DARWIN DAY

HOW BIRDS EVOLVE with

DR. DOUGLAS J. FUTUYMA Science Night Live is Hofstra University’s public lecture series that features exciting science research presented by some of the top scientists and lecturers in their fields. Science is important in our everyday lives, and these timely lectures are sure to inspire and challenge us in unexpected ways. Join us for our annual Darwin Day Celebration. Ever since Darwin, birds have been subjects of study by evolutionary biologists. In this talk, Dr. Futuyma draws both on scientific studies and on his own travels and observations to illustrate how evolutionary science explains some of the diversity of birds’ behavior, life history, and distribution. Dr. Futuyma will conclude by asking whether or not birds will adapt to a rapidly changing world. Dr. Douglas J. Futuyma Distinguished Professor Emeritus Department of Ecology and Evolution Stony Brook University
