Introduction Dear valued Customer, prior to starting the machine please ensure that you are familiar with the machine and the manual provided. Please pay attention to the safety indications.

Carefully working through the Manual will help facilitate handling, avoid disturbances and accidents and increase the life span of the machine.

Kverneland shall not be liable for any damage or operational disturbances arising from failure to observe the instructions contained in the Manual.

The mandatory delivery instructions and initial starting up by your specialist helps you to both understand the device and get accustomed to adequate handling

Notice of defects So far as the application of 377 HGB is concerned, the following applies: •

The Buyer is obliged to check apparatus, accessories and spare parts for any damage in transit or omission of delivery immediately upon consignment and any defects shall be reported immediately.

•

Notice in writing of any claims on the part of the Buyer will only be considered if sent within 14 days of consignment at the latest.

•

Once the presence of hidden defects has been established notice in writing of any claims must be received by the Seller within 6 months from consignment at the latest. The legal periods of limitation remain unaffected. The burden of proof lies with the buyer.

Intended use •

The power harrow has been built exclusively for the usual application with agricultural work (intended use). Any other use beyond this is to be considered as incorrect. The manufacturer shall not be liable for any damage resulting there from; this is entirely at the Buyer’s own risk.

•

Adherence to the servicing, maintenance and repair conditions recommended by the manufacturer are included in intended use.

•

The power harrow must only be used, serviced and repaired by trained and trusted personnel.

•

The manufacturer shall not be held liable in respect to any defect arising from arbitrary modification of the machine.

General Safety Instructions General Safety and Accident Prevention Rules

Before starting up the machine check the unit’s traffic and operational safety.

• Please pay careful attention to the indications contained in this manual as well as the General Safety and Prevention of Accidents rules!

The attached warning and information signs are important indications regarding the safe operation of the unit; this is for your safety!

Pay attention to the respective regulations when using public traffic routes.

Familiarise yourself with the unit before starting work; it is too late when starting up.

The clothing of the user should be close fitting. Wide, loosely fitting clothes can lead to accidents.

Check the surrounding area before start-up and commencement! (Children). Ensure that there is sufficient vision.

Passengers during work and transport of the apparatus are not permitted.

Devices must be correctly coupled and attached to the prescribed fixtures only.

Particular caution is necessary when coupling and uncoupling apparatus on or from the tractor.

Do not exceed the admissible axle load, total weights and transport dimensions.

Transport equipment such as lighting, warning and protective apparatus for example, must be checked and fitted!

Release ropes for quick-couplers must hang loosely and must not be released in the low position.

Do not leave the driving seat during the operation.

Handling, steering and brake ability will be influenced by fitted or affixed devices and ballast weights. Take care, therefore, to have sufficient steering and braking ability. Take the wide outreach and/or the working load of the device into consideration when driving along bends.

Place the apparatus in operation only if all safety devices are fitted and are in safety position.

Standing in work area is forbidden.

Do not stand within the machine’s turning and swivel range.

The hydraulic folding and the hydraulic elevating device for attachments must only be operated if there are no persons within the swivelling range.

Caution. There is a danger of crushing and shearing at the hydraulic folding and the hydraulic elevating device for attachments.

Prior to leaving the tractor ensure that the apparatus and the attachment are discharged, that the motor is off and that the ignition key has been removed!

Nobody must stand between the tractor and the device until the parking brake and/ or wheel wedges have been used to secure the vehicle against rolling.

Before the mounting and dismantling of the apparatus on the three-point linkage, position the operating control thereby ensuring that accidental lifting or lowering is impossible.

The attachment categories of the tractor must correspond exactly with that of the device or they must be co-ordinated.

There is a danger of crushing and shearing in the three-point linkage zone!

Do not step between the tractor and the device during the external operation for the three-point linkage.

With the apparatus in the transport position always pay attention to have sufficient lateral locking of the tractor three point linkage.

The control lever must be locked to prevent lowering when travelling on public roads with the raised implement.

General Safety Instructions Power take off (PTO) shaft operation •

Only the pto shafts recommended by the manufacturer must be used.

•

The pto shaft’s protecting tube and guard as well as the PTO guard – on both the tractor and apparatus sides - must be attached and in a proper condition.

•

Make sure there is the prescribed overlap of tubing covers when in transport and in work position.

•

Mount and dismantle the pto shaft only when the power is switched off, the engine is switched off and the ignition key has been removed.

