Bring YOUR “A” Game Everyone in the Music Industry has experienced the ‘not so honest’ people and companies, I’m sure. If you haven’t, YOU WILL. You should be leery of people interested only in their OWN gain. You should always ask questions, check track records and believe the signs. Any of these sound familiar? (1) NOT interested in signing agreements or contracts (2) Artist Conferences where you leave with what you came with (3) Those that never have $$ to contribute to their own success (4) Give allot of excuses and NEVER allot of results (5) Where are the receipts? (6) The “We Can’t” Kings and Queens (7) PARTNER that never does their part in a project (8) Always on ‘the Grind’ but never ‘the Growing’ from the Grind It’s important to grow your career/business on the seed of honesty, consistency of character and ethical morals. Do right by people! Your actions absolutely speak volumes about you; without you ever saying a word. Others can be the “B” but you be the “A”, in the game. Send comments to: myramorris@

DeMarcus Jones Book teaches kids a necessary history lesson Dropout rates for Blacks more than double that of Whites according to the most recent statistics from the National Center for Education Statistics. There is no secret to the failure of Black students in the American school system and the reason behind this failure seems to point to lack of relativity. Children are having a hard time learning something that they cannot relate too. Demarcus Jones and the Solar Calendar is a book that attempts to counter the lack of relativity in the educational system to Black students. The small chapter book written in a format for children ages 9-12 and takes the reader on an educational journey to learn black history prior to slavery. Currently in the educational system children are taught that black history began with slavery and in some schools are even taught that Africans sold themselves into slavery. Demarcus Jones and the Solar Calendar teaches children about many strong Black leaders, events and cultures prior and after that of slavery. Children have been quoted saying that they didn’t enjoy reading until they read this book and adults have been quoted as saying they have learned things that they didn’t even know before reading it. Singer songwriter Kyra Noons aka Neutral Sister was Born in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya Africa, to an English father and Jamaican mother. For the first years of her life she was embraced and nurtured by the African culture staying close to her mother while her father worked on Safari In 1979 the family moved to London and spent the next seven years there before moving to Jamaica. The musical influences at the time came from a wide spectrum of sources. The likes of Marvin Gaye, Madonna, Pink Floyd, Donna Summer, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Super Tramp, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Jacob Miller, as well as the musical and theatrical aspect that filled her environment due to her fathers involvement in the rock musical "Hair" and the music business. By the time Kyra reached Jamaica in 1986 she was listening to the sounds of Dennis Brown, Bon Jovi, Bounty Killa, Paul Simon, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Shabba Ranks, JC Lodge, Half Pint, Freddie McGregor and other reggae artists. The dancehall played quite an influence, which shows through the mix of lyrical delivery and subject matter. Neutral Sister’s voice training came out of being a part of choirs in England, Jamaica and America as well as personal vocal coaching. In 1998 Kyra joined with her sister Bianca and together they became the group Neutral Sisters. The two began writing songs together and soon after their song Live-N-Direct was entered in the Billboard Songwriters competition which won them first place in the Pop category. during their eight years together as a group Kyra and Bianca/ Neutral Sisters were known to be a Reggae Pop Fusion, a new wave. The duo graced many stages in their development. Opened for Luciano at Tropical Insanity Spring break in Jamaica, Opened for Bone Thugs and Harmony in Montego Bay Jamaica, performed on Sumfest in Jamaica hitting the stage right before Sean Paul performed at Rebel Salute in St. Elizabeth Jamaica, in front of an audience of over 20,000 people before Junior Gong/Damien Marley exploded onto the stage, attributing their performance to the late Pele Lanier, who was both their Manager and beloved friend. Performed at the first ever Miami Sumfest, where the sisters brought the only roots reggae involved in the lineup of Sean Paul, Wyclife, Lady Saw, Wayne Wonder, Beenie Man, Fat Joe, Lil’ Kim and others. Performed at Fitzgeralds, one of the longest most respected live venues in Houston which led to being a featured cover storyin the Houston PressOpened for Acon at the International Arts Festival in New Orleans. In Houston they opened for Beres and Buju, Maxi Priest, Burning Spear, Sean Paul,Third World and The Wailers. It was also an honor for them to perform at the opening of the Toyota Center home of the Rockets in Houston Tx. Performed at the Super Bowl Main Event downtown Houston Tx the year the Super Bowl came to town. Toured in Texas with the Bob Marley festival.

