EDITOR’S NOTE
It’s impossible not to feel inspired by the incredible innovations showcased at the Milan Design Week and the influence from this year’s event, which took place in April, will undoubtedly reverberate through the industry and set the stage for trends that will shape homes and interiors for seasons to come.
One of the standout trends was the focus on creating multifunctional spaces that don’t compromise on style. By that, we’re talking about furniture that adapts to changing needs or layouts that transform with ease and Milan Design Week showed how innovation can make a home beautiful, and practical too. This forward-thinking approach was apparent in many of the interior design displays, as well as a significant push towards the use of more sustainable yet luxurious materials and nature-inspired design in organic earthy tones.
The emphasis continues to be on luxury and comfort, mixing indulgence and sensory appeal through innovative materials and tactile upholstery. There’s also a huge rise in “spathrooms” where the once humble loo and practical shower have been subtly upgraded to a full-on spa-like experience. Of course, we at Home & Lifestyle magazine champion the marriage of sustainability, practicality, and high-end luxury and, throughout this issue, we take inspiration from these trends and look at how you can bring the same balance of form and function into your home. And you’ll find pages of bathroom upgrade inspiration in our Elegant Bathroom Design feature. May and June is also synonymous with the start of summer and the coast is coming alive with early summer energy. The traditional Spanish ‘feria’ season begins and it’s also ‘beach club opening party’ season where the real Marbella magic happens, offering the ultimate spots to soak in the beauty of outdoor living. This issue is all about the spirit of summer and our Luxury Living Under the Sun guide takes you through the essentials of transforming your outdoor spaces into stylish retreats. Whether you’re looking to design a chic outdoor lounge, a space for al fresco dining, or a shaded escape, we’ve curated a beautiful collection, from modular outdoor furniture to sculptural parasols, that is sure to inspire you. We also feature stunning tableware for the perfect al fresco dining experience and our architectural news pages show a spectacular example of outdoor living with breathtaking results.
Wishing you all an inspiring start to summer. Enjoy this issue,

BLOOMING MARVELLOUS TABLEWARE
As we step into the vibrant spring-summer months, it’s the perfect time to refresh our dining areas with the beauty of blooming flowers and nature-inspired décor. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or enjoying a quiet meal at home, the right tableware sets the mood and transforms the experience, blending practicality with artistic expression. While classic plain designs remain timeless, brands are increasingly embracing bold patterns and intricate motifs, turning dinnerware, serve ware, and even vases into statement pieces. From floral-inspired plates to sculptural vessels that complement fresh blooms, tableware has become an extension of personal style and seasonal charm. This ornate tray from Paradisio Imaginarium’s Mediterranean Plateau collection adorns an immersive illustration of an elephant in Indian parade attire in Maharaja against a backdrop of jungle and mountains. Printed on wood from sustainable forests, it is protected by a layer of melamine which makes the surface heat resistant up to 130°C (www.paradisio-imaginarium.com).

LUXURY LIVING UNDER THE SUN
As our gardens and terraces evolve into true extensions of the home, outdoor living has become an art form; one that balances style, comfort, and durability. Today’s al fresco spaces are all about laid-back luxury: think low-slung sofas, deep armchairs, and cushions you can sink into. Patterns are making a confident comeback, adding personality and playful energy, while bold, inviting colours set a casual yet curated tone. The enduring appeal of boho style continues to charm, and it’s easy to see why - its relaxed, sun-drenched aesthetic is exactly how we want to feel when unwinding outdoors. But just as comfort and style matter, so does smart shelter. Shade solutions, whether in the form of sculptural parasols or flowing bohemian canopies, are essential for both protection and ambience. Quality is key and the best designs blend beauty with resilience, standing up to sun, wind, and rain while elevating the space around them. Take a look at these ideas…

LIGHT EXPRESSION
Lighting is no longer merely a functional element - it has become a defining force in the narrative of interior design. While minimalist lighting continues to hold strong appeal, particularly in sleek contemporary villas where clean lines and subtle elegance reign, there is also a bold movement embracing lighting as art.
The latest collections reveal a striking shift toward sculptural forms, vibrant colours, and expressive materials that elevate fixtures into focal points. Suspension lamps take on playful, kinetic shapes that float like modern mobiles, adding movement and personality to a room.
Wall sconces become dramatic compositions in their own right, merging illumination with artistic expression. Meanwhile, refined table lamps bring an elegant balance of form and function, using high quality materials and thoughtful detailing to soften and enrich a space.
We explore the full spectrum of today’s lighting, from minimalist to maximalist, where each piece is more than just a source of light; it’s a statement of style and a reflection of contemporary design sensibilities.

