Editor’s Letter First, can I just say, that I love this country. No matter where your loyalties fall on the political spectrum, please stand proud to live where we have freedom and opportunities.

Even though this last year was concerning and stressful and we still face challenges that lie ahead. One thing is certain- you need to take care of yourself and your loved ones, get your health in order.

Comfort can be binding, and it can also be beautiful. I found comfort in the little things this past year as most of our liberties were taken away. Comfort to me – is the goodness of people, green juice, roadside farm stands, good music and happy dances, hard work and hard covered books, a walk on the beach, sunsets and sunrises, bike rides, small towns and main street America, meaningful talks, love, intuition, side splitting laughter, Sunday suppers and the power of prayer.

Now is the time to invest in yourself. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. We wish you extraordinary times ahead- full of new discoveries and moments, health, and well-being. We are initiating many new programs here at HHI. Something to benefit everyone. Put in the work, stay the course and do you now more than ever. I am picking a word for the year to live by through and through. I have looked in, looked up and looked out and that word is focused.

Healing is not a process as much as it is an acceptance of well-being. If questioning any part of our lives we tend to hold back and not put forth full submission to thrive. Cutting off your own support for you renders your persona weak. That is a perfect recipe for negativity to attack. Most think that this is a horrible event and blame some mystical force for its creation.

On the contrary, it is God and the Universe forcing you to focus on what you have ignored. If you heed the wake-up call, in every case you have the ability to put forth complete affirmative intention and heal. We have worked with hundreds of thousands of guests and learned that there is an effective formula to bring about homeostasis. Recently, I spoke to one of our former guests about her recovery. Most would say it is remarkable since she banished advanced cancer in several areas of her body. We all giggled when she spoke about her physician’s face in the appointment where he discovered she was free of this disease. Less than two years before, he had “kindly” given her two months to live. This jovial

woman reminded him of this and with a blank stare he said “the diagnosis must have been wrong,” she then said “Thank God I didn’t believe you or I would have gone home, rolled up into a ball and died like most of your other patients probably have.” He then responded, “We do the best we can” and the alumni snapped back, “I’m sure you do, but as you see, it’s not good enough.”

You are capable of greatness once you realize that you are great. Searching for guidance, wisdom and knowledge from others is naturally good. Once you have acquired the thoughts from professionals, it is then up to you to choose what resonates with your heart and makes sense to yout mind. THE ROAD TO RECOVERY IN A NUTSHELL: STEP ONE: Stop doing things that are bad for you. Yes, just stop it. Say no to things you know aren’t good. After all, who’s the boss here? Isn’t it you who determines what you put in your mouth? And whether or not you exercise? Or whether you love freely or not?

STEP TWO: Start doing the things that are good for you. Yes, just say yes to things you know are good. Why is it so hard to do things that benefit us? I think it comes down to a lack of self-love. We would never knowingly poison our child, because we love them, yet we knowingly do poison ourselves.

1. RECOVERY EMERGES FROM HOPE.

The belief that recovery is real provides the essential and motivating message of a better future—that people can and do overcome the internal and external challenges, barriers and obstacles that confront them. Hope is internalized and can be fostered by peers, families, providers, allies, and others. Hope is the catalyst of recovery.

It comes down to personal choice and implementation, and an empowered state of mind.

he “great time out” of the 2020s has percolated new visions of what we can be as human beings. It has sparked exceptionally vibrant dreams while keeping us close to evidence-based decisions. In 2021, a new buoyancy of optimism is emerging where solid opportunities and actions begin weaving together a new patch-quilt for our lives. Too often, we tend to hijack the machinery of our intentions cloaking them in a metrics of daily pressures and demands that do not always make sense. We still remain bold and optimistic while searching for answers. We “flip the switch” at the beginning of this new year to counter any leftover “razor-thin” protective margins that don’t support rebuilding a strong world for Moms and Dads, children and those driving social justice. Picking up the pieces, we accentuate pathways from those interested in Healthy Kids, Education of Young Children, Children’s Defense Fund, GiGi’s Wellness Cafe and Real Truth About Health to Black Lives Matter, George Floyd, and demonstrations that foster change.

