1.1. Basic Data Introduction

Modifications

Single drum vibratory rollers of line VV 700, VV 910 are outstanding by their up-to-date design, adopted technologies, as well as modern styling. These machines offer maximal comfort to the operator, are easy to operate, extremely reliable and require minimal maintenance. The utilized frequency, amplitude and centrifugal force of vibration were optimized by means of compaction tests to reach extra high compaction effect on various materials.

The single drum vibratory roller VV 700 D with the smooth drum is suitable for compaction of all kinds of soil.

It can be employed at compaction of clayey soils up to the layer thickness (compacted) of 15 cm (5,9 in), loam soils up to the layer thickness of 25 cm (9,8 in), mixed soils up to the layer thickness of 35 cm (13,8 in), sandy soils and gravels up to the layer thickness of 45 cm (17,7 in). The roller is suitable for compaction of stabilized soils as well.

Application Range

The single drum vibratory roller VV 700 DH with the smooth drum . Modification of machine with higher traction power. The machine is made for permanent operation on slopes over 30% in extreme conditions. Compaction effect is identical with VV 700 D.

The vibratory rollers of VV 700, VV 910 line are especially suitable for use at mid- and small compaction jobs of highway construction (construction of roads, railways, field path), and civil engineering (industrial areas, embankment etc.).

The rollers are designated for operation under conditions as according to IEC 721-2-1 (038900): WT, WDr, MWDr (i.e. moderate, warm dry, hot dry) with temperature limits from -15°C (5°F) to +45°C (113°F).

The padfoot roller VV 700 PD (where the vibratory and masticating effect act simultaneously) is suitable mainly for compaction of clayey soils up to the layer thickness (compacted) of 20 cm (7,9 in), loam soils up to the layer thickness of 25 cm (9,8 in), and mixed soils up to the layer thickness of 35 cm (13,8 in).

Compaction effect is identical with VV 700 PD. The padfoot roller VV 700 PDB, VV 700 PDBH with the dozing blade is designated compaction as the VV 700 PD, VV 700 PDH roller and enables also spreading of dumped material.

The single drum vibratory roller VV 910 D with the smooth drum is suitable for compaction of all kinds of soil.

It can be employed at compaction of clayey soils up to the layer thickness (compacted) of 20 cm (7,87 in), loam soils up to the layer thickness of 30 cm (11,8 in), mixed soils up to the layer thickness of 40 cm (15,7 in), sandy soils and gravels up to the layer thickness of 50 cm (19,6 in). The roller is suitable for compaction of stabilized soils as well.

Operation Manual The vibrating tractor roller consists of two sections connected by a hinge the drum section and the tractor section

2.1.1.

Drum section

The section consists of a frame (1), in which vibrating drum (2) with travel and vibration drive is mounted on a shock absorber.

The ratio of the cushioned and vibrating mass of the front part of the machine has been designed to achieve the highest compacting effect.

The drum frame(1) is connected in front by a carrier beam. Scrapers (3) are installed on the beam and the rear cross beam of the drum frame.

Vibration drum (2) is welded of steel plates. Roller bearings are mounted in the lids and the inside flanges of the drum, with two vibration exciters. These are interconnected by a shaft. Lubrication is provided by grease fill.

Each exciter consists of two sections, and allows for a choice of two eccentric torques by selecting mutual position through change of the sense of shaft turning.

The drum is seated in bearings near the left lid of the drum and in bearings of travel gears.

The drum vibration has a choice of two amplitudes and two frequencies. Large amplitude and low frequency are used for compacting materials of high thickness, low amplitude and high frequency for small thickness and layers sensitive to compacting.

2.1.3.

Tractor section

Tractor section consists of the tractor frame, axle, driving system, fuel and hydraulic tanks, hood, and driver s station.

Tractor frame (5) is a welded assembly with a plate for mounting the hinge in front, axle casing for the mounting of gears in the middle, and the fuel tank and battery holder in the rear. Holes for mounting the hydraulic tank, the driver s station, and the ROPS protective frame are in the upper part of the frame.

Axle (6) contains two gears with wheels, which are mounted on the axle casing of the tractor frame.

Driving aggregate consists of engine (13) with the clutch, and the driving (18) and vibration (19) hydraulic generator. The driving aggregate is mounted on the frame of the machine on shock absorbers (32). The hydraulic generator of power steering is mounted on the side of the engine. The engine radiator (15) is combined with the equalizing tank (33) and the hydraulic oil cooler (14), and is located in front of the engine. The equalizing tank complements the fluid content in the engine radiator.

Air entering the engine is cleaned in a two-stage dry air filter (21) with automatic discharge of the advance dryer.

Exhaust gases exit the engine through muffler (20).

Scrapers (3) serve the removal of soil stuck to the drum surface, and are adjustable.

2.1.2.

Hinge

The hinge(4) connects both sections of the roller. It contains a large size bearing (1) with cross rollers and two vertical pins (2), which allows for mutual positioning of both sections in vertical and horizontal levels.

2.1. Description of the Machine Fuel tank (7) is the rear part of the tractor frame. It has a cleaning lid, fuel level sensor, input and drain throat. The tanking throat has a lock and venting valve.

The oil level mark is on the rear side.

Drain valve (2) is at the bottom of the tank, Hydraulic tank (10) is mounted on the machine frame behind the driver s station. The cleaning lid has the input throat with a sieve (2), hydraulic oil level sensor (3), and a flange with a suction basket (4).

Operation Manual A block with the thermometer of hydraulic oil (1) is part of the tank. The block contains the safety valve of the cooling system and the thermostat that maintains optimal temperature of hydraulic oil in the loop at 45 ÷ 60 °C (113 ÷ 140 °F). The cooler is eliminated at low temperature of oil.

In the return path, the hydraulic tank has a siphon that prevents oil from leaking out of the tank during repairs.

Hydraulic system. The travel drive consists of the regulating piston hydraulic generator in a closed loop with two hydraulic motors for the drive of the wheels, and one hydraulic motor for the drive of the vibrating drum.

Vibration drive consists of a regulated piston hydraulic generator and a constant hydraulic motor.

The hydraulic loop is cleaned by the suction basket on the suction flange (4) inside the tank and by pressure filter (1) on the frame.

In the twin-amplitude roller the change in operating frequency and eccentric torque is achieved by reversing the pressure fluid and changing the amount of flow at the same time.

Steering is performed by a linear hydraulic motor mounted to the hinge and the tractor frame, controlled by hydraulic power steering. The tooth hydraulic generator is the source of pressure fluid.

The hydraulic loop includes also a hydraulic oil cooler.

2.1. Description of the Machine Driver’s station (17) The station consists of a dashboard and a driver’s seat.

The cabin or safety railing is mounted separately on the platform, which is attached to the frame through shock absorbers preventing vibrations from being transferred onto the driver from the vibrating drum. Operating and control elements are located on the dashboard and the control panel to the right of the seat.

The cabin has service lights and rearview mirrors on both sides. Lockable doors may be opened by a gas-operated lever. Upper parts of windows are sliding. The ceiling fan ventilates the cabin and may be adjusted by suitable positioning of the jets in the ceiling panel. Front and rear windows have windshield wipers and washers. Air jets connected to the heater prevent fogging up. The cabin may be custom equipped with air-conditioning.

The construction of the cabin roof protects the driver against small falling objects, such as gravel, bricks, tools etc., and complies with regulations for level I. Complies with standards ISO 3449:1992 SAE J 231: JAN 81 AS 2294:1990

Hood (12) is mounted to the frame behind the driver’s station, and lifts by two linear hydraulic motors towards the cabin.