CREATIVE WALLS
Wallpaper has made a strong return, shedding its dated image to become a key element in modern interiors. Current styles favour muted, earthy tones and nature-inspired patterns that bring calm and balance. Texture is central to this revival, with finishes like grass cloth and linen adding depth and interest. Feature walls remain popular, showcasing bold, artistic designs that express personal style. Far from a passing trend, wallpaper now stands as a design statement in its own right. Paint also plays a powerful role in shaping interiors, both visually and emotionally. Techniques like colour drenching - using one shade across walls, ceilings, and trim - create a cohesive, immersive feel. Dusty greens, warm taupes, and deep, moody hues add subtle mood or striking depth, helping to define spaces and reflect personality.

SPEAKING YOUR LANGUAGE
INTERVIEW WITH FAMOUS DESIGNER PEPE LEAL ON HIS SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP WITH EICHHOLTZ BY IDHOUSE
At the Madrid Inside Art & Design (MIAD) 2025 fair, the collaboration between esteemed Spanish interior designer Pepe Leal and Eichholtz by Idhouse, the official distributor in Spain of renowned Dutch brand Eichholtz, resulted in the award-winning project Suite 16. This innovative design won the First Prize Award for its balanced blend of historical and contemporary elements. It serves as an inspiring example of how design can bridge eras, creating spaces that are both timeless and forward-thinking. Here, Pepe Leal shares his thoughts on the successful partnership with Eichholtz and the creative process behind Suite 16.
Pepe, this collaboration between you and Eichholtz at MIAD has generated quite a buzz. From the very beginning, Eichholtz was very enthusiastic to partner with you. What made this relationship so organic?
The foundation was already there. I’ve been incorporating Eichholtz in my projects for a long time. I know the brand well. I understand their design philosophy and their commitment to quality. And that’s the key, isn’t it?
When you speak the same language, a collaboration becomes effortless.
Can you explain to us what that “language” is?
It’s a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, the integrity of materials, and a design aesthetic that resonates with our clientele. We both cater to those who recognise and value high-quality products and exquisite design. We both understand that true luxury lies in the details.
It’s clear there’s a deep respect for the Eichholtz brand. Was it difficult to choose which items to feature in this project?
Yes, it was! In the best possible way, of course. The Eichholtz collection is stunning this year and I wanted to include as much of it as possible, and weave in some of my favourite pieces from their previous collections. It was about creating a harmonious blend where each piece contributed to the overall vision. Achieving that balance required careful consideration. It was a delightful challenge.

Can you share your initial inspiration for creating the unique environment of Suite 16?
Inspiration is rarely born from a single source. It’s a confluence of elements that ignite the creative spark and, in this case, there were two very powerful influences. First and foremost was the space itself. The bullring, with its inherent history, raw textures, and distinctive colour palette possesses a unique character that immediately speaks to you. Secondly, the new Eichholtz collection boasts an exquisite array of meticulously crafted furniture, lighting, and accessories, each piece reflecting exceptional artistry and thoughtful design. The textures, the finishes, the overall design language; it all resonated with me. Suite 16 is about creating a space where these elements complement each other and tell a story.

