1.1. Basic Data 1.1.1.

Machine description

Rollers VH170/180 are tandem vibration rollers with articulated frames and two smooth drums. Both drums are hydrostatically driven and vibrating. The vibration of the rear drum may be switched on and off. All functions of the machine are controlled by hydrostatic motors. The frames are designed to allow for soil compaction close to walls and curbs on both sides of the machine. Their small dimensions and turning radius make the machine suitable for work in limited areas. The operator's station permits perfect visibility of both rims of the drums.

Machine design

The machine meets the requirements for “CE” mark and the requirements due to the law no. 22/1997 Sb. (i.e. CSN EN 500-1,4 and next) for the Czech Republic and Directive 2000/14/EC (EN ISO 3744).

In the course of proposal has been respected requierements of international norms for hygiene, ergonomi and safety. The machine fulfil conditions for „CE“ mark.

Area of use

The rollers are intended to perform small size compaction in road construction, such as local roads, cycling paths, sidewalks, parking areas, and garage entries, and in general civil engineering work on smaller industrial areas. The rollers are particularly suited for compaction asphalt mixtures up to finished depth of 100 mm (3,9 in), however, may be used also for compacting hydraulically bonded mixtures up to finished depth of 120 mm (4,7 in), mixed soils up to 150 mm (5,9 in), or sandy and gravel materials up to 250 mm (9,8 in). The rollers are not suitable for compacting rock-fill and clay soils.

The machine has been designed for operations to ČSN IEC 721-2-1(038900); WT, WDr, MWDr, namely mild, warm and dry, or hot and dry climate, with limited temperature range of -15° C (5° F) to + 45° C (113° F).

2.1. Acceptance and de-conservation of the new machine Before a new machine is made operational

• Check the machine against delivery documents • Check that no parts of the machine have been damaged in transport or are missing

• Inform the forwarder of any discrepancies • Remove all conservation before starting operations.

• Wash the machine with pressurized hot water stream

and added degreasing chemicals. Observe ecological rules.

The de-conservation and washing the machine do on places with collective catchments for catching the waste waters and de-conservative agents.

2.2. Main safety regulations 2.2.1.

Safety regulations for the machine’soperation

The safety regulations mentioned in the individual chapters of the technical documentation delivered with the machine must be completed with the safety regulations valid in the appropriate country where the machine is being used on the working place, considering the work organization, working process and the staff.

2.2.1.1. Before starting the compaction works • The contractor of the building operations (machine

operator) is obliged to give the instruction for the driver and maintenance staff before starting the compaction works. The instruction must contain the requirements for secu- ring the work safety when manipulating the machine.

• He must check and sign:

leading of the engineer s nets

subterranean spaces (direction, depth)

percolation or outflow of the harmful matters

terrain load, travel area slope

next other obstacles including the way of their removal

He must inform the machine s drive that will do the works with such conditions.

2.2.1.3. Securing the safety regulations by the keeper • The keeper must ensure that the machine is being

operated only in such conditions and only for such purposes it is technically designed for due to the conditions set by the manufacturer and respective standards.

• He must ensure the using the roller only such way and on such working places where is no danger of making the damages on near buildings and so on.

• He must ensure the regular service inspection, tech-

nical status, regular machine maintenance within the intervals due to the machine s manual for the lubrication and maintenance. In the case of unsatisfactory technical machine status in such scope that it endangers the service, personnel or property safety or damages and depreciate the environment, the machine must be set out of the operations till removing the faults.

• He must determine, who and which kind of works is

allowed to do during the operations, maintenance and machine repairs.

• With the instructions written in the machine operations

manual must be informed the worker who will drive the machine (driver) and who will do the maintenance and machine repairs.

• He must ensure the Machine manipulation manual

2.2.1.2. Work in danger environment Any damages on the engineers nets must be independently reported to their keeper, consequently the regulations must be done for preventing the enter of unauthorized personnel to the danger space.

The worker must not work separately work on a place, where no other work is in sight or within hearing, that can in the case of accident provide or call the assistance, if no other kind of effective control or connection is established.

2.2. Main safety regulations 2.2.4.

Driver’s obligations

• Before operating the machine, the driver is obliged to

study the instruction given in the manual delivered with the machine, mainly with the safety regulations, and obey them properly. The same is valid for the personnel entrusted to carry out maintenance, adjusting and repairs of the machine. If you don t understand some parts of the manual, contact the nearest dealer or the manufacturer.

• Don t operate the roller until fully learn all functions of

the machine, working and service points and until exactly know how to operate the machine.

• The driver is obliged to pay attention to all signs

located on the machine and keep the signs in readable shape.

• Before he starts working, he must apprise with the

working place, i.e. with the obstacles, with lean of the terrain, with the locations of the engineers nets, with necessary kinds of the working place protections regards to environment (the noise level etc.).

• If the driver finds out the threat of health, people life, the

private property, some damages, the malfunction of technical installations, possibly finding such remarks during operating the machine, the driver is obliged to (when he is not able to repair it himself) don t manipulate the machine and secure the machine against unauthorized service, report it to the supervisor and give a warning to all personnel endangered by that threat.

• Before he starts, he must study all machine records and working deviations, founded out during last work.

• Before he starts, he is to check the machine, the

devices, inspect the control elements, radio and safety systems, if they are fully functional according to the manual. When finding out some faults that could endangered the work safety and he is not able to repair it himself, he is not allowed to run the machine and is obliged to report the fault to the appropriate supervisor.

• If any faults appears during the operation, he must stop

the machine immediately and safely ensure the machine against unauthorized operations.

• During operating the machine the driver is obliged to watch the machine work and founded faults record to the operation book.

• The driver is obliged to write the operation book, which

is designed for taking the records about acceptance and taking the machine among the drivers, about damages and repairs during the machine service, for the records of significant accidents during the work.

• Before the engine start all controllers must be in the zero position and there can t be any personnel within reach of the machine.

