The More I Teach, the Less I Know

Year 1998 I hit my first chalk dusty dark classroom

I graduated from college and had my first job as a Psychology instructor to freshmen BS Nursing and AB students. I taught with all the idealism and pains of youth. I taught to heal myself by healing others. I thought of healing my students from the horrors of an indifferent educational system, indifferent to the sensitivities and insecurities of youth, indifferent to the creativity and energy of these young bodies, indifferent to their struggles to be loved and accepted, indifferent to all that they were capable of.

I found myself burning and burning and eventually landing in a hospital yet still finding myself yearning to be back in that old dark classroom filled with young minds, then like me, waiting to be inspired or whose inspirations to be acknowledged.

That spark slowly flickered through the years... as I moved on to more curriculum and content-based institutions. I was slowly overwhelmed with the guidelines to be administered and breadth of content to be covered - and for the first time- to be told how to teach. My spirit as well as my pains flickered silently to death. I was wishing to be given the freedom to teach Psychology the way I knew best - teach from the heart and to the heart.

I was wishing to find an institution that encourages and not only allows me freedom to teach creatively, to value it and just not to mind it, to honor it and not just to appreciate it. Nine long years after, I found myself in that place. Acknowledged and supported for my creative ways of reaching out the content. I found kindred souls in education and its progressive philosophy. It feels like finding a place under the sun, not feeling too lonely in my crusades. I finally found people who shared my passion

for new ways of teaching and learning new ways of learning Apparently though, all these are aged old wisdom " I do, and I understand"

I never thought of asking these question to myself one day, " What truly makes a great teacher?"

One who is but true to herself?

One who can inspire?

One who ceases not to learn?

One who has mastered her craft?

One who can hear her students' hearts?

One who can stimulate their already brilliant minds?

One who is prepared and organized?

One who is spontaneous?

One who is spiritual?

One who is an intellectual?

One who only facilitates?

One who can command?

Who can entertain or one who can teach how to focus and persevere?

One who is a friend or the one who serves?

One who can entertain or one who can discipline?

I had all my answers tightly secured in my knowing and feelings the first day I taught 11 years ago. At present, I have more questions than one.

Unfolding the Mat

In addition, my satisfaction as a yoga teacher stems from more than just seeing my pupils and my clients improve. Being a teacher also means constantly expanding one ' s own horizons. While teaching others, I am also developing my own knowledge of yoga and honing my teaching skills. This never-ending quest for knowledge ensures that education remains stimulating even after many years have passed. Yoga is a complete system for health and wellness; it benefits the body, mind, and soul. Teaching yoga has given me inner calm and equilibrium over the years. My yoga practice is my haven of peace and quiet where I can refocus on myself amidst the chaos of daily life.

Teaching yoga goes beyond simply demonstrating poses. It's a chance to spread well-being and serenity throughout the world and to carry that sense of peace beyond the yoga mat. By cultivating patience and calmness in the midst of chaos, we can embody the essence of yoga in both body and soul As someone who has spent many years as a yoga instructor, I can personally attest to the immense satisfaction and joy that this practice brings

The combination of physical and mental training offered by yoga was first what drew me to the practice Yoga went beyond the traditional concept of exercise by providing benefits for both the body and the mind My exploration of yoga led me to become an instructor because of the significant effect it had on me The positive change I see in my pupils as we practice is a major inspiration for me to keep teaching yoga The benefits of yoga are extensive, ranging from physical enhancements like increased flexibility and strength to psychological gains like reduced stress and increased calmness To have played a key role in this shift is an honor and a great source of personal fulfillment

Being a yoga teacher has given me access to a kind and welcoming group of people. The ties and friendships I've developed with my students and other yoga practitioners have brought so much joy and fulfillment into my life. Another important factor in my dedication is the underlying concept of yoga, which emphasizes self-awareness, kindness, and togetherness. I hope to make the world a more compassionate and aware place through my yoga teaching. Being a yoga teacher allows me to contribute to the development of both my pupils and myself. It's a trip distinguished by never-ending education, radical changes, and the propagation of health. The joy that comes from helping people and making a difference in their lives is unparalleled

For me, teaching yoga is more than a job, it's a calling that keeps me going Every day, I roll out my mat because teaching yoga brings me so much happiness, contentment, and inner calm My heart overflows with appreciation for the chance to share yoga with others, and I eagerly anticipate the many insights and opportunities that lie ahead

The Balancing Act being a Career Woman, Mother, & Wife

Having spent a quarter of a century as a teacher, my journey is not just confined to classrooms and textbooks; it extends to being a dedicated mother and wife The path has been far from easy, but every challenge faced and overcome has been a testament to the strength of womanhood.

Over 25 years, teaching has evolved tremendously, with new technologies, methodologies, and ever-changing student needs Adapting to these changes, while being efficient, required time, effort, and perseverance My passion for imparting knowledge and the joy of witnessing the growth and development of my students have kept me motivated through it all.

Parallel to my career, being a mother and a wife have equally significant roles in shaping my life Motherhood brought its own set of challenges and responsibilities Raising children while managing a career can often feel like walking a tightrope. However, the sight of my children growing, learning, and succeeding has made every effort worthwhile.