FUTURE-PROOF BUILDING ON THE COSTA DEL SOL
A CONVERSATION WITH DAMIAN FREDA GARCÍA OF FREDA CONSTRUCTION
As construction methods evolve to meet the demands of modern living - balancing speed, sustainability, and design - some companies are adopting contemporary alternatives to traditional building. Marbella-based Freda Construction is part of a new wave of construction companies.
With a growing portfolio across the Costa del Sol and a strong following among Scandinavian clients, it embraces steel framing technology and a full-service approach to deliver projects that are as functional as they are beautiful.
Here, Damian Freda García from Freda Construction tells us why steel makes sense, what today’s international clients are looking for, and the kinds of projects they’re proud to be building.
Damian, Freda Construction has become a standout on the Costa del Sol. How does your approach differ from other builders in the region? We do things a little differently, and I think our clients really feel that from the first meeting. We’re big on organisation, clear communication, and transparency. But perhaps the biggest difference is our use of steel framing construction. It allows us to
build faster and with a structural integrity that gives our clients a home that lasts longer and performs better in the climate here.
Steel framing isn’t typical in this part of Spain. Why has it become such a big part of your method?
Exactly, it’s not the norm here, which is part of the reason we leaned into it. Steel framing means quicker builds, reduced long-term maintenance, and excellent resistance to the humidity and shifting ground conditions you sometimes get on the coast. Plus, it’s a sustainable, low-waste option that appeals to our international clients, especially our Scandinavian homeowners.
Your work has attracted a Scandinavian clientele. What is it that draws them to Freda?
They appreciate quality. They’re organised, expect efficiency, and they care about design and sustainability. We share that mindset. Aesthetically speaking, we’re all about clean lines, natural materials, big open-plan living spaces, and a clever use of light. And that appeals to them too.
Can you talk us through some of your favourite recent projects?
Sure. We’ve worked on a range of high-end properties, and the private villas are always a highlight. These homes have massive glass façades that open out to sea views, seamless indooroutdoor living areas, with serene pools, and a real sense of calm. They’re bright, minimal, and luxurious; everything you’d want in a Mediterranean retreat.
We also do a lot of larger-scale developments, including hotel refurbishments and multi-unit projects. We frequently collaborate with respected architecture and design studios to create a smooth workflow between vision and execution.
And you’re involved in every step of the process?
Yes, that’s one of the things clients love most. We handle everything from architectural planning, 3D modelling, and permits, through the project management and right up to the interior finishes. There’s no need to juggle multiple contractors or wonder who’s in charge. We make the whole process simple by keeping everything in one place.
Finally, what’s next for Freda Construction?
We’ll continue to grow but we’re committed to staying true to our ethos of high quality, good people, and beautiful homes that work as well as they look. And, obviously, we’re excited to keep building and keep pushing what’s possible with steel.

REDEFINING OUTDOOR LIVING
G&G ITALIA BRINGS EFFORTLESS LUXURY TO THE OUTDOORS IN SIERRA BLANCA
As summer unfurls, the spotlight shines on companies like G&G Italia, masters of luxury outdoor furniture design. Renowned for its elegant, contemporary collections, G&G Italia has become a go-to name for five-star hotels, exclusive beach clubs, and private villas across Europe, who want to add refined style and comfort to their outdoor spaces. Their pieces add a sense of understated luxury and are designed to take open-air living to the same level of sophistication you would expect to find inside the home. Specialising in high-end outdoor furniture that balances comfort with cutting-edge design, G&G Italia’s collections are crafted with meticulous attention to detail and built to endure coastal climates without compromising on aesthetics. Their latest showcase, a spectacular villa in the hills of Marbella’s prestigious Sierra Blanca neighbourhood, is a stunning example of the company’s signature style: refined, modern, and seamlessly connected to the surrounding landscape. Working closely with the client, the team created a series of outdoor zones to enhance the function and
flow of the villa’s stunning architectural lines. From shaded terraces to the rooftop’s panoramic entertainment area, every inch of the project has been thoughtfully considered. The aim was to create distinct seating and dining zones using various collections that harmonise beautifully. Each space serves a purpose whether it’s lounging with friends, enjoying an al fresco dinner, or relaxing with a glass of wine while taking in the view, creating a desirable feeling and emotion.
The layout is a masterclass in indoor-outdoor living. Large-format sliding doors allow the villa’s main living areas to spill effortlessly onto elegant terraces, where carefully positioned furniture reflects the same modern sensibility as the interior design.
At the heart of the main terrace is the Lenny sofa collection that is bold, welcoming, and effortlessly chic. It’s a deep-seated lounge set that invites you to sink in and stay a while. Plush cushions wrapped in performance fabrics provide an ultra-comfortable seating experience without sacrificing
durability. Above, on the villa’s rooftop, G&G Italia has created another outdoor zone, this time with a focus on entertaining. Here, modular furniture pieces and low tables form a flexible layout for gatherings under the stars. With sweeping sea and mountain views all around, it’s an idyllic spot for cocktails at sunset and laidback afternoons.
As with all G&G Italia projects, the company offers a bespoke personalisation service. Choosing to customise pieces with a wide range of rope finishes and fabric colours allows each outdoor space to reflect the unique style and needs of its owners. The company’s Quick-Ship Programme, keeping many of their most soughtafter collections in stock at the Marbella-based warehouse, will also appeal to discerning clients. It means you don’t always have to wait for months for your furniture to be delivered, which is particularly helpful for those working to tight deadlines, or for those who have simply fallen in love with the designer pieces and can’t wait to enjoy them.

