me. She is old school and determined to outwork, and outthink her competition in a humble manner. That inspires me to keep up with her and meet her passion for our way of life and Angus cattle. It is with my highest honor to assist the Hatzenbuhlers with their program and give my word on their character and honesty. Great people are a foundation to our way of life, and great people can be found at Diamond J in Mandan ND.
If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me at anytime. See you soon.

Hoover No Doubt has been in use at Diamond J Angus since we first purchased him along with Alta Genetics and Peak Dot Ranch. Sons and grandsons of No Doubt have been adding to our breeding stock for 3 and 4 generations and we still see amazing results. Real cattle are run on environments not inputs and there is ‘no doubt’ that No Doubt has been the best sire in the last decade to accomplish this.

At Diamond J Angus, we are on a mission to help our customers do more, with less. With a focus on ranchers’ profitability and producing high-quality beef, we focus on three things — PERFORMANCE, QUALITY, EFFICIENCY.
Anyone can feed performance and a certain level of quality into cattle, but are we being efficient? The word “efficient” is what’s left in our pockets at the end of the season, and it all starts with great cows.
To us, a great cow breeds on time every year, holds her condition, and raises a profitable calf on the cheapest ration we can come up with. Our cows are fed corn silage, straw, liquid feed, and 4-5 lbs. of mineral and corn during the coldest parts of winter, through calving, and turnout time.
Our cows are true “show” cattle. They must “show” us why they should stay in the herd. We push our cows to do more on less. If they can’t keep up, they are culled and sent to market. Genetics and ability to adapt are the keys to great cows. We are consistently looking for better performance, better quality, and better efficiency in our females. We don’t label our cows “maternal” or “terminal.” They are either in or out.
With an eye on the end goal of raising cattle that will ultimately end up as steaks on the dinner plate, we use tools provided to us in the forms of EPDs, and DNA. Nothing is 100%, but these tools certainly point us in the right direction, and once we dial in on the best genetics, we can advance them farther and faster in our program with AI and embryo transplant.
With a progressive approach to our program, we have enlisted the help of Chris Earl, of CK6 Consulting, CK6 Source, and Reverse Rocking R Ranch. Chris has a down-to-earth approach, with like-minded goals, and a similar approach to the cattle business as we have. He is a leader that sees the big picture, not just sale reports. He travels the country and sees cattle from all environments and practices possible. His experience and guidance is another tool we use to be more more progressive. We always say he is our “eyes” out in the country, helping us identify great herd sires and identify bulls we can use after our cows are given one shot at AI.
At Diamond J Angus, we place intense selection pressure on our seedstock program, retaining 40% for bulls, and the rest are marketed as feeders. We are in the same marketing position as every commercial cattlemen is, and it drives us to create value for you in our breeding program. We are proud to say our feeder calves top their weight classes in dollars year-after-year, and it is our hope that our genetics can do the same for you. We are dedicated to an approach of helping all in the cattle business to become better at what we all strive to do — raise quality beef.
Diamond J Angus takes great pride in our customers’ success. We want to do it right the first time for ourselves and ultimately for you! For more in-depth conversation, please call or stop by, and we will gladly show you our mission and help you incorporate the same concepts into what your current program. We can grow this industry together!
