Creating Student Snap! Accounts

Challenge

FOR TEACHERS: Creating Student Accounts

In order for students to save a Snap! project to the cloud a user must have a login and password and be logged into their Snap! account. Saving to the cloud allows students to access their work from any device. It also permits students to share a link with their teacher which allows the teacher to access student work as well.

District policies vary on how student accounts can be created. In many districts students are not permitted to create their own accounts, and it is the teacher’s responsibility to provide a non-identifiable login and password to each student. This activity will provide instruction for the teacher on how to create bulk Snap! accounts for each student.

Alternatively students can save locally to their computer without having a Snap! account.

This activity will provide the teacher with instruction on how to:

● Upload the .csv file to Snap!

Knowledge and Skill Builders (KSBs)

KSB 1: Request Teacher Access to the Snap! Forum

After creating your own Snap! account send a request to contact@snap.berkeley.edu asking to be granted teacher access to the Snap! Forum for your teacher Snap! account.

Be sure to provide the teacher Snap! login when making the request. Budget time for the request to be processed. It may take a couple of days to get a response.

KSB 2: Create a .CSV File

Generate a .CSV file of non-identifiable logins and passwords for each student.

As an example of how you could create a .csv file:

1. Use Microsoft Excel to create a list of non-identifiable usernames and passwords

2. Save the list, but change the file type to CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)

Or view a tutorial on creating a .CSV file.

Test and Evaluate

Before assigning accounts to students, try to login to Snap! using one or more of the accounts you uploaded prior to distributing account information to students.

You may also manage student accounts in the Snap! forum. The link below will illustrate how this can be done.