Being a wife added another layer to this balancing act Maintaining a healthy relationship requires constant nurturing, understanding, and patience Despite the tight schedule, setting aside quality time for my spouse and supporting each other through life's ups and downs has helped in strengthening our bond.

One of the key challenges I faced was finding a work-life balance. Being available for my students, while ensuring I was there for my children’s milestones, required meticulous planning and a good support system I often felt pulled in several directions However, prioritizing tasks, delegating when possible, and accepting that not everything needs to be perfect helped me manage better.

Another challenge was dealing with guilt, a feeling many working mothers can resonate with. Initially, I often found myself feeling guilty for missing out on some moments with my family due to work commitments, or not being able to give my best at work because of family obligations. With time, I learned to accept that it is normal not to be present everywhere, and it doesn’t make me any less of a mother, wife, or teacher.

Despite these challenges, the journey has been rewarding. My career has allowed me to shape young minds and contribute to society, something I take immense pride in.

On the other hand, my family has been my source of comfort, love, and inspiration. Balancing these roles has taught me resilience, patience, and the art of multitasking.

My advice to other women juggling various roles is to take time for self-care. It’s important to replenish our energy and nurture our interests to avoid burnout. Additionally, open communication with your partner and children about your work commitments can help in managing expectations and building a supportive environment

To conclude, my journey as a teacher, mother, and wife has been a roller coaster ride of challenges, joys, lessons, and accomplishments It has been a journey of growth and self-discovery, a testament to the strength and resilience of women Being able to balance these roles is not about perfection but about embracing the chaos, celebrating the victories, and learning from the challenges

The Euphoria of Dancing

When you finally make it out onto the dance floor, you may forget about your troubles for a while. When the music begins to play and your body begins to move to the beat, you know that you are truly at liberty. That's the power of dance: it can be a means of expression, a way to get in shape, and even a competitive activity.

Dancing is more than a pastime for me; it's a way to share who I am with the world and express myself in a way that words can't describe. Dancing to music is a simple yet effective way to boost your mood and selfconfidence. The pleasure of moving one ' s body to music is shared throughout cultures, whether one is dancing the graceful waltz, the fiery salsa, or the energizing hip-hop.

Dancing is incredible, and so is its capacity to help you become in shape. Dance is a great kind of exercise since it improves your cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, flexibility, and coordination. But it's not your typical exercise routine; rather, it's a fun and interactive experience where you can work toward your fitness objectives while having a great time and being immersed in beautiful rhythms.

The dance floor is a place to exercise your mind as well as your body. Dancing requires focus, fast thinking, and originality. Dancing is great for your brain since it challenges your concentration, memory, and coordination in addition to your muscles and joints. Combining physical activity with mental challenge is a holistic way to improve health. When dancing becomes a competitive activity, the intensity of its fans' devotion only grows. The exhilarating element of competition is amplified in dance sport. Precision, skill, and performance under duress have replaced a focus on rhythm and steps as the primary criteria for success.

since dancers must coordinate their movements and read each other's facial expressions and body language in real time. The thrill of competition amps up the fun and keeps dancers on their toes as they work to improve their skills. Despite the rigors of practice and competition, the joys of performance and competition and the satisfaction of growth make dance sport an enormously rewarding endeavor. Every dance competition is a showcase for talent, a chance to push oneself to new limits, and a tribute to the joy of movement. The essence of dance is the same whether you dance for exercise, competition, or pure enjoyment. It's an adventure in expressing oneself, a celebration of one ' s own happiness, and a celebration of the powers of the human body. The joy of dance rests in its capacity to bring people together, to break down barriers, and to share joy.The pursuit of dance in all its forms is an adventure in self-discovery, physical challenge, and invigorating expression. As a sport, it is a celebration of movement and rhythm and a tribute to perseverance and control. Expressions of joy, strength, and passion may be communicated through dance in a way that no other language can match. It's the ideal combination of art, fitness, and sport, and it's an amazing ride that does all three.

Examining the use of Artificial Intelligence in Education

An article by Rappler journalist Juniesy Estanislao, published on January 23, 2023, provides a foreshadowing of the future of education The title reads: “The academe strikes back: The rise of AI,” reminiscent of the beloved all-time classic film series Star Wars that was enjoyed by generations of sci-fi fans

The article discussed the emerging use of artificial intelligence (AI) applications that are being used by students to accomplish their essays and other academic requirements that require extensive writing This poses, accordingly, a huge challenge for teachers, students, and policymakers alike The author argued that while on the one hand technological advancements have made teachers’ work lighter, the use of AI by students can be considered academic dishonesty

Herein comes the debate on the role of AI in the academic setting It begs the following questions, among others: Does the use of AI constitute some form of ethical dilemma? What policies should be formulated, especially by higher education authorities, concerning the use of AI? How does the emergence of AI effectively transform the role of the teacher?

In light of this subject matter, I have made some cursory inquiries among my respected colleagues in higher education and their responses are surprisingly divided. A social studies professor in the Philippines explained: “AI must be embraced as a technological tool that transforms education. However, we must take full responsibility as teachers in validating students’ outputs. That has always been the role of the teacher since the dawn of history. Teachers’ responsibilities must be forged even more as technology is sending us a message

here.” In sharp contrast, a professor who teaches abroad shared his own reflection about the growing influence of AI in education, saying: “Just because they (AI) are pervasive and inevitable doesn’t mean they cannot be removed from academic endeavors, structures and systems when they go berserk and harms [sic] systems. That’s what I think right now. As of the moment, our education system still considers AI suspect, unreliable, and therefore we highly discourage students from using it. Our message is clear: AI in academic writing is unethical.”