•

Always pay attention to the correct assembly and security of the pto shaft.

•

Prevent the pto shaft tube from rotating by attaching the safety chains.

•

Prior to engaging the PTO ensure that the selected PTO speed of the tractor corresponds with the apparatus’ admissible input speed.

•

Ensure that nobody is present in the danger zone of the apparatus prior to activating the apparatus.

•

Never engage the PTO on when the engine is switched off.

•

Nobody must be in the range of the turning PTO or PTO shaft when working with the PTO.

•

Always disengage the PTO when the PTO shaft is too angled and when it is not needed.

•

Cleaning, lubricating or adjustment of the PTO operated apparatus or the pto shaft should only ever be carried out when the PTO is disengaged, the engine is switched off and the ignition key has been removed.

•

Position the uncoupled pto shaft in the holder provided.

•

After the pto shaft has been dismantled put the sleeve on the PTO stub .

•

Damage to the pto shaft must be repaired immediately. Do not continue to operate with a defective pto shaft.

•

Pay careful attention to the indications of the pto shaft manufacturer.

Hydraulic system •

The hydraulic system operates under high pressure.

•

When connecting the hydraulic hose to the tractor’s hydraulic system ensure that the hydraulic circuit is depressurised on both the tractor and device side.

•

Label hydraulic connections so that incorrect operations are impossible.

•

Exchanging the connections results in reverse operation (e.g. lifting/lowering – danger of accident).

•

Regularly check the hydraulic hose lines and replace if they are found to be damaged or aged!

The replaced hose lines must correspond with the technical requirements of the equipment manufacturer.

•

Under high pressure any escaping liquids (hydraulic oil) can penetrate the skin and cause serious injuries. When injured visit a doctor immediately. Danger of infection.

•

Prior to working on the hydraulic system ensure that the apparatus is off. Depressurise the system and switch the engine off!

General Safety Instructions Hydraulic hoses and connections •

Carrying out repairs to the hydraulic hoses and connections is prohibited!

All hoses, hose lines and bolts are to undergo a regular check by an expert1 at least once annually for any signs leakage and outwardly recognisable damage.

Remove any damaged sections!

Escaping oil can lead to injuries and burns.

Hoses and hose lines are subject to natural aging even with appropriate storage and admissible strain. Their working life is, therefore, limited. Inappropriate storage, mechanical damage and undue strain are the most frequent causes of failure.

The working life of a hose line shouldn’t be more than six years, including a storage time of, at the most, two years (take note of the manufacturing date on the hose lines).

Using the hoses in threshold region of the admissible strain can shorten the working life (e.g. high temperatures, frequent shock movement, extremely high impulse frequencies, multi-shift operation).

•

Hoses and hose lines must be replaced if on inspection the following criteria are determined: - Damage to the external layer up to the insert (e.g. worn areas, cuts, tears); - Embrittlement of the external layer (cracking of the tube material); - Deformation which does not correspond to the natural form of the hose or the hose line, both in the pressure-free and in the pressurised condition or with bends e.g. layer separation, blistering; - Leaks; - Installation requirements have been ignored; - Damage to or deformation of the hose fitting which compromises the firmness of the armature or the hose/armature connection; - The hose has travelled out of the armature; - Corrosion of the armature which compromises the function and firmness; - Exceeding the storage times - and working life.

Only use original spare parts when replacing the hoses and connections.

• Remove and install hoses and connections professionally. Do not invert the connections.

An Expert is defined as one who has sufficient knowledge in the area of the hydraulic hoses and hose lines due to technical formation and experience as well as being sufficiently familiar with the relevant national Industrial Safety Regulations, Prevention of Accidents Regulations, guidelines and generally recognized technical rules (e.g. DIN standards) so as to be able to judge the work safe status of the hydraulic hoses or hose lines.

General Safety Instructions Maintenance •

Repair, maintenance and cleaning operations as well as the elimination of malfunctions are to be carried out only when the pto shaft is disengaged and the engine is switched off.

•

Regularly check the tightness of nuts and screws and tighten if necessary.

•

When carrying out maintenance operations and tine changes on the raised apparatus always ensure your safety using suitable supporting items.

•

Dispose of waste oil properly.

•

When carrying out electrical welding work on the tractor and attached apparatus disconnect the wires to the generator and the battery.

•

Spare parts must correspond to the technical requirements determined by the equipment manufacturer. These are provided, for example, by original spare parts.

Read and pay careful attention to the instruction manual and the safety indications prior to starting up.