• Give the light or sound signal before every running the

machine, always before the starting of the machine engine.

• Before starting the machine service he is obliged to check if the steering and braking systems work well.

• During service the machine must driver obey the safety regulations, doesn t make any actions threat the work safety and pay full attention to the driving the machine.

• Respect the technological works progress, or the instructions of appropriate supervisor.

• When travel around the workplace, travel speed must

be adequate to the terrain status, provided work and the weather conditions. The driver is obliged to observe the path to prevent the collisions with any obstacle.

• Any time the machine is left after or during the machine

service, when the worker leaves the machine, he is obliged to lock the machine against unauthorized use and against the self-running. Take off the key from the switch box and disconnect the electrical installation by the disconnector.

• Before leaving the driver s post move the seat in the middle of the cabin and turn the seat towards to the cabin doors.

• After the work is finished, the machine is to be placed

on a suitable place (flat, level ground area), where the stability of the machine is not endangered, without interference to the roads, where is no danger of falling objects (soil) and where is not the machine endangered by other kinds of natural disasters (floods, landslide etc.).

• When leaving the machine on a public roads, all regulations required for the road traffic regulations must be done.

• When the work is finished, all failures, machine dama-

ges and done repairs are to be written into the operation book. When the drivers are changing the first driver must inform the next driver of all such matters.

• The driver must wear the protective clothes - working

suit, working shoes. The suit must not be too loose, damaged, the hair have to be protected by suitable head-gear. When doing the maintenance (lubrications, refilling, changing the working devices) the hands have to be protected by the suitable gloves.

• The driver is obliged to maintain the machine installations by appropriate machine accessories and sets.

• He must keep the driver s post, footboards and climbing-iron perfectly clean.

• When folding up the cab and protective frame, inspect

if there is room necessary for lifting and if there are not any electrical wires. Before dropping the cab and protective frame check is there is no one threat by such manipulations.

• The folded cab secure with the mechanic brace.

• If the machine comes into contact with high voltage, keep these instructions: -

try to leave the dangerous area with the machine don t leave the driver s post give a warning to the others to don t come near the machine and don t touch the machine.

• Keep the machine clean of oil impurities and flammables.

• Before getting the warning signal the driver is allowed

to run the machine only after all workers are out of the threat space. On a blind working places there is possible to run the machine only after a period of timenecessary for the personnel to get out of the threat space.

2.3. Ecological and hygienic fundamentals During operating and storing the machines is the owner obliged to obey the common regulations of health and environment safety and laws, regulations and rules corresponding to this area and valid in the area of using the machine.

2.3.1.

Hygienic fundamentals

• Oils, radiator, brake systems and accumulators fillings, cleaning and conserving agents and paints including thinners are harmful materials. Workers in contact with these products during the driving or maintenance of the machine are obliged to obey the common rules of the self-health protection and follow the safety and hygienic manuals from the manufacturers of this products.

We emphasize on:

eyes and skin protection when working with accumulators

skin protection when working with oils, radiator or brake liquids, cleaning and conserving agents, with paints

proper washing the hands after finishing the work and before the meal, treat the hands with appropriate reparation cream.

when working with cooling systems obey the maintenance manual

2.3.2.

Ecological fundamentals

• The fillings of individual machine systems and also some parts are after blackout the risk garbage for the environment.

To this category of waste products belongs :

organic and synthetic lubricants, oils and fuels

cooling liquids

accumulator fills and accumulators themselves

the conditioner systems fillings

cleaning and conserving materials

all dismounted filters and filter inserts

all used and blackouted hydraulic and fuel pipes, rubber steels and other machine parts, contained by materials mentioned above.

With materials and parts listed above we must manipulate after blackout according to the appropriate national regulations for individual environment parts protection and according to the health protection regulations.

• Oils, radiator, brake systems and accumulators fillings, cleaning and conserving agents and paints including organic thinners and also cleaning and conserving agents always keep in original properly signed vessels. Don t allow the storing of these materials in non-signed vessels and other bottles due to danger of exchange. Extremely dangerous is a possibility of exchange with meal or drinkables.

• In the case of accidental stain of the skin, mucous

membranes, eyes or of inhalation of the vapor, apply immediately first aid. In such case find the emergency first aid by the doctors.

• Always use proper type and design of ear-protectors when working with the machine without cabin or with open windows.

2.4. Conservation and Storage of the machines 2.4.1.

Short-time conservation and storagefor the period of 1-2 months

Carefully wash and clean the whole machine. Before blackout for the conservation and storing let the machine get warm starting the engine to the working temperature of 85 °C (185 °F). The machine must be placed on a solid flat area in a secured place where is no danger of damage the machine by natural disasters (floods, landslide, fire and so on).

Next: repair all places of damaged paint

2.4.2.

Machine conservation and storage for the period longer than 2 months

For the blackout of the machine are valid the same regulation as for the short-time conservation.

In addition we recommend to:

dismount the accumulators, check their status and let them fully charge, store them in a cold and dry room and recharge them regularly every 3 months

apply a special preservative preparation to rubber elements

apply a special preservative preparation to the chromium-plated surface of the piston rod,

apply a special preservative preparation spray to the machine, especially where rust might appear.

lubricate all lubricating places, rigging, pinned handlers etc.

check if the water fillings are discharged

check if the cooling liquid has the required anti-frost qualities

check the status of charge the accumulators, possibly get them recharge

the engine suction and outlet blind with double PE foil, which hang properly by rounding with cellotape

chromium-plated piston-rod areas coat with conservative grease

the lights, outer driving mirrors and next elements of outer electric installation protect by spraying of TECTYL 506 and likes and wrap to PE foil

we recommend to protect the machine against corrosion by spraying of conservative agent RUST PEL, etc. (by applied spraying), and mainly on the places with danger of rise the corrosion

conserve the engine according to the manufacturer s manual - make a visible signs of engine conservation

Corrosion protection of the machine using preservative preparation spray is recommended, especially where there is a danger of rust.