A MASTERPIECE OF MEDITERRANEAN ELEGANCE
BY CARLOS LAMAS
Tucked within one of the most esteemed gated enclaves of Marbella’s illustrious Golf Valley, this extraordinary villa is a peerless expression of contemporary Mediterranean luxury. Poised to capture uninterrupted vistas of the shimmering sea and the ethereal outline of the African coast beyond, the residence is a statement of refined living and a triumph of architectural artistry.
The visionary behind this work of distinction is Carlos Lamas, an acclaimed Argentinian architect whose name has become synonymous with intelligent design and sophisticated aesthetics along the southern shores of Spain and beyond. With his hallmark balance of clean lines and harmonious proportion, Lamas has conceived a home that effortlessly marries modernity with a sense of timeless elegance. Six impeccably designed en-suite bedrooms offer comfort and seclusion, each one a private retreat. Complementing these is a stylish guest cloakroom and an additional bathroom serving the villa’s indulgent spa area. At the very heart of the home lies a breathtaking double-height living space, centred around a three-sided gas fireplace which serves as an architectural sculpture in its own right, radiating physical warmth and a sense of poetic drama.
The bespoke Modulnova kitchen is a striking centrepiece, defined by refined lines, sleek gunmetal fixtures, and expansive porcelain tiles that unify the home with bold sophistication..
No detail has been overlooked in the pursuit of effortless living. A sophisticated home automation system orchestrates every element of comfort, from underfloor heating and zoned air conditioning to integrated audio and elegantly motorised curtains that create an environment that responds intuitively to every mood and moment.
The architectural narrative continues outside, with an infinity-edge pool that seems to dissolve into the sky, blurring the boundaries between land, sea, and horizon. Indoors, a sanctuary of leisure unfolds; a private playroom, sleek bar, fully equipped gymnasium, serene sauna, and a sumptuous heated indoor pool provide spaces for vitality and repose. This is not merely a residence; it is a masterfully composed lifestyle, shaped by vision, craftsmanship, and the serene rhythm of Mediterranean light. A rare and incomparable opportunity to inhabit elegance at its most elevated.

WHERE HEALTHY MEETS HEARTY GYM JUNKIE
by
Already a well-loved fixture in San Pedro de Alcántara, Gym Junkie has recently opened its doors in Nueva Andalucía, opposite the Hard Rock Hotel. Gym Junkie is a British-owned eatery that has quickly become a local favourite. Offering both indoor and outdoor seating, its broad appeal spans all age groups and nationalities, thanks to a thoughtfully curated menu that champions health, flavour, and affordability.
True to its mantra, Eat Clean… Stay Lean, the menu showcases nourishing, well-balanced dishes served with flair. The keto breakfast - chargrilled beef steak, scrambled eggs, and sautéed spinach - is a ‘breakfast of champions’, while the popular Junkie Breakfast features two eggs, turkey sausages, avocado, halloumi, spinach, and sweet potato hash, for just 13 Euros.
Lighter options include breakfast bowls, toasts, and protein-packed pancakes and waffles. The all-day menu extends to wraps, sandwiches, salad bowls, and a tempting selection of fish and meat dishes, typically served with grilled or steamed vegetables. The Jamaican Chicken Bowl is a customer favourite - flame-grilled chicken thighs marinated in bold island spices, served with rice and peas and a homemade healthy coleslaw.
For a ‘cheat day’, there is also classic comfort fare such as fish and chips, Southern-style burgers, and loaded nachos. The dessert menu is equally enticing, brimming with sweet treats to satisfy every craving. To wash it all
down, drinks include smoothies, shakes, fresh juices, artisan coffees, soft drinks, and a range of alcoholic beverages.
The décor is contemporary with an industrial-chic flair; solid wood tables, plush seating, and a welcoming bar area. The sunny terrace, with parasols and generously spaced tables, offers a relaxed setting, perfect for long, lazy lunches. Uplifting music and the warm, friendly team (many of whom are British and clearly love what they do) only add to the inviting atmosphere.
Despite the name, Gym Junkie isn’t just for fitness enthusiasts. Its diverse menu and vibrant energy attract a wide clientele, from families and couples to groups of friends. On our lunchtime visit, the place was buzzing, dishes flying out of the kitchen and diners of all kinds enjoying the atmosphere.
Open daily from 10am to 8pm (Sundays until 6pm).

