OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE TEST / Engine
Valve Clearance
Summary:
1. Perform measurement when the engine is cold.
2. Before starting work, clean the head cover mounting area to prevent contaminating the engine.
Preparation:
1. Locate top dead center (TDC) in the compression stroke. Align the 1.4TC mark on the crank pulley with the pointer on the timing gear case. Piston No.1 (or piston No.4) is now positioned at TDC in its compression stroke.
2. Remove the head cover (after cleaning).
3. When both the intake and exhaust valves on cylinder No.1 are closed, piston No.1 is positioned at the TDC in its compression stroke. (When both the intake and exhaust valves are closed on cylinder No.4, piston No.4 is positioned at TDC in its compression stroke.) Start measurement from cylinder No.1 or No.4 positioned at the TDC in its compression stroke.
Measurement:
1. Insert a feeler gauge into the clearance between the rocker arm and the valve stem end to measure the valve clearance.
The cylinders are arranged from No.1 to No.4 in that order, as viewed from the fan side.