On such a treat machine is not to provide some special preparations before consequently work deploying.

After six months we recommend to check the conservation status and if necessary, to regenerate it.

Before machine work deploying, clean the conservatives by high-pressure stream of hot water with additive of common degreasing agents, exceptionally use the paraffin or oil obeying the ecological rules.

During the storage never start the engine!

De-conservation and cleaning the machine make on the places with the catchment for catching the waste water and de-conservative agents.

In the case of machine storing in a field conditions check if the place is not exposed to the danger of float as the result of floods or if there isn’t such danger of other kinds !!

2.5. Machine dispose after its lifecycle

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

By the machine dispose after its lifecycle is the user obliged to obey the national regulations and laws about wastes and environment protection. We recommend to contact in such cases always

specialized companies, with a professional prime activities on this field and with appropriate license

manufacturers of STA or by them delegated accredited contractor service organizations.

STA is not responsible both for the damages on the owners health and the damages caused on the environment in the cases of infringement of above specified hygienic and ecological fundamentals.

2.7. Instruments and Controls

Steerin Wheel (1) The steering wheel serves to steer the machine. Turning the wheel to right causes articulation of the roller to right and opposite.

Travel controller (2) Direction and speed are controlled by this device. If it is in its neutral position ( 0 ), the brake is on and the machine can be started.

When the machine has been started you must draw the controller towards yourself and change the position from 0 to D travelling position.

Controller position F1 = the machine goes forward at working speed.

Controller position B1 = the machine goes backward at working speed.

Controller position F2 = the machine goes forward at travelling speed.

Controller position B2 = the machine goes backward at travelling speed.

The vibration switch (ON/OFF) (2) is in the controller handle and by means of it you can switch on or off vibrations during compaction.

Engine throttle control (4) It is used for setting combustion engine revolutions in the range of idling rate (approximately RPM 1200/min and maximum rate. The engine throttle control is coupled using a rope with the handle of the fuel injection pump.

Switch box (5) The box has four positions, i. e., 0 , I , II , and III .

0 position = ENGINE STOP I position = all appliances are connected II position = engine glow is ON in cold weather it is necessary to hold the. The functions is indicated with (32) engine incandescent indicator lamp. ignition key in this position for about one minute III position = ENGINE START.

Pay attention to the following information: Travelling speed corresponds to the size of controller deflection in the speed mode chosen.

The controller is fixed at the set position.

The travel controller serves also as a service brake of the machine.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Emergency brake button (6) In the event of any defect if the machine cannot be stopped by switching positions of the travelling controller (2) it is necessary to use the emergency brake button (6).

After pushing the button the brake is applied and the engine switches off. Pilot lamp (17) is ON. The brake is released by turning the button in the direction of the arrow.

Never use the STOP button as a brake!

Parking brake switch (8) It is used for brake activation the function is indicated with (17) pilot lamp.

After shifting the travel controller to the neutral position switch on and the brakes are applied immediately.

It should be used when the brakes must be applied immediately (e.g. when working on a slope). You must release the brake using the switch before starting.

If the switch of the emergency brake is pushed down, the engine cannot be started.

Never apply the parking brake when the machine is running!

Switch and indicator of front headlights (12) (options)

Vibration switch (11) MAN position = manual vibration switching (ON/OFF) has been selected in the range of operating and travelling speed the machine can vibrate on the spot.

AUT position = automatic vibration switching (ON/OFF) has been selected in the range of operating speed when the machine stops the vibration goes OFF automatically.

Never vibrate on the spot with vibration ON for longer than 30 seconds.

If you want to activate vibration, switch (3) on the travelling controller must be ON.

Engine overheating warning indicator (15) When the engine temperature reaches the highest allowable level, the engine overheating pilot lamp goes ON, an audible warning is given.

When the lamp goes ON while the engine is running, stop the engine immediately!

Sprinkling operation indicator (19) Hydraulic fluid heater warning indicator (16) When the fluid temperature reaches the highest allowable level the fluid owerhaitng warm lamp goes ON, an audible warning is given.

The indicator signals drum sprinkling. The sprinkling pump is on.

Vibration indicator (20) Brake indicator (17)

The indicator signals vibration on. Vibration is turned on or off with the switch (3) in the travel controller.

The lit up indicator signals that the brake is on.

Indicator of direction lights (21) (options) Engine lubrication pilot lamp (18) It indicates sufficient oil pressure in the lubrication system of the engine. After switching the key to 1 position the lamp must go ON and after starting it goes OFF.

This indicator starts blinking when the direction lights are turned on.

Check direction lights.

If the lamp goes ON when the engine is running, insufficient lubrication of the engine is indicated.

Operating hours counter (30)

Glow pilot lamp (32) After switching the key to II position the lamp must go ON, engine glow lamp is ON. After extinction engine incandescent indicator lamp switching the key to III position starting engine.

The counter shows number of motor operating hours. The counter starts counting hours after the charging indicator went off. The recorded time is not dependent of the motor's revolutions.

Controlling basic functions of the machine

2.8.1.1. Starting the motor The starting procedure: • Switch on the storage battery master switch (31).

• Shift the travelling controller (2) to 0 neutral position (the engine can be started only in the neutral position).

It is necessary to check the amount of oil in the engine and hydraulic tank, the amount of fuel in the fuel tank, and the amount of water in the water tanks every day before starting the engine.

Make sure that no engine components are loose, worn or missing.

The engine may be started from the driver’s post only.

Before starting the engine use the horn and make sure that nobody can be endangered by starting the engine.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS • Insert the ignition key into the switch box (5) and shift

it to the I position, the battery charge (14) and engine lubrication (18) pilot lamps will go ON as well as the lamp of brake (17).

• Place the engine throttle control (4) approximately in the middle.