The roof may be reinforced by the FOPS cover protecting the driver from large falling objects, such as stones, and complies with regulations for level II. Compliance with standards ISO 3449 : 1992 SAE J 231: JAN 81 AS 2294: 1990 Details are listed on label below the rear windshield.

Operation Manual Electrical installation consists of two batteries one alternator, and other operating and control devices. Operating voltage is 24 V. The negative terminal is connected directly to the chassis through.

Protective frame ROPS (9) is a construction that protects the driver in case of the machine turning over, and complies with international requirements for the protection of the driver specified in standards EN 500-4:1995; ISO 3471:1994; SAE J 1040:APR88; AS 2294:1990; for maximum weight of machines up to 13200 kg (29101 lb). The frame data are shown on label.

Disconnect that switches on and off electric circuits of the machine.

2.2. Safety Regulations 2.2.1.

Safety Regulations and Instruction for Operation of the Machine

The safety regulations stated in the individual chapters of the documentation delivered with the machine are to be complemented with safety regulations valid for the respective country of use and on the respective jobsite with regards to organization of work, work processes and personnel.

Operation Manual 2.2.1.2. Operation in an imperiled area Whatever damage to service networks must be reported immediately to the operating company, simultaneously, access by unauthorized persons to the imperiled area must be limited.

No worker must be left alone whenever there is no other worker in sight that could provide or call for help, unless another effective method of control and contact has been installed.

2.2.1.1. Beginning of Compaction Works •

The contractor (the company which operates the machine) is obliged to issue regulations for operation and maintenance of the machine, which must contain also the requirements for safety of work.

Before the work is started, it is necessary to check: -

location of engineering networks

-

underground spaces (direction, depth)

-

suction and/or escape of dangerous agents

-

bearing power of soil, inclination of the work area

These facts must be communicated to the machine s operator designated to carry out the work.

•

It is necessary to issue a technological procedures for the actual work activity, which would set up: -

measurements for operation under exceptional conditions (work in protective zones, at extreme slopes, etc.);

-

measurements for protection from the forces of nature;

-

requirements for operational safety;

-

technical and organizational measurements for securing safety of personnel, jobsite and the surrounding area.

The technological procedures must be communicated to the machine s operator.

2.2. Safety Regulations 2.2.1.3. Work safety precepts on behalf of the operator

When using ROPS frame

•

the driver must wear safety belts

The operator • must make sure that the machine is operated only under conditions and for the purpose to which the machine has been designed as defined by the manufacturer and applicable standards,

•

the safety belt and its anchors must not be defective

•

the machine frame in the spot of connection must not be damaged (broken bent, etc.)

•

the ROPS frame itself must not be corroded, damaged, or show any hair fractures or breaks,

•

the ROPS frame must not be loose during operation,

•

all screw connections must be as specified and tightened to the specified torque,

•

the bolts must not be damaged, deformed, and/or corroded,

•

the ROPS frame must not be modified without the manufacturer s approval, since its firmness could be affected (such as holes, welds, etc.),

•

the weight of the machine with the protective frame may not exceed approved weight for which the ROPS has been approved.

•

•

must make sure that the vibration roller is used only under such conditions and in such locations where there is no danger of transmitting vibrations and causing damage to nearby structures, etc., must provide for regular inspection of operations, technical conditions, for regular maintenance at intervals specified in the Instructions for Maintenance and Lubrication. In cases of noncompliance to such degree that would endanger safe operation, personnel, property, and the environment, the machine must be removed from operations until the defects have been corrected,

•

must define who may perform specific functions during operations, maintenance, and repairs of the machine,

•

everybody who drives, maintains, and repairs the machine must be acquainted with the rules listed in the Operation Manual for the machine

•

must provide for the fire extinguisher to be checked regularly,

•

must store the Operations Manual and the Operations Diary in the defined location, the seat box, to be available to the driver at all times

•

must provide a steady supervision by a defined worker during operations on public roads, and in particular must issue work safety regulations,

•

must provide for the removal of dangerous matters (fuel, oil, cooling fluid, etc.) from spots of leakage in line with their nature to prevent any adverse effect on the environment, work safety and health of personnel.

Requirements for the competence of the driver

The roller may be operated by a driver, who has been trained to ISO 7130 and other local and national regulations and standards for drivers of this category Only such person may drive the machine without proper certification that is being instructed with the owner’s permission in operating the machine under a direct supervision of a special instructor for the purpose of gaining preliminary skills.

The roller can be driven by the workman who is physically and mentally capable to drive a roller, who is older than 18 years, and who is as follows:

a) entrusted by the machine manufacturer for the assembly, testing and demonstration of the machine, and/or instructing drivers, while having been instructed himself in work safety regulations applicable to the site

•

b) designated by the builder for the operation (maintenance), evidently trained and instructed, and/or having professional training in operating and driving according to special regulations (machinist certificate, etc.)

The driver’s duties

Before the start of operations, the driver must become acquainted with instructions published in the machine documentation, particularly with safety rules, and adhere to them. This applies also to personnel entrusted with maintenance, adjustments and repairs. If some sections of the manuals are not clear enough, contact the nearest dealer or the manufacturer.

The driver may not drive the machine unless fully cognizant of all functions of the machine, its working and controlling elements, and unless he knows exactly how to operate the machine.

The driver must comply with all safety signs placed on the machine, and keep them in legible state.

Before the start of operations the driver must become acquainted with the site, its obstacles, slopes, service network, and required types of working site protection regarding noise, vibration, etc.

When a situation arises endangering health, lives, property, during defects of technical nature, and/or when signs are present indicating such possibilities during operations, unless the driver can remove the danger by himself, he must cease his work and secure the machine against involuntary start, report to his supervisor, and advise all persons imperiled by the situation.

The driver must become acquainted before the start of the machine with records of operating deviations made by the preceding shift.

The driver must inspect the machine before starting work, accessories, control elements, information and safety equipment, whether functional as instructed.

Should he not be able to correct by himself a defect affecting work safety, he may not start the machine, and must report the defect to his supervisor.

Should the driver discover a defect during work, he must stop the machine immediately, and secure it against involuntary start During operations the driver must monitor the machine and record defects in the operation diary.

The driver must keep up to date the operation diary, which serves the purpose of recording transfers of the machine between drivers, defects and repairs during operation, and important events during the shift.

Prior to starting the engine, the control levers must be in neutral, nobody may be present in the vicinity of the machine.

The driver informs of the startup by audible or visual signals always before the start of the engine.

The driver must check brakes and steering before operations.

2.2. Safety Regulations •

Following the warning signal the operator may start the machine first after all personnel have left the vicinity of the machine. On a difficult to oversee site the machine may be started after a certain time allowed for vacating it.

Observe all safety notices under all circumstances - danger of death.

•

The driver must follow safety regulations, not perform actions affecting work safety, and fully attend work on hand.

Observe safety notices - danger of personal injury.

•

He must have regard for the work process and/or instructions given by the supervisor.

•

The speed of the machine must be adjusted to the condition of the grounds, the operation, and the weather, and the site must be observed to avoid meeting an obstacle.

•

When the operator leaves the machine unattended at the end of an operation or its interruption, he must secure the machine against unauthorized use and incidental startup by removing ignition key, locking the cabin door, and switching off electrical circuits.

•

After the operation has been finished, the machine must be parked on a flat and firm ground in a stable position off public roads and out of reach of falling objects (soil) and natural dangers like floods, landslides, etc.

•

When the machine is parked on public roads, it must be done according to regulations applicable to public roads. The machine must be provided with proper signs.

•

Following operations the machine s defects and repairs must be recorded in the operations diary. The driver of the next shift must be made aware of existing situation.

•

The driver must use personal protective means dress and shoes. The dress may not be too loose and torn; hair must be protected by a suitable head covering.