Cognizant of its effect to education, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) introduced a novel concept called “human-centered approach to AI.” It introduces 10 “guardrails” to protect human beings from the potential harm that AI can bring to education and other frontiers of developments. It includes Safety and Security as well as Responsibility and Accountability, among others.

Indeed, the fast-paced development of technology should be accepted as a reality in this day and age. Transformative education subsumes the efficient and effective use of technology. However, the ideal roles of teachers in forming ethical and socially responsive citizens must be top priority. This means that while AI should be accepted in certain terms, mechanisms that safeguard academic honesty must be made stronger today.

AI is the canary in the coal mine for the strength of our academic institutions!

Journey to Healing

Every journey begins with one small step. It is normal to feel scared once you do a life changing decision most especially when it comes to your health and well-being. We got used to do things that seem so conventional like eating our comfort food and staying late at night to watch your favorite movies, or if you have some work-related stuff to, then you might as well stay up late. However, we tend not to notice the hazards of these conventional day to day routines. It has even come to a point that it already obstructed the quality of your life. Do not be afraid to feel scared in taking the initial step because that is exactly what you need to be healed. Life is uncertain and the curious paradox of healing is that opposites can be true at the same time Assume that the same boiling water that softens the potato also hardens the egg The same is true for fire, which hardens steel by melting it You can't wait till life is no longer difficult to learn to be joyful After all, it will never be easy And easier things are often unappreciated

I thought at first I already learned how to manage my emotions very well until I get to experience anxiety. Well, for some people who didn't get to experience this, it may sound too absurd. But mind you, anxiety is real. Some would think that it is because you ' ve got lesser faith in God that is why you are experiencing this and all that. People may find it easy and are always free to give unsolicited comments and reactions But for someone who is having this nightmare, it will be one of the toughest battles to deal with Just keep the faith because healing is on its way After all, it is your battle, not theirs Our state of mind sets the tone for everything in our life Let us always be thankful for the many benefits we receive each day Our feelings are valid But, we are responsible with what to do with it Most of us know the Word of God is a source of hope and solace in emotional distress

Regardless of how strong our religion is, we all face sadness and anxiety from time to time Thankfully, the Bible doesn’t shy away from addressing these issues head-on When you claim God’s promises, He helps you overcome hopelessness and changes your perspective

To rediscover hope when you need it most, we encourage you to create a collection of Bible verses that speak to your spirit By praying and meditating on them, you’ll find peace and draw closer to God, even amid pain You get what you believe Remember, you ’ re not alone You are your own best friend so never ever put yourself on a disadvantaged position

What Teaching Writing Means to Me

To be able to teach writing for me transcends the sharing of understanding and skills that my students must possess; more importantly, I see teaching writing as my opportunity to make it more student-friendly, more relatable, and more tailor-fitted to my students. I want to inspire and make them realize that writing is never a boring task to do. I like them to get thrilled whenever they are learning new concepts about developing their writings, may it be creative fiction or non-fiction. I envision that they too will echo the beauty and wonder of how interesting writing is.

“Teacher cognition” indeed found its way as to how I will approach the teaching of writing. At first, I thought that the typical inductive way of teaching it will also work for my students, as it did when I was at their age. I always give the rule and let them apply it on a controlled writing. As funny as it may seem, not even 25% of my class enjoyed what worked for me up to now After a decent year of introspection and observation, I guess that I am on that part of establishing that approach on how to teach writing effectively

Now, making my students express who they are and what they need concern me the most in my teaching With a rather student-centered approach, I concluded that most of my students, regardless of their courses and tracks, are afraid to write because of their fear of committing grammar errors This situation led me to thinking on how to address such feeling Will it be okay if I’ll let them write without checking on their grammar? Or is it even acceptable to set aside grammar? I took the chance and the result took me by surprise that by giving them topics that they can relate to and commending them on the content, rather than the accuracy of their grammar, encouraged them to give writing a try By then, I realized that it is important that my students have to find their “voices” first and create an authentic writing, giving a student a sense of self-empowerment In support to this, Hunt (1983) exposed that by focusing on

grammar and syntax may lead to a habit of students making similar structures and even patterns to avoid future mistakes, leading to a complacency of not taking new concepts I always set a sense of a student-centered class by facilitating negotiated interaction, which according to Straub (2000) help in developing the willingness and guidance that students need in writing This philosophy which I later known as Expressionist deviates from “Engfish”, a term used by Macrorie (1970) to describe a language that rather conceals a personal self that reveals it

Most of the times, I employ Free-Writing Approach to get a more consistent track of the faults and improvements of my students in writing If there are essential structures and forms that I have to focus on, I resort to the “Controlled-to-Free” Approach After studying ESL writing, I am quite positive that by using the written works done by my students, for their co-students to react to will really make them interested and ecstatic

I also believe in the concept of Cognitive psychology that people learn in sequence, and in crucial points supports the Expressionist view. Teachers have to be aware that we can’t teach grammar rules first, without learning the subjects and predicates. In addition, I consider that “reflexive” writing, which is personal, makes the students grip firmly to writing; if the topics and ideas allow him to relate to his experiences and feelings.