• Switch the key into the suspended II position and hold it there position into conkout pilot light incandescence (preheating). In case of installing standart glow lamp,glow lamp goes off after about 6 seconds, when the starter switch key is turned to II position.

• Do not try to start the engine (the key III position) for a longer period of time than 10 seconds. If it does not start, wait about 30 seconds and repeat the process (preheating II position and start III position).

• Do not try to start the engine for a longer period of time

than 10 seconds. If it does not start, wait about 30 seconds and repeat the process.

• When starting for the second and subsequent times, shift the engine throttle control to maximum fuel supply.

• If the engine does not start even after three attempts, look for a defect.

• After starting the engine, let it run without any load at an increased rate 1300-1500 RPM

• Do not use full load until the engine warms up (for about 3 to 5 minutes).

• Rapid increase or decrease in RPM is inadmissible.

The machine must be with released brakes before starting – using the “STOP” button (6). The travel controller must be in the “0” position.

When starting the engine with the auxiliary power supply, connect the grips plus (+) to plus (+) and minus (-) to minus (-).

Always connect the „minus“ as the last one and disconnect as the first one.

When starting with the auxiliary power supply, is not permitted to disconnect this supply sooner than the machine’s accumulators are connected. Watch out for the starting voltage of the auxiliary power suply (for 12 V).

Don’t disconnect the accumulator battery when the engine is on.

Is prohibited to check if the wire is live by sparking by the machine ground.

AUT position = the machine vibrates in the operating speed mode. If the machine does not run, vibration automatically goes OFF. MAN position = the machine vibrates independently of the speed selected even though the machine stays on the spot.

Choose engine throttle in max. position (4).

using the vibration switch (3). The drums will start vibrating, pilot lamp (20) will light up. Vibration can be interrupted by pressing the vibration switch (3) again.

The accelerator controller (4) must always be set to position II when vibration is ON.

Never use vibration for longer than 30 seconds when the machine stays on the spot as the vibrator bearings could be damaged. Never start vibration on hard (frozen, concrete) ground.

• Let a hot engine run idle for about 1 to 2 minutes at 1300 rpm.

• Clean the machine, the scrapers, etc.

• Inspect the machine and repair defects caused by its operation.

• Check that the accessories are properly stored.

• Wedge the drums with blocks.

• Make sure that there is no danger of landslides, flooding, etc.

• Remove key (1) from the switch box.

• Lock the hood.

If the lubrication indicator lights up during travel, stop the motor immediately, find the defect and repair it.

In case of emergency, particularly on a slope, stop the machine immediately by pressing the parking brake switch after the travel lever was shifted to neutral.

• Close and lock the lid (2) over the dashboard to protect it against vandals.

Stop the machine on a flat and firm ground.

Check that the parking spot is in no danger by forces of nature (landslide, flood, etc.).

2.9. Machine transport 2.9.1

Moving the machine on the site

The machine moves on its own over the site outside public roads. Observe safety regulations applicable to specific sites.

During times of low visibility the machine must have its headlights turned on.

2.9.2.

Moving the machine on public roads

• The basic modification of the machine is not equipped for moving on its own on public roads, and its travel there is forbidden.

• The roller may be moved loaded on a truck of suitable

carrying capacity. The elevation of the platform must be such so that the total height including the roller is not more than 4 meters. The machine must be properly fastened to the carrier vehicle. The binding points are following: front and rear fastening eyes at the side plates of the drum frame.

SAFETY REGULATIONS The transport machine must be for transport the machine during the loading and unloading locked and mechanically secured against non-desirable move using the scotchs.

When running on the transporting device and running out are all personnel obliged to get out of it except the machine driver, to prevent the accidents if the machine falls down.

2.9. Machine transport Steps for returning the machine to its original shape

When finished with towing, wedge both drums and wheels and prevent spontaneous movement.

• Apply brake by releasing two bolts and inserting plugs (1) in Poclain hydraulic motors.

• Slide back the lever for short-circuiting the hydraulic loop to position I. (shut) and safeguard with washer against remove of lever.

Towing the machine - General Safety Instructions Before you release the brakes, wedge the both drums against any spontaneous movement of the machine thereafter.

When towing the roller, check, if the brakes do not get warm because of insufficient releasing. When the brakes of gears, hydromotors are released and the hydraulic circuit short-circuited, no braking system is available! All the service, emergency and parking brakes are out of operation!

Do not start the engine during towing.

For towing use undamaged ropes or tow bars of sufficient capacity 1.5 x higher than the weight of the towed vehicle. Do not use a chain for towing!

Nobody may be on the vehicle that is being towed with non-functioning motor.

It is necessary to maintain the minimal deviation from the direct towing angle. Maximum deviation is possible within 30°.

Smooth and constant movement must be maintained in towing. Do not exceed towing speed by more than 2 km/hour (1.2 mph) and do not tow for more than 300 m (0.19 miles) The towing machine should correspond by its size to the damaged machine. It must have sufficient towing power, weight and braking effect.

When towing down hill an additional machine must be attached to the rear end of the machine. This way it is possible to prevent an inadvertent movement of the damaged machine.

These are general requirements for a safe towing of the machine under normal conditions. Any possibly different situation that could occur during towing must be consulted with the dealer When towing is completed, return the machine into its original shape.

2.10. Special conditions of the machine use

2.10.1. Travel with vibration on the compacted and hard materials

2.10.2. Operating the machine under more severe weather conditions

By travel with tha machine under vibrations there could occur lost of the trad contact with the compacted material (so called vibroimpact) due to high ratio of the base material compaction or due to travel on the hard materials. That condition is realized by transfer the vibrations to the machine frame and to the driver´s post. Particulary wqe can remove the effects by increasing the travel speed or by changing the vibration values of the mechine (using lower amplitude). The increasing vibrations transfer to the driver´s post can occur also with the increasing ratio of base compacted material.

