It’s that time again. Time to reevaluate, to renew those unfulfilled promises of last year…and if truth be told, those declarations have been on your resolution lists for many years. Don’t feel bad, you’re not the only one caught in this kaleidoscope of bad habits and failed promises. It’s sad really, each of us needing to change— wanting to change—desperately trying to become a more successful version of ourselves only to realize that, despite our good intentions and great start, we are woefully back where we started at the dawn of yet another New Year. What is our problem?

Many of us think of hypnosis as a form of entertainment. A hypnotist calls a few of your friends up on stage and after getting “very sleepy”, they make asses of themselves. But there are proven cases in which hypnotism has helped when traditional methods have failed. According to local Master Hypnotist Dale “Doc” Dougherty, “hypnosis is a natural state of heightened awareness, often associated with relaxation, where you are able, if you wish, to open yourself to suggestions and where you can make use of your imagination to help you effect positive change in your life.” Certified in general hypnosis, HypnoBirthing, past life/age regression, stage hypnosis, and sports hypnosis, Doc has helped many people with myriad issues ranging from issues of health to improving a golf swing. He has helped expectant mothers deliver with little or no pain; patients overcome eating disorders, as well as helping people with the usual smoking cessation, weight loss issues. Yoga is a medicine, which originated in India, which can benefit the healthy and the sick. Although many Western physicians are not very knowledgeable in this area, a Macon physician has experienced positive outcomes from the discipline and now offers yoga to Middle Georgians. “All of our lives are frantic at times. Yoga teaches us to find that calm place inside,” said Dr. Dannette Kallay, owner of YogaMoga. She states that many conditions can be improved with yoga: anxiety and panic attacks, arthritis, asthma, back pain, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, diabetes, fibromyalgia, heart disease, high blood pressure, insomnia, infertility, irritable bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, obesity…….the list goes on! According to Kallay, there are many different types and styles of yoga. For example, restorative yoga is more suitable for the person that enjoys a slow pace. Holding relaxing postures for several minutes at a time allows deep relaxation and healing to occur. A power yoga practice offers a faster pace, more cardiovascular effects and more toning and strengthening. Some people even enjoy yoga in a heated room which allows the body to release toxins through the breath and the skin via sweating. Kids also benefit from yoga. Through yoga games and stories, even toddlers can begin to learn yogic breathing, stretching and exercise. In addition to the benefits of exercising, yoga can teach kids how to breathe and relax in stressful situations. “My goal as a kid’s yoga instructor is to teach them yoga they can take with them for the rest of their lives. My students often give me examples of how yoga helped them on an exam or in a tense situation with a friend. The kids are especially good at taking their yoga off the mat and into the world.”

While Western medicines are based on a biochemical model, Oriental medicine is based on an energetic model. Energy flows along pathways in the body, each associated with a particular physiological system or internal organ. A deficiency or imbalance of energy causes disease and discomfort. LAST MONTH, GEORGIA SENATE MAJORITY LEADER REPUBLICAN CHIP ROGERS HELD A MEETING IN AUGUSTA, GA TO EXPLAIN “HOW PLEASANT SOUNDING NAMES FOSTERING A SOCIALIST PLAN TO CHANGE THE WAY WE LIVE, EAT, LEARN AND COMMUNITCATE TO ‘SAVE THE EARTH.� The meeting featured a 4 hour briefing/presentation/ collusion about how liberals, namely President Obama, are planning a UN takeover of the United States using ubiquitous Cold-War era mind-control techniques aimed at local government. The presentation was expounded by Field Searcy, a local Tea Party Activist who was forced by the Georgia Tea Party to step down from his position on its Board of Directors in April for damaging “the reputation and good name of the Georgia Tea Party� for using the Party’s resources to pursue his personal agenda. Mr. Searcy, as cited in the Georgia Tea Party’s “Resolution – Field Searcy� document, “Actively promoted issues and beliefs derived from conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.� One such conspiracy theory, Agenda 21, was precisely the topic of the 4 hour meeting in early November. Agenda 21, if you are not familiar, is a non-binding plan of action drafted by the United Nations in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro at the UN Conference on Environment and Development to address “the pressing problems of today and also aim at preparing the world for the challenges of the next century.