Deriving the concept from Jean Piaget’s Cognitive Development theory, James Moffet’s Teaching the Universe of Discourse suggested a sequential curriculum which is consisted of progression from personal to impersonal and low to high levels of abstraction. Flower and Hayes (1981) also pointed that the content and skills in the hierarchy are embedded within any other, and are essential in moving to the next level. As one may argue the universality of human mind and psychology in general, Silva (1993: 669) imparts that L1 writing is ‘strategically, rhetorically and linguistically different from L2 writing’.

TEACHER'S GUIDE 7 VOLUME 1, ISSUE 2 JUNE 2023
Essay

Speaking of sequence and hierarchy, Raimes (1998) said that by mixing and probably using all the language skills in teaching writing, brings the learning closer to ‘real-life communicative situations’. I also see that by integrating writing to a skill or skills that the students are more competent with, he’ll get a more meaningful and stronger bond to writing.

In assessing my students’ works, I always ensure that I had shown them the rubrics as to how they will be graded. Giving them the standards before the task for me conditions and allows my students to recall and prepare themselves, just like what Douglas (2000: 50) suggested. As I admitted to myself that it is very tedious to device and modify rubrics focusing less on grammar, most of the times I just remove the criterion for grammar accuracy. I also observed that since students have formed some habits and incorrect concepts from their earlier teachers, I accepted the fact that changing these habits will not be altered in one day or even a year. I started with analytic rubric for the first three months to establish the specificity of the basic skills they have to acquire After I see acceptable developments, I will resort to using holistic rubrics There are also times that I skim on their works to find common grammar and sentence construction issues and echo it to the class before starting with a new topic I also made them create their portfolios to compile their works More than

anything else, I let them compile written activities to that portfolio and not the quizzes about content. I hope that I am not the only that has this comment but wayback in my high school years, I had this notion that portfolios are just like photo albums used to store my works and focus on how to make it picturesque. In my undergraduate, I asked myself that there has to be more than that. More than the average of the grades accumulated, portfolios have to be graded on their content (White (1994: 127). The difficulty lies on how are these collected materials be graded as one since portfolio is a single collection of written works (Grabe and Kaplan, 1996: 417).

In a nutshell, teaching of writing for me is the meeting of the known and unknown. We continue to get along with the fact that English is our second language and therefore have to exert much effort in dealing with it (Richards,). As there are variety and often opposing views on how to teach it, I settle to the undeniable Postmethod idea that teachers have the power to design what’s best for their students On my case, I see students of L2 writing as fragile, innocent, and diverse Teachers have to be aware of students’ misconceptions and try to pull them in by giving interesting, real-life, and integral writing tasks and assessments

The Calculus Conundrum: Unraveling Mathematics Anxiety Among Engineering Students

Mathematics, often regarded as the universal language of science and engineering, plays a pivotal role in the education of engineering students. However, behind the façade of complex equations and intricate problemsolving lies a prevalent issue known as mathematics anxiety. This composition delves into the realm of mathematics anxiety among engineering students, shedding light on its causes, consequences, and potential remedies.

Mathematics anxiety refers to the feeling of apprehension, tension, or fear experienced by individuals when confronted with mathematical tasks or concepts. It can manifest as a paralyzing fear of numbers, an aversion to math-related subjects, or an overwhelming sense of panic during examinations. For engineering students, who encounter complex mathematical concepts daily, mathematics anxiety can significantly hinder their learning experience and academic performance.

Negative experiences during early math education can pave the way for mathematics anxiety. Students who have struggled with foundational mathematical concepts or encountered unsupportive teaching methods may develop a fear of mathematics that persists into their engineering studies. The rigorous demands of engineering programs often create immense pressure on students. The fear of failure and the need to meet high-performance expectations can contribute to mathematics anxiety. Some engineering students may struggle to see the direct application of complex mathematical concepts especially in Calculus in their future careers, leading to a lack of motivation and increased anxiety. Mathematics anxiety can impede a student's ability to comprehend and apply mathematical

principles, resulting in lower grades and reduced confidence in their abilities The fear of mathematics can dissuade engineering students from pursuing math-intensive fields within their discipline, limiting their professional opportunities and potentially hindering innovation Mathematics anxiety can have a detrimental impact on an individual's self-esteem, causing feelings of inadequacy and frustration. Eventually, can lead to increased stress and mental health issues.

Educators can also use instructional strategies that foster a good and inclusive learning atmosphere. Encouraging collaboration, providing clear explanations, and offering additional resources can help alleviate mathematics anxiety. Early intervention programs that address gaps in foundational math skills can prevent the accumulation of anxiety-inducing knowledge gaps. Demonstrating the practicality and relevance of mathematical concepts within engineering fields can enhance students' engagement and motivation.