2.10.2.1. Machine operation at low temperatures

If there is a need to work with the machine under the conditions where the personel can be exposed to the incresed vibrations, the supervisor is obliged to change the working process to avoid the threating the driver´s health.

Long-term work in the vibrationstroke mode is not allowed. The machine could be damaged in extreme situations.

Compacting in winter depends on the content of minute particles and water in the compacted soil. With dropping temperature below freezing the ground becomes firmer and more difficult to be compacted.

If it becomes necessary to work at temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F), it is possible to compact dry soil and gravel or do fast compacting of unfrozen materials before the ground freezes solid.

For good starting at low temperatures the battery must be fully charged. By warming up the battery to 20 °C (68 °F), by taking it out and storing it in a warm room, the limit temperature for starting is lowered by 4 to 5 °C (39 to 41 °F).

The machine may be used only after the fluids have been heated up to working temperature.

2.10.2.4. Work in dusty environments If the environment is very dusty, reduce intervals of cleaning the air filter and change its elements more frequently; clean the engine cooler and hydraulics more often too.

If the engine at the high altitudes (over 1500 m) smokes black smoke, contact the engine manufacturer s service, that will provide the adjusting of the injection pump due to these conditions.

3.1.3.1. Hygienic fundamentals Oils, radiator, brake systems and accumulators fillings, cleaning and conserving agents and paints including thinners are harmful materials. Workers in contact with these products during the driving or maintenance of the machine are obliged to obey the common rules of the selfhealth protection and follow the safety and hygienic manuals from the manufacturers of this products.

Oils, radiator, brake systems and accumulators fillings, cleaning and conserving agents and paints including organic thinners and also cleaning and conserving agents always keep in original properly signed vessels. Don’t allow the storing of these materials in non-signed vessels and other bottles due to danger of exchange. Extremely dangerous is a possibility of exchange with meal or drinkables.

In the case of accidental stain of the skin, mucous membranes, eyes or of inhalation of the vapor, apply immediately first aid. In such case find the emergency first aid by the doctors.

When working with the machine use the ears protectors always of convenient kind and design.

3.2. Specification of fluids 3.2.1.

Engine oil

Engine oil is specified by its performance and viscosity classifications.

Performance classification according to API (AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE) CCMC (COMMITE of COMMON MARKET AUTOMOBILE CONSTRUCTORS).

ACEA (ASSOTIATION DES CONSTRUCTEURS EUROPÉENS DE AUTOMOBILE) Viscosity classification To determine SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) viscosity class, the ambient temperature and type of operation in place of usage of the machine are decisive.

Diesel is used as fuel:

All season - SAE 10W-40 (e.g. Valvoline, Premium Blue,).

Therefore use winter Diesel fuel at outdoor temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F). Special Diesel fuel with additives intended for very low temperatures must be used at outdoor temperatures below -15 °C (5 °F) (”super Diesel”).

NOTE Exceeding of the lower temperature limit does not damage the engine, it may only cause starting problems.

It is suitable to use general-purpose multi-grade oil in order that oil need not be exchanged because of ambient temperature changes.

For easier start at temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F), SAE 10W-40 oil is recommended by the engine manufacturer.

Exceeding the upper temperature limit must not last for long, taking into consideration reduced lubricating properties of oil.

Use coolant consisting of 40 - 60% of frost-resistant ethyl glycol agent and water according to Table all year-round for the cooling system of the engine. Use the coolant with antifreeze even in zones where temperatures do not fall below 0 °C (32 °F). The coolant is not only protecting the cooling system against frost but increases also the boiling point. Inhibitors contained in the antifreeze protect parts of the engine cooling system and extend their life.

Nitric amines dangerous to health are formed when mixing the nitride-base antifreeze and the aminebase agent.

Check the ratio of antifreeze in the coolant before wintertime using a refract meter (hydrometer).

Do not use antifreeze aggressive to aluminum - it may cause corrosion of the radiator.

Hydraulic oil

! NOTE !

For use in the hydraulic system of the machine, only highquality hydraulic oils of output class according to ISO 6743/HV (equal to DIN 51524 part 3 HVLP; CETOP RP 91 H).

The machines are filled with hydraulic oil of kinetic viscosity 46 mm2/s at 40 °C (104 °F) ISO VG 46 by the manufacturer. This particular oil is suited for applications in the widest range of ambient temperatures.

At high ambient temperatures, when the oil temperature reaches continual 90 °C (194 °F), we recommend replacing the oil with one of kinetic viscosity 100 mm2/s - HV 100 (BP BARTRAN HV 100; ESSO UNIVIS N 100, etc.)

At temperatures below –13 °C (9 °F), replace oil with one of kinetic viscosity 32 mm2/s - viscosity class HV 32, such as BP BARTRAN HV 32, ESSO UNIVIS N 32, etc.).

3.6. Individual operations of maintenance The lubrication and maintenance is done in regularly repeated intervals due to daily counting the numbers on the motorhours counter.

Dismounted or unscrewed screws, plugs, worm connections of the hydraulic etc. retighten by the tightening moment due to the tables mentioned in the chap. 3.6.33. else otherwise specified by the different value at respective operation.

Within this manual are mentioned only the basic information about the engine, other information are mentioned in the manual for the manipulation and maintenance of the engine, which is part of the documentation delivered with the machine.

Obey the instruction mentioned in the manipulation and maintenance manual!

After first 50 - 150 hours of operation a new machine after General Repair, follow

Check and add oil to motor

When operating the machine on steeper slopes, maintain oil level on MAX.

Do before starting the motor; the machine must be level on firm and straight ground If the motor was running, wait about 5 minutes for the oil to run down in the sump.

Raise the hood, pull out the dipstick (1), wipe with lint free cloth.

Reinsert fully and read off the oil level with dipstick out.

Oil level must be between marks MAX and MIN on the dipstick.

Unscrew plug (2) in the filling throat and add oil. Wait about a minute and recheck.