Performed on the International festival in Houston for three consecutive years in a row. Performed at the first Marcus Garvey Tribute concert in Houston, Texas. Performed at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in California. Performed one year at the South By South West music fest in Austin. Neutral Sisters album "Alive~N~Direct" is a unique collection of original songs written by Kyra and Bianca blessed by the ever dynamic duo Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare and the legendary Ernie Ranglin as well as key board king Robbie Lynn and Beezy on guitar. The girls producer John "Pops" Dowling wore many hats to take this album from dream to reality as musician, producer and engineer working out of the UB40 Studio in Oracabessa in Jamaica, Robbies studio in Kingston and Yard Sound Studio in Houston Texas, much thanks and respect due to all involved. Sadly two days before the duo were set to start their East African tour Bianca who had type one diabetes went into a coma. Bianca held on for a year before passing touching the hearts of so many people with her strength of character that shines on and will continue shining through her strong lyrics and vocals. Deep thanks and gratitude to all who gave support to the family through this time. Kyra went on to write the song "Hold On" featuring "Mr. Blacc Sheep" which was originally written to Bianca the year that she was in a coma to give strength and love. After Bianca passed A remix of Hold on was done "Hold On Haiti" dedicating the song to Haiti after the great devastation the country suffered donating all revenue made off of the downloads to relief efforts working with the nonprofit organization Caribbean Impact. Kyra debuted as Neutral Sister by kicking off the opening of the International Festival in Houston Texas with a performance in front of the mayor and dignitaries from the featured area of the world which was the Caribbean. Kyra went on to Headline the Center Stage of the festival that weekend. Neutral Sister continues to blaze up the stage and is currently working on a new album that will have the same core of character with fresh twists and combinations. It will also contain songs that feature Bianca that had not been released. By doing so it will make potential Lenders see you as creditworthy. How Do DJs Connect Your Music to the Streets? March 11, 2011 Special Guest: The Chris Morale Experience /Mofo Hari Lady C Confusious Mo Williams Chris Pringle King Sway Dr DEE Record Pools, Mixshows, Dj Battles and paying Dj's to host mixtapes are just a few trends to breaking of a music artist into the market place. These techniques & practices commonly used among Dj's as a promotional tools, for generating hype around the new artist. Record pools can easly leak a record into their network instantly turn a single into a certified street banger. Paying a popular Dj to host your mix-tape can spread the word rapidly among his already existing audience. Nevertheless, you shouldn't underestimate a Dj of a lesser popular status, because if he is passionate about your project, and about you as an artist he will break down barriers to make your project a success. Getting your music in the hands of the right Dj could very well be the launching pad to your success as an artist. Mixtapes is a crucial part of the formula. The sale of Mixtapes download have increased, merely due to popularity of it's ability to create awareness of a new act. It is a science, in the since of using familiar beats to demonstrate the vocal skills and delivery techniques of a new artist. New artist often acquire the fans of the predecessor merely by the art of association of a hit tune. Mixshows and DJ Battles are platforms that Dj often slip a new act into the crack. They are often ego driven and love to prove they have something always fresh, always new and innovative. So bulding a rapport and getting the endorsement of a Dj's is definitely a plus, because it will help you the artist gain immediate recognition and creditability among his existing fan-base. Why Mobile Dj's, Non-reporting Dj's, Club Dj's & Online Radio Dj's So Important? March 9, 2011 Special Guest: DJ Seizure President Of All The All Star DJ's Coast To Coast Slip N Slide Future Guru Dj Dee Rock Coach Ali Mobile dj's, club dj's, online radio dj's &non-reporting Dj's, all have these attributes in common. Having total control over what is played, discovering new talent and the ability to break new music. They have a major influence on what we hear on mainstream radio simply because they are aware of what set the mood the crowd. Disc jockeys pride themselves on always having their ear to the street. The advantage that the Non Commercial DJ's has over Traditional Am/ Fm Radio Disc jockeys is their flexibility to play music as they see fit. This can translate into the crowd taking action, making request and dedication. Which could then translate to a buzz, to popularity, to eventually a hit song, to becoming a best seller. For these reason building a rapport with non commercial dj's is as imperative, if not, as equally important to your promotions and marketing as Traditional Am-Fm Radio jocks. DJs hold the key to the gatekeepers.