Hands must be protected by suitable gloves for maintenance (lubrication, handling fluids).

•

The driver must wear headsets effective against noise levels of 90 dB on a machine without cabin.

•

He must keep accessories as prescribed.

•

He must keep his station, steps and stepping points clean.

•

Before lifting the cabin or hood, he must check for free space and electrical wiring in the area, and make sure that nobody is in danger when refolding the cabin and closing the hood.

While maintenance, cleaning or repairs are in progress, hang up notice board no. 15 (see Chapter 2.2.5) on the outside on the handle of the left cabin door,

•

touch moving parts of the machine bodily or by hand holding tools,

•

smoke and handle open flame during inspection and tanking fuel, changing or adding oil, lubrication, checking and topping battery,

•

carry on the machine in the cabin or under the hood rags soaked in flammable fluids and flammable fluids in open cans,

leave the engine running in closed rooms. Exhaust fumes are deadly.

2.4. Conservation and Storing 2.4.1.

Short-term storage of 1 to 2 months

Wash and clean the machine thoroughly. Warm up the engine to operating temperature before starting conservation for storage. Place the machine on a firm and flat surface in a secure location where there is no danger of damaging the machine by forces of nature like floods, landslides, fire, etc.

2.4.2.

Conservation and storage for more than 2 months

Same rules for short-term storage apply here as well, moreover,

•

remove batteries, check condition and store in a dry, cool room recharge battery regularly,

then • repair any defective lacquer

•

support the drum frame so that the shock absorbing system is not loaded,

•

grease all lubrication places, cables, lever elbows, etc.

•

protect rubber components with a layer of special conservation preparation

•

check that water tanks are drained

•

•

check whether the refrigerant is frost resistant

inflate tires to prescribed pressure and protect them against direct sunshine

•

check the charge of batteries and recharge if necessary

•

cover chrome plated surface of pistons with conservation grease

•

cover chrome plated surface of pistons with conservation grease

•

•

for conservation spray the machine with a special preparation particularly in places subject to possible corrosion

we recommend to protect the machine against corrosion by spraying it with conservation means, mainly in spots endangered by corrosion.

cover exhaust and intake of the engine with double PE foil and sticky tape over it

protect headlights, outside rearview mirrors and other electrical components outside by spraying over them special preparation and covering with PE foil,

•

conserve the engine as instructed by manufacturer and leave a sign that the engine has been conserved.

A machine that has been treated in this manner doesn t require any special processing before next use.

We recommend that you inspect the conservation condition. After 6 months inspect and renew if necessary.

Do not start the engine while stored!

If the machine is stored outside, check whether the site is not in danger of being flooded in case of bad weather or endangered in any other way.

Before starting operations again, wash off conservation with high-pressured hot water with ordinary degreasing means added as directed, while observing environmental rules.

Operation Manual Steering wheel (1) for steering the machine.

! NOTE !

For travel without vibration set revolutions to the optimum 1800 RPMs for safe steering.

Travel control (2) Set direction and speed by the control. The speed is proportional to the setting of the lever from neutral. It also serves as parking and operating brake. The lever is fixed in the set position.

The neutral position (0) is signaled by indicator (28). After setting the lever to neutral, parking brake is automatically activated after 3 seconds, and the indicator lights up (21).

If the lever is shifted fast, within 3 seconds, through the neutral position, such as at normal operations (reversing), the braking effect of the roller doesn t take place. When the lever is moved from neutral to forward or back, the brake indicator goes off (21) together with the brake-off pressure, and the machine starts moving. The vibration switch (47) is located in the handle of the controller. The switch turns vibration on and off. A timing circuit releases brakes automatically, when the steering wheel is turned while the machine is standing still (protection of hydraulic motor brakes wheel skids).

Transport speed gearshift (3) It allows shifting of transport speed of the machine. With the shift on, the transport speed is shifted in and the indicator rabbit is on. Travel control (2) may change transport speed continually from zero to maximum in both directions. Lower volume of hydraulic motors is utilized in driving the machine up to its maximum speed. Pulling force and ability to overcome a slope are lowered.

With the gearshift off the working speed mode is set. Full volume of hydraulic motors is utilized for driving the machine with full pulling force and full ability to overcome slopes.

! NOTE !

Engage gearshift – transport speed - for the transport of the machine on the site on roads, - for the transport of the machine between the working site and loading or unloading locations During transport at long distances provide for cooling of breaks every three hours. Stop machine for one hour. By non-adherence to this regulation the machine may be damaged and subject to warranty default.

The gearshift may be turned on only under load.

! NOTE !

The engine may be started only in neutral.

Vibration may not be switched on in neutral. The bearings of the vibrator are not lubricated when standing still.

With insufficient pulling force turn the transport gearshift off.

It is not permitted to engage the gearshift during operations!

It is not permitted to disengage the gearshift at higher speeds – the machine slows down suddenly and the hydraulic system suffers a shock.

Turn the shift off while the machine is standing still or moving slowly.

Operating speed pre-selector (4)

The pre-selector can select under load three operating speeds in both directions, Fig. 20. Maximum available speeds in pre-selector positions 1 to 3 correspond to normal operating speeds for compacting and are preset by the manufacturer. Maximum pulling force (climbing ability) may be reached in position 3 .

In case of defect when the machine cannot be stopped by shifting the travel lever (2), the emergency brake must be applied by pushing button (6). Then the roller stops, the engine as well, and indicator (21) lights up. Brakes are released by turning push button in the direction of the arrow.

Pre-selector (4) works only with shift (3) off.

When the emergency brake button is depressed, the engine cannot be started.

Use pre-selector positions 1 and 2 on flat grade only.

Use pre-selector position 3 on sloping grades.

Gas lever (5) The lever adjusts the revolutions of the engine from idle to maximum. Revolutions increase with the lever moving down, and vice versa. The lever is connected by a cable to the control lever of the engine injection pump. A switch is located on the lever casing for switching vibrations only at engine revolutions of 1800 RPM. At lower revolutions vibration cannot be switched on.

Switch box (7) has three positions, 0 , I , and II . In position 0 all appliances fused by F1, F2, and F3 are on, in position I all other appliances are connected. Spring loaded position II is for starting the machine. The engine stops by turning the key to position 0 where it can be removed.

Engine thermometer (9) indicates the temperature of engine coolant. The temperature should be normally less than 100 °C (212 °F).

Remove the key when leaving the roller!

If it is higher than 100 °C (212 °F) loading on the engine must be lowered and the engine must cool down.

On machines without cab remove the key and close the lid on the switch box to protect it against moisture and dirt.

Hydraulic oil thermometer (10) indicates operating temperature of hydraulic oil. The highest permitted value is 90 °C (194 °F) for oils of viscosities HV 68 and HV 100. Optimal operating temperature is 50 - 60 °C (122 - 140 °F).

Working hours counter (11) indicates number of hours for which the engine has been running. When the battery charging indicator (20) goes off, the counter starts counting time. Counting of hours is independent of the engine revolutions.

Revolutions indicator (13) indicates engine revolutions per minute.

Starting the engine Before starting the engine check daily the level of oil in the engine and hydraulic tank, coolants in the loop, fuel in the fuel tank.

Check also tire inflation.

Check loose parts, worn or missing parts.

Start the engine only from the driver’s station!

Before starting the engine turn on warning horn and check whether there could be anybody endangered!

Starting sequence • Switch on battery disconnect.

Insert key in switch box (15) and turn to position I .

Engine lubrication indicator (22), brake indicator (21), and charging indicator (26) light up.

Check that the travel lever (2) is in neutral 0 neutral indicator (28) should be on.

•

Check that the STOP push button (6) of the emergency brake is not depressed.