Add oil of the same type only.

Check tightness of the motor, repair if necessary.

Inspect the motor to find any possible defects or missing parts, or visible discrepancies.

While the motor is being run in, we recommend checking oil twice daily.

• Check the coolant level of the reserve tank. When it is within betweeen the “FULL” and “LOW” marks, the coolant will last for the one day‘s work.

• When the coolant level drops due to evaporation,and water only up to the full level see chapter 3.2.3.

Check the coolant level before every operation.

Do not remove the radiator cap while coolant is hot. Work only after letting the engine and radiator cool off complety (more then 30 minutes after it has been stopped).

Do not refill reserve tank with coolant over the “Full” level mark.

Be sure to close the radiator cap securely. If the cap is loose or improperly closed, coolant may leak out and decrease quickly.

Inspection, refilling the fuel amount

Check the fuel amount at the fuel gauge (1).

Fill the fuel tank to the lower edge of the filling tube only, check the level on the level indicator.

Use the clean recommended fuel only due to chapter 3.2.2.

During the work, keep the place clear.

Don’t spend the whole fuel tank. If you do so, reach the air intake fuel system.

The content of the fuel tank is 34 l (8,9 gal US), enough to last 16 hours of normal operation.

When working, don’t smoke and use the naked fire.

Don’t refill the fuel in closed buildings.

Don’t refill the fuel under the engine is on.

Inspection of hydraulic oil filter fouling

Do this while the motor is running and the oil temperature is 50 -60 °C (122 - 140 °F).

Check indicator (1), whether there is an increased pressure due to the fouling of the filter cartridge.

Checking the fuel pipes

If the clamp band is loose, apply oil to the screw of the band, and tighten the band securely.

If the fuel pipes and clamp bands are found worn or damaged before two years‘time, replace or repair them at once.

After replacement of the pipes and bands, air – bleed the fuel system.

Check or replase the fuel pipes after stopping the engine. Broken fuel pipes can cause fires.

3.6.10. Inspection of warning equipment and emergency brake • •

With ignition key (5) in position ”0” check the correct operation of all lights (12, 13), warning horn (7) and lights (23), turn signals (9, 21), and the beacon (22).

Turn ignition key (5) to position ”I” – charging indicator (14), engine lubrication (18) and parking brake (17) indicator turn on.

Start the motor –lubrication (18) and charging (14) lights should turn off.

Speed up the motor slightly above idle, start machine - turn off braking warning lamp (17).

Press emergency brake push button (6), brake indicator (17) should turn on, motor RPM drop down and the motor stops. By turning emergency brake push button to the left the emergency brake is off.

If the emergency brake function is not correct, it is not allowed to use the machine. The defect must be corrected.

3.6.11. Change of engine oil

Let the oil out after finishing the work or after decreasing the temperature to 60 °C (140 °F), or with the engine turned on (when driving the machine) wait until the oil temperature reaches the 60 °C (140 °F).

•

Place the roller to the horizontal position on a flat, solid base.

•

• • • •

Start the engine and let it run under increased revolutions for 2-3 minutes.

Stop the engine, wait for 5 min. to let the oil flow down to the machine van. Then check the proper oil level – if necessary, replenish to upper guideline of the gauge (3).

Check the tightness.

Turn the engine off and disconnect the electric machine installations.

Prepare the convenient vessel with capacity approx.

5 l (1,32 gal US).

Dismount the outlet plug (1) and let the oil flow out.

Change oil and filter in a new motor or after GO (General Overhaul) after 50 ÷ 100 Operating hours. (See 3.6.17. Replacing the oil filter cartrige) Change the oil always after 1 year even the exchange interval doesn’t reach the 100 work-out motorhours.

Use recommended oils only due to chap.

3.2.1.

When out-flowing the hot oil, watch out for possibility of burn ups.

Catch the outflowing oil, don’t let it suck in to the ground.

Dispose according the valid regulations.

Check the worm and clean the contact area for the packing.

Mount the plug back. Tightening moment 50 Nm (37 ft lb).

Fill the engine with clean engine oil by the filling neck (2). The whole content is 4,5 l (1,18 gal US) of oil.

3.6.12. Inspection and adjusting of the play of cooling fan belt

Using the measure

•

Place the roller horizontally on solid, flat base.

•

Stop the engine and disconnect the electrical machine’s installation.

•

Belts inspection

• •

Check by visual mean the belt status at whole circumference (heavily jagged borders, rifts).

Check the belt strain – push the thumb to belt using power of approx. 30-50 N – the flexure must not be greater than 7 - 10 mm.

•

The scale leg (1) push to the measuring instrument.

The measure leader (3) place between pulleys on vbelt (2) – the stop must lie on the belt side.

Push the button (4) perpendicularly to the v-belt until the spring is hearable or sensible loaded.

Carefully take out the scale to avoid the movement of scale leg (1).

Read the measured value in the point of scale cut (see pointer) (5).

The value tigtening of belt with use gauge: Tension value - 400±20 N Tension value * - 300±20 N

When new V-belts are fitted check the belt tension ofter ca. 15 minutes running time.

Change the damaged belt.

For checking the belt we can use also the belt strain measure, that can be ordered under number 91 107 at: Com. WILBAR Postfach 14 05 80 D-42826 SRN

Belt tension

Lossen the alternator mounting bolts (1) and using a lever placed (2) betwen the alternator and the engine block, pull the alternator (direction of the arrow) out until the deflection of the belt falls within acceptable limits.

Do not over tightin sience the service life of bearings of the alternator could be shortened.

Check tension 15 minutes later.

Check and stretch the belts when the engine is off.

3.6.13. Inspection of the accumulators status

Place the roller horizontally on solid, flat base.

Stop the engine and disconnect the electrical machine’s installation.

Clean the accumulators’ surface e.g. by water and dry them out.

Check the poles and clamps status. Clean the accumulator poles and clamps.