Most of the musicians in today's music industry were taught by others who lived when talent and blood, sweat and tears were all you needed to survive. You practiced hard enough and learned your scales fast enough, and someone magically came by your practice room with a check to whisk you off to a land of milk and honey. Those days are gone and have been for some time. I hear a lot of musicians say things like, "The pools of money for music have dried up." They remember a time only 5 or 10 years ago when the average musician could survive off of 3 gigs a week, a few students and a couple of sessions. But gigs now pay 50 percent less, and major recording studios are shutting down left and right. That old way of making a living is basically impossible now. The pools of money for music haven't dried up, they're just smaller. And instead of a few large pools, there are now many more smaller ones. Where are these pools of money? They're everywhere! But the money is not only in playing gigs and studio sessions. It's in doing gigs as well as satellite sessions where you record yourself and send the files to a client on the other side of the World to make $$$. It's in making CDs in your home to compete with major-label CDs that once cost 1,000 percent more to produce and manufacture. It's in designing and building your own website to sell products automatically so you can get to your gig on time. And it's in a full-time commitment to blogging, sending mass emails and updating Facebook and Twitter to drive traffic to your site to boost CD and T-shirt sales. I know it seems like a horrible time for musicians, but it's a hopeful sign that many young people still want careers in music. We can learn a lot by looking at the way they approach it. They are not just musicians. They are music producers, vocals producers, composers and film scorers. They are also bloggers, internet marketing geniuses and graphic designers. They develop all these skills because they're enjoyable for them just as performing music is fulfilling. They're adapting their skills to the world they see around them. If we pay attention to them, we can learn how the environment in the music industry is changing and how to change with it. The musicians who are teaching this new generation are often under the impression that the techniques they used to build a career in music still apply. But to survive in today's economy, musicians must have many skills not related to performing. They must be great musicians, and they also must be audio engineers, producers, sales representatives and website designers. They must be fluent in the language of music as well as of computers, marketing and social networks. We live in a time when musicians can empower themelves to make their career dreams come true. We have an opportunity to be the first generation to hold on to more money that we generate from our skills than we sign over to a corporate entity or agent. We can make music without selling our souls. What a beautiful day to be a musician!

Norris was led to Lord at an early age in the Church of God in Christ. As a teenager in the church, he loved the Lord, but knew that "hip-hop [was] the language of the streets". He wanted to reach his peers by engaging them through music they could relate to. He started writing in order to minister the word through music in 1999, which opened doors for him to travel the country as a member of the hit group, 'XFactor'. The duo released a self titled album in 2004. Norris received rave reviews for his writing which definitely ministered to all those who heard their music. His style is very relevant to pop culture, but the main focus is on praising God. His music includes high-energy praise tunes that make you want to get up and dance, to mid-tempo songs that can transition you into worship. Although his music is geared toward our youth, it touches the lives of anyone in need of encouragement through a positive message. His passion is to be a voice for a young generation, that would meet them where they are and introduce them to Christ through Hip-Hop music.

Extra-ordinary charm, clever word play and crafty metaphors have brought this gift talent to the forefront of the music scene. With multi-talented song writers and producers, including her own material. Kayo’s songs speak the language of today's youth without dumbing down to the typical stereotypes. Interestingly enough, Kayo has already developed a new market on capitalizing her craft. Kayo has been able to perform in many large venues unlike a lot of our current, young performers whose musical content hinders them from gaining exposure due to their sometimes negative messages and explicit lyrical content. Kayo is by far on a path to success with showing a promising future in becoming one of the majors of her craft. Singer, songwriter guitarist Jevette received special recognition for her talents when Will Wynn, mayor of Austin, TX, proclaimed March 25, 2004 as Jevette Day. The words sultry, cool, and eccentric have been among the favorable words used to describe the Dallas-born performer. Born in Marks, Mississippi. Raised in Lambert Mississippi. Stephen Pride grew up learning at an early age— Nothing is given to you. Earn your keep, be humble and be thankful for the things he received. Stephen first realized he had some gifts at the age of six. Eventually, at the age of nineteen, Stephen’s instrument of choice became the guitar. This was after a friend let him sing in his band. He grew to enjoy singing and realized his most Stephen moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico and joined a couple of musicians. He actually became a member of a country band. A Word From the pastor’s Desk Elder Jason Hamilton (Founder/Senior Pastor) Greetings People of God, I pray now as I begin to share this one of many moments spent at my desk in prayer, study, and meditation in the presence of God, I seek to share that which God has allowed me to glean in the garden, as I seek Him and deeper insight into His word. I pray the Lord add a tremendous blessing to the reader and doer of His word. In the name of Jesus. Amen and Amen.