Tractor and attached equipment: When attaching equipment onto the front or rear linkages, do not exceed the admissible overall weight of the ractor, that is, the maximum axle load and the tyre capacity of the tractor. The front axle of the tractor must always be loaded with at least 20% of the overall weight of the tractor.

Category 2 is positioned inside, category 3 outside.

•

The lower links (diagrams 3 and 4) can be adjusted lengthways in 2 positions. They are movable in order to simplify the attachment.

•

As the angle of the PTO shaft may not exceed 25°, the lower links may need to be set in the extended position if necessary.

Clean and grease gearbox the input shaft (7) and pto shaft profile (8) (Figs. 5 and 6).

•

Loosen and remove the screws (9) of the yoke.

•

Open the assembly window (10) in the shaft guard.

•

Slide the coupling (Fig.6) on the gearbox shaft until the yoke’s bolt holes are over the input shaft’s groove.

•

Insert the screws (9) in their holes and tighten (about 70 Nm) whilst gently moving the coupling.

•

Ensure that the coupling is tightly and securely fixed.

•

Close the assembly window.

•

Fasten the cover tube’s support chain.

•

During work check that the coupling is securely tightened at regular intervals.

Position the machine horizontally.

Open the filler cap (11).

Check the level with a dip stick. The level of the grease must be 3-4 cm from the bottom of the casing.

If necessary refill with suitable grease (see chapter on ‘Maintenance and Care’).

In order to avoid grease clogging the air vent when the machine is being operated the filling level must not be exceeded.

Remove the oil dipstick (12) and check the oil level. The oil level must reach up to the marking on the dipstick.

If necessary use type SAE 90 gear oil to refill (pos.14 with 3-Gears).

Replace the dipstick.

NG S2 with 2 Speed gearbox (Fig.. 12): • Unscrew the oil level screw (13). The Oil level must reach up to the lower edge of the opening.

If necessary use type SAE 90 gear oil to refill. Unscrew the screws (14), use a funnel to fill with oil and then lock the screws in place.

Replace the oil level screw (13).

Do not stand between the tractor and the implement unless the parking brake and/or tyre wedges have been used to ensure that the tractor does not roll.

Before mounting and dismantling the implement on the three-point linkage, position the operating control making accidental lifting or lowering impossible.

The attachment categories of the tractor must correspond exactly with that of the implement or they must be co-ordinated.

There is a danger of crushing and shearing in the three-point linkage zone!

Do not stand between the tractor and the machine during the operation for the three-point linkage!

To ensure optimal positioning of the implement set the tractor lift arms to the same length and place in the slotted hole on the lower links Couple the lower arms to the lower links of the power harrow (figs. 14 and 15).

Position the upper link (fig. 15) and adjust so that the harrow is horizontal.

In the working position the upper link must slope up towards the power harrow and the lower arms must be either horizontal or slope down slightly towards the power harrow. This arrangement ensures that the power harrow can override obstacles and the packer roller is correctly loaded. Badly adjusted 3-point linkage (upper and lower hitches parallel) places unnecessarly high loads on the implement and roller (fig. 13).

Lock the stabilisers of the lower arms to avoid sideways movement of the harrow.

Clean and grease all matching surfaces of the tractor PTO and of the PTO shaft.

•

Unlock the safety device by pressing the safety locking pin or turning the screws.

•

Position the half-shaft onto the tractor PTO stub.

•

Release the safety device and lock the PTO shaft in position. The safety device must return to the initial position.

•

Gently shake the PTO shaft to check whether the locking of the safety device has taken place.

•

Place the tractor-side and implement-side halves next to each other to check the length of the PTO shaft. Both the tractor’s and the implement’s PTO shafts must be at the same height.

•

If the PTO shaft halves sliding motion amount to less than 40mm then both halves must be shortened by the same amount. The difference in lengths between the protective pipe and the profile tube must be maintained.

•

Cut the shaft so as to obtain maximum possible overlap of the telescopic profile. At least 1/3 overlap must be available when operating.

•

Once the PTO shaft has been attached the safety chains must be fastened both tractor and implement side, so that the telescopic outer tube cannot rotate.

WARNING

•

Make sure that tractor and implement PTO shafts are parallel! The angle can be adjusted with the top link.

•

With the power harrow in the working position the angle of the PTO shaft should not exceed 20° (e.g. operating depth = 10 cm) and the maximum permitted angle is 25° (fig. 17).

