HOMETOWN NEWS

IN SEASON

October 2013

Hometown News Readers have voted, and the results are in! As you recall, we published our “Hometown News Readers’ Choice Ballot” section on Friday, July 26th. For weeks, our mailboxes were “full to the brim” each day with ballots from our readers. We continue to be amazed at the level of support and caring for the local businesses exhibited by our readers. The best way to describe this level of support is simply………WOW! We realize that you were probably thinking we would have had a more sophisticated response. The truth is, this is the best way to describe how so many of our readers, even more than last year, cared enough about these businesses to take the time to complete their ballot and mail it back to us. Our General Manager, Lee Mooty, said that he has never seen this level of reader response in his 30+ years in the newspaper industry! “I continue to be humbled by the sheer numbers of our readers that responded”, Mooty said. Our Office Managers and support staff in all our offices spent countless hours tabulating the results, on top of their already busy schedules! Their driving motivation was the same as that of our readers; it is important these businesses be recognized for their efforts to be the BEST in their respective fields, and the Hometown News Readers’ Choice is the perfect vehicle for that recognition. This selfless effort by both our staff and readers is what makes this all worthwhile. The response from the businesses that won has been overwhelming as well. Each business we contacted to inform them of their distinction resulted in a burst of unbelievable elation. All were truly excited their efforts were being recognized! Because we had almost 6,000 businesses to contact, there were several days of

excitement for our staff, as they “dialed the winners”. Each of the winners will receive a certificate stating they were voted the BEST. You can rest assured they will proudly display the certificate in their businesses again this year. Additionally, they will receive a window sticker signifying they are a Readers’ Choice winner. Both of these distinctions will provide their patrons with the assurance that they not only strive to be the BEST, but also have been recognized for their success in being the BEST. These visuals also send a message throughout the business community that being the BEST is a worthy goal, and that if they didn’t win this year, they have a year to “raise the bar” and earn our readers’ trust for the 2014 Readers’ Choice awards! We now have 9 of our loyal readers that will receive a “Big Thank You” for their efforts in the form of a weekend getaway for their family to the beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee. These lucky winners will not only get to stay in this fantastic resort for the weekend, but they also receive a host of activities and shows included in the packages! This really turned out to be a “win – win” situation for all! The businesses that have worked so hard are finally being recognized for their efforts and talents, and our loyal readers now have the satisfaction of knowing they played such an important role in that recognition. This edition of “In Season” is not only full of useful information and events for the next seven months, it will also continue to contain your community’s “Hometown News Readers’ Choice” winners listing. We sincerely hope you find this issue a true keepsake throughout the season. Special Edition of

Donna Winters, originally from New Jersey, and Beverly Brier, originally from New Hampshire relocated with their families to Jensen Beach 6 years ago. It was their husbands that originally met and brought them together in friendship. Sharing a background in home health services, their friendship and eventually their business grew. While living in New Hampshire, Beverly worked as a nursing home administrator for thirty years. A caring individual, she would often bring residents to her home for picnics and fun. Her husband Timothy and their three sons, Skip, Tim and John all reside in Martin County. Her two daughters, Carrie and Sara remain living in New Hampshire.

ChemDry By The Sea: Serving Martin & St. Lucie Owner: Gregg Pizzi /Palm City Resident 10 years

Donna is married to Bill Winters and together had a daughter Lisa who passed away in 2005 from a rare blood disorder called Wegener’s Granulamotosis at the age of 25. They have worked on fundraising for the Foundation. They also have a daughter Linda and son Billy in NJ and a son Mike in NC. Marvin Sassler, their business partner, was instrumental in helping them develop their business. His wife had developed Alzheiner’s and he wanted her cared for in her home. Seeing a need in the area, they worked toward filling that void with Mature Home Helping Hands. Beverly and Donna take pride in the staff they have developed. “We pay them a little more than other agencies”, states Donna,” but not as much as they deserve”. The staff has set apart from other similar businesses as they are not afraid to help with other household chores and are assigned on a regular basis to the same clients. Both Donna and Beverly love the area and state “We are here to stay! This is paradise and we have found our niche” Please call Mature Home Helping Hands when you find you need a helping hand with your family. You will be glad you did!
