Driver’s manual Frame (1) The backbone frame is a weldment, the part of the frame is an equalizing tank of the engine water cooling. The plastic water tanks are placed in the front and rear part.

The fuel tank is mounted in the rear part. In the middle part is flexible mounted the cab, which can be lifted off by the hydraulic. Under the cab is placed the driving aggregate, oil tank and the accumulator. Behind the cab is fastened the protective frame. The protective frame can be folded up by the hydraulic. The driving aggregate space is from the sides covered by the opening covers.

Stirrups (2) They are rotary placed in the machine frame in the big-size anti-friction bearing. Both stirrups – front and rear – carry the flexible scrapers and pressure non-corrosive sprinkling unit, that is covered by the front and rear mask. The front stirrup is swiveling by the horizontal axis.

Front and rear carriage (3) Is welded from the metal plates. The carriage is either in one part, or divided into two halves, rotary connected by the big-size anti-friction bearing and each half is driven by the individual travel hydro-engine. The carriage is rotary placed in the travel hydro-engine bearings. In the inner collars are the anti-friction bearings, in that the vibration driver shaft is placed. On the end of the shaft are the drivers, composed of fixed and rotary eccentric. Turning the rotary eccentric during the changing the driver shaft turn direction we can select on of the two eccentric moments. The lubrication is secured by the oil fill.

Drive aggregate Is composed of the engine (4), that propels by the belt gear (5) the tandem travel hydro-generator and vibration hydro-generator (6) fig. 2. This complex is flexible placed to the machine frame. On the engine side is mounted the servo control hydro-generator.

Note: In VH 1000, hydraulic generators that are installed in parallel are driven by mechanical gears.

Radiator (8) Before the engine is placed the combined radiator of engine cooling liquid and the hydraulic set oil fig. 2 with the equalizing basin (9) integrated in the machine frame.

Engine air suction filter (10) The engine suction is on the rear cab part provided with the covering grid fig. 3 against infiltration of rough impurities. The suctioned air is cleaned in the two-level air cleaner (10) with the dry filter.

Exhaust (11) The exhaust gasses are delivered through the pipes in the frame to the exhaust absorber integrated into the protective frame ROPS. If the machine is not provided with the protective frame ROPS, the exhaust absorber is mounted individually.

2.1. Machine description Fuel tank (12) Is screwed to the frame behind the cab. It has its cleaning cover, sensor for the fuel amount, filling neck and outlet plug (1). The filling neck is equipped with the lockable cover with venting valve fig. 4.

Hydraulic tank (13) Is placed under the cab next to the driving aggregate. On the cover is placed the filling neck fig. 5. On the front tank wall are placed two oil gauges. The oil level must not drop under the peep-hole of the lower oil gauge. Next to the oil gauge is placed the hand pump for lifting the protective frame and cab fig. 6. To the hydraulic block on the tank cover lead all back deliveries of the hydraulic system. In the block there are the hydraulic oil thermometer sensor (1), cooling circuit securing valve and the thermostat fig.

7. The thermostat keeps the optimum temperature of hydraulic oil in the hydraulic system between the range of 55-70 °C (131 ÷ 158 °F). When the hydraulic oil temperature is too low, the radiator is set off.

Driver’s manual The air tanks (14) are of plastic, placed in the front and rear frame part. On the side of the both tanks are the water gauges fig. 8 for the control of minimum water amount. In the filling neck with large diameter with the plastic cover, is placed the basket for catching the rough impurities fig.

2.1. Machine description Cab (15) Is placed in the machine frame using the attenuation set.

This set separates the driver’s post from the vibrations transferred from the vibrating carriages. The cab is provided by one working place, which is rotary and can be moved to the sides. On the board with the controllers is placed the switchboard with the control instruments. On both sides of the cab are placed the driving mirrors. The front and rear windows are provided with the wiper and the screen washer jet. From the inner side the window is blown by the jets set. On the both cab sides are the divided doors, that can be opened using the gas brace (1), the secure coming in and out the cab is secured by the turning handles (2) with the arrestment fig. 11. The windows in the

divided doors can be opened individually and can be arrested in the opened position fig.12. The cab is designed such way to provide the best comfort for the driver, security and good view from the machine. For improving the temperature working conditions the cab can be provided by the air conditioning. The stream of the conditioned air is delivered in the cab using the permanent set outlets, window blowing jets and adjustable jets (1) fig. 13.