There is cautionary tracking and rethinking how much is used to gain entry to the cells and

RAINBOW CABBAGE SALAD INGREDIENTS:

VEGGIE NOODLES INGREDIENTS: 1-2 zucchini DIRECTIONS: Place the zucchini in the turning slicer with the desired blade and spiral it into either thicker or thinner sized noodles. Toss the noodles lightly with olive oil and Italian seasoning to soften in a mesh colander.

Allow to rest for 30 minutes.

6-7 cups of roughly chopped red/purple cabbage (using the slicing blade of the food processor makes this step super fast!)

1 carrot, shaved with a peeler into 2-3 inch strips or run through the food processor with the grating or slicing blade for speed

3 celery stalks, finely chopped

1 red pepper, thinly sliced

2 handfuls of fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped finely

Tahini-Lemon Dressing

3-4 tbsp of sesame seeds, hemp or sunflower seeds

DIRECTIONS: In a large bowl, mix the chopped celery, pepper, cabbage, shaved carrot, and parsley or herb of choice.

Prepare the dressing by whisking all ingredients together in a medium sized bowl. Mix before serving if possible, and mix

1 cup Millet, soaked overnight at room temperature

1-2 parsnips, chopped

2 stalks celery, chopped

1 onion, chopped

DIRECTIONS: Place all ingredients in a heavy bottomed saucepan with a firmly fitting lid. Add ingredients to the saucepan and place over medium heat. Cook gently until the millet is tender, approximately 45-minutes. Serve garnished with olive oil and Braggs.

LEMON-TAHINI DRESSING: INGREDIENTS:

1 large garlic clove

1/2 cup fresh lemon juice

1/4 cup tahini

3 to 4 tablespoons olive oil

Herbal salt, to taste

DIRECTIONS: Blend all ingredients in a food processor, pulsing until well combined.

HELENE’S HEMP TABOULI INGREDIENTS:

1 large bunch fresh parsley

1/2 cup fresh mint leaves

5 scallions

1 clove garlic

2-3 red peppers

1 cup shelled hemp seeds

1 cucumber, skinned and seeded, finely chopped

2 tablespoons olive or hemp seed oil

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

Dash of cayenne

1 lb. sunflower seed sprouts

DIRECTIONS: In a food processor fitted with the “S” blade, process the parsley, mint, scallions and garlic until chopped well. Add the red pepper and pause a few times until chopped. Transfer the herbs and red pepper to a large mixing bowl. Add the hemp seeds, cucumber, hemp or olive oil, cayenne, and lemon juice. Mix well, and serve or allow to marinade for 30 minutes up to overnight. Store in an airtight container in the fridge, the tabouli will keep for 2 days. Serve over a generous portion of sunflower seed sprouts.

It is alarming to think about, but the air we breathe becomes more of a health issue every day. Scientific evidence links indoor air pollution to conditions you may expect such as allergies, chemical sensitivities, fatigue, asthma, and other respiratory conditions. We pony up for sleep-tracking, Oura rings, the latest, smartest mattresses, and meditative sleep headbands; crawl into nap pods; and travel far to bed down at sleep retreats. We gobble sleep tonics, CBD and even “sleep ice cream.” We’ve been hit by a storm of generic sleep products, driving a $432 billion “sleep economy,”* and we’re still not sleeping.

Why? Because most sleep solutions, and our modern lives, defy the basic facts of circadian biology. Circadian medicine is moving fast.

FEAR OF GETTING TO TIGHT SPACES – NOT AN UNUSUAL FEAR!

laustrophobia is an anxiety disorder that produces intense fear of enclosed spaces or crowded places. People with this problem could be easily intimidated by tight spaces like revolving doors, car washes, tunnels, MRI machines, oxygen chambers, tiny bathrooms, airplanes, subway trains, and crowded places like crowded elevators, congested highways, and even cars with automatic door locks.

Doctors or therapists diagnose claustrophobia as a disorder only when it affects one’s normal life. This anxiety can be expressed as nervousness or even as full-blown panic attacks. When it causes real panic, the person may show any of the following symptoms: sweating, trembling, hot flashes, shortness of breath, hyperventilation, rapid heartbeat, chest tightness or pain, nausea, feeling faint or lightheaded, feeling confused or disoriented.

Many who suffer from this disorder may avoid situations where they may have to deal with tight spaces.
