he holidays are a time for celebration, giving and family. It’s also a time when millions of men around the globe stress about the perfect gift for that very special woman in their lives. Regardless of how well men think they know their wives, girlfriends, mothers, daughters, nieces or sisters, there is nothing — and I mean nothing — that strikes fear into a man’s heart more than failing to deliver the quintessential gift during the holidays. How do I know this? Simple… I’m married to the most wonderful man in the entire universe. Jeremy knows about my obsession with all things bright, colorful and fabulous, as well as my unwavering love of knick-knacks from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” anything and everything Philadelphia Eagles football and, shockingly enough, the unbelievable world of XBOX by Microsoft. Despite knowing both the little and big things that are sure to send my heart into a flutter, my sweet husband — like most men — has no clue what gift will top all others. Gentlemen of Florida’s Space Coast, I, Amanda Hatfield Anderson, have a secret for you: when in doubt, it’s the little things that matter most. There is no doubt that a little blue box from Tiffany’s or an exotic leather handbag by Michael Kors will leave her speechless, paying attention to the little things that keep her all aglow throughout the year will be your sure ticket to gift-giving paradise. Stocking stuffers are an easy way to get the lady in your life a variety of items that she can use in her everyday life. Not only can you purchase all of these items at national retailers, but local shops in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Cocoa Village and the Eau Gallie Arts District, as well as throughout the county, also offer these products. Regardless of age, women love nail polish, cosmetics and perfume. The holiday season is also a great time of year to purchase these items in bulk, as companies frequently produce “sampler-size” packages.

For example, nail polish giants Essie and O.P.I. offer packages of four to six bottles of lacquer at cosmetic retailers like Ulta throughout the year. With collections varying by seasons and special promotions, Essie and O.P.I. nail lacquers come in a range of colors, allowing you to purchase the lady in your life a few, high-quality polishes for a fraction of what one regular-sized bottle would cost. The same can be said for perfume lines. While some scents offer bundles, which include body wash and lotion, other companies like Victoria’s Secret offer sample-sized packages containing five or more vials of perfume. This allows your wife, girlfriend, daughter, sister or niece to mix up her scent from week to week, while allowing you the opportunity to save a little more money. Cosmetics can be tricky — there is no doubt about that. I strongly suggest that men do not “go big” and purchase foundation, blush or powder, as matching the correct shade to a woman’s pigment. However, I see nothing wrong with snooping in your woman’s makeup bag to see what brand and shade of mascara, palate of eye shadow or lipstick she uses. These items are much safer to go with, as women tend to be extremely faithful to the brands they use. Try picking up a palate of eye shadow by Urban Decay if you’re shopping for your teenage daughter or niece. The company is known for having excellent quality shadows in a bevy of cool shades. With the emergence of the popular website Pinterest, I have noticed a major up-swing in the accessories department for women of all ages, specifically in jewelry. I could go on and on listing off products for men to purchase for those special ladies in their lives, but I have a deadline to meet. Gentlemen, put the stress of holidays past behind you and bask in your newfound confidence this shopping season. Little things, like cosmetic goodies for the glamazon or chic tech gear for the modernist, are sure to have your lady bragging to all of her friends about the wonderful gift you bought for her this year. Holiday Happenings Festival of Wreaths sponsorship One Senior Place will be the host site for the Third Annual Festival of Wreaths on Friday, Dec. 6 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. This annual fundraising event was designed to benefit local charitable organizations in Brevard County. This year’s recipient will be Devereux Florida. Devereux is the largest nonprofit provider of mental health, developmental disabilities and child welfare services to children and families in the nation. They provide services to more than 1,000 children in Brevard County throughout the year and provide gifts to these children during the holidays. Admission to this event is $5, or a donation of a gift card.