SIPS OF SUNSHINE SUMMER WINES TO SAVOUR
BY FRENCH WINE MERCHANT NICOLAS
When the temperatures rise, the fresh, vibrant characteristics of white and rosé wines make them the drink of choice on warm days. With a wide variety of grape types and styles to choose from, here are some standout options that are ideal for the summer months.
Sauvignon Blanc
Celebrated for its zesty, aromatic profile, this white’s flavour depends on the region it comes from and will range from green apple and citrus, to tropical fruits like passion fruit and guava, and herbal notes like freshly cut grass. If you enjoy a more classic and crisp expression, French Sauvignon Blancs, especially those from the Loire Valley like the Sancerre Champs Clos or Pouilly Fumé Tonelum, are a great choice. For a fruitier, more tropical twist, explore bottles from New Zealand, which are known for their bold and expressive character. Our favourites are Cloudy Bay and the Wairau River for a great value wine.
Rosé
No summer wine list would be complete without rosé. Its fresh and fruity nature makes it incredibly appealing during hot days. Among the many rosé-producing regions, Provence in the south of France stands out for quality and popularity, producing light, delicate rosés that are perfect for summer. Made from a blend of different red grape varieties, Provence rosé is typically pale pink in colour and bursts with notes of red berries, citrus, and herbs. Its crisp and dry profile makes it a go-to option for long lunches, beach picnics, or evening gatherings. If you’re a rosé enthusiast, a bottle from Provence is a must-have in your summer wine selection. To list
a few, try Ultimate Provence, Les Valentines, Sainte Marguerite, Domaine
La Pallière, and, of course, the very famous ones like Minuty, Miraval, or Whispering Angel.
Chardonnay
Chardonnay is a versatile and widely loved white wine with a softer and more rounded taste than Sauvignon Blanc. You might find hints of orchard fruits, floral notes, and delicate spices. Some versions are aged in oak barrels, which imparts smooth vanilla and buttery tones. If you prefer something leaner and more mineral-driven, look for a Chablis; an unoaked Chardonnay from northern Burgundy that showcases purity and elegance. Search for the Chablis Old Vines Sainte Claire from Jean Marc Brocard rated 92 Parker points.
Pinot Grigio
Known for its easy-going personality, Pinot Grigio offers a light, crisp bouquet, though the flavour can vary depending on its origin and climate. This grape tends to have a touch of natural sweetness, which sometimes comes through on the palate. Expect subtle flavours of pear, green apple, and occasionally a floral lift from elderflower or a whisper of honey. We recommend Terra Serena, an expressive Italian Pinot Grigio, or a French Pinot Gris from Alsace for a crispier choice.
All the wines featured in this article are available for purchase at Nicolas. For more information and expert advice, pay a visit to one of their shops in C.C. Guadalmina in Guadalmina, C.C. Contur in Elviria, or Plaza Aloha in Aloha Gardens (Nueva Andalucía), or go to www.nicolasmarbella.com.

