Year 8 parent consultation evening reminder 11 February 2020 at Lumsdale:
As you are aware the year 8 parents evening is on Tuesday 11 February in the sports hall at Lumsdale (upper school site) between 4pm and 7pm.
During the evening you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with subject teachers. I would encourage you to bring your son/daughter to this meeting so that they can contribute to the discussion.
Students have been issued with an appointment sheet to record appointment times of five minutes per subject – please let your child know what appointment times you would like so they are aware when booking with staff.
If you have real concerns in a particular subject, please do not hesitate to contact the member of staff at a later date, if you are unsuccessful on the evening. The evening will end at 7pm promptly.
Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you.
Miss Hamrouge Head of Year 8

Reminder: Year 9 vaccination consent for Teenage Booster and Meningococcal ACWY (MEN ACWY)
Thank you to the parents/carers of students in year 9 who have already responded to the immunisation team’s vaccination information. If you have not yet given your consent, please can you ensure you do so as soon as possible in order for sufficient vaccines to be ordered.
The School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS) for Derbyshire give vaccines to students in school rather than through their GP surgeries. Year 9 vaccinations will take place on Tuesday 25 February 2020 for Meningococcal ACWY (Men ACWY) vaccine and the Teenage Booster vaccine.
Consent for your child to be vaccinated against these diseases is required and the Immunisation Team have implemented an e-consent for this programme of vaccinations for both girls and boys in year 9.
If you haven’t already done so, please visit https://www.derbyshireandcityimms.co.uk/ (of for iPhone and Android’s with the “scan me” app) and click on the Diphtheria, Tetanus & Polio, Men ACWY icon to complete the consent form. The option to consent or decline the vaccination is at the end of the questionnaire so please complete even if you do not want your child to have the vaccination.
The unique school code for Highfields School is DD112950
For more information about the vaccination please visit: http://www.derbyshireschoolnurses.org.uk/parents/immunisations
If you experience any problems or do not have access to give your consent on the e-consent form, please call the School Age Immunisation Team:
Clay Cross: 01246 252953 Repton: 01283 707178
Thank you for your co-operation.
Coronavirus
The government is closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus and is taking action at home and abroad. The overall risk of Coronavirus to the UK remains moderate. However, we understand that people may be concerned where there are students or staff returning from or visiting China.
Public Health England and the Foreign Office have issued advice for anyone travelling to the area. This can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/china https://www.gov.uk/government/news/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-and-avian-flu-advice-for-travel-tochina
Latest information and advice can also be found at: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
Advice to parents/carers
You should not be unduly worried about the possibility of your children catching the Coronavirus. There is no reason why your children should not continue to attend school as normal.
We recognise that some families or children may be planning to travel to China during the forthcoming half term period. If so, please refer to the FCO’s latest travel advice via the link above.
What action you can take
A UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of Coronavirus.
The campaign promotes basic hygiene practices, such as regularly washing hands and always sneezing into a tissue, to stem the spread of viruses.