Worship – The Emotional Component

proper emotional component is not contrived and forced or coerced. It is the result of one’s informed relationship with God. One should not perform some emotional display, because it is perceived or expected by others. One should not imitate the emotional display of another. The faithful one’s emotional response (seen or unseen by men) is the result of one’s informed relationship with God.

When the Word is faithfully preached, there should be a range of emotions in “God is Spirit, and those who worship the hearts of faithful listeners (remorse, assurance, joy, the satisfaction of Him must worship in spirit and knowledge gained). In partaking of the truth,” (John 4:24). Every element of Lord’s Supper, remembering His death, true worship involves some emotional the emotions of both sorrow and component. Think It! See It! Visualize It!

There have been many inquires since I began sharing what I know about abundance. At this writing I will talk about the principles that manifest abundance, which I define as “a more-than-plentiful quantity of GOD.” The great teachers that you recognize from the Holy Bible understand the principles that were set forth before their time: to be, have and do the miraculous, you must tap into the principles of the Universe. Those principles are still as vibrant today as they were centuries before our time. There are many illustrations, but for impact I will use the Gospel of Matthew (my favorite book) 14:13-18. Read this iconic parable with a new, fresh outlook. Now that you have read this story from your childhood, now look through your adult eyes. This parable is about ‘using what you have.’ What do you already have to solve a challenge in your life? During my recent conversation with GOD, I expressed my usual requests for more success, more staff, more this and more that. But in my heart GOD spoke and told me, “You already have everything that you need.” After spending time analyzing, then explaining to GOD that I did not see the answer that he had given me, I just stopped. Over the next few weeks I allowed these words to ferment in me. I know that we must have space to accommodate what we want to come into our life. The first thing I did was to clear the immediate clutter from my life. I called the Salvation Army and freed up space. Immediately after this action, a longtime friend came into my life and said she wanted to work with me in Beebe Omnimedia. Immediately I knew she came for a reason and would not be in my space that long, so I responded to what she was offering right away. That freed me to have time to take five-minute visualizations every day so that I could think, see, and expect the success that I desire. This illustration is to let you know that you must have space for what you want, remove any and all obstacles and expect to receive an answer. This month, rather than thinking you need more time, money, space, love or stuff, read Matthew 14:13-18 and use a proven formula to –Think It! See It! Visualize It! Expect It! Diabetes Symptoms Symptoms of type 1 diabetes are often dramatic and come on very suddenly. Type 1 diabetes is usually recognized in childhood or early adolescence, often in association with an illness (such as a virus or urinary tract infection) or injury. The extra stress can cause diabetic ketoacidosis.

Symptoms of ketoacidosis include nausea and vomiting. Dehydration and often-serious disturbances in blood levels of potassium follow.

Without treatment, ketoacidosis can lead to coma and death.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes are often subtle and may be attributed to aging or obesity.

A person may have type 2 diabetes for many years without knowing it.

People with type 2 diabetes can develop hyperglycemic hyperosmolar nonketotic syndrome.

Type 2 diabetes can be precipitated by steroids and stress.

If not properly treated, type 2 diabetes can lead to complications like blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, and nerve damage. Common symptoms of both major types of diabetes: Fatigue: In diabetes, the body is inefficient and sometimes unable to use glucose for fuel. The body switches over to metabolizing fat, partially or completely, as a fuel source. This process requires the body to use more energy. The end result is feeling fatigued or constantly tired. • Unexplained weight loss: People with diabetes are unable to process many of the calories in the foods they eat. Thus, they may lose weight even though they eat an apparently appropriate or even excessive amount of food. Losing sugar and water in the urine and the accompanying dehydration also contributes to weight loss.

• Excessive thirst (polydipsia): A person with diabetes develops high blood sugar levels, which overwhelms the kidney's ability to reabsorb the sugar as the blood is filtered to make urine. Excessive urine is made as the kidney spills the excess sugar. The body tries to counteract this by sending a signal to the brain to dilute the blood, which translates into thirst. The body encourages more water consumption to dilute the high blood sugar back to normal levels and to compensate for the water lost by excessive urination. • Excessive urination (polyuria): Another way the body tries to get rid of the extra sugar in the blood is to excrete it in the urine. This can also lead to dehydration because excreting the sugar carries a large amount of water out of the body along with it. • Excessive eating (polyphagia): If the body is able, it will secrete more insulin in order to try to deal with the excessive blood sugar levels. Moreover, the body is resistant to the action of insulin in type 2 diabetes. One of the functions of insulin is to stimulate hunger. Therefore, higher insulin levels lead to increased hunger and eating. Despite increased caloric intake, the person may gain very little weight and may even lose weight. •