Mindfulness methods, such as deep breathing can assist engineering students in managing anxiety symptoms while performing mathematical tasks. Students' confidence and anxiety can be increased by gradually exposing them to increasingly difficult math tasks.Encouraging peer support groups or obtaining tutoring can give a platform for students to communicate their issues, receive insights, and improve their mathematics skills. Through the constructive support of the teacher, students can combat the anxiety effect of Mathematics specifically calculus.

Empowering Educators: Unleashing the Potential of Action Research for Classroom Excellence

Teachers play a pivotal role as solutionmakers in their respective classrooms and schools. Each day, they engage in a continuous teaching and learning process, effectively becoming researchers in their own right. By addressing the daily challenges, they encounter in their professional careers, teachers engage in the form of action research, constantly seeking ways to cater to their student's needs and improve the educational experience.

The trend of action research has gained prominence among educators, empowering them to tackle various school-based issues and concerns. These questions revolve around students' academic performance, behavior, the learning environment, instructional materials, assessment practices, classroom management, and more.

Despite the importance of action research, some teachers hesitate to engage in it for various reasons These may include a lack of background and training in research methodologies, insufficient writing skills, and the perceived tediousness of the research process However, it is essential to recognize that teachers constantly implement innovative strategies and interventions to enhance instruction and the teachinglearning process, even though many are not formally documented

Action research is a valuable tool for gathering and documenting the solutions, teachers apply to address their challenges By formalizing these practices through action research, practical insights, and best practices can be shared, contributing to the overall improvement of the educational system

Since its introduction and promotion, educational institutions must further disseminate and encourage action research

“Poverty in the world is a scandal. In a world where there is so much wealth, so many resources to feed everyone, it is unfathomable that there are so many hungry children, that there are so many children without an education, so many poor persons. Poverty today is a cry. ” —

Financial Management a Must

Do financial management and literacy still matter today? How frequently do we give attention to it? Some basic financial thoughts to ponder

Do you believe that financial management and financial literacy are still significant in light of the current increase in the pricing of the majority of the goods and services offered in our country? You leave your room and spend the day somewhere else As you try to keep track of all your expenses, you'll see how much they differ from what you paid previously for things like transportation, meals, and other services you will pay for that day

Everyone may be impacted by this inflation in terms of their income and spending habits According to the article, “The Philippine Economic Update: Bracing for Headwinds, Advancing Food Security (December 2022)”, it was predicted in 2022 that for this year 2023, there will be a decreased consumer demand, together with high inflation and high-interest rates that are likely to restrain household spending and investments. This suggests that we should review how we handle our finances. It's time to improve our understanding of finances. We need to understand where our money is coming from and going to.

Nowadays, many different financial institutions are offering loans, but the question is: Do we really need to take advantage of these loans? When we use the net proceeds from our loan, where will we store them? Do we only use it for expenditures? Do we buy an asset with it? Do

we employ it for commercial endeavors? Regardless of the reason of availing such a loan, we should keep in mind that the loan we intend to use contains interest. So, while deciding where to invest the aforementioned net proceeds, we took future cash inflows into account.

In terms of investment, we tend to ask: Where is the finest place to invest? Is it better to invest in stocks, debt securities, and mutual funds? Is it on the investment property? No matter what kind of investment we purchase, it's crucial to consider the potential future cash flows and length of return on such investments

Moreover, we should first assess our current financial capacity, as well as the cash inflows and outflows from our available resources Prior to making any form of investment, we should first ensure our liquidity In terms of spending behavior, is spending within our means truly a smart idea or Is it better to state that we need to increase or find new sources of income rather than reduce our spending?

In light of the aforementioned inquiries, my personal opinion is that in order to avoid being burdened by making larger interest payments, we must be aware of when and where to apply for loans To beat inflation, we should be frugal with our money and ensure that we have some investments However, because there are always uncertainties, our savings should not also be zeroed out Therefore, regardless of our current financial situation, financial management and literacy are still significant to us. Today, there are many books on financial literacy and management that may be read or heard to help us become more financially literate. But do we have enough time to read or listen to them?

A Decade of K to 12: Embracing the Multilingual Path

For a decade now, the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum has been an everevolving landscape in the Philippines, witnessing an array of innovative practices that have left a lasting impact on the educational system Amidst this journey, one approach has garnered considerable attention and mixed reviews from parents, students, and educators alike – the mother tonguebased multilingual education (MTB-MLE)

At its core, MTB-MLE is founded on the belief that nurturing learning and thinking skills in students through their native language empowers them to excel in a multilingual society. By immersing students in their beloved language, MTB-MLE fosters higher order thinking skills (HOTS) and builds a sturdy foundation in their mother tongue. Moreover, it plays a pivotal role in instilling pride in students' heritage language and culture, significantly enhancing their overall academic achievements.

Extensive research supports the advantages of initiating education in a child's mother tongue, facilitating better understanding and acquisition of additional languages, leading to improved learning outcomes, and fostering effective communication between students and teachers.

Despite the numerous benefits of MTBMLE, its implementation has not been without challenges, demanding a closer look. Teachers have observed certain plateaus in students' reading abilities and comprehension skills, raising questions about the effectiveness of MTB-MLE in developing critical thinking and reasoning as they transition to a second language in higher grades. Additionally, the inclusion of vernacular words with limited practical application in students' later lives calls for thoughtful consideration.