Slightly lubricate the clamps by grease (attend to a good contact).

Check the electrolyte level after opening the plugs of accumulator cells - if the electrolyte level reaches to the 5-15 mm in each cell. The level can be checked by glass pipe.

The cells with lower electrolyte level refill with distilled water to specified level.

•

Close the accumulators.

•

Keep the accumulators dry and clean.

•

•

Measure the electrolyte consistency in each cells.

•

Compare measured values with table. The table indicates battery charge at 20 °C (68 °F) and in tropics.

The requirements for the accumulators are extremely high in winter season. The accumulators have only part of their capacity needful for starting the machine at lower temperatures comparing with the capacity during normal conditions. For that case we recommended to check the battery electrolyte status and necessary recharge.

If the machine is not used during heavy frost weather during a few weeks, dismount the accumulators and store them such way to protect them against the frost.

Otherwise they can be damaged by the frost.

In case of non-sufficient accumulator capacity recharge the accumulators.

•

The accumulator recharge do outside the machine.

•

Before recharging, open the accumulator plugs.

•

•

The run-down accumulator can freeze up already at few grades under zero. Before recharging, let the accumulator defrost otherwise it can explode when recharging.

After recharging, connect the accumulators properly (same poles), attend to a good contact.

When manipulating with the accumulators, keep these regulations !!!

The accumulator electrolyte is a strong acid. When manipulating with the accumulators, use the protective rubber gloves and means for eye protection.

Protect the skin and clothes against stain with the electrolyte or lead elements.

When contact the eyes with the electrolyte imme-diately wash the afflicted eye by the water stream for a few minutes. Then find the professional doctor’s help.

Every 100 Hours When manipulating with the accumulators, keep these regulations !!!

Don’t turn the accumulators, the electrolyte can flush away from deaeration accumulator leaks.

When spilled the acid (electrolyte), wash the afflicted place by water and neutralize by lime.

When recharging the accumulators, the hydrogen is released and raising with the mixture with air the explosive, easily combustible mixture. Don’t manipulate with the naked fire, naked light, don’t smoke.

Don’t provide actions producing the sparks. Don’t manipulate with conductors and electrical devices and instruments – it can cause the sparks.

Is prohibited to check the live wire by sparking on the machine’s ground.

If you do any repairs on the recharging circuit, disconnect the accumulator to prevent the acci-dental shorts.

When dismounting, disconnect the minus pole cable first (-), then the plus (+).

Disconnection of the accumulators have not be done under the engine is on.

When stained the skin or clothes by the electroly-te, wear off the clothes, wash the afflicted places by soap water or by the cooking soda and water solution find the doctor’s help.

The accumulator battery must e connected with the “minus” pole to the ground and “plus” pole to alternator output “B+”. Reverse connection can cause the damage of whole semiconductor device.

When consume the electrolyte, drink the maximal amount of milk or water, the solution of burnt flash powder with water, immediately find the doctor’s help.

Alternator must not be started for idle run - it is with disconnected cable from the “B+” grip and connected “D+” grip.

Never replenish with the distilled water the cells, if there is not any following work with the machine or recharging out of the machine. It can cause increased discharge of the accumulator.

Never replenish the acid (H2SO 4 ).

When starting using the auxiliary power supply is prohibited to disconnect that supply sooner than the machine accumulators are connected.

Watch out for the starting voltage of auxiliary power supply (for 12 V).

Before welding on the machine, the cables from “B+” and “D+” alternator grips must be disconnected.

Cleaning of the cartridge:

Forbidden procedures!

Use only dry cleaning with compressed air. Pressure may not exceed 5 bars (72 PSI). Apply air at an angle from inside out.

Never use damaged cartridge.

Do not remove cartridge just for its inspection.

Do not judge soiled cartridge by its looks only.

Do not leave the filter open longer than absolutely necessary.

Do not use filter with a damaged lid of housing.

Do not clean the cartridge by knocking on it.

Use only original approved cartridge.

Do not clean using fluid cleaner.

Inspection of motor vacuum manifold:

The cartridge may be cleaned no more than 5 times before being replaced by a new one. It must be also replaced after one year of use.

• Inspect the rubber knee (1) and hose (2) for tears, and missing clamps (3).

• Check the installation of the air filter (4).

Note each cleaning on the lid.

If the cartridge is soiled by carbon particles, it must be replaced, since cleaning is not possible.

After cleaning check that the cartridge has not been damaged (use light). If damaged it must be replaced.

We recommend that at least one spare cartridge is on hand. Damaged cartridge is not effective and may cause damage to the motor.

Correct procedures for the replacement of the cartridge:

Remove the old cartridge very carefully.

Clean the inside of the filter housing in a manner that would not deposit dust inside the inlet pipe to the motor.

Clean the seating surface for the seal in the filter housing.

Inspect traces of dust in the old cartridge that indicate its tightness inside the filter housing.

Press the seal on the cartridge to see its flexibility.

•

Make sure that the seal sits tight.

•

Check connections and pipes to see if tight.

3.6.17. Replacing the oil filter cartridge

Replacing the oil filter cartrige after the initial 50 hours of operation and further change up every 200 hours of operation.

Detach the old oil filter cartrige with a filter wrench.

•

Apply a film of oil to the gesket for the new cartrige.

•

Assemble a new oil filter cartrige and enough tighten hand.

•

After the new cartrige has been replaced, chack oil leaks and add oil if necessary.

Stop the engine before changing the oil filter cartrige.

Check to see if radiator hoses are properly fixed every 200 hours of operation or six mounts, wihchever comes first.

If hose clamps are loose or water leaks, tighten hose clamp securely.

Replace hoses and tighten hose clamps securely, if radiator hoses are swollen, hardened or cracked.

If radiator hose is damaged or coolant leaks, overheats or severe burns could occur.

Allow engine to cool down sufficiently, oil can be hot and cause burns.

