Philanthropic Opportunity A Bold New Ride for Patients and Visitors

Newport Beach Shuttle Service | $75,000

Navigating health care can be stressful. At Hoag, our goal is to alleviate this stress as much as possible by providing patients with the resources and tools they need to feel well taken care of every step of the way. This begins the moment they arrive on one of our campuses, where comprehensive care across specialties is made more accessible to residents of Orange County and beyond.

After parking their car or being dropped off, visitors are sometimes unsure where to find their physician’s office or a loved one’s room. Hospital visits can also require multiple stops for scheduled surgeries, lab work, imaging, or even a bite to eat. To enhance the experience of moving between buildings on the upper and lower campus at Hoag Newport Beach, a complimentary shuttle service, funded by philanthropy, would provide patients and visitors with convenient and stress-free transportation to and from their desired locations, including all hospital towers and parking structures. Additionally, the shuttle would be used for donor visits, tours of the campus, and more to inspire others to give back to Hoag and the community.

On Hoag’s expanded Sun Family Campus in Irvine, where construction is currently underway, a shuttle service is already being utilized and has been welcomed by the community. Thanks to support for the Boldly Hoag campaign, the Irvine shuttle is providing transportation from the main entrance of the hospital to the Benjamin & Carmela Du Emergency Pavilion, the new parking structures, and Hoag Health Center – Sand Canyon for easy access to urgent care and specialty services, including pre-operative testing, imaging, breast care, endoscopy, infusion, radiology, and more. Based on the success of this shuttle, hospital leadership is eager to extend the same service to guests at Hoag’s Newport Beach campus.

A gift to fund the Newport Beach courtesy shuttle would cover purchase of the vehicle, yearly maintenance and insurance for up to five years, and a custom finish with naming recognition and Boldly Hoag branding to inspire other donors and bring awareness to Hoag’s vision for the future of health care in Orange County.

The shuttle helps me get people where they need to be,” said Alice Johnson, a supervisor of Hoag’s Care Coordination Program, another philanthropically funded initiative. “Construction can cause some confusion, but I see the relief on patients’ faces when I schedule this service for them and offer to call their physician’s office to let them know they’re on their way. And they can get dropped off at their car afterward. It’s a seamless process.”