To surmount these hurdles and garner unwavering support for MTB-MLE, a paradigm shift in its implementation is called for A holistic approach entails embracing MTB-MLE not solely as a learning tool in Key Stage 1 but as a core subject throughout the main education program (Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2) By adopting this approach, students can confidently express themselves without language barriers, honing their cognitive abilities in their mother tongue

Moreover, comprehensive MTB-MLE implementation will further kindle students' appreciation for their cultural heritage This reimagined MTB-MLE approach aligns with the Ministry of Education's vision to provide quality education that meets students where they are, thus forming a strong foundation for empowering individuals and society

As the MTB-MLE in the Philippines reaches its ten-year milestone, it continues to garner both accolades and criticisms from education stakeholders While the efficacy of using the mother tongue as a teaching medium is evident in fostering critical thinking and literacy skills, challenges persist, especially as students move to higher grades.

Embracing a comprehensive and updated MTB-MLE from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 offers an opportunity to effectively address these challenges and create a more inclusive and successful educational journey for students. With such a progressive approach, MTB-MLE can genuinely emerge as an integral component of quality education, contributing to the empowerment of individuals and communities.

Through the challenges and triumphs, the evolution of MTB-MLE demonstrates the willingness of the Philippine education system to embrace change and strive for inclusivity.

The Truth About Love

You tasted love that made you bitter, Thinking life hasn't dealt you a fair hand You let your feelings drag you down into despair, Drain your spirit that you can't stand

At some instant, the world will fall upon you like mad

The death of love may like be death itself With shattered heart, you keep on longing for what you had It cuts so deep, takes away all the strength that's left.

"Why does life have to be like this?"

Yes! Everybody has to get hurt sometimes cause in love, everything is not joy and bliss. As love is not as easy as making rhymes.

Love is a fiend, a fire, a heaven, a hell, The most transient of passions Where pleasures, pain, and sad repentance dwell. It deludes and surrounds you with confusions.

Hirap man tanggapin, ika'y aking palayain

Lagi kang nasa puso at isipan, kahit ika'y lumisan

Minilyon Poetry

Gitapigan, gi-ampingan, murag dili makuptan bisan ni kinsa man.

Nihangyo ang higala apan wala tagda, bisag gakamang ug naamang, way tabang.

Karon, ikaw akong pangutan-on Gi-unsa nimo imong minilyon?

Gakutoy, gikabuhi sa kagutom, pagkanindot unta mawad-an og kinabuhi.

Manglimos bahalag uwaw, bisan man kami ibugaw sa mga tawo.

Ang among kawad-on nakatatak na sa among kaugalingon, sama sa usa ka komplikasyon nga kinahanglan og atensyon.

Ingon sila di magsalig sa gobyerno, panarbaho. Pero kami nga way edukasyon, unsaon?

Abilidad? Apan kami wa may kapasidad.

Ginoo ray taming, kay di mi ka-tayming og lider nga naning.

Among hangyo, hinaut among mga yangu-ngo, mopatigbabaw sa babaw.

Ayaw kami hikawi, ayaw kami hukmi.

The Imperative of Information Literacy and Technological Skills for Teachers

In today's fast-paced and interconnected world, the role of teachers extends beyond imparting knowledge to students. They are not just educators but also facilitators of learning, guiding students through a vast sea of information and technology. To fulfill this evolving role, it is paramount for teachers to be both information literate and technologically skilled. This essay delves into the importance of these competencies for educators and their profound impact on the quality of education in the 21st century.

Information literacy is the ability to locate, evaluate, and effectively use information from various sources. In an age characterized by an explosion of data, possessing information literacy skills equips teachers to navigate the vast sea of knowledge and curate relevant and reliable information for their students. By being information literate, teachers can discern credible sources, filter out misinformation, and ensure their students receive accurate and upto-date content. This cultivates a culture of critical thinking and curiosity among students, fostering a love for learning that extends far beyond the classroom.

Moreover, information literacy empowers teachers to stay updated with the latest educational research, teaching methodologies, and best practices. Access to scholarly articles, peer-reviewed journals, and online repositories helps teachers enhance their pedagogical techniques and adapt to the changing needs of their students.

In an era dominated by technology, being technologically skilled is no longer an option but a necessity for teachers Integrating technology into the classroom not only engages students but also enhances the learning experience Technologically adept teachers can leverage various digital tools, educational apps, and interactive platforms to create dynamic and personalized lessons This approach caters to different learning styles, making education more inclusive and accessible

Furthermore, technology enables teachers to extend learning beyond the confines of traditional classroom walls Virtual field trips, webinars with subject experts, and collaborative projects with students from around the world enrich the educational experience and cultivate a global perspective

Information literacy and technological skills are not mutually exclusive but rather complement each other in an educator's toolkit. A teacher who possesses both competencies can harness the power of technology to enhance their information-seeking abilities and vice versa. By leveraging technology, teachers can access vast databases, digital libraries, and educational resources, thereby expanding their information literacy capabilities.

Moreover, the combination of information literacy and technological skills fosters innovation in the classroom. Teachers can utilize technology to create interactive assessments, track student progress, and implement data-driven teaching strategies, enabling personalized learning journeys for each student.