STAYING STRONG HOW TO MAINTAIN MUSCLES IN MENOPAUSE
BY RACHEL GARROD
As we age, our muscle mass naturally begins to decline. In our 40s, it’s often by as much as five per cent per decade. In postmenopausal women however, the speed of decline greatly accelerates due to the lack of oestrogen and the important role the hormone plays in muscle function and repair. Menopause causes a decrease in oestrogen in the body which leads to a decline in mitochondrial function, reduced energy production in muscle cells and, ultimately, apoptosis (cell death).
With this in mind, preventing age-related muscle loss is especially important for menopausal women. Strength training plays a vital role in this, and experts recommend incorporating it into our routines. Guidelines suggest at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorousintensity exercise per week, along with muscle-strengthening activities on at least two days.
Fortunately, research confirms the significant benefits of strength training for older women, including resistance exercises using bands, body weight, or free weights. A 20-week controlled trial examined the effects of a free-weight resistance training programme in menopausal women not on hormone replacement therapy, compared to premenopausal women. While all participants experienced increased upper and lower limb strength, only the premenopausal group showed muscle mass growth (hypertrophy) following the programme (Isenmann, 2023). Studies seem to suggest now, that for post-menopausal women, lifting heavier weights with fewer repetitions will
do more to prevent and correct age-related muscle loss than lighter weights with a greater number of repetitions.
A good guideline for strength training is to work at 60–80% of your six -Repetition Maximum (6-RM). This means you should use a weight that allows you to complete exactly six repetitions before your form breaks down or you can no longer lift it. If the weight is too heavy to complete six reps, reduce it slightly to stay within the 60–80 per cent range. If it feels too easy, increase it until you reach the correct intensity. To train effectively, choose the right weight, perform six repetitions with proper form, and repeat this for three sets. While a professional gym makes it easier to follow this method, having a set of dumbbells in different weights at home can also help achieve the same results.
Strength training with heavier weights doesn’t just build strength. It also boosts bone density, reduces the risk of fractures, and even increases your resting metabolism since muscle burns more energy than fat. But, if you’re hoping (or even worried) that you’ll suddenly bulk up like Arnold Schwarzenegger, then don’t. That level of muscle growth takes far more time and effort than a simple, twice weekly routine.
If you want help getting started with a strength training regime please get in touch with Rachel Garrod at Better Breathing Physio. Tel. (+34) 699 501 190, www.betterbreathingphysio.com
SCULPT, TONE, AND SMOOTH WITH MARBELLA BODY CONTOURING
THE BENEFITS OF EMSCULPTING AND VELASHAPE
Marbella Body Contouring has recently introduced a revolutionary approach to body sculpting and facial treatments. Offering two advanced, non-invasive therapies, EMSculpting and VelaShape, the clinic provides effective solutions for those seeking to tone muscles, reduce fat, and improve skin texture, without the need for surgery or recovery time. While each treatment has its distinct benefits, together they offer a synergistic approach to achieving a sculpted, smooth, and toned appearance.
EMSculpting uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to create intense muscle contractions, far beyond what a traditional workout can achieve. It triggers the equivalent of 20,000 crunches or squats in one 30-minute session, effectively targeting areas like the abdomen, buttocks, arms, and thighs.
Key Benefits include:
• Muscle Building: EMSculpting enhances muscle mass, resulting in a more defined, sculpted look.
• Fat Reduction: The powerful contractions also break down fat cells, which the body gradually eliminates.
• No Downtime: Treatments are quick, painless, and require no recovery period.
• Core Strength: Many clients report improved posture and stability due to stronger abdominal muscles.
VelaShape uses a combination of infrared light, radiofrequency energy, and vacuum technology to contour the body, reduce cellulite, and tighten skin. The treatment targets the superficial fat layer, stimulating circulation and encouraging lymphatic drainage, while promoting collagen production for firmer, smoother skin.
Key Benefits include:
• Cellulite Reduction: VelaShape visibly smooths out dimpled skin, particularly on the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen.
• Circumferential Reduction: The treatment reduces inches in treated areas by shrinking fat cells and improving skin elasticity.
• Improved Skin Texture: Stimulating collagen and elastin, VelaShape enhances skin firmness and youthful appearance.
• Comfortable Treatment: Clients often describe the experience as a warm, relaxing deep-tissue massage.
Better Together: A Synergistic Approach
When combined, EMSculpting and VelaShape offer a comprehensive body contouring solution. While EMSculpting defines and strengthens muscles, VelaShape smoothes and tightens the skin, providing an overall sculpted look. Whether preparing for a special event, starting a fitness journey, or simply aiming to boost confidence, this dynamic duo offers a personalised, non-invasive path to achieving your aesthetic goals.