Set gas control (5) to slightly higher revolutions (1/4 of travel of the lever).

Do not load the engine to full power before it reaches a temperature of 60 °C (140 °F).

Do not idle for more than 5 minutes!

If the engine doesn’t start within 10 seconds, wait and repeat after 30 seconds.

When the engine has started, disconnect cables in reverse order.

Using auxiliary starting with the battery disconnected, do not disconnect before the battery of the machine has been connected.

Do not connect (-)cable to discharged battery of the machine you want to start! During starting heavy sparking may occur and gases of the charged battery may explode.

Naked parts of the clips of the starting cables may not touch each other!

Starting cable connected to (+) pole of the battery must not touch conducting parts of the machine to avoid short-circuiting.

Do not lean over the batteries. The electrolyte may injure you!

Avoid the presence of source of fire – open flame, cigarettes, etc.

Do not check for the presence of voltage in the cable by sparking against the chassis!

Travel and backing-up Indicate by audible signal the start of the machine and wait long enough for persons nearby to leave the space near or underneath the machine in time!

Before starting moving make sure that the space ahead and behind the machine is free and that nobody is present there!

Switch the speed lever (3) off- it presets working speed.

Select suitable range of working speed on the preselector of working speed (4).

•

Set engine revolution to about 1800.min 1 (RPM).

Check that vibration is not switched on (47), and that control indicator (26) is not on.

Move travel lever (2) from neutral in the required direction - a small move means low speed. With the movement of the travel lever (2), both the brake indicator (21) and neutral indicator (28) go off.

Engage gearshift (3) - transport speed - may be done for transport on the site on roads for the transport of the machine between the working site and loading or unloading locations.

During travel at long distances provide for cooling of breaks every three hours. Stop machine for one hour. By non-adherence to this regulation the machine may be damaged and subject to warranty default.

The gear (icon ”rabbit” lights up) may be shifted only under load.

Do not use gas control (5) to control machine speed.

In case of emergency, particularly on a slope, stop the machine immediately by pressing the parking brake pushbutton (46) after the travel lever was shifted to neutral.

Prior to travel down a steep slope shift to working speed by switching off shift (3)!

If the pulling force is insufficient, switch gearshift (3) of transport speed off.

It is not permitted to disengage gearshift at higher speeds – the machine slows down suddenly and the hydraulic system suffers a shock.

If the travel control stays in position ”0” for more than 3 seconds, the machine brakes automatically.

2.7.7.

Machine travel in a difficult terrain

For travel in a difficult terrain or on a slope when the wheels or the drum start sliding through, switch on (43).

Thereafter, switch it off. The illuminated indicator in the switch signals the activation and correct function.

Avoid riding the machine across a slope - there is a danger of rolling over. Always ride the machine straight up and down a slope with high inclination.

Before starting the engine check the position of the travel control (2) in ”0” and the brake by button (6).

Travel of machine with differential lock ASC

l The differential lock ASC prevents the wheels and the drum from sliding through on a difficult terrain or on a slope.

l The differential lock ASC is activated by turning the key in the switch box, and functions in both modes – working speed, transport speed - to full extent.

l As long as the ASC function is activated the pilot lamp (29) on the control panel is off. Flashing pilot lamp (29) indicates faulty ASC function. The machine is defective!

1. Automatic unlocking of the differential lock ASC:

l When the defect of the ASC system has become visible by the sensors on one of the rear wheels during travel the differential lock will be automatically unblocked within five seconds.

l If you stop the machine, switch off the motor, and start it again. Thereafter, one of the rear wheels will be blocked and the pilot lamp starts flashing (29).

l Thereafter, it is necessary to wait for five seconds during travel until the differential lock is automatically unlocked.

The machine remains defective!

l The majority of defects on the ASC system is not noticeable on the outside; only when the adhesion conditions have been extended, the drum or one of the driving wheels starts turning fast.

l The machine may function under that condition; it travels only in the working speed; the transport speed is automatically off as far as the machine protection is concerned.

l Only with faulty sensors on one of the rear wheels will the defect become visible by one of these wheels being locked during travel for five seconds.

l After five seconds of the limit locking the wheels during travel will the wheel be unlocked.

l If you stop the machine, switch the motor off and then

Installation sequence Remove scraper with holders for smooth drum.

Using lugs makes the machine more universal. The segments do not replace fully a drum with lugs type ”PD” though. The installation of this relatively heavy accessory decreases compacting efficiency of the roller and its travel up a slope. On clayish ground it may cause the drum to slip when backing up.

Recommendation The manufacturer recommends filling the wheels with fluid according to instructions when using segments. The use of a roller with ASC lock is to a great advantage.

The versions of machine „H” are equipped much better than the standard versions for climbing and passing through difficult terrain. However, a worse compacting effect than that of the ”PD” rollers is still there.

The use of segments may not exceed 1/3 of the total life of the machine, since lower life expectancy of hydraulic systems of the roller may be realized.

Attention!

ASC lock cannot be installed on the machine later; it must be ordered for delivery together with the new machine from the manufacturer.

The segments may be installed on the machine also additionally later.

Drive slowly forward for about 1,6 m (5,2 ft) to allow for the installation of the second segment. While driving, check the clamps so that they wouldn’t catch on the parts on the drum frame. Install the second segment to leave a space of about 26 mm (1,02 in) between segments.

After one hour of operations with vibration, check again the tightness of bolts to specified torque. Thereafter continue occasional checking of the tightness of bolts.

Filling procedure

Filling of tires with fluid increases traction effects of the machine during travel on a flat surface on such ground where it is difficult to pass through, and when backing up a slope.

The STA rollers have been designed so that normally the tires do not need to be filled with fluid.

Adding fluid to tires is recommended mainly on standard versions ”D” (smooth drum) as an inexpensive alternative providing slight improvement when passing through difficult grounds, and stability, when working under more difficult conditions, and as slight compensation for negative effects, when using segments on the D version.

Models VV 910 and VV 2510 are exceptions, where the fluid fill is part of the standard equipment of the machine.

For all other types the manufacturer may be requested to supply tires filled with fluid even for work at low ambient temperatures. Such fill may be accomplished in the field as follows:

Wedge the drum from both sides, lift the rear section of the roller, and release brakes on the hydraulic motors of the wheels, see Chapter 2.8.5.

2.8.1.

Transportation of the machine on public roads

Operation Manual During driving up and down the transporting vehicle, all persons but the driver must be away from the machine in such a distance that they cannot be injured in case of an accident (fall of the machine).

The machine must be attached to the transporting vehicle by tying ropes on tying spots. Tying spots: front and rear lifting eyes, front and rear towing lugs and slings in side plates of the drum frame.

When transporting the machine on public roads, the regulations governing public road traffic must be followed.

During the actual transport, no persons may stay on the driver’s stand, on the machine or on the transporting vehicle platform.

! NOTE !

The standard version of the machine is not equipped with facilities to travel on public roads - traveling on public roads is forbidden!

Hooking at a Carrier Vehicle

• The roller can be transported on public roads on a vehicle of appropriate load capacity and the platform height so as not to exceed the total height of 4 m (with the roller loaded). Should the height be higher, it is necessary to dismantle cabin and safety frame - see chapter 2.8.4.

Use switch (43) to turn on drum traction slip control when driving up the transporting vehicle. It is recommended to underlay drum with rubber strips or wooden planks etc.

The vehicle transporting the roller must be braked for loading and unloading and mechanically secured against undesirable movements by scotch blocks.

The person guiding the machine must communicate with the driver by prescribed communication signals, he/she must stand all the time on the same location, away from the machine and the transporting vehicle.

He/she must be within the field of driver’s vision (visual contact) for all the time of driving up and down.