Driver’s manual The covers of the driving aggregate (16) The driving aggregate covers are mounted to the frame sides. In the opened position they are mechanically secured by the bracer fig. 14. Part of the covers are the footpaces for get the driver in the cab. Left cover has holes for enter the cooling air to the radiators.

Sprinkling (17) Serves for sprinkling of both carriages during the work on asphalt layers. The water distribution is done by the pipes.

The sprinkling individually for each carriage is composed of fine filter for catching the impurities, the pump and back valve. The sprinkling pipes with the jets (1) are mounted on the carriage stirrup fig. 15.

The scrapers (18) serving for cleaning the carriages surface. The scrapers are adjustable, with changeable plastic scraping ribbons (1) fig. 16.

2.1. Machine description Hydraulic set Travel drive Four slow-turn hydro engines, connected concurrently in the closed circuit with regulating piston hydro-generator are directly connected on the outer side with the carriages halves. The travel drive can be provided by the ASC system – electric hydraulic differential lock. When considering the non-divided carriages, the ASC system is not a part of the basic supply.

Vibration drive The closed circuit with the regulating hydro-generator that drive the two constant hydro-engines and the vibration block, that enables to start the vibration independently of the front, rear or both carriages in the same time.

Electric installation The accumulator (19) fig. 17, alternator and next controlling instruments are parts of the electric installation. The working voltage is 12 V. The minus pole (-) of the accumulator is connected through the disconnector to the machine ground fig.18. Using the disconnector we can switch the machine’s electric set on or off. Part of the electric installation are the controlling units independent for the travel control, driving direction control and the differential lock control. The units are placed in the desk under the switchboard. The computer can be connected to them and the GPI program using the connectors, for the purposes of faults diagnostic or setting different parameters.

Controlling the driving direction Is provided by the two direct hydro-engines mounted on the carriages stirrups and the machine frame. The driving is controlled by the proportional distributors. The pressure source in the driving and filtration circuit are two gear hydro-generators, that also serve for refilling and flushing in the complete hydraulic system.

The hydraulic system is cleaned using the suction basket in the oil tank and by the pressure filter in the filtration block. The hydraulic oil is cooled by the radiator.

Driver’s manual Protective frame ROPS (20) Is a construction protecting the driver when the machine is overturning. It meets the international requirements for the machine driver’s protections due to the standards : EN 500 – 4/1995 ISO 3471/1994 SAE J 1040:APR88

Auxiliary device Cutter Is designed for cutting the edges of the compacted layer or after changing the disc for re-compaction of the edge of compacted layer under the angle of 45 degrees of the asphalt road layer. The cutter is lifted and dropped by the direct engine. Its position is fixed by the hydraulic lock fig. 20.

2.2. Acceptance and de-conservation of the new machine Before putting the machine in work :

• check the machine according to the transport documents

• check if there are not any machine’s parts damaged because of the transport, or if there are not any missing parts

• inform the transporter about the deficiency • before putting the machine into operating do the global machine de-conservation

• wash the machine using the high-pressure hot water stream with additive of common de-lubricators (keep the ecological regulations).

The de-conservation and washing the machine do on places with collective catchments for catching the waste waters and de-conservative agents.

2.3. Main safety regulations 2.3.1.

Safety regulations for the machine’s operation

The safety regulations mentioned in the individual chapters of the technical documentation delivered with the machine must be completed with the safety regulations valid in the appropriate country where the machine is being used on the working place, considering the work organization, working process and the staff.

Don’t touch the hot parts of the machine until you find it sufficiently cold. Don’t open the radiator cover and also don’t let out the fills until they are hot. There is a danger of burn up and stain. Marking on the exhaust pipelining.

2.4. Environmental and sanitary precautions During operating and storing the machines is the owner obliged to obey the common regulations of health and environment safety and laws, regulations and rules corresponding to this area and valid in the area of using the machine.

2.4.1.

The fillings of individual machine systems and also some parts are after blackout the risk garbage for the environment.

Sanitary precautions

Oils, radiator, brake systems and accumulators fillings, cleaning and conserving agents and paints including thinners are harmful materials. Workers in contact with these products during the driving or maintenance of the machine are obliged to obey the common rules of the selfhealth protection and follow the safety and hygienic manuals from the manufacturers of this products.

