Cylinder Drift Tests

Tilt Cylinder Drift Test

IMPORTANT: This procedure requires two people.

1.Connect a bucket or other attachment to the attachment hitch.

2.Raise the lift arm about 1 meter (a few feet) off of the ground. Release the joysticks and make sure they are in the neutral position.

3.Move the right joystick to the left to tilt the attachment hitch all the way back.

4.Stop the engine and turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

If the bucket (or other attachment) drifts down, check the tilt cylinder for external leakage. If external leakage is found, replace the leaking cylinder seals.

If no external leakage is found, check the tilt cylinder for internal leakage according to “Tilt Cylinder Internal Leakage Test” on page294.

NOTE: The following is the maximum allowable tilt circuit cylinder drifting extension with a loaded bucket:

Model 1750RT: 40.9 mm (1.61 in.) within 15 minutes.

Model 2100RT: 33.5 mm (1.32 in.) within 15 minutes.

Model 2500RT: 26.4 mm (1.04 in.) within 15 minutes.

Lift Cylinder Drift Test

1.Start the machine. If necessary, attach a bucket or other attachment to the machine.

2.Pull the right joystick back to raise the lift arm about 1 meter (a few feet). Release the right joystick and make sure it is in the neutral position.

3.Stop the engine and turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

4.Observe whether the lift arm drifts down over a period of time.

NOTE: The following is the maximum allowable lift circuit cylinder drifting retraction:

Model 1750RT: 28.4 mm (1.12 in.) within 15 minutes.

Model 2100RT: 23.3 mm (.92 in.) within 15 minutes.

Model 2500RT: 22.1 mm (.87 in.) within 15 minutes.

If the bucket (or attachment) drifts down, Check the lift cylinders for external/internal leakage:

•If external leakage is evident, a new seal kit should be installed in the leaking cylinder(s)

•If no external leakage is evident, check the lift cylinders for internal leakage according to “Hydraulic Cylinder Disassembly/Assembly” on page280.

Cylinder Internal Leakage Tests

Tilt Cylinder Internal Leakage Test

IMPORTANT: This procedure requires two people.

1.Start the machine. Move the right joystick to the right to tilt the attachment hitch all the way back.

2.Complete the “Mandatory Safety Shutdown Procedure” on page22.

IMPORTANT: To prevent contamination, ALWAYS clean the area around hydraulic fittings before disconnecting hydraulic hoses or tubes.

3.Remove the hydraulic hose from the port (D, Fig. 533) at the base end of the tilt cylinder and cap or plug the hose.

IMPORTANT: Caps/plugs MUST BE able to withstand full hydraulic pressure.