In case of defect, the machine may be towed for an absolutely necessary distance only. The machine is equipped with two tow loops. The rear loop on the fuel tank has a pin and a safety against release. By lifting this safety the pin may be removed.

Because of seepage the pressure in the brakes may drop during towing.

When towing the roller, check, if the brakes do not get warm because of insufficient releasing. When the brakes of gears, hydromotors are released and the hydraulic circuit short-circuited, no braking system is available! All the service, emergency and parking brakes are out of operation!

Place the hydraulic generator handle (78) into the holder under the driver’s seat.

For towing use undamaged ropes or tow bars of sufficient capacity 1.5 x higher than the weight of the towed vehicle. Do not use a chain for towing!

Nobody may be on the vehicle that is being towed with non-functioning motor.

It is necessary to maintain the minimal deviation from the direct towing angle. Maximum deviation is possible within 30°.

Smooth and constant movement must be maintained in towing. Do not exceed towing speed by more than 2 km/hour (1.2 mph) and do not tow for more than 300 m (0.19 miles) The towing machine should correspond by its size to the damaged machine. It must have sufficient towing power, weight and braking effect.

When towing down hill an additional machine must be attached to the rear end of the machine. This way it is possible to prevent an inadvertent movement of the damaged machine.

Do not start the engine during towing.

These are general requirements for a safe towing of the machine under normal conditions. Any possibly different situation that could occur during towing must be consulted with the dealer.

Travel with vibration on the compacted and hard materials

By travel with the machine under vibrations, loss of thread contact with the compacted material (so called vibroimpact) could occur due to high ratio of the base material compaction or due to travel on hard materials (e.g. small rocks). That condition is occurs by transfer of vibrations to the machine frame and to the driver´s seat. Particularly, the effects can be removed by increasing the travel speed or by changing vibration values of the machine (using lower amplitude). The increased vibrations transfer to the driver s seat can occur also with the increased ratio of base compacted material.

If it is necessary to work with the machine under conditions where personnel can be exposed to increased vibrations, the supervisor must change the working process to avoid threats to driver’s health.

Note: When driving the machine on an other base material under vibrations than specified in the Specifications Manual - ygienical datas, the emision values of increasing the vibrations will be different.

Using the machine under severe weather conditions

2.9.2.1. Working at low temperatures Compacting in wintertime depends on the content of soft particles and water in the ground. With dropping temperature below zero the ground becomes firmer and more difficult to compact.

Should it be necessary to compact at temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F), it is possible to compact dry soils and gravel piles, or not yet frozen materials before the soil freezes solid.

With oil HV 100 in the hydraulic system, the machine may not be started at ambient temperatures below 2 deg. C (36 deg F).

Should it be required to start the machine during one month or more at ambient temperatures below –8 °C (18 °F),replace oil in the hydraulic system with oil of HV 46 viscosity.

2.9. Using the machine under special conditions 2.9.2.2. Work at elevated temperature and humidity The power of the engine decreases with higher temperature and humidity. Since both factors are independent of each other, their effect may be described as follows: - every 10 °C (50 °F) of temperature rise represents power decrease of up to 4% (with constant humidity) -

every 10 % of humidity increase represents power decrease of up to 2% (with constant temperature)

At high temperatures hydraulic oil remains constantly at 90 °C (194 °F). We recommend the oil to be replaced by oil one grade heavier kinetic viscosity of 100 mm 2/s (BP BARTRAN HV 100, ESSO UNIVIS N100, etc.)

3. Air – Conditioning system DESCRIPTION The heat is extracted out of the evaporator placed inside the cabin ( low-pressure circuit) and transferred to the environment at the condensator installed in front of the engine radiator ( high-pressure circuit). The compressor is drawing in coolant vapour from the evaporator and presses it into the condenser. Inside the condenser the coolant vapour is changing its gaseous state of aggregation to liquid) and flows through the filterdehydrator to the TEV thermoexpansion valve. TEV sprays the liquid coolant into the evaporator where the heat is extracted from the cabin milieu while contemporaneously the liquid state of aggregation is changed to from liquid to gaseous and the coolant vapours are sucked into the compressor.

Switching on the air conditioning system

On the evaporator panel two functions can be controlled temperature (TEM) and ventilation (AIR).

The air conditioning system is working with the machine engine running only.

TEMP temperature control - the temperature inside the cabin can be gradually adjusted by means of the revolving converter (1).

• Check the condensate removal from the evaporator clean out.

Every month: • Carry out visual check of the coolant fill Fig. 3.4 with the engine running. The inspection hole sight glass must be transparent. It must not be either dewed or misty, it must be without visible bubbles.

Maintenance as may be required: • Clean-out the condenser fins with compressed air or power water Fig. 3.7.

• Check up the stretch of the compressor belt. When

pressing down the longest part of the belt with a force of ca 3N (1,5 lbf) the belt deflexion must not exceed 10 15 mm ( 0,4 0,6 in).

• Clean-out the evaporator fins with compressed air.

3.5.

Safety Rules

The coolant is classified as a safe coolant but when leaking into the atmosphere its devaporation develops and touching the epidermis or mucuous membrane burns arise. In the presence of open fire toxical gases develop which can cause serious troubles, eventually death, if inhaled. Leaking inside limited spaces, the coolant vapours are pressing out oxygen and may cause death by asphyxiation.

•

Working near the airsonditioning system or directly inside it, it is necessary to use always goggles and protective gloves.

•

When cleaning the lamelas´ surfaces beware of possible wounds caused by aluminium lamelas.

First aid in case of contact with coolant

Should the eyes come into contact with the liquid coolant rinse eyes immediately with a large quantity of water and call immediately for medical help.

•

Should epidermis come into contact with coolant rinse the attacked place immediately with a rich quantity of warm water – not hot water. Protect the burn with a piece of dry sterile cotton. Call medical help.

•

In case of inhaling transfer the afflicted person to fresh air and regenerate breathing if the need be. Call for medical help.

4.1. Filling specifications 4.1.1.

Engine oil

Using high quality motor oil and correct change intervals are decisive factors for the life of the engine.

Quality Oils are classified according to performance class and quality grade. They are specified according to API (American Petroleum Institute) and CCMC (Committee of COMMON Market Automobile Constructors).

Acceptable oils are according to: API CE CCMC D5 In areas where oils of CE performance class are not available it is possible to use oils of CC or CD performance classes, although oil change intervals must be reduced by half.

Viscosity As oil changes its viscosity with temperature, for determining SAE (Society of automotive engineers) viscosity class ambient temperature and the mode of operation are critical.

Exceeding lower temperature limit Intermittently does not damage the engine; it may only cause starting problems.

Exceeding upper temperature limit should not last for long, taking into consideration reduced lubricating properties of oil.

It should be possible to use general-purpose multigrade oil so that oil does not have to be changed due to temperature changes.

All-season recommended oil is SAE 15W-40 (e.g. Cummins Premium Blue, Ambra Super Gold 500, M7ADSIII in the Czech Republic).

In winter, for easier start, use oil SAE 10W-30 at temperatures below -5°C (23°F).

Petroleum waxes are separated in the fuel system of the machine when using common Diesel fuel at low temperatures below 0°C (32°F). Separated petroleum waxes may cause defects, or even disable the machine. Therefore use winter Diesel fuel at ambient temperatures below 0°C (32°F). Distributors usually change Diesel fuel according to season. Special Diesel fuel with additives intended for very low temperatures must be used at ambient temperatures below -15°C (5°F) ( super Diesel ).

To achieve sufficient frost-resistance an additive for the improvement of fluidity may be mixed with the fuel (fuel additive). It is also possible to mix, for instance, kerosene with Diesel fuel to improve fluidity.