We emphasize on: -

eyes and skin protection when working with accumulators

skin protection when working with oils, radiator or brake liquids, cleaning and conserving agents, with paints

-

proper washing the hands after finishing the work and before the meal, treat the hands with appropriate reparation cream.

when working with cooling systems obey the maintenance manual

Driver’s manual

Oils, radiator, brake systems and accumulators fillings, cleaning and conserving agents and paints including organic thinners and also cleaning and conserving agents always keep in original properly signed vessels. Don’t allow the storing of these materials in non-signed vessels and other bottles due to danger of exchange. Extremely dangerous is a possibility of exchange with meal or drinkables.

In the case of accidental stain of the skin, mucous membranes, eyes or of inhalation of the vapor, apply immediately first aid. In such case find the emergency first aid by the doctors.

2.5. Conservation and Storage of the machines 2.5.1.

Short-time conservation and storage for the period of 1-2 months

Carefully wash and clean the whole machine. Before blackout for the conservation and storing let the machine get warm starting the engine to the working temperature of 85 °C (185 °F). The machine must be placed on a solid flat area in a secured place where is no danger of damage the machine by natural disasters (floods, landslide, fire and so on).

Next: - repair all places of damaged paint

2.5.2.

Machine conservation and storage for the period longer than 2 months.

For the blackout of the machine are valid the same regulation as for the short-time conservation.

In addition we recommend to: -

dismount the accumulators, check their status and let them fully charge, store them in a cold and dry room and recharge them regularly every 3 months

-

the rubber elements protect by paint of REGUM agent or so

-

coat the chromium-plated piston-rod areas with conservative grease

-

conserve the machine by spraying of TECTYL 506 agent and likes, and mainly on the places of possible rise of the corrosion

-

lubricate all lubricating places, rigging, pinned handlers etc.

-

check if the water fillings are discharged

-

check if the cooling liquid has the required anti-frost qualities

-

-

check the status of charge the accumulators, possibly get them recharge

the engine suction and outlet blind with double PE foil, which hang properly by rounding with cellotape

-

-

chromium-plated piston-rod areas coat with conservative grease

the lights, outer driving mirrors and next elements of outer electric installation protect by spraying of TECTYL 506 and likes and wrap to PE foil

-

we recommend to protect the machine against corrosion by spraying of conservative agent RUST PEL, etc. (by applied spraying), and mainly on the places with danger of rise the corrosion.

-

conserve the engine according to the manufacturer’s manual - make a visible signs of engine conservation

On such a treat machine is not to provide some special preparations before consequently work deploying.

After six months we recommend to check the conservation status and if necessary, to regenerate it.

Before machine work deploying, clean the conservatives by high-pressure stream of hot water with additive of common degreasing agents, exceptionally use the paraffin or oil obeying the ecological rules.

During the storage never start the engine !

De-conservation and cleaning the machine make on the places with the catchment for catching the waste water and de-conservative agents.

In the case of machine storing in a field conditions check if the place is not exposed to the danger of float as the result of floods or if there isn’t such danger of other kinds !!

specialized companies, with a professional prime activities on this field and with appropriate license

Utilizing other possibilities of machine steering defined by the switch of the mode of steering the drums (9), Fig. 25, it will turn the front drum, the rear drum, both drums against each other.

Description of specific modes of steering the drums is discussed in Section 2.8.3.

Attention !

There is no limit position in turning the steering wheel, it may be rotated continually in the direction of travel. However, exercise care! While steering observe the position of the drum through the cutout in the floor or on the display.

Driver’s manual Travel control (2) controls the direction and speed of travel. The travel controller operates also as the brake of the machine. The controller moves forward ”F” and the roller moves also forward. The controller in the ”R” direction (Reverse) moves the roller backwards. The neutral position ”0”, Fig. 26, is in between. The travel speed is proportionate to the deviation of the controller from ”O” position. The controller is fixed in the set position by a friction clutch Position ”o” is signaled by light (27), Fig. 27.

When the controller is moved from ”o” to ”F” or ”R”, the brake control light (25) goes off as the brake release pressure is reached, and the roller starts moving. The vibration switch (8) is located in the handle of the lever to switch vibration on and off, Fig. 26.

