Julie Flett is an author/illustrator who has written books such as “Birdsong”, “We All Play” and “Let’s Go!” which is her newest work. Julie is Cree-Metis and her stories often depict children who are Indigenous Canadian and their families. Flett also utilizes bilingual text in her work having both Cree and Michif text mixed in with English. Thus, making her books great way to introduce Indigenous cultures to your littles. Flett has received a number of awards for her work including TD Children’s Literature Award, two Governor’s General award, and the American Indian Library Association. Her work has also been included on many Best Book Lists from sources such as the New York Times, School Library Journal, and Horn Books.
BEYOND THE BOOK: A lot of the books talked about being grateful for the little things life. So start the practice with your kid each day to either have them write down or recite a few things they are grateful for. It does not have to be a big thing, but something as small as they are grateful for an activity they are doing that day!

After reading Harvest Days talk with your child about what they learned in the seeing how other cultures practice thankfulness.