� The document focuses on environmental, educational, monetary, and social problems on a global scale and provides a template for progressive action that countries can choose to implement in whatever facet they deem appropriate for the area’s specific needs—if at all. In recent years, Agenda 21 has sparked innumerable conspiracies—generally from the political right—ranging from a UN takeover of America (“We’ll never succumb to the socialist mold of Europe!�) to undeniable evidence that Obama is the Anti-Christ to Orwellian Dystopias etc. etc. Notable conservative figures such as Glenn Beck and, as mentioned, Alex Jones have expended countless hours attempting to persuade Americans that we are on the brink of a UN infiltration of our sacred democracy and that it is their (conservatives) duty to stand up and fight against this atrocity. Some of the allegations against Agenda 21 presented by Glenn Beck, Alex Jones and other conspiracy theorists include: 1. A plan for human redistribution, or ‘rewilding,’ which is forcing—at a local level—citizens to move out of the rural countryside and into the ‘cities from whence our ancestors fled,’ (Dick Morris) in order to reestablish vast areas of wilderness to help curb CO2 pollution. 2. It increases fuel efficiency standards and encourages people to utilize public transportation i.e. buses and trains (which is a defamation of human rights!). 3. It focus-

Do you ever get tired of singing it. Yes. Yes I do. I can say unequivocally that I have a love hate relationship with Ms. New Booty. But you can’t turn your back on it can you? Nope, it’s been too profitable. I think that I feel the way I do about that song because people associate me with just that song. There’s been so much more to my career.
The video for the first single, “Ugly,” featured Bubba and pals in the mud with pigs, on tractors. If that’s not the epitome of country, then nothing is. Eleven years and one Ms New Booty later, Bubba is back on the scene with his album Pain Management which will hit stores in Feburary. His new single with Colt Ford, “Country Folks,” is available now on Itunes and he just stopped by the Cox Capitol Theatre on December 7 for a show. We caught up with Bubba in his hometown of LaGrange, Ga. Tell me how you first got into rap music. Obviously you’re a country boy, and those two things don’t always go together. How did your rap career begin? Well, I didn’t really grow up in a musical household. Obviously I grew up in a rural community, and the music my parents listened to was old school country. And I had a brother who was a metal head. Iron Maiden was his favorite band. I have on an Iron Maiden sweatshirt right now. Well, you would love my brother then. He’s got an Iron Maiden tattoo. But when I heard rap music, it just spoke to me. The spirit of it spoke to me. Because really the spirit of, in my opinion, of groups like NWA, the rebellious nature of it. It was Outlaw, kind of like Waylon Jennings and stuff like that. So I just really related to that.. During that time things were changing in rural areas. Various drug epidemics were becoming more prevalent, in country towns. It was just different than

Well I’m sure that people found you because of that one song. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I think my career has covered a lot of bases. I came right out of the gate with a club banger, with Ugly. Then I had a platinum album with Dark Days Bright Nights. Then my second album Deliverance was a critically acclaimed album that was artsy and kind of slept on, then I had my one hit wonder album with Ms. New Booty. I think I stopped after Ms. New Booty, stopped putting out a lot of music. So I think that gave people the opportunity to assess me based just on that song.
it had always been. Violence started popping up. It kind of spoke to me, and some of the things that I was experiencing, in my teenage years really stuck with me. I knew from the second that I heard hip-hop that I wanted to be a part of that, but I also knew that I wanted to paint a picture of rural life. You just collaborated with Colt Ford and Danny Boone who is from Warner Robins on your latest single. Yeah, I’ve been coming down to Warner Robins to record with Danny quite a few times man. I’m pretty good friends with Danny and Demon Jones. It’s funny though, Colt Ford and me have known each other for 20 years. We were in a band together. I met my manager Bobby
Stamps up in Athens and he and Colt were great friends. Colt had a different moniker back then and we did booty shake music in our band, dance music. We split up and I did my thing and he did his thing, but we just reunited creatively and professionally. I was a surprise guest on his last tour. I’d come out and do Ms. New Booty and we had a great time and our new single, “Country Folks”, is a lot of fun and it’s available on itunes right now. I wasn’t going to ask you about “Ms. New Booty” but since you brought it up, damn that’s a fun song. I don’t know anyone who can stop singing it once it’s played. It’s the “Baby Got Back” of the two thousands.