Unscrew the outlet plug (1) and let flow the rest of fuel out to prepared vessel.

Prevent fuel from leaking to ground.

Do not smoke or use open flame.

Stop the engine and disconnect the electrical machine’s installation.

Check the exhaust piping connection tightness.

Tightening moment of collective exhaust piping – 21 Nm.

3.6.27. Oil change in the vibrator

Do the oil change when the oil is warm.

Place the roller horizontally on solid, flat base.

Turn the carriages such way to set the outlet plug (1) to the lowest position.

Stop the engine and disconnect the electrical machine’s installation.

Place the appropriate vessel under outlet plug.

Unscrew both plugs and let the oil flow out.

Turn the drum with plug (1) to the top position.

Through the filling hole fill VH 170 - 1,2 l (0,31 gal US) or VH 180 - 1,5 l (0,39 gal US) of recommended engine oil according to chapter 3.2.

Check level of oil ofter dismantling of check plug (2).

Mount the plug.

Watch out for the burn ups when outflowing the hot oil.

Attend to ecology !!!

3.6.28. Replacing oil and filter in the hydraulic system

Drain oil when warm – not hot – below 50 °C (122°F).

Place the machine on a flat, firm and horizontal base.

Clean the filter (4) thoroughly - check „O“ seal ring (5).

Clean the bottom of the seating area of the filtration block (6).

Insert new cartridge (3) in the filter housing and reinstall. Tighten using torque 40+10 Nm (30+7 lb ft).

Stop the motor and disconnect electrical wiring.

Clean thoroughly and open the hydraulic tank lock.

Remove draining plug of the oil tank (1), catch oil to a ready vessel. The content is 35 liters (9,25 gal US) gallons).

Remove filter container (2) with the filter cartridge (3) using wrench 36; take the cartridge out.

Exchange suction strainer:

Dismantle cover (1) suction strainer (2).

•

Check the inside of the tank. Carefully clean the bottom and flush it with new oil if there are any impurities at the bottom.

For dismantled the entire upper cover, use a new Teflon sealing strip (3).

Dismantle suction strainer (2). Wash the suction strainer in gasoline and blow the strainer with pressure air from inside.

Check the condition of the suction strainer; replace the strainer in case of damaged filter part. Mount the strainer to the suction pipe.

Filling hydraulic system

Every 1500 Hours

Fill with equipment, with filter density 3÷10 µm.

•

Start the motor, adjust RPM to 1300 and test all functions until all loops are full.

Check for leaks, add oil to level MAX, close the tank.

Fill through filler neck (1) with specified type of new oil to 3.2.4, to maximum of about 35 liters (9,25 gal US) gallons).

Attention!

1

If the machine is filled in a different manner (manual filling and can), change intervals must be halved (1000 hours or 1 year).

Use this filling process only in emergency – it is not recommended by the manufacturer.

On hydro-engines, hydro-generators fault, that cause the destruction of inner aggregates parts, is necessary to clean the hydraulic tank inside and remove the mechanical impurities before mounting the new aggregate. This professional work must do the worker trained on the hydraulics branch only.

When working, keep the cleanness – avoid the contamination of the system by agents that can cause damage of important aggregates !

For cleaning use the cleaning means without staples.

The vessels with new hydraulic oil close (cover) – they can be contaminated, penetrated by water and so on.

Don’t open the hydraulic tank unnecessarily!

When changing the oil operate due to the ecological instructions and the hygienic principles !

Keep the fire regulations !

When out-flowing the hot oil, watch out for possibility of burn ups.

Use recommended filters only.

Use recommended foils only due to chap. 3.2.4.

Catch the outflowing oil, don’t let it suck in to the ground.

Don’t over-tighten the filter, it can cause the worm and packing damage.

Used filters store in the individual container and manipulate with them such way to prevent the pollution of the environment.

3.6.29. Cleaning the sepator •

Set the machine on a firm, flat surface.

Stop the motor and disconnect electrical wiring.

•

During cleaning follow ecological and sanitary rules.

Adhere to fire precautions.

Loosen the plug at the fuel separator bottom and drain sediment.

Clean tank in well-ventilated rooms without danger of fire!

Prevent fuel from leaking to ground.

Do not smoke or use open flame.

Flush the tank with streaming water, close the valves of the water drain (2), (3).

If needed to clean heavy soiling, remove tank off the machine and flush thoroughly with water.

Flush the can and the sieve clean and reinstall.

Fill the tank with clean water. (See. 3.6.8. - Refilling the sprinkling water tank) The tank and sprinkling system empty always before the temperature drop below 0 °C (32 °F) !

After drain of water from tank unscrew filter and keep running pump for 4 sec.

Drain valves close and assembly filter before new filling.

3.6.31. Adjustment of scrapers

The machine must be level on firm and straight ground.

Stop the motor, raise the hood and disconnect electrical wiring.

•

Adjustment of blade tension

Loosen bolts (1) on the scraper's bracket (2), on both sides of the scraper.

Press the brackets of the scraper to the drum as required, and tighten bolts (1).

After ending the works clean the machine from main impurities.

The complete cleaning do regularly minimal once per week. When working on cohesive grounds, cement and lime stabilizations must be the complete cleaning done daily.

Don’t use the aggressive and easily inflammable cleaning agents (e.g. petrol and/or easily flammable agents).

Do the work under engine set down.

When using the steam cleaner don’t expose the electrical parts or insulation material to direct steam stream. Always cover such materials. Disconnect the accumulator’s disconnector !

Before cleaning the machine by pressure water cleaners, by steam and so on, daze all holes where is the possibility of contamination by the cleaning agent (e.g. engine suction hole, inner alternator space and so on). After cleaning the machine remove the dazes.

The machine washing do on places equipped with catchments for catching the waste water.

Replacing the blades

Remove bolts (3) and blade (4) with strips (5).

•

Replace blade (4) and reinstall.

•

Adjust blade tension.