Common fuel for Diesel engines contains less than 0,5% of sulphur by weight. When using fuel with higher sulphur content - 0,5 to 1 % - it is necessary to reduce oil change intervals to half.

It is strictly required to use above specified brands of diesel fuel only. Usage of different fuel (like Bio-fuels,or Light heating oils of any kind) is strictly PROHIBITED.

4.1. Filling specifications 4.1.3.

! NOTE !

Hydraulic oil

For use in the hydraulic system of the machine, only high-quality hydraulic oils of output class according to ISO 6743/HV (equal to DIN 51524 part 3 HVLP; CETOP RP 91 H).

At high ambient temperatures, when the oil temperature reaches continual 90 °C (194 °F), we recommend replacing the oil with one of kinetic viscosity 100 mm2/s - HV 100 (BP BARTRAN HV 100; ESSO UNIVIS N 100, etc.)

The machines are filled with hydraulic oil of kinetic viscosity 68 mm 2/s at 40 °C (104 °F) ISO VG 68 by the manufacturer. This particular oil is suited for applications in the widest range of ambient temperatures.

Should it be required to start the machine at temperatures below –8 °C (18 °F) lasting more than one month, replace oil in the hydraulic system with one of kinetic viscosity 46 mm 2/s - viscosity class HV 46.

The hydraulic system may be filled with synthetic oil under the following conditions: PANOLIN - HLP Synth 15/22/32/68 is fully synthetic, high-performance oil classified according to VDMA 24´568 directive into HESS class. It complies with DIN 51524 parts 2 and 3. The requirements for ageing resistance are exceeded several times. In case of leakage oil is completely degraded by microorganisms present in water and soil.

During operation of the machine it is necessary to avoid mechanical contamination (wear, dust etc.). Oil must not exceed 17/14 contamination class (according to ISO 4406).

Operating fluid must be checked by taking samples in regular intervals - see the table. When taking samples it is necessary to follow rules specified by PANOLIN Company laboratory. The best solution is to have directly the PANOLIN Company take the sample.

When filling biologically fast-degradable oils, mixing with up to 2% of the total tank content is allowed.

Move from mineral oils to synthetic Such a change must be made according to VDMA 24´569.

4.1.6.

Coolant

Do not use more than 50% of antifreeze in the coolant , unless absolutely necessary.

Use coolant consisting of 40 - 60% of frost-resistant ethyl glycol agent and water according to Table all year-round for the cooling system of the engine. Use the coolant with antifreeze even in zones where temperatures do not fall below 0°C (32°F). The coolant is not only protecting the cooling system against frost but increases also the boiling point. Inhibitors contained in the antifreeze protect parts of the engine cooling system and extend their life.

Propylene antifreeze may also be used as coolants. The minimum content of ethyl glycol or propylene glycol antifreeze in the cooling unit is 40%. The cooling mixture is mixed with 40 - 50 % of antifreeze by manufacturer.

Prepare coolant by mixing the antifreeze with water.

Never use a ratio higher than 68%.

Antifreeze is manufactured in different bases.

Their mutual mixing is not recommended.

Anti-corrosive properties may be lost when mixing different types of coolants.

Nitric amines dangerous to health are formed when mixing the nitride-base antifreeze and the amine-base agent.

Check the ratio of antifreeze in the coolant before wintertime using a refract meter (hydrometer).

Do not use antifreeze aggressive to aluminum - it may cause corrosion of the radiator.

Use environmentally friendly antifreeze !

The antifreeze must contain anticorrosive agents protecting all materials (including rubber and head seals) of the cooling system. They must be low siliceous and must comply with testing criteria of ASTM 4985. The site must be equipped with portable fire extinguishers.

•

with the machine parts cooled off.

after cleaning the machine, the lubricating and maintenance points, and spots to be repaired.

Metal barrels, canisters or tin cans should be used for handling oils or Diesel fuel .

by replacing parts with new original ones. The manufacturer cannot be responsible for damages caused by using different units or parts.

Transport containers must be duly closed while being stored.

The containers must have one opening, they must always be stored with the opening upside and secured against leaks.

Operations performed while the engine is running (adjusting) must be performed with another person present. This person must have immediate access to the emergency stop and must be in permanent communication contact with the adjusting person so that the engine can be stopped immediately, if necessary.

Environmental and health regulations

4.2.3.2. Environmental principles

During operation and maintenance of the machines the user must follow general principles of health and environment protection, and laws, notices and regulations relating to this subject, applicable in the territory.

Contents of specific machine systems and some of its parts are wastes dangerous to the environment after when discarded (disassembly, changing contents).

4.2.3.1. Health regulations •

Oil products, contents of cooling systems and batteries, and paints including thinners are materials injurious to health. The workers coming into contact with these products when operating and maintaining the machine must follow general principles of health protection and safety and health instructions by manufacturers of these products.

We especially draw attention to: -

eyes and skin protection when working with batteries

-

skin protection when working with oil products, painting compounds and coolants

-

proper washing of hands after work and before meals. Treat your hands with proper skin cream

-

follow instructions in the operator s manual when working with cooling systems.

•

Store oil products, coolants and battery acids, painting compounds including organic thinners and cleaning and preservation agents always in their original, properly marked containers. Avoid storing these materials in unmarked bottles or other containers because of risk of possible substitutions. Possible substitution of food and beverages is particularly dangerous.

•

In case of accidental staining skin, mucous membranes, eyes, or in case of inhaling fumes, immediately apply first aid . In case of accidental ingestion of these products seek out medical help immediately.

•

Always use proper type and design of ear-protectors when working with the machine without cabin or with open windows.

This manual includes only basic information on the engine; the rest is provided in the operation and maintenance manual of the engine, which is a part of documentation supplied with the machine.

Disassembled or loose bolts, plugs, threaded connections of hydraulics etc. should be tightened with torque according to tables in chapter 4.6.39., unless a different value is listed for the particular operation.

! NOTE !

Follow instructions in the operation and maintenance manual for the engine!

After the first 100 working hours of the new machine or its general overhaul, do the following : 4.6.24. Replace oil for the first time in drum and axle gearboxes.

Checking and adding oil in the engine

The amount of oil between the dipstick marks is 0.95 liter (1.0 US Quart)

Place the roller on a flat, firm surface and stop the engine.

Wait approx. 5 min. until oil runs down the crankcase.

Add the identical type of oil. Use oils according to chapter 4.1.1.

Take out the oil dipstick (1), wipe it with a lint-free rag, reinsert fully and take it out again to read the level.

Check tightness of the engine and retighten if necessary.

Check the engine for damaged and missing parts and for changes in appearance.

Do not start the engine unless the oil level is correct.

Keep the level within the marks on the dipstick. The lower mark L (Low) marks the lowest possible oil level, the upper mark H (High) the highest one.

Collected dust is stored in the dust valve. It is emptied automatically during operation of the machine, if it operates properly.

Checking for clogging of hydraulic oil pressure filter

Capacity of the fuel tank is 275 l (72.5 US gallons). Capacity of the full fuel tank is approximately 27 hours of running the machine.

Use clean and recommended fuel only, according to chapter 4.1.2.

Check whether the indicator of hydraulic oil pressure filter (25) lights up at operation temperature of hydraulic oil in the range of 50-60°C (122 - 140°F).

•

Indicator (25) on, signals that the filter is clogged with contaminants and that it is necessary to be replaced.

Do not use up all fuel in the tank. In such case the entire fuel system must be vented, which is a rather tedious operation.

Do not smoke nor use open flame when working.

The machine will automatically stop, if the oil level falls below “MIN” on the oil-level gauge.

It is possible to restart the engine only after topping up oil in the hydraulic tank to the specified level. Thus the hydraulic system of the machine is protected and the operation is environment-friendly (in case of damage to the hydraulic hose, only a limited amount of oil would leak out, not the entire content of the hydraulic tank.).

