Welcome all and thank you for your support and interest over the past sixteen years of Diamond J Angus selling Angus cattle to the public.
This year we have a very exciting offering that has excelled on our Northern environment better than any set of bulls we have raised to date. Not only are they muscular but half the offering is calving ease and over half carries the Certified Angus Beef emblem certifying quality red meat. It’s not an age and source world anymore for feeder calves. With our much well deserved increase in feeder calf value the carcasses that grade better will be in higher demand and many feedlots/calf buyers/calf programs will be seeking the quality merit in feeder calves that still display abundant muscle and gainability qualities. Diamond J Angus is with you all the way in the feeder calf business. We are not only seedstock producers but feeder calf producers as well. We are always trying to add “free pounds”, efficiency, and added quality to our feeder calves and want to be set up to offer that in every feeder calf we offer for sale. One third of the bulls Diamond J Angus produces are being offered for sale as breeding bulls. The other two thirds were banded and sold as steers. We graze smaller pastures as a lot of the ground in our area is suitable for farming. We fall graze the farm ground and feed as much crop residues as we can. There is no alfalfa on our ranch. The cows are fed over the winter with corn silage, straw or corn stover, liquid feed and a few pounds of corn in the coldest months. Bull calves and heifer calves eat the same ration with grass hay replacing the straw. Bulls are offered a developing ration in free choice feeders. Mineral is available all year. Bulls have been vaccinated with all calfhood recommended vaccines at birth, branding, pre weaning, and post weaning. They sell guaranteed to be breeders for the first breeding season starting at turn out time. Johnson Veterinary Clinic will be performing breeding soundness exams on the bulls in the end of April so we will feed them for free until they get tested and Travis Eckroth will again be delivering the bulls. Free delivery on the bulls in North Dakota and surrounding states. Free nationwide delivery on bulls selling for over $5000.
Diamond J Angus is celebrating 125 years of ranching and farming with John Ross and Ty being the fifth generation to take on the tradition. We know the challenges, struggles and rewards of this business all too well. We try to be as innovative and at the top of our game as we possibly can be with our genetics in both the ranch and the farm. Techniques, practices, and just plain trial and error are in play on a daily basis. We love to share our success stories and failures with our peers. We are available for conversations and ranch/farm visits all year round. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your interest and support in the past and into the future. We pray for your success, the success of the agricultural industry as a whole and the positions we all play together in this business to keep our lifestyle of family ranches/farms for many generations to come.

God Bless, The Hatzenbuhlers

At Diamond J Angus, we are on a mission to help our customers do more, with less. With a focus on ranchers’ profitability and producing high-quality beef, we focus on three things —
Anyone can feed performance and a certain level of quality into cattle, but are we being efficient? The word “efficient” is what’s left in our pockets at the end of the season, and it all starts with great cows.
To us, a great cow breeds on time every year, holds her condition, and raises a profitable calf on the cheapest ration we can come up with. Our cows are fed corn silage, straw, liquid feed, and 4-5 lbs. of mineral and corn during the coldest parts of winter, through calving, and turnout time.
Our cows are true “show” cattle. They must “show” us why they should stay in the herd. We push our cows to do more on less. If they can’t keep up, they are culled and sent to market. Genetics and ability to adapt are the keys to great cows. We are consistently looking for better performance, better quality, and better efficiency in our females. We don’t label our cows “maternal” or “terminal.” They are either in or out.
With an eye on the end goal of raising cattle that will ultimately end up as steaks on the dinner plate, we use tools provided to us in the forms of EPDs, and DNA. Nothing is 100%, but these tools certainly point us in the right direction, and once we dial in on the best genetics, we can advance them farther and faster in our program with AI and embryo transplant.
With a progressive approach to our program, we have enlisted the help of Chris Earl, of CK6 Consulting, CK6 Source, and Reverse Rocking R Ranch. Chris has a down-to-earth approach, with like-minded goals, and a similar approach to the cattle business as we have. He is a leader that sees the big picture, not just sale reports. He travels the country and sees cattle from all environments and practices possible. His experience and guidance is another tool we use to be more more progressive. We always say he is our “eyes” out in the country, helping us identify great herd sires and identify bulls we can use after our cows are given one shot at AI.
At Diamond J Angus, we place intense selection pressure on our seedstock program, retaining 30% for bulls, and the rest are marketed as feeders. We are in the same marketing position as every commercial cattlemen is, and it drives us to create value for you in our breeding program. We are proud to say our feeder calves top their weight classes in dollars year-after-year, and it is our hope that our genetics can do the same for you. We are dedicated to an approach of helping all in the cattle business to become better at what we all strive to do — raise quality beef.
Diamond J Angus takes great pride in our customers’ success. We want to do it right the first time for ourselves and ultimately for you! For more in-depth conversation, please call or stop by, and we will gladly show you our mission and help you incorporate the same concepts into what your current program. We can grow this industry together!