Attention !

Should the roller be stopped immediately, the lever (2) is moved fast, within one second, through ”O” to the opposite direction of travel, while the motor remains running.

The machine may be started again by moving the lever (2) first to neutral and then to ”F” or ”R”.

2.7. Instruments and Controls Working speed pre-set (3)

Attention

The potentiometer serves for smooth selection of the speed mode in the scope from low speed “turtle” to the higher speed “rabbit” fig. 28. When setting the pre-set unit (3) in the random position, we can smoothly change the travel speed for the set machine speed mode by shifting the travel controller (2).

When set the pre-set unit to the “turtle” symbol to “0’ (the potentiometer is off) – the machine doesn’t move.

Soft start and end mode switch (4) It serves for setting the soft, smooth end run and start run of the machine when reversing the machine. When shifting the travel controller (2) under changing the drive direction within the interval over 1 second, it will not cause the machine stops from the higher speeds and consequent fast start (carriage slip). It will remove the making of “waves” on the compacted surface. Setting the function after pressing the button (4) fig. 28 is signalized by the indicator (31) fig. 29.

When select the soft start and end mode there is a longer roller path when stopping the roller.

The function of soft start and end mode we can utilize for immediate stopping the roller. When there is a need for immediate stop of the roller, by quick shifting the controller (2) through the “0” to the opposite position (drive direction) within the interval of 1 second will the machine stop immediately - the engine is still on – the function of set mode is turned off. The travel will be activated after shifting the controller (2) to the neutral position and pressing the button (4).

CRAB mode switch (5) After pushing the switch (5) will be the actual carriage driving mode set off – rear carriage will be negotiated to the “0” position – the “CRABING” mode driving will be activated. The switch is used together with the switch (6).

Switch for setting the CRAB mode for rear carriage (6) When pressing the two-position switch to chosen position of the rear carriage, the rear carriage is smoothly deflected from the drive direction axis. The deflection angle can be set within the range of 0 – 25 degrees and checked on the display (14).

During the period of setting the rear carriage the front carriage driving doesn’t react.

Stop button (10) In the case of emergency, when the machine can’t be stopped we have o use the stop button (10). When pressing the button the roller will stop, the engine will get off.

Indicator (25) is turned on. Releasing the brakes we can do by twisting the button in the direction given by the arrow. If the emergency brake switch is pressed, we can’t start the engine.

Parking brake push button (10a) The button brakes the machine instantaneously after stopping. The travel controller must be in position ”O”.

Light (25) turns on.

Use the button to brake the machine after the machine was stopped and the driver leaves his station while the motor is still on,

Cutter control switch (7) After switching the cutter and re-compaction function the arm will automatically move to the working position. On the arm is mounted the cutting block or re-compaction block for the compacted layer edges.

Start, stop vibration switch (8) After pressing the switch the vibration is off. By next switching will be the vibration on again. Start and end of the vibration is checked on the display (14).

Warning horn switch (11) By pressing the switch the horn is on.

Direction lights switch (12) Mode control switch (9) By switching we can select the control mode (turning) of the carriages. The carriages turning angle can be checked on the display (14).

By pressing the 3-position switch to the right will be on the right direction lights and vice versa. The function is signalized by the acoustic means and by the indicator (28).

When switching the key in the switch box (15) from the “0” position to the “1” position, there can be displayed “Z” at the carriage driving function. Engine thermometer (17)

It has three positions 0-1-2. In the “0” position the fuse appliances 1-5 are connected i.e. machine lighting and the working lamp plug. In the “1” position are the other appliances connected. The spring-loaded position “2” serves for starting the engine. The key can be removed only in the “0” position.

By the without-cab design, cover the switch box after removing the key by folding the switch box lid and by the securing cover.

Fuel gauge (16) It shows the fuel amount in the fuel tank. By drop the fuel level to the minimum amount it will cause the continuing lightening of the minimum fuel reserve indicator. We have to refuel.

It shows the engine coolant temperature. The working engine temperature is within the scope of 80-100 °C (176 – 212 °F). When the temperature is higher or lower, it can cause the engine failure.

Hydraulic oil thermometer (18) It shows the hydraulic oil temperature. The highest allowed temperature is 80 °C (176 °F). The optimal working temperature is 50 - 60 °C (122 - 140 °F). The lowest allowed temperature of the hydraulic oil is 25 °C (77 °F).