In case of more extensive losses, find the location of hydraulic system leaks and repair the cause. Replace immediately damaged parts with new ones.

Add oil up to the level described in Section 4.6.28.

Add only clean hydraulic oil of the same kind as described in Section 4.1.3.

Reinstall removed parts.

The filling opening on the hydraulic tank has been sealed by the manufacturer. In case of defect during the warranty period call the Service Depot. Warranty becomes void if the seal has been broken.

Clean the area around the oil filter head.

Check the tightness of engine manifold.

•

Check for any damage of the rubber hose of the manifold leading from the filter, and for missing clamps.

Recheck tightness between the hood (2) and the air cleaner (3).

Replace damaged seal (1) with a new one.

Check tightness of the cooling loop. Check the loop for damaged rubber parts and for missing hose clips.

Stop the engine and disconnect the electric system by the master switch.

Check whether the oil cooler gills and the engine radiator gills are not clogged. In case of clogged gills clean them for instance by blowing through the radiators with pressured air (steam or warm water) according to chapter 4.6.34.

•

Clean the surface of batteries.

•

Check the condition of terminals and clean them.

Slightly wipe the terminals with grease (ensure good contact).

•

Check the level of electrolyte after opening the plugs of battery cells - the level of electrolyte in all cells should be 5 - 15 mm (0.2-0.6 in) above the plates, or to the lower edge of the gauge in the cells. Add distilled water to the cells with electrolyte level lower than 5 mm (0.2 in) above the plates. Check the level using a glass tube.

•

Close the batteries.

•

Keep the batteries dry and clean.

•

The batteries are stressed especially in winter. At low temperatures they have only part of their capacity available for starting the machine as compared to the capacity under normal conditions. Therefore, we recommend to test the condition of battery electrolyte and to recharge the battery, if necessary.

•

Should the machine not be used during very cold periods for a couple of weeks, remove the batteries and store them in a warm place, lest they may be damaged by freezing.

Checking the condition of the electrolyte:

Measure electrolyte density in individual cells using a refractometer (1), or hydrometer (2).

Recharge the battery in case of insufficient capacity. Discharged battery may freeze at temperatures of only a couple of degrees below zero.

Recharge batteries removed from the machine.

Disconnect wires of +B and +D terminals from the alternator before welding.

Do not run the alternator with wire disconnected from the +B terminal and connected +D terminal.

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions, when working with the battery.

Do not turn batteries upside down and avoid draining the electrolyte through the vents of the battery.

Use protective gloves and eye protection when working with the battery.

In case of spilling electrolyte, wash such place with water and neutralize with lime.

Do not eat, drink or smoke!

Dispose of old, damaged batteries.

Wash your hands and face carefully with soap and water after finished work!

Wear suitable dress to protect your skin against being stained by the electrolyte.

In case of an eye injury by electrolyte wash the eye with flowing water immediately for a couple of minutes. Then seek out medical help.

In case of ingesting the electrolyte drink maximum possible amount of milk, water or mixture of magnesium oxide with water.

In case of staining your skin with the electrolyte take off your clothes and shoes, wash affected spots with soap water or with solution of soda and water as soon as possible. Then seek out medical help.

Do not test live wires by touching them on the machine frame.

Disconnect the battery to avoid short-circuit when repairing it or manipulating with wires and electric equipment in the electrical circuit.

Disconnect the minus pole wire first when disconnecting the battery. Connect the plus pole wire first when connecting the battery.

Use coolant with antifreeze in weather zones or locations, where temperatures do not fall below 0°C (32°F). The coolant not only protects the cooling system against freezing but increases the boiling temperature as well..

Inhibitors contained in the coolant protect parts of the engine cooling system and extend their life.

Temperature of the coolant must be around 20°C (68°F) when measured by a hydrometer.

In case of more serious fouling dismantle the battery and the tank cover (1). Check and clean the inside of the tank. Insert a new sealing Teflon strip between the cover and the tank and screw in the cover. Mount the battery.

4.6.28. Hydraulic oil change

•

Let oil drain into a ready container - total amount of oil should be about 60 l (15.8 US gal).

•

Place the roller on a flat, firm surface.

•

Stop the engine and disconnect electric system.

Dismantle suction hose (1), cover (2) with suction strainer.

•

Dismantle the terminal and attach a hose.

Dismantle suction strainer from the suction pipe.

Wash the suction strainer in gasoline and blow the strainer with pressure air from inside.

Check the condition of the suction strainer; replace the strainer in case of damaged filter part.

Mount the strainer to the suction pipe.

Check the inside of the tank. Carefully clean the bottom and flush it with new oil if there are any impurities at the bottom. For easier cleaning it is possible to dismantle the entire upper cover (3) with the filler (4).

Reassemble the cover with the suction pipe. Lubricate O-ring with clean oil. For dismantled the entire upper cover (3), use a new Teflon sealing strip.

Insert a new cartridge into the filter container - tighten with torque 40 to10 Nm (30 + 7 lb ft).

Checking the oil temperature sensor

Dismantle (1) the sensor and clean the contact.

Dip the sensor into warm oil of known temperature and read oil temperature on the thermometer.

Replace the sensor if not operating properly.

4.6. Individual Operations of Lubrication and Maintenance Every 2000 Hours or Every 2 Years Filling the hydraulic loop:

! NOTE !

When filling the hydraulic loop with the filling device, old oil and impurities of the hydraulic loop including hydraulic generators and motors will be flushed. Thus the ratio of old oil and impurities in the new oil charge will decrease, thus extending the life of the hydraulic system.

•

Every 2000 Hours or Every 2 Years •

Fill the hydraulic loop using the filling device until clean oil starts flowing out of the hose - collect it to a clean vessel.

•

After approximately 15 l (4 US gal) have flowed out, remove the terminal from the drain spout and mount it back to the tank side.

•

Add oil to the tank to the top and disconnect the filling device.

•

Check the function of the level gauge sensor (the indicator of oil level should go off after filling the tank)

•

Start the engine, let it run at idle speed and test the function of the machine.

•

Recheck tightness and add oil with the filling device, if necessary.

Filling device, must have the following parameters: min. pressure 6 MPa (870 PSI) filtering 3 to 10 µm

•

Mount the quick-coupler of the filling device to the quick-coupler of fig.

•

Close the drain valve and refill the tank through the filler with specified type of oil up to the bottom of the strainer in the filling cap (filler).

Every 2000 Hours or Every 2 Years Change oil when cooled down below 50°C (122°F).

Follow fire safety measures!

•

Check the function of the level gauge sensor (the indicator of oil level should go offafter filling the tank)

•

Start the engine and let it run at idle speed, test all functions of the machine until the loops become saturated.

After disconnecting hydraulic loops blind all holes with plugs.

•

Add oil to the specified level and check tightness.

Collect drained oil; do not leave it soak to ground.

! NOTE !

Used oil and filters are environmentally dangerous waste - have them liquidated.

The cap of the tank filler is sealed. Should the seal be broken, warranty is null and void.

The alternative way of filling the hydraulic loop is an emergency solution only!

In this filling, it is necessary to cut the change interval to a half, i.e. 1000 h or 1 year.

Lifetime of hydraulic units decreases as well.

Change oil and clean the hydraulic tank before the working season or after a longer down time of the machine.

Keep the machine clean - avoid polluting the system with materials that may damage important units!

Close and cover containers of new oil - avoid polluting, water penetration etc.

Do not open the hydraulic tank unnecessarily!

In case of failure of hydraulic motor or generator, when inside parts of the unit have been destroyed, it is necessary to clean the inside of the hydraulic tank and remove mechanical impurities prior to the installation of a new unit. A professional service must perform this operation.

Do not use chemical detergents to clean the tank.

Use lint-free rags for cleaning.

Use recommended filters only.

Use only recommended oils according to chapter 4.1.3.

You can order a filling device with a quickcoupler from the manufacturer of the machine or your dealer.

Check the consistency of cleaner strainer. Replace it with a new one, if damaged.

Remount the strainer.

Check the integrity of the sealing O-ring on the flange and mount the unit.

Check and clean the strainer during every hydraulic oil change.

Check tightness.

Unscrew bolts (1), take out the unit from the bottom of the tank, Fig. 96 (N).

Avoid leakage of oil to ground!

Remove the suction strainer (4) from the suction pipe (3) of the hydraulic generator (1). Wash the suction strainer in gasoline and blow through the strainer with pressure air.

Change the coolant after operation of the machine or after warming the coolant to 85°C (185°F).

•

Place the roller on a flat, firm surface.

•

Stop the engine.

•

Open the drain cock in the cooler lower chamber. Let liquid drain into ready containers. The quantity drained should be about 19 l (5 gal US).

•

Open cooling system by removing pressure plug (1) on the equalizer reservoir.

Every 2000 Hours or Every 2 Years Do not dismantle the pressure plug before the temperature of the coolant drops below 50°C (120°F). Beware of the coolant and scalding when opening the pressure plug.

Check cooling system for defective hoses and missing hose clips. Check the condition of the radiator search for defects, leaks and cooling gills blocked by impurities. Clean and repair as necessary.

•

Fill up to the lower edge of the filler. Wait during filling for approx. 2-3 minutes until the loop is filled. Maximum filling speed is 19 l/min (5 gal US/min).

•

After closing the drain cock, fill cooling system with new coolant at a ratio of 50% of water and 50% of antifreeze.

•

Close the equalizer reservoir with the pressure plug.

•

Start the engine and wait until the temperature reaches 80°C (175°F). Check during while waiting for any leakage of coolant.

! NOTE !

The air cleaner contains the main and the safety cartridge.

Lifetime of the cartridges depends on the environment in which the machine is operating.

•

If the indicator (24), lights up, it is necessary to clean or replace the cartridge at least once a year.

•

Carefully remove the cover with the main cartridge (2).

Place the roller on a flat, firm surface.

Stop the engine and disconnect electrical system.

•

Lift the hood to its limit - see Operation manual chapter 2.7.3.

•

Clean the inside of the cleaner and the contact surface for the seal in the cleaner body with a rag.

Remove the dust valve (1), clean it and mount it back.

Check connections and piping for tightness and clogging of the engine inlet on the hood (such as leaves).

•

Mount a new or cleaned cartridge. Check whether it fits correctly and tightly.

Cleaning the main cartridge

•

The cartridge may be cleaned only five times, Thereafter it must be replaced.

•

Blow the cartridge with pressured air at a moderate angle from the inside to the outside. Pressure must not exceed 5 bars (72 PSI).

! NOTE !

Inspect dust tracks on the old cartridge showing its tightness in the cleaner body.

Do not clean the cartridge by knocking at it.

Do not clean the inside of the cleaner by pressure air; dust may get into the engine inlet pipe.

If the cartridge is contaminated with carbon particles, proper cleaning is not possible and the cartridge must be replaced.

We recommend having a cartridge on hand.

Safety cartridge:

After cleaning check for any defects on the cartridge (by light from the inside). In case of defect it must be replaced.

•

Make a note of each cleaning on the cartridge cover.

•

Replace the safety cartridge, with a new one.

Dismantle the cartridge by removing it from the center guide pin after unscrewing nut.

Replace the safety cartridge only when replacing the main cartridge!

Replace the seal nut with a new one when replacing the cartridge.

Maintenance - As Needed 4.6.33. Cleaning the machine •

Clean the machine of major impurities after finishing work.

•

Clean regularly at least once a week. When working in cohesive soils, cement and lime, the overall cleaning must be done daily.

Do not take the cartridges out for inspection.

Do not judge contaminated, used cartridges by their appearance.

Never use gasoline or other liquids for cleaning cartridges.

Blind the openings of the cleaner when washing the machine so that water cannot get into the air cleaner. Remove the blinds after washing.

The dust valve and cartridges may get clogged fast when moisture has been sucked in. It is necessary then to dismantle the cartridges, dry them out and clean the air cleaner body.

Do not leave the cleaner open longer than necessary.

Do not operate the machine with damaged cleaner body or cover.

Blind all openings into which the cleaning agent could penetrate (e.g. engine inlet) prior to washing by pressurized water.

Remove these blinds after washing the machine.

Do not expose electric parts or insulation material to direct water or steam flow. Always cover such materials (such as the inside of the alternator, etc.).

Disconnect batteries using master switch.

Work with the engine stopped.

Do not use aggressive and highly inflammable cleaning agents such as gasoline or highly inflammable materials.

Follow environmental standards and regulations when cleaning the machine!

Clean the machine on a site equipped with a catch basin for cleaning agents so that the ground and water are not contaminated!

Do not use banned cleaning agents!

Due to variable working conditions it is not possible to determine any fixed interval between cleaning.

•

•

In case of work in very dusty conditions clean the radiator daily. Clogged radiator will result in lower cooling capacity and increased temperatures of engine coolant and hydraulic oil.

•

Clean it using pressure air or pressure water or steam. Cleaning direction is from the side of the fan..

Dismantle the cover grill (1).

Take out the cleaner and cleaning cartridge (2).

2 ! NOTE !

Do not use too high a pressure, so that radiator honeycomb may not be damaged..

In case of contamination of the radiator by oil products, use a cleaning agent and proceed according to the manufacturer’s instructions!

Find the cause of contamination!

Follow environmental standards and regulations when cleaning the machine!

Clean the machine on a site equipped with a catch basin for cleaning agents so that the ground and water are not contaminated!

Do not use banned cleaning agents!

•

Carefully knock the cartridge and wash it in a detergent solution. If the cartridge becomes damaged and cannot be cleaned properly, it must be replaced with a new one.

! NOTE !

Clean it once a month. In case of work in very dusty conditions, the interval should be shortened.

We recommend having a cartridge on hand.

In case fuel contains impurities consistently, clean the separator of the fuel filter.

•

Prepare a container for draining the sludge.

•

Turn the separator valve (1) clockwise by 4 rotations until it shifts down by approx. 25 mm (1 ). Let fuel drain until clean fuel starts draining.

•

Then push the valve up and screw it in.

Maintenance - As Needed ! NOTE !

If you drained more than 6 cl (2 ozs) of fuel, add fuel into the fuel filter according to chapter 4.6.19. or vent the system according to chapter 4.6.37. This will prevent problems with starting.

If you completed preceding operations and could not start the engine, vent the high-pressure piping.

Maintenance - As Needed Fuel pressure in the high-pressure piping is rather high - it may cause serious injuries.

Do not vent hot engine - fuel may get into contact with hot piping and flare up.

Do not smoke or use open flame when working on fuel systems.

Collect leaked fuel.

•

Loosen one or more nuts of the injectors. By starting the engine you will push air out of the high-pressure piping.

•

Continue until the engine runs regularly.

•

Tighten loosened nuts to torque of 30 Nm.

If you cannot move scrapers any more within the range of oval openings of the holders (1) due to wear on the scrapers, dismantle the scraper (2) and move it closer to the drum by one hole.

Rear scrapers of the pad foot drum are longer. When replacing worn scrapers, replace the front scrapers with rear ones and the rear scrapers with new ones.

If you set too short a distance between the scraper and drum, they may get into contact when cornering with the machine.
