Smart Hybrid Light Cameras with ColorVu

Smart Hybrid Light Cameras with ColorVu are the newly released cameras that equipped with some powerful technologies. The first is ColorVu technology, which can realize 24/7 colorful imaging and provide rich color information. The second is Smart Hybrid Light technology Combined with Motion Detection 2.0 or AcuSense technology, the camera can flexibly switch between 3 modes — IR mode, white light mode and smart mode to provide more choices for users. In addition, the camera can be used in a variety of scenes, the users who use IR light before, now can enjoy excellent low light effect, because most of the time the camera without any supplemental light can render colorful images. In short, whether the demand is 24/7 colorful imaging, or excellent low-light performance, or colorful human/vehicle targets at night, this cameras can be satisfied.

BACKGROUND

Even in the ultra-low light environment, the cameras with ColorVu can still bring us excellent image experience, when working with intelligent DVR, we can get color human/vehicle targets through video search and playback. In addition to the traditional application scenes of ColorVu, there are some other scenes that also apply to ColorVu technology, but maybe some concerns:

1.Indoor scenes: unwilling to turn on lights indoors for a long time

2.The scenes that people worried about light pollution: camera with ColorVu will light on for a long time at night that may interfere the neighbors

3.The scenes that people worried about exposure of monitoring: camera with ColorVu will light on at night, it is easy to expose the camera’s position. Turbo HD Lamp Camera 18D0T-LFS

Turbo HD Lamp Camera is designed for dual use. The left is the white light, and the right is the camera, it can be worked as security and lighting at the same time. The camera supports Smart Hybrid Light technology when worked with DVRs with Motion Detection 2.0 or DVRs with AcuSense, the camera can flexibly switch between 3 modes — IR mode, white light mode and smart mode to provide more choices for users.

With high brightness and strong directivity, the product is mainly used in application scenarios with strong demand for supplemental light:

1.Perimeter scenes, such as villas/residential areas etc., the camera can provide strong light warnings, and provide colorful key information;

BACKGROUND

In scenarios like farms, forests, industrial lines and temporary events, people want to keep an eye on the key areas, but conventional monitoring system is not a good choice. The reasons are as follows:

1. There are no power supplies and Ethernet cables, and wiring may cost a lot of money and time. Especially for some temporary events, it is not very cost-effective to invest a lot for wiring. Besides, in some developed countries, the wiring cost per kilometer may far exceed the cost of electrical equipments.

2. Even if the conventional monitoring system is able to be installed, there are actually few valuable monitoring targets in these scenarios, and the long-term working of cameras will consume a lot of power, which is not environmentally friendly and also cost a lot.

The recent energy crisis has brought European electricity bills close to 400 euros per megawatt. In this case, even if the camera is deployed on a small-scale farm, the annual electricity bill may be close to a thousand euros. Not to mention wiring maintenance and other matters.

In response to these pain points, Hikvision released the Solar-Powered Security Camera Setup, which contains a solar panel, a battery, a 4G camera and a bracket. It is made to perform in areas where power supplies and ethernet cables can't reach. Hikvision technology makes a difference in saving Sumatran endangered species

Save our "furry friends"

Being a tropical lowland forest, the ABT area has very challenging conditions and high-level maintenance requirements. To play a positive role in this conservation project, Hikvision cameras help monitor the area 24/7. In addition, the cameras can also monitor the movement of animals using intelligent technology, especially the endangered species that may come across the area.

As long as animals come into the area under the coverage of Hikvision cameras, images can be captured. The wide home range of the Sumatran tiger and the Sumatran elephant makes it difficult to monitor them all. Therefore, the captured images of animals within the range are particularly significant. Hikvision cameras incorporate the latest technology that provides highquality images to assist observation of animals. In this way, the animals' activity patterns can be learned and further studied.

Fortunately, in February 2023, a Sumatran elephant was captured on camera within the ABT area. This rare sighting serves as a testament to the outcomes of diligent forest restoration and protection efforts. It also underscores the crucial role played by technology in ensuring the survival of one of Sumatra’s treasured endemic species.

To ensure the best possible images of the animals and accurately detect their activities, Hikvision has utilized advanced video technologies, including ColorVu. These cameras feature advanced lenses and high-performance sensors, enabling clear day and night images, so the activities of Tapirs, Sumatran tigers, and Sumatran elephants can be observed in detail with vivid color, even in low-light conditions.

Due to the challenges of deploying power supplies and network cables in the forest, Solar-Powered Standalone Security Cameras have become a more practical solution for off-grid monitoring. These self-sufficient units are waterproof and windproof.

How Hikvision eDVRs maximize storage efficiency and predictability

Two attempts at making video storage more effective

The security industry has come up with various technologies and approaches to try to make video storage as efficient as possible. These include:

Variable bitrate technology

This looks at the scene and changes the bitrate according to the complexity – and the activity level. The plus point here is that the bitrate increases, and the image quality improves, when there’s actually something happening. The bad news is that storage requirements are totally unpredictable, giving operators no indication of how long footage will be stored before it is eliminated and ‘overwritten’.

Smart coding with a constant bitrate

This uses low, but constant, image compression to increase predictability of storage and to maximise storage efficiency. However, the bitrate is always the same, and the quality may not be good enough to take effective action in the event of an incident.

Overcoming the challenges with Hikvision

Instead of these legacy storage approaches, Hikvision is using an innovative technology called Scene Adaptive Bitrate Control to boost storage efficiency. This technology is embedded in all of Hikvision’s new eDVRs, which use eSDD storage instead of HDD drives.

To make storage as efficient as possible, the Hikvision eDVRs use variable bitrates – with more storage allocated temporarily for complex scenes. When there is nothing going on in the camera view, the bitrate is reduced dramatically, saving storage resources and extending the continuous recording time of the device.