Pay attention to the basic safety indications concerning start-up.

Three-point coupling on the tractor •

The harrow must be positioned horizontally in working position, the top link must slope up towards the power harrow and the lower links must be arranged horizontally, or slightly sloping down towards the harrow.

Side plates •

Place the side plates (15) in the work position (Fig.18).

•

Remove the screws (16) and position the side plates to a height above ground level corresponding to the required working depth.

•

Refasten the screws.

Working speed The standard speeds of the gearboxes as assembled in the factory are indicated in the following table. A good working result may be obtained using these speeds in normal conditions.

Generally the tractor PTO speed of 1000 rpm is recommended for the H4 and S4 gearboxes as the the reduced torque gives the pto shaft a longer lifetime.

Machine settings Working depth •

Set a medium working depth on the depth setting plates (18) on the left and right of the harrow.

•

Remove the safety pin (19).

•

Take out the square bolts (17) and position it in the 3rd hole of the of the middle row in depth setting plates (18).

•

Secure the bolts with the safety pin (19).

This setting must be changed in the field.

Rear levelling bar The rear levelling bar (20) has the function of evening out the soil and reducing clod size.

Remove the safety pin (22) from both spindle holders and adjust the levelling bar (20) horizontally to a height above ground level corresponding to the required working depth.

•

Lock the levelling bar in position with the safety pins (21).

Warning: The levelling bar must not be attached if working in stony conditions.

Track eradicators The track eradicators (25) are attached to the track eradicator holder (23). The holder (23) is attached to the framework of the power harrow at flanges (24).

When single track eradicators (25) are used they should be positioned in the centre of the tracks left by the tractor wheels and should be set to approx. 5 cm working depth.

•

If double track eradicators are used they should be placed on the sides of the track at the same working depth.

Kverneland power harrows are equipped with interchangeable gear gearboxes with different power ratings.

The following table indicates the possible working speeds with the standard susbstitution gearpairs available.

Additional working speeds may be obtained with other gear-pairs available on request (grey pairs).

Disengage the tractor PTO. Wait until all moving parts are at a standstill.

Either completely lift the machine out or tilt it forwards so that no oil can spill out when the gearbox is opened.

Switch the tractor engine off and remove the ignition key.

Secure the tractor against rolling away.

Secure the tractor hydraulics against unintentional lowering.

Carefully clean the gearbox housing.

Unscrew the screws and open the rear transmission cover. Take care not to damage the seal.

Remove the snap rings (26) substitute the gear wheels (27) in accordance with the above table.

Carefully reinsert the snap rings in the annular slot.

Close the gearbox. Pay attention to the correct seating of the seal and tighten the screws evenly.

Dry store the oiled transmission wheels.

Disengage the tractor PTO. Wait until all moving parts are at a standstill.

Switch the tractor engine off and remove the ignition key.

Secure the tractor against rolling away.

Secure the tractor hydraulic against unintentional lowering.

Pull up the lock (28) to disengage – pull the gear shift lever out completely – gear 1. The positions for gear 2 and 3 are achieved by pushing the gear shift lever (29) in.

Secure the lock (28) properly.

• Maintenance and repair work may be carried out by trained technical personnel only.

• When working ensure that the PTO has been disengaged, the tractor engine is off, the ignition key has been removed, the tractor has been secured against rolling away and the machine has been secured against unintentional lowering.

After the first two (2) operational hours tighten all of the bolted joints and continue to carry out a daily check before beginning work.

Use the manufacturer’s original spare parts only.

Disconnect the battery prior to carrying out any electrical welding work.

Use Kverneland original spare parts only.

Depending upon the working depth wanted, the tines may be worn up to half of their original length at maximum. Tines with a remaining length of 150mm can only be used for very shallow working as their length has been reduced by half.

When changing the tines raise the machine and use suitable equipment to secure against unintentional lowering and falling.

As shown in fig. 25, loosen the fixing bolts, exchange the old tines with the new original tines and firmly retighten the screws. Pay attention that the double lock nut is seated correctly with the connecting bar upwards.

Torque data: 300 Nm with NG M 500 Nm with NG H and S. Retighten the screws tight after 2 hours of use.

Beware of hot oil after long periods of use.

Dispose of waste oil properly.

Place the oil collecting container under the oil drain plug (31) and remove the plug.

Unscrew the oil dipstick (12) or the filler-cap (14) for ventilation.