(The values are valid for the oil with kinetic viscosity of 46 mm 2/s).

Motorhours counter (19) It shows the hours number when the engine has been running. After lightening off the recharge indicator will the counter start to count the hours independently at the working engine revolutions.

Engine lubrication indicator (24) Lightening of the indicator during the engine run indicates non-sufficient oil pressure in the lubricating system. By switching the key (31) to the “1” position must be the indicator on – after starting the engine it will turn off.

If the indicator is on under the idle engine revolutions, we must stop the engine – check the oil level, or the indicator itself.

Neutral travel controller indicator (27) The lighted indicator signalizes the “0” position of the travel controller (neutral). In this position we can start the engine.

Direction lights indicator (28) When the direction lights are on the direction lights indicator is flashing.

Brake indicator (25) The lighted indicator indicates braked machine.

Air filter aggradation indicator (29) Oil filter aggradation indicator (26) Lighted indicator under the hydraulic oil working temperature of 50 – 60 °C (122 – 140 °F) signalizes the increase of pressure drop at the filtration insert as a result of aggradation by impurities and the need to change it.

The lighted indicator signalizes the increase of underpressure in the engine suction over the allowed limit and the necessity to clean or replace the insert.

It signalizes the proper function of the accumulator charge up. By switching the key in the switch box (15) to the “1” position the indicator must get on and after starting the engine must get off. If it doesn’t, seek the failure.

It will cause the increase of their draw force – the engine will be unloaded.

• The vibration can be according to the need turned off – on by switching the switch (8) in the travel controller (2).

Driver’s manual • Switch the key in the switch box to the “2” position and start the engine (hold the key in the “2” position just until the engine is started).

• Initiate the starting only for max. 15 seconds. If the engine doesn’t start, wait for a 1 minute and repeat the starting – if the engine doesn’t start even after 2 attemps, seek the failure.

• After starting inspect the proper function of the engine according to the indicators.

• Fast increasing of the engine revolutions is non-permissible – it can damage the engine.

• After starting let the engine running without load for an idle run 1100/min fig. 55.

• If the coolant temperature doesn’t reach the 60 °C (140 °F) and the hydraulic oil temperature 10 °C (50 °F), don’t load the engine for a full output.

Run the engine only from the driver’s post !

The travel controller must be in the “0” position – the neutral indicator is on.

The machine must be with released brakes before starting – using the “STOP” button.

When starting the engine with the auxiliary power supply, connect the grips plus (+) to plus (+) and minus (-) to minus (-).

Always connect the „minus“ as the last one and disconnect as the first one.

When starting with the auxiliary power supply, is not permitted to disconnect this supply sooner than the machine’s accumulators are connected. Watch out for the starting voltage of the auxiliary power supply (for 12 V).

Don’t disconnect the accumulator battery when the engine is on.

Is prohibited to check if the wire is live by sparking by the machine ground.

• Shift the controller (2) through “0” to opposite direction.

• The travel controller shift smoothly through “0” – the shift must be longer than 1 second.

Stopping the machine for safety sake.

• Move the controller (2) fast, within one second, through ”O” to the opposite direction.

• The machine stops immediately, and the function of soft landing is off. This function is reactivated by switch (4).

The soft start and end function

• If there is a need (compaction of asphalt surfaces) then activate by the switch (4) the function of soft start and end. The function is signalised by the indicator (31) fig. 59.

The machine may be moved again, if the controller (2) is returned first to neutral, and then to travel.

Do not use the accelerator (13) for controlling the speed of the machine.

In case of limited visibility switch lights on!

Attention !

When the switch (4) is activated, the end run is longer for stopping, reversing the machine !

• Read the angle on the display (14), in the window (2), function F2 fig. 68. Under this angle is the cab edge by the carriage (R) in the distance approx. 33 mm from the wall. The set angle can be bigger than 13°, but it will decrease the usable movement at the front carriage to the one side.

2.8.8.

• Turn the sprinkling switch (40) on for both carriages with indicator – the indicator shows the ready status.

• Set the cycling interval using the potentiometer (42).

• After starting the machine run is the sprinkling pump on according to the set interval and the indicator (41) gets on fig.76.

• Before starting the works check the sprinkling function – carriages sprinkling.