SALONE DEL MOBILE 2025
WHAT WE SAW, FELT, AND LOVED IN MILAN
At this year’s Salone del Mobile, Milan didn’t just host design, it became design. For one week, the city transformed into a living canvas of ideas, textures, and experiences that offered a full-on immersive sensory experience. With over 370,000 visitors and more than 2,000 exhibitors, this 63rd edition was far more than product launches. It offered a vibrant melting pot of ideas and the values shaping our interiors, and our lives, in the future. But, the real power lay in its subtle shift from showing to storytelling. Here are a few of our personal highlights that have stayed with us long after we left.
Stepping Into the Story
Design became theatre, and we were in the front row. From Cassina’s sweeping Staging Modernity at Teatro Lirico to Kelly Wearstler’s surreal dreamscape of rugs and sculpture at Teatro Geronimo, this year Salone beautifully blurred the line between exhibit and experience. Dimorestudio’s velvet-drenched collaboration with Loro Piana felt like it was straight from a moody arthouse film, and Es Devlin’s Library of Light, a darkened room of 2,000 glowing, rotating books, was pure poetry. We weren’t just looking at design. We were inside it.
The Calm in the Chaos
In contrast to the drama, we noticed a huge presence of grounding, tactile forms and a return of earthy minimalism with designers leaning into creamy neutrals, warm woods, natural stones, and soft, touchable textures. American walnut, travertine, and those sculptural three-legged forms aren’t passing trends. They reflect a longing for calm and a deeper connection to our surroundings.
Lighting That Listens
Euroluce made a glowing return, both literally and conceptually. Sou Fujimoto’s Forest of Space offered a tranquil, illuminated landscape to wander through. At the lighting forums, conversations around circadian rhythms, ambient intelligence, and wellness-driven LEDs gave lighting a new lead role in how we live, feel, and recharge.
When Fashion Came to Play Interiors got dressed up this year and we loved it. The boundary between fashion and furniture has been well and truly crossed. Gucci introduced sculptural bamboo pieces, Saint Laurent revived Charlotte Perriand’s archival work with effortless chic, and Prada transformed Milano Centrale into a conversation about infrastructure and identity. And Louis Vuitton’s
Objets Nomades? Whimsical, exquisite, and yes, we did test the foosball table. Professionally, of course.
Design That Really Feels
This year’s “Thought for Humans” theme was more a mission statement than a theme. From modular, circular design systems to bio-based materials and emotionally aware lighting, we saw a collective shift in priorities. One panelist put it best: “We’re designing for how people want to feel, not just how they want to live.” That sentiment rang through every pavilion we visited.
Our Friends Steal the Show
We were especially proud to see some of our long-time friends and design visionaries making their mark. Eichholtz blended high-end hospitality with residential flair. Rimon Collection brought artistic sophistication with a global sensibility, and Casamance delivered timeless, tactile drama in a palette only they could pull off.
A New Generation Rises
We’ve covered Salone for years but 2025 felt like a turning point for youth, vision, and the buzz of what’s next. SaloneSatellite thrummed with possibility. Student attendance was up by 32 per cent, and their ideas felt bold, fresh, and genuinely necessary. Paolo Sorrentino’s cinematic entrance installation and Laboratorio’s Galician design kiosk reminded us that design is evolving and expanding into new cultural and creative terrains.
Salone del Mobile 2025 didn’t just point toward the future of design; it invited us to live it. It was a celebration of intentionality, tactility, and emotional intelligence. Not just beautiful spaces but thoughtful ones. And if Milan gave us any clue about what’s coming, it’s that the future of design feels good. It’s about what matters, and we’re ready to step into it.

IF I HAVE A SPANISH PROPERTY, DO I NEED A SPANISH WILL?
Having a Spanish will is not a legal requirement. However, If you live in the EU and own property in Spain, it’s a good idea to make one to avoid potential problems for your heirs.
The enactment of European Regulation No. 650/2012 on 4th July, which governs succession within the EU and introduces a European Certificate of Succession, makes it crucial to specify in your will which law applies to your estate; either the law of your nationality or your last habitual residence. Existing wills, especially those drafted before 17th August 2015, might face compliance issues or need complex processes like legalisation, translation, and obtaining an apostille for execution in other countries.
Making a will in Spain ensures your Spanish property is handled exactly how you want. Some of the key benefits include: It’s cost effective It is generally cheaper to create a will than for heirs to navigate complex legal procedures to claim an inheritance without one. It saves time Having a Spanish will reduces the time and admin required for heirs, especially important given the six-month deadline for paying inheritance tax in Spain.
It avoids confusion Clearly stated wishes in a will help prevent disputes among heirs and ensure that your estate is distributed according to your desires.
It bypasses the strict Spanish inheritance laws Without a will, Spanish law automatically splits your estate into three parts for your direct family. These default rules might not match what you want. By making a will, you ensure that your property and money go exactly where you intend, giving you greater control over who inherits your assets.
Our Marbella-based law firm, Welex, can assist in reviewing and adjusting your will to align with current regulations. We can also help you draft and sign a Spanish will. We prepare the will in Spanish and your language and assist you at the notary signing
