Control and operation
Extract the pins 7 connecting the telescoping cylinders 1 and the counterweight 2 and fully retract the cylinders.
Installation of the counterweight
Place the counterweight 2 beside or behind the track chains so that its bearing points are situated just below the telescoping cylinders 1 (Consider distance X l or X C noticed during removal).
Start the Diesel engine and bring it to low idle.
Push the lever 5 in direction U for about two minutes to deaerate the hydraulic telescoping cylinders 1
Pull the lever 5 in direction D to extend the cylinders, insert the connecting pins 7 between counterweight 2 and telescoping cylinders 1 and secure the pins 7 Coat the mounting pins 7 with grease before installation, this will facilitate the future removals.
Push the lever 5 in direction U to lift the counterweight 2. At the end of the elevation of the counterweight, check that it inserts accurately into the structure of the uppercarriage.
Just before the weight comes to contact, insert the mounting bolts 12 and turn them completely in by hand.
Lift up the counterweight 2 some more to the stop and tighten the bolts 12 to the prescribed torque.
Pull the control lever 5 towards D for a short moment so to relieve the pressure inside the telescopic cylinders.
Caution!
It is forbidden to operate the machine if all the mounting bolts of the counterweight(s) and of the counterweight shell are not installed and correctly tightened.
The telescoping cylinders and/or the steel structures may be seriously damaged.
Installation of the additional counterweight (as necessary)
Danger !
Before installing an additional counterweight, make sure that its installation is permissible for the operation of the excavator with the installed working attachment. Basically, the installation of an additional counterweight 8 is prohibited for the operation of the machine fitted with a short working attachment as well with an earthmoving attachment
Loosen the screws 17 und extract the pins 7 connecting the telescoping cylinders 1 and the counterweight 2 and fully retract the cylinders.
Loosen the screws 26 and remove the pin retaining clamps 25 which are attached to the lower face of the counterweight 2.
Attach the retaining clamps to the provided threaded holes in the front face of the additional counterweight 8
Tighten the screws 26
Place the additional counterweight 8 beside or behind the track chains so that its bearing points are situated just below the telescoping cylinders 1 (Consider distance X l or X C noticed during removal).
Carefully extract the telescoping cylinders 1 so to insert the eyes of the piston rods between the retaining clamps 27 fixed to the additional counterweight 8
Insert the connecting pins 7 between the telescoping cylinders 1 and the additional counterweight 8 and secure the pins 7 using the screws 17.
Push the lever 5 in direction U to lift the additional counterweight 8. At the end of the elevation of the additional counterweight, check that it inserts accurately into the structure of the uppercarriage.
Just before the additional counterweight 8 comes to contact, insert the mounting bolts 18 and turn them completely in by hand.
Lift up the additional counterweight 8 some more to the stop and tighten the bolts 18 to the prescribed torque.
Pull the control lever 5 towards D for a short moment so to relieve the pressure inside the telescopic cylinders.
Tightening torques of the mounting bolts
The mounting bolts 12 of the removable counterweight 2 must be torqued to:
Machine modelR974C
Bolts 12: Number / Size - Quality4 X / M42 - 10,9
Tightening torque: N.m / (ft . lbs)4900 / (3640)