Poor wound healing: High blood sugar levels prevent white blood cells, which are important in defending the body against bacteria and also in cleaning up dead tissue and cells, from functioning normally. When these cells do not function properly, wounds take much longer to heal and become infected more frequently. Also, long-standing diabetes is associated with thickening of blood vessels, which prevents good circulation including the delivery of enough oxygen and other nutrients to body tissues.

• Infections: Certain infection syndromes, such as frequent yeast infections of the genitals, skin infections, and frequent urinary tract infections, may result from suppression of the immune system by diabetes and by the presence of glucose in the tissues, which allows bacteria to grow well. They can also be an indicator of poor blood sugar control in a person known to have diabetes. • Altered mental status: Agitation, unexplained irritability, inattention, extreme lethargy, or confusion can all be signs of very high blood sugar, ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar hyperglycemia nonketotic syndrome, or hypoglycemia (low sugar). Thus, any of these merit the immediate attention of a medical professional. Call your health care provider or 911. •

Blurry vision: Blurry vision is not specific for diabetes but is frequently present with high blood sugar levels

Seek medical attention if any of these symtoms persist. You only get one body. Take Care of It!

The good news is that there are many resources available for abused and battered women, including hotlines you can call for advice; shelters where you can stay; even job training, legal services, and childcare. You deserve to live free of fear. You can make that happen by taking steps to protect yourself and reaching out for help. Don’t wait! Contact: ROBT-T

Tragedy——She came home after a long days

“Y’all Think

I Can’t Talk”

It is indeed a truth that an “8” can’t speak But we communicate all the day long So open your ears but more so your mind And I’ll prove the theories wrong

work "He" smacks her and knocks her down saying You're more trouble than your worth, She cries and is torn inside thinking I have to do this for my kids I have to keep our happy home together I gave a promise now and forever, The blood trickles down her face Children crying, "he's" yelling, when it comes to her "No weapon formed against me will prosper, "Her 3 year old girl runs to her and says Mommy I'll protect you I'll never let "him" hurt you again Finally she rises as she opens her eyes and says, "Amen”. "She wipes the blood away from her lips Picks up her girl and bravely and walks to the door "He" moves to strike her again as she closes her eyes and says "Peace be still "There’s a loud BANG as "he" falls to the floor Her 6 year old son with the gun "he" left on the table says Mommy "he" won't hurt you no more… By Charles Jones

I’ve patiently waited for the PERFECT moment To invite you into my world Thought this secret would go to my grave But couldn’t because of the love from my “Special Girl”

PREPARATION

Who is she you ask? Enough of this secrecy She’s my EVERYTHING The “angel” assigned to me

Pray, fast, reverence Praise, cry, be healed and be delivered We are the books that those without God read Whether the pages are dark or fair How then do we become the man or woman God wants us to be? PATIENCE - in IT possess ye your soul Who have you become over the years? It take TWO days to form a habit And SEVEN days to break it… You do the math. With God it doesn’t have to make sense to human logic. As high as the heaven is from the earth, So are His ways and thoughts from ours. When it’s said you can be helped - Call on God When you know you’re not who you use to be - Lean on Him When you just don’t understand - Look to Him When you think you’ve just had enough of everything-Hope in Him Preparation is Greater than the Journey

Enough about me- I’m fine and HEAVENBOUND I eat, laugh, play, and stay in my cozy world Stay clean, protected, and definitely loved You guessed it – All because of my “Special Girl”

She’s a wife, mother, sister, Nurse, friend, and my caregiver Before her, my life was a mere creek But now flows like THE NILE river

She’s responsible for my NEW life At the age of forty-three Having a desire to reveal my secret That I’m not enslaved at all- I’M FREE! So hats off to Laverne, her family, staff And all who help steady my walk You are appreciated more than you’ll ever know And by now you know that an “8” CAN TALK I LOVE YOU Anonymous Writer

Are you still being Prepared? Of Course… The Journey for YOU hasn’t yet Begun.

It’s been quite a journey especially since the age of twelve When I began my trip around the world Never complained one minute of the ride Final destination-the HOME of my “Special Girl”
