Newsletter School News Attention all budding scientists – MiSAC competition 2020 Mrs Stafford
The Microbiology in Schools Advisory Committee have launched their competition for 2020. This year’s competition aims to increase the understanding of how vaccines work. Winning entries will win cash prizes of up to £250 for their school and up to £100 for themselves. Students need to produce information for a social-media web site (VaccAid) for teenagers to explain what vaccines are and how they work. Year 10 students have been learning about vaccines in their GCSE topic Infection and Response and are already preparing entries. It would be great for other year groups to get involved as well. Students can enter individually or in groups up to a maximum of four people. We will be collecting all entries in and selecting the best ten entries for Key Stage 3 students (year 7 and 8) and ten entries for Key Stage 4 (year 9, 10 and 11). The deadline for entries into school will be Friday 20 March. Apprenticeship Fair at Chesterfield College Mrs Turner
A group of year 11 students had the opportunity to attend the Apprenticeship Fair at Chesterfield College on the morning of Tuesday 4 February. It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn more about the apprenticeship programmes on offer and make valuable connections with local employers. There was a dedicated team of advisors on hand who stressed the importance of submitting a strong application for an apprenticeship. All the apprenticeships are advertised on the national apprenticeship website.
