October 2013
Hometown News Readers have voted, and the results are in! bers of our readers that responded”, Mooty said. Our Office Managers and support staff in all our offices spent countless hours tabulating the results, on top of their already busy schedules! Their driving motivation was the same as that of our readers; it is important these businesses be recognized for their efforts to be the BEST in their respective fields, and the Hometown News Readers’ Choice is the perfect vehicle for that recognition. This selfless effort by both our staff and readers is what makes this all worthwhile. The response from the businesses that won has been overwhelming as well. Each business we contacted to inform them of their distinction resulted in a burst of unbelievable elation. All were truly excited their efforts were being recognized! Because we had almost 6,000 businesses to contact, there were several
days of excitement for our staff, as they “dialed the winners”. Each of the winners will receive a certificate stating they were voted the BEST. You can rest assured they will proudly display the certificate in their businesses again this year. Additionally, they will receive a window sticker signifying they are a Readers’ Choice winner. Both of these distinctions will provide their patrons with the assurance that they not only strive to be the BEST, but also have been recognized for their success in being the BEST. These visuals also send a message throughout the business community that being the BEST is a worthy goal, and that if they didn’t win this year, they have a year to “raise the bar” and earn our readers’ trust for the 2014 Readers’ Choice awards! We now have 9 of our loyal readers that will receive a “Big Thank You” for their
efforts in the form of a weekend getaway for their family to the beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee. These lucky winners will not only get to stay in this fantastic resort for the weekend, but they also receive a host of activities and shows included in the packages! This really turned out to be a “win – win” situation for all! The businesses that have worked so hard are finally being recognized for their efforts and talents, and our loyal readers now have the satisfaction of knowing they played such an important role in that recognition. This edition of “In Season” is not only full of useful information and events for the next seven months, it will also continue to contain your community’s “Hometown News Readers’ Choice” winners listing. We sincerely hope you find this issue a true keepsake throughout the season.

As you recall, we published our “Hometown News Readers’ Choice Ballot” section on Friday, July 26th. For weeks, our mailboxes were “full to the brim” each day with ballots from our readers. We continue to be amazed at the level of support and caring for the local businesses exhibited by our readers. The best way to describe this level of support is simply………WOW! We realize that you were probably thinking we would have had a more sophisticated response. The truth is, this is the best way to describe how so many of our readers, even more than last year, cared enough about these businesses to take the time to complete their ballot and mail it back to us. Our General Manager, Lee Mooty, said that he has never seen this level of reader response in his 30+ years in the newspaper industry! “I continue to be humbled by the sheer num-