With all these being said, the importance of information literacy and technological skills for teachers cannot be overstated in the modern world. These competencies empower educators to be effective facilitators of knowledge, cultivators of critical thinking, and enablers of lifelong learning. By staying informed, adapting to technological advancements, and incorporating innovative teaching practices, teachers can truly shape the future and nurture the potential of the next generation. Embracing information literacy and technological skills is not only a professional obligation for teachers but also a transformative means to elevate the quality of education and prepare students for success in the 21st-century global landscape.

Adaptability in Human Resources Planning for the Future

A paradigm shift in Human Resources (HR) planning is required in light of the fact that, in today's rapidly evolving world, businesses face unprecedented challenges and uncertainties. The ability to quickly respond and adapt to changing circumstances, technologies, and workforce dynamics is crucial for the future of human resources.

Human resource strategy in the future will depend heavily on technological developments. Human resource managers need to learn how to take advantage of the changes brought about by automation, AI, and digitalization in the workplace In order to stay competitive in today's job market, businesses need to upskill and reskill their employees, as well as identify roles that can be automated

A diverse group of people from different backgrounds and of different ages will make up the workforce of the future An inclusive and adaptable workplace is fostered when HR strategies are revised to account for these changes Organizational culture can be improved by instituting policies that allow for remote work, establishing mentoring programs, and facilitating interactions between employees of different generations

Human resource strategies need to be flexible enough to account for potential talent gaps and shortages in key areas of expertise as industries undergo rapid transformation Proactively planning recruitment, training, and succession requires HR professionals to identify critical skill sets and forecast future talent needs. Skill gaps can be closed and a qualified workforce secured through collaboration with educational institutions and the implementation of efficient learning and development programs.

A company ' s success hinges on its ability to quickly adjust to new demands and to attract and retain the best employees. Building agile talent acquisition processes that prioritize employer branding, candidate experience, and role alignment is an important part of HR planning. Similarly, increasing engagement and

satisfaction within an organization's workforce will boost retention rates, decrease turnover costs, and ensure the continuity of operations.

HR planning for the future necessitates a fundamental shift in learning and development (L&D) strategies. Adopting continuous learning frameworks, microlearning modules, and personalized development plans will empower employees to acquire new skills and stay relevant in their roles. Additionally, HR must encourage a growth mindset across the organization, fostering a culture where learning is embraced as a lifelong journey

The ability to anticipate and plan for changes in organizational leadership is a key component of flexible human resource management Succession planning will go off without a hitch if you take the time to identify high-potential employees, provide them with opportunities to grow as leaders, and foster an environment where mentorship is encouraged The success of any organization is dependent on its leaders' ability to deal with uncertainty and to inspire their followers

Significant shifts are on the horizon, whether they take the form of economic fluctuations, market disruptions, or industry transformations Human resources strategies should include change management techniques to help staff members adapt to new circumstances Organizations can better weather volatility and rebound from adversity if they foster a culture that embraces and promotes change

New technology developments appear every day, creating new possibilities and altering the planet. These technological developments have a wide range of effects on both society as a whole and on individual human lives, ranging from the wonders of intelligence to the complexities of biotechnology. This essay will explore how technology is evolving, looking at its consequences, potential advantages, and difficulties.

Technology progress is a force that keeps accelerating and is continuously pushing the limits of innovation As Moore's Law predicted, computing power would double every two years, and this has happened. Innovations in industries including healthcare, transportation, and communication have resulted from this rise. Our world's interconnectedness has been further cemented by the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G networks, creating opportunities for information sharing and digital experiences

The desire to make people's lives better is at the core of innovations. With improvements in imaging, robotic surgery, and individualized medicines based on genomes, the healthcare industry has undergone a revolution. Technologies like gadgets and health applications enable people to take charge of their health Additionally, learning platforms and interactive tools that accommodate various learning styles have allowed education to transcend the walls of the classroom.

Globally, technological progress has opened up economic prospects. Platforms for ecommerce have made it possible for entrepreneurs and small businesses to access global markets The growth of digital platforms has fueled the gig economy by allowing people to monetize their skills and services from a distance. Parallel to this, Industry 4.0 introduces the incorporation of cyber-physical systems, AI, and big data in production, resulting in higher productivity and economic expansion.

Technology improvements provide advantages, but they can have complex

drawbacks Traditional employment markets could be disrupted by automation, necessitating reskilling and upskilling in order to keep the workforce relevant The expanding socioeconomic inequities caused by underprivileged people' limited access to technical resources are nevertheless a cause for worry. As problems about data protection and security are raised by the massive volumes of data that have been collected, privacy concerns surface.

As technology develops, moral issues become more important. If not created and trained with care, artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms may unintentionally perpetuate bias. The development of autonomous vehicles must address the moral conundrum of when to put human life before other considerations. Concerns concerning privacy and civil liberties are raised by the usage of biometric data and surveillance technologies.

In the middle of the rapid digital change, maintaining real human ties becomes crucial. The dominance of social media networks and online interactions highlights the necessity to establish a balance between online interaction and deep interpersonal connections. Developing empathy and compassion is still essential in a society where screens frequently serve as a communication intermediary.

Progress is a dynamic field that is continually changing our society and having an unprecedented impact on life. It becomes increasingly important as we negotiate this terrain to be aware of both the opportunities and challenges presented by technology. As technology is developed and integrated, we must put a priority on ethics, inclusivity, and the preservation of connections. We may direct its impact toward a bright future that includes everyone by maximizing its potential.

