Thefollowing precautions are givento preventsuchfailures, buttheyare onlya partof whatyoumustfollow.Readall safetyprecautions thoroughly beforeoperating the machine. ( PRECAUTIONS BEFORE OPERATION ¯ OBSERVE SAFETY RULES Follow allsafety rules, precautions, andoperatingprocedures.

If thereare otherpersonneland flag-men workingin the area,have themobservethe specified signs.

¯ WEAR PROTECTIVE CLOTHING Wearwell-fitting safety shoes, hardhat,and workingclothes,and put on protective glasses, masks,and gloves, whennecessary.

¯ READ THE OPERATORS MANUAL THOROUGHLY Beforeoperating themachine, readthisoperatorsmanualthoroughly in orderto use themachine effectively andsafely.

In caseof emergency, takethe lifehammer, breakthe cab glass,and escapefrom the cab.

In addition, thelifehammer is equipped with a cutter onthelever sideto cuttheseatbelt, etc.

¯ ENSURE SAFETY AT THE WORKSlTE Beforeoperatingthe machine,surveyand recordthe geographical andgeological featuresof theworksite completely to prevent the machinefrom fallingor the soil from caving in.

¯ PERFORM A PREOPERATION INSPECTION Performinspections beforestarting the machine.If any problems are discovered, repairthem immediately.

If thelever is notsetto thelockposition andis touched accidentally, the machinemay move suddenly and a seriousinjury may result.

Beforeleaving themachine, lowerthebucket to theground, lockthesafety lever, stopthe engine, andlockandkeepallkeys.

Stop the enginebeforereplenishing with fuel.Securely tighten allfuelandoilcaps.

Keepfuelandoilin thedesignated storage areas.

¯ USE CAUTION NEAR NOISE If noiseis highduringoperation, hearing loss may result.Ear coversor ear plugs shouldbe usedif the operator willbe exposedto highnoiselevelsfora longperiod of time.

Inspectand clean handrails,track, and mounting parts.Removeslippery materials, such as lubricants, and mud. Alwaysplace the superstructure entrance parallel to the tracksbeforestopping the enginefor dismounting.

¯ AVOID HANDLING AT HIGH TEMPERATURES Immediately afterthe machineis operated, the temperature and pressureof the engine coolant,engineoil, and hydraulic oil are veryhigh.Burnsmay resultif capsareremoved,or oil,water,or filters arechanged undertheseconditions.

Waituntilthe temperature goesdown,beforefollowing theproperprocedures.

¯ USE THE PROPER OPTIONAL ATTACHMENT Beforeinstalling or usingan optional attachment, thoroughly readthe optionsmanual.

Do not useattachments whicharenot specified by KOBELCO. This may cause accidents or damage, and deteriorate the machine’s functions andlifespan.

2. Thecoolant levelshouldbe between FULL andLOW in thereservetank(~).If the coolant is LOW, remove the reserve tank cap and refillwith coolant.Use softwatersuchas tap waterwhichnot generate incrustation, as coolant.

3. If thereserve tankis empty, refill with coolantfromtheradiator side.At this time,loosenthe radiatorcap slowly.

1. Park the machineon the levelground.

Set the arm vertical to thegroundand lowerthe bucketto theground.

2. Pullup thesafety leverandsetit to the lockposition.

3. Set the throttle leverto LOW and idle for 5 minutes.The temperature of the enginewillcoolgradually, helpingto prolong theengine life.

4. Turnthestarterkey to OFFto stopthe engine ; thenpulloutthekey.

5. Beforeleavingthe machine,closethe windows,door, and each cover,then lockthe machine.

2. COOLANT ¯ Whendrivingor storingthe machinein cold regions, the ratioof mixingantifreeze into the coolingsystem should conform with the lowestpredictedambienttemperature.

If coolantfreezes, theradiator, crankcase, and cylinderhead may become damaged. ¯ When shippedfrom the factory,the machinecontainscoolantin whichall-seasontype LONG LIFE COOLANT is mixed. ¯ Whendrivingor storingthe machinewhen the temperature is low,inspectthe coolant to maintainproperconcentration. ,

BATTERY When the temperature becomes low, the chargingabilitymay go down or the battery may freeze. Charge thoroughly at the propertime and coverthe batteryfor heat insulation.

Keepthebattery fluid’s specific gravity between 1.30-1.25120°C(68.0 °F)I.If thespecific gravity goesdown,thebattery maybeaptto freeze.

1. BEFORE OPERATION ¯ Check the plugs, cocks,and covers for looseness. ¯ Applygreