2023 - Cattlemens Cut Bull Sale

THURSDAY – 1:00 PM CT AT THE RANCH – BREWSTER, NEBRASKA FEBRUARY 23, 2023

WELCOME CATTLEMEN

Welcome to the 2023 offering from the Cattlemen’s Cut Bull Sale! First, we want to thank you for your interest in our sale. This marks our third year of living here in the Sandhills, and even with the drought and the recent blasts of snow, we’ve enjoyed every day we’ve had the opportunity to be here.

Changes continue to happen in our lives, and this May we will welcome our first child. We couldn’t imagine raising our kids anywhere else, or outside the beef industry. We feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to do this a place such as this, with the natural beauty that is the Sandhills, surrounded by some of the best people our state has to offer. This industry makes our heart beat, and we can’t wait to share it with the next generation.

As we welcome another generation, it makes it even more prevalent the importance of genetics that will continue to improve our herd, and thrive in the environment, and on the land we’re seated on. We believe the future of our herd starts with the female, and for this reason we practice strict culling, and performance standards with all of them. From fertility, udders, and docility, we factor it all in to ensure the cows stability in our herd and in yours. We utilize both ET and AI to bring a large offering of both half and full brothers to the sale each year. We love a consistent and balanced cow, that raises a great calf each year, with little intervention. The cows are the building blocks to our herd, and we refuse to chase fads; we continue to rely heavily on the cows that perform, and calves that do the same, with vigor to get them from pasture to rail with minimal inputs.

Our offering consists of four main sire groups that we have watched and developed closely. We believe in breeding for balanced EPD’s, natural muscle, good feet, and sound structure, having faith in knowing the cumulation of these things leads to longevity, and ultimately the legacy we leave behind. With a high roughage ration, and large amounts of exercise, these bulls are truly bred on, and not fed on, and ready to go to work.

Thank you for your consideration in our offering this year, and for viewing this catalog. Please join us on sale day, Feburary 23rd, for lunch starting at 12p, and the live auction at 1p. The auction will be broadcast on DV Auction the day of the sale, and all cattle are available for viewing anytime prior to the sale.

We look forward to talking with you, and seeing you at our home!

EPDs that traditionally contained all pedigree, performance and progeny information now also include results from available genomic, or DNA, tests. Breeders who use genomic technology give buyers access to AGI-generated GE-EPDs that provide: Increased predictability and decreased risk for young and unproven animals due to enhanced accuracy of EPDs Better characterization of genetics for difficult-to-measure performance traits (such as carcass traits, maternal traits and feed efficiency) The ability to make more rapid progress for traits that are important to you, due to: more accurate selection easier identification of genetic outliers the ability to propagate young animals with confidence earlier in their lives In fact, GE-EPDs on unproven animals have the same amount of accuracy as if they had recorded 8-33 calves, depending the trait. That’s valuable insight, offered regularly through the breed’s weekly national cattle evaluation at www.angus.org. How do you know if EPDs are genomic-enhanced? Producers need the most advanced information to make smart selection decisions, and Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI) provides it through genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs). EPDs that traditionally contained all pedigree, performance and progeny information now also include results from available genomic, or DNA, tests. Breeders who use genomic technology give buyers access to AGI-generated GE-EPDs that provide: Increased predictability and decreased risk for young and unproven animals due to enhanced accuracy of EPDs Better characterization of genetics for difficult-to-measure performance traits (such as carcass traits, maternal traits and feed efficiency) The ability to make more rapid progress for traits that are important to you, due to: more accurate selection easier identification of genetic outliers the ability to propagate young animals with confidence earlier in their lives In fact, GE-EPDs on unproven animals have the same amount of accuracy as if they had recorded 8-33 calves, depending on the trait. Ask your breeder, refer to the registration paper, or look for the AGI GE-EPD logo, Angus GS TM powered by partner Neogen GeneSeek or the HD50k or i50k by partner Zoetis