The Significance of Trade Liberalization in Attracting Foreign Direct Investments to the Philippines

Trade liberalization refers to lowering limitations and barriers to facilitate the free interchange of goods and services This entails abolishing or significantly reducing the level of tariffs that a sector supports, as well as implementing measures of a new tariff nature, such as getting licenses, removing quotas, or imposing other restrictions (Karan R., 2023). Economic growth requires policies allowing trade and investment with other nations, which is evident Without opening up to the world, no country has achieved economic success and raised living standards in recent decades As observed from neighboring countries like Indonesia, China, Singapore, and Hongkong, their living standards are improving because of fast economic growth brought by international trade Foreign investments flow into their economy because they started liberalizing their international trading policies

Looking at Indonesia as an example of the ASEAN countries, despite being a latecomer, Indonesia signed many international, regional, and bilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) in the past 25 years. Indonesia had 19 FTAs in 2018 and 23 regional and bilateral agreements proposed or under negotiation Lowering tariffs,

export taxes and subsidies, NTBs, and trade facilitation measures liberalize trade.

Indonesian tariffs fell from 27% in 1986 to 2.0% in 2020 (Padilla M., 2022). These agreements created trade for manufactured, medium-tech, low-tech, and primary items. It enhanced regional trade. Trade partners extended their economic transactions to seize the opportunity of Indonesia's growing market. Natural and basic product exports spurred export growth and improved competition in Indonesia's traditional industries (textile, footwear, and wood) (Purwono et al., 2022). Indonesia also belongs to the Top 20 FDI destination in 2021 and 2022 (UNCTAD, 2022)

In South Asia, India has also become a top 20 FDI destination in recent years due to its liberalization efforts Before India liberalized FDI policies, consumer goods and consumerism restrictions slowed organized sector expansion The high taxes and strict licensing requirements on imported items discouraged foreign investment in consumer goods, and the need for product variety reduced economies of scale Interstate commodities and stock transportation restrictions also hampered scale development Low consumer income, high taxes, and insufficient government backing limited retail

sector expansion. After the liberalization and economic reforms in 1991, the sector evolved, and the economy grew (Masharu, U , Nasir, M A , 2018) Thus, the consumer goods business proliferated Sony, Samsung, and Kellogg's entered the market when entry barriers were removed (Mukherjee and Patel 2005).

More FDI flows are anticipated in the Philippines because aside from its strengths, such as its high English proficiency and skilled workforce,

A Soul that Heals Poetry

In the midst of uncertainty, questions unveil Unforeseen hurdles appear insurmountable Trials and challenges pass by like a gust of wind A frail, struggling soul suffers like a withered flower.

The lose of a loved one is hard to believe, as time does not bring relief. Pain is unbearable, and sadness lingers for a lifetime

Cherished moments provide both joy and sorrow.

Befuddled in their absence.

Life becomes odd at times like this. Confused thoughts we cannot comprehend The pain in the heart rises every time

The journey to complete healing seems vague

Every day, we struggle through the pain and face unknown fears. But we must stand firm and chase our dreams. The road to life is a challenge we all face. Positive thoughts must be embraced.

With divine direction and hope, along with consolation and uplifting words from compassionate hearts. As a bright light on a gloomy day, a hopeful soul’s anguish has faded. The wound of loss will heal gradually, and peace will blossom eventually.

Happiness prevails anew after all the storms

MAMA

Beyond grateful from the Lord above, I have a wonderful mother beyond compare. So gentle, yet so strong Her care makes me feel I am not alone She makes life worthwhile

There is no love like hers; it is pure and untainted. She's there through ups and downs, ready to pick you back up And shows the way toward the right path

Her patience is endless, so enduring and understanding. She is a master of every task, doing almost anything at home. My constant source of comfort and support.

Her presence is like the sun; it makes everything better Just the sound of her voice makes me happy all over.

I love her beyond words And I am proud to call her “MAMA.”

Bagong Katipunero Poem

A new light shines in the shadow of the past

A brave soul shines in every heart They take a stand with courage and honor. A dedicated band, the new Katipuneros

They gladly walk in the footsteps of heroes. The thread of freedom ignited their souls They embrace the legacy and carry the flame Their great goal is to defend the underprivileged

They advance with unity as their protection. In the face of danger, fearless soldiers. Breaking the bonds that tie the land They courageously demand justice.

In the stillness of the night, They gather in secrecy with a goal in mind They discover their strength amid the struggle They battle for the sake of the motherland.

They march ahead, armed with bolo and bayonet. Their souls are fed to the beat of hope

The fire of liberty flames in their eyes

A passion for justice that lasts forever

The Bagong Katipunero, a formidable force, They remain unshaken in the face of adversity. With visions of a united and liberated nation, They stand united in their opposition to tyranny

As the sun sets over the horizon, Their spirits are ablaze, like shining lights Their names will be inscribed in the annals of history,

The new Katipuneros, hearts entwined.

Let us, therefore, remember their sacrifice. Their legacy will go on in perpetuity Their voices ring in the echoes of time Bagong Katipunero, permanently free
