Whether your list is lengthy, full of hard-to-buy-for relatives, packed with people who seemingly have everything, or loaded with eccentric relatives who prefer homemade gifts, shopping for the perfect present can be trying. To make this time of year easier, we’ve compiled lists of hot gadgets, pointed out some of the best locations to find deals and listed some unique ideas to make sure the holiday spirit isn’t lost during the holiday shopping experience. When the shopping is completed, take some time to give back to the community by buying an unwrapped toy for a child in need and drop it off in many of the collections boxes located all across town. How about donating some canned goods for those who may have a hard
time putting together a holiday meal for their families? There are many organizations who are making sure that everyone gets enjoy a complete meal Christmas morning. During this time of year, one of the most forgotten about groups is seniors. How about buying something for a senior in your neighborhood who may not have any family to spend the holidays with? Sparkle and shine this Christmas Family-owned jeweler has gifts for all ages By Jessica Creagan jcreagan@hometownnewsol.com
VERO BEACH — If a special piece of jewelry is on your Christmas wish list, or on your loved ones’ list, DuBose and Sons Jeweler in Vero Beach can help. With a reputation of jeweler excellence spanning more than 100 years in the region and a passion for jewelry into the fourth- and fifth-generation of owner/operators, DuBose and Sons continues to meet and exceed expectations for customers, making every gift stunning and special. Christmas is a wonderful season for the company, and everyone at the shop gets into the Christmas spirit by participating in the annual Vero Beach Christmas parade, organized
by the Oceanside Business Association, Mr. DuBose said. “We have a lot of fun with it. The last couple of years, we’ve had Santa on our float,” he said. Christmas is also a busy time at the store as the jewelry store has something for everyone on the “nice list.” Glass cabinets hold rows of shining metals fashioned into earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches, even cups and baby rattles. Crystal figurines are also featured in one of the cabinets. Some of the petite statuettes include replicas of domestic and exotic animals. “We are your old-fashioned jewelry store; we can meet most general needs. We do repairs, we string pearls, we are an authorized Citizens watch dealer and we offer free engraving on all our products,” Mr. DuBose said. See SPARKLE, Page 6

The store carries jewelry from sterling silver up to 14-carat gold, a few platinum pieces, and much more, he said. “Diamonds are good at any time,” Mr. DuBose said with a smile. Often times, the shop can get specific diamonds in one business day, Mr. DuBose said. Most of the work on the jewelry is done inhouse, including sizing, he said. A rising trend is for people to bring in jewelry they have inherited to be cleaned or appraised, something Mr. DuBose is quite happy to do. “Sometimes we have people bring in a box full of jewelry. And then sometimes, people who don’t check their jewelry, they get rid of really good pieces and never even know it,” Mr. DuBose said. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In December, they will add Saturdays to the schedule, and will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. DuBose and Sons Jewelers is located at 953 Old Dixie Highway, Suite B15, Vero Beach.