After the waste oil has run out, replace the drain plug (31) with seal.

Loosen nuts (32).

Rotate the scraper bar until the scrapers come up against the packer roller using adjuster the nuts (33).

The scrapers may be worn up to the scaper holder (36).

After the nuts (34) have been loosened push each scraper against the tube of the roller, if necessary turn around or replace. Tighten the nuts (34).

Rotate the scraper bar back with the adjuster nuts (33) so that a gap of 1-2 mm is left between the scraper and the tube of the roller so that they do not touch the roller when it is turned by hand.

Firmly fasten the nuts (32).

The disc roller consists of a set of large rolling discs, which are combined with a skid holder (41). This results in an optimal combination of compaction, crumbling and self cleaning.

The holes (37-40) enable the skid holder (41) to be adjusted in 25 mm steps of the working depth. The height adjuster arm is spring loaded to keep the skids and trailing blades pressed down.

Place the pin in position (39) for heavy, rough soils: the trailing blade and lower edge of the discs are at the same height.

Place the pin in position (38) for medium soils: the blade is higher than the lower edge of the ring.

Place the pin in position (37) for light soils: the blade acts under its own weight and may move upwards.

Place the pin in position (40) to make the blades inoperative

Further adjustment of the blade (45) can be carried out using counter nuts (42). With wearing of the blades or to increase the spring pressure, compensating shim washers (43) can be placed before the guide bushing (44).

To change the blade, unscrew the nuts (46), replace the old blade (45) with a new one, use new self-locking nut and retighten.

Road transport The transport width of the 3m power harrow is 3, 06m excluding the side guards (fig. 37). If the exact transport width is to be respected the side guard assembly must be removed:

Road Transport, Stone Release System Do not exceed the 3.00m transport width when transporting on public roads. If necessary the machine may be transported lengthways. We recommend using the universally applicable ‘Kverneland Transport Trailer’ (fig.38).

Stone release system The stone release system helps in overcoming larger obstacles (stones etc.) in the ground (Fig. 39). The leaf springs (51) ensure that a part of the machine weight is transferred onto the roller thereby reducing the load on the tine carriers and tines. In this way the power harrow becomes effectively lighter and can move upwards more easily when it encounters an obstacle.

Assemble the main frame (59) onto the supports (56) with the bolts (58).

Assemble the chains (60) to the headstock with the shackles provided.

Assemble the seeder hitch plates (61) with screws (62) in accordance with the length of power harrow and roller.

Attach the top link rod (63).

Seed drill assembly Operation: • Position the power harrow in front of the seeder.

• Lower the seeder hitch to just above ground level, remove the safety eye (64), and place them onto the drill’s lower hitches, loosen the chains (60) until the hooks are able to pass under seeder’s lower hitches.

• Tighten the chains (60) until the hooks engage the lower hitches.

• Secure the safety eyes (64).

• Fasten the upper link rod (63) to the top link of the seeder and adjust until the seeder is vertical.

The chains (60) must sag slightly when the seeder is in the working position so that it can run freely on its wheels. Chains which are too long reduce the ground clearance when lifting the harrow and seeder together.

Assembly: • Use the screws (66) to loosely fasten the supports (65) to the framework.

• Use the appropriate bolts to assemble the main frame (68) onto the supports and attach the beam (70) at the upper hitches middle hole.

• Place the hydraulic cylinder in supports (65) and attach bolts (67).

• Adapt the length of the hydrolift to the power harrow with roller over the length setting (71) • Connect the cylinders to a hydraulic circuit suitable for single-action cylinders.

• Tighten all screws and retighten again after a few hours of operation.

Position the power harrow in front of the seeder.

Lower the seeder hitch to just above ground level, remove the safety eyes (64), and place them onto the drill’s lower hitches and advance so that the hooks pass under seeder’s lower hitches.

Raise the seeder hitch until the hooks lie close to the drills lower hitches.

Secure the safety eyes.

Mount the upper link (72) so that the drill does not tip backwards when lifted. Position the seeder vertically.

Always use the transport locking device (73) when transporting the seeder in the raised position.

Dismount the PTO guard on the rear of the gearbox.

Assemble the Accord triangle to the headstock of the power harrow in such a way that the space between the rear belt-pulley and the rear edge of the support triangle is exactly 137 mm. (the belt pulley and the flange may be mounted in different positions for this purpose - see Accord manual).

Adjust the triangle so that it is vertical with the upper link (75) and tighten the screws securely.