What do you think you would be doing if you weren’t rapping? What I hope I’d be doing is coaching football. I’ve had a lot of jobs. I was an electricians apprentice, I sold tennis shoes at the Foot Locker. But I always thought I’d be a teacher and I wanted to coach football. Who are you listening to right now. Man I listen to everything. I listen to Luke Bryan and Gucci Mane. I like it all. I’m a music guy. Sometimes I like classical music. Whatever I’m in the mood for. Tell us what to expect at you upcoming show. I used to just play with me and a DJ, but the feel of my new album is a lot more musical so I’m rocking with a full band. There are some elements of country, funk, southern rock and dance. It’s real high energy. We’ve been doing a lot of shows and packing them out and having a lot of fun. It’s a lot different being able to play with a full band. It’s adds a whole level of credi-

HUNTER’S DREAM Smoking Gun Quail Plantation
From the very first time I walked through tall pines and knee high love grass hunting bobwhite quail, I was hooked. Watching the dogs freeze up on point, and inch forward to the calls of “Hold, Hold!” from the guide was exciting, and to watch that Boykin flush those quail up into the beautiful blue sky was as pretty a sight as I’d ever seen. Once flushed, hitting a quail proved a more difficult task than just watching how pretty it was. A Hunter has less than two seconds to gauge when and where to shoot. He must make sure that dogs are not in the line of fire first, make sure no humans are in the way (in that order), then hope that the quail is going to fly straight away from him. They usually don’t and if they fly right or left you have to lead the bird by aiming the gun to where they “might” fly. A shot to soon and you have nothing left to eat. Too late and the bird just keeps on flying. It’s about as fun as hunting gets for me and I do it every chance I get. Pretty much gone are the days when you could walk across random fields with a couple of dogs and find wild quail. Urban Development, pesticides and other factors that go along with it have decimated the Wild Quail Population in Georgia. Luckily for hunting enthusiasts, Plantations throughout southeast Georgia have mastered the art of raising semi-wild quail, birds that have been raised in pens, and then released into the wild. Over time, these birds fly almost as fast and as erratic as wild birds, and this will only get better each year. In Mid October, we were lucky enough to experience just how good they can fly down at Smoking Gun Plantation in Ashburn Georgia. Not far off of interstate 75 it took us less than two hours to get to the Plantation from Macon Georgia, but once we turned off the highway the scenery changed. Set on 800 Acres of beautifully thinned Pine and Hardwoods, Smoking Gun’s Lodge was designed and built by its owner E.T. “Buddy” Henry. Buddy has worked in the Civil Engineering field most of his life, and has owned and operated several companies during that time. 35 Years ago a friend of his invited him to a South Georgia Quail Plantation. The rest, he says, is history. Buddy and three of his friends would lease a hunting lodge every year from that point
on, to take clients to and to hunt themselves, and when their last lease ran out in 2006, he decided to open his own quail plantation. He bought these 800 acres in southeastern worth County and set about building a lodge a lake and grooming it for quail. He is always finding something else to improve on, he says. When we arrived that morning, Buddy was waiting outside the front door of his lodge, a two story, shingled cabin that overlooks a beautiful stocked pond and several trap shooting stations. He gave us the nickel tour of the place, showing off its beautiful fireplace, four bedrooms and full kitchen. Buddy designed the place as if he were going to live there, so he spared no expense, and it shows. Great mounts of animals killed around the property adorn the walls, and the full bar waiting for after the hunt did not go unnoticed by our crew. But it was early, and we could hear the Dog wagon rumbling up the driveway and we knew it was time to down our coffee and start hunting. My cohorts Andrew Collier, Bobby Garner and myself, donned our blaze orange caps and vests to stand out against the terrain and walked out to meet our guides for the day. Cal Beanblossom is a quail guide down to the bone; born and raised in Worth County he has been behind bird dogs most of his life. Watching him work those dogs is worth the price of admission on it’s own. Short Hairs Aberdeen and Trish worked