Why not discuss what you think about this question at home? Would an age limit be helpful or not?
THIS WEEK’S BIG READ: SKIN TONE PLASTERS
Plasters were first invented about a century ago, and many people have used them to protect and heal minor cuts or scrapes. However, for most of their history, plasters were only produced in light pink or beige shades, which did not match or blend with darker skin tones.
In 2014, a company called TruColou started manufacturing plasters that represented a diverse range of skin tones. In 2020, Band-Aid, the origina plaster company, announced their intention to follow suit. This was significant because it promoted inclusivity and representation for people of all skin tones.
COMPREHENSION CHALLENGE
When were plasters first invented? Which colours were used for plasters originally? When did TruColour start making plasters? Find and copy a word that means “making”. Why was this change important?