• Standing machine can sprinkle only when the potentiometer is set to max.

Stopping the machine and engine

• Switch off vibration by button (8), Fig. 77, or switch (20), Fig. 76.

• Place the travel controller (2), Fig. 77, to position ”0” - neutral indicator lights up (27), Fig. 76.

• Decrease revolutions to idle - 950 RPM. • Turn off all utility appliances: heater, fan, wipers, etc.

• Turn off the motor with ignition key to ”0”, Fig. 76, and remove key from the ignition box.

• Close the lid on the ignition box for protection.

Do not turn the motor off after working at full load, but let it idle for about 3 to 5 minutes at 950 RPM. The motor and the turbo blower cool off slowly and equally.

After stopping on a slope depress the parking brake button (10a); the machine brakes immediately.

2.9. Machine transport Around the jobsite out of the public roads is the machine moving on its own. Obey the safety regulations of the respective jobsite when transporting the machine.

2.9.1.

Moving on the public roads

• The basic machine design is not equipped for transport on public roads on its own and the transport is prohibited.

• The machine can be transported on the public roads on a transporting device of corresponding load with such platform height that the whole height with the roller doesn’t overreach 4 m. The machine must be during the transport fastened to the transporting device using the thimbles connected to binding points. The binding points are in front and rear stirrups. Fig. 93.

Safety regulations.

• The transport machine must be for transport the machine during the loading and unloading locked and mechanically secured against non-desirable move using the scotchs.

• When running on the transporting device and running out are all personnel obliged to get out of it except the machine driver, to prevent the accidents if the machine falls down.

• The worker vectoring the machine on the transporting device must stand still on one place out of the machine and out of the transporting device a be in sight of the driver (in a visual contact) during the whole period of the running on and out.

• The worker vectoring the machine must communicate with the driver using the specified communicating signs.

• When transporting the machine (on the platform) there can’t be any personnel nor on the platform, neither on the machine.

• The machine must be on the platform properly hanged and mechanically secured against shifting to all directions and also against turn over. The tires must be blocked using the scotchs.

• Before undergoing the underpasses, bridges, tunnels, elevated traces, check their height.

Loading the machine

For binding use only the designated hooking circles (pins).

Use only the crane and the binding means of sufficient payload.

The binding can be done only by licensed binder.

Do not enter under the suspended items.

2.9. Machine transport 2.9.4.

Towing the machine When towing, check if the brakes aren’t getting hot by non-sufficient releasing the brakes. After releasing the brakes of hydro-engines and shortcircuit the travel hydraulic circuit we can’t use the working, emergency and parking brakes. All brakes are out of order:

• In the case of failure can be machine towed for the necessary distance. The machine is equipped with the towing hangings in the front and back.

• Against slide of the carriages proceed following actions:

• Dismount on each hydro-engine travel three nuts fig.

2.10. Special conditions of the machine use 2.10.1. Travel with vibration on the compacted and hard materials By travel with tha machine under vibrations there could occur lost of the trad contact with the compacted material (so called vibroimpact) due to high ratio of the base material compaction or due to travel on the hard materials. That condition is realized by transfer the vibrations to the machine frame and to the driver´s post. Particulary wqe can remove the effects by increasing the travel speed or by changing the vibration values of the mechine (using lower amplitude). The increasing vibrations transfer to the driver´s post can occur also with the increasing ratio of base compacted material.

If there is a need to work with the machine under the conditions where the personel can be exposed to the incresed vibrations, the supervisor is obliged to change the working process to avoid the threating the driver´s health.

It is not allowed to work in the mode of vibratory impacts for a long time. In the extreme, the machine may be damaged.

Note: When driving the machine on the other base material under vibrations, then specified in the „Specification manual“ - Hygienical datas, the emision values of increasing the vibrations will be different.

2.10.2. Work at higher temperatures and humidity At higher altitudes the engine power drops. As these factors are not mutually dependent, their effects on the engine power can be approximately described as follows: ! every 10 °C (50 °F) of increased temperature causes the power drop up to 4 % (at constant humidity). !

If the engine at the high altitudes (over 1500 m) smokes black smoke, contact the engine manufacturer’s service, that will provide the adjusting of the injection pump due to these conditions.

The engine output is affected by the environment in which the machine works.