perfectly together to the sound of his voice and they were on the first covey within 5 minutes of being out in the field. Once they were on point, Cal sent in a flush dog named Sparky to get the quail to fly out of their covey so we could shoot them. Several excuses later, we had to chase down singles for a while until we finally got warmed up and hit a few. We found close to 10 coveys before lunch and killed about 25 birds, due exclusively to our sub par shooting. It was the first hunt of the year for us, though; at least that’s what we told ourselves. It would be foolish to not describe Cal’s second in command; Hannah Johnson is a 21 year Metropolis old, very beautiful quail guide. She’s probably killed more quail
than all of us ever have put together, and she’s probably forgotten more about hunting than we’ll ever know. Naturally this compounded our embarrassment when we missed a quail, but it sure seemed to make following the dogs for miles a lot easier. When we got back to the lodge for lunch a Southern spread was waiting on us that rivaled anything Mama ever made. We sat down Family style and ate until we couldn’t eat no more. At lunch we learned that our Guide Cal wasn’t just some old redneck-hunting guide. He told s that he’d gone to Southern Miss on a music Scholarship. I was sort of looking for him to pull out a guitar after lunch and sing us some Conway Twitty or something but when I asked what he played he told me he played the French horn. I tried not to look surprised when he told us about one of the best moments of his life, going to see Dale Clevenger, the greatest French Horne player in the world, at the Chicago symphony. Cal is the kind of dude that can pull it off though, and it only made us respect him more that he could talk about the symphony just as easily as he could talk about hunting. After putting in a little couch time, and talking with Buddy about some of his worldly exploits, we went back out hunting for a couple hours. We needed to hit the road by three to get back to Macon, but we saw plenty more quail and actually shot decent, bringing in about 35 more quail by days end. Bobby even hit a double, and even though it was Andrew’s first quail hunt, he probably shot better than any of us. All in all it was a pretty Perfect day. By the time we were ready to leave, they’d had the birds cleaned and vacuum-sealed ready for us to take them home. We said our goodbyes and hit the road, thankful that we had the opportunity to spend time with such great people on such a beautiful piece of property. Hailing from Warner Robins and Macon, the band was formed by singer Tim Burris, guitarists Elliot Gindis and Dennon McMillan and drummer Pip Park. n the months before their deaths, relatives say Mildred and Jewel Cleveland had struggled living in the same house with Mildred's grown son, Jason Howard. Jobless and socially withdrawn, Howard was a disturbed man who had been committed to a mental institution for schizophrenia following his arrest for robbing a bank. Although his mother thought that Howard could be rehabilitated and insisted that he live with them, relatives say her husband, Jewel, wasn't so sure. Police think that after killing and burying the Clevelands, Jason Howard continued to live in the house. He paid bills, cared for the family pets, and even took a trip to the family's vacation home. With the aid of cadaver dogs, Liberty County police found JASON HOWARD Arrested 4/13/2009 the bodies of Jewel and Mildred Cleveland wrapped in tarps and buried in a 4 Cts Felony Murder barn on June 15, 2004. An autopsy later confirmed that both had been shot in the head and that Mildred had been beaten first. In his own words from a November 1994 note, Howard explained: “Let it be known that I, Jason M. Howard, can be extremely paranoid, therefore as a fugitive I will not only be carrying firearms but explosives as well...I'm not dangerous until I am crossed or cornered, so stay away. Keep away and don't blame me for a dead tactical team.” For the next several years, Howard would live in the woods in Macon, in a camp he constructed out of camouflage tarps and tents and everything else he could find. He was featured on America’s Most Wanted during those years, though he would elude arrest until 2009, when Macon Police found him breaking into a rental car. Some months later, a friend of the 11th Hour, and a cross country runner, came across Howard’s camp in the woods. In it three journals were found. What follows is a page of one of these journals, the first in a series of pages that look inside the head of a suspected killer.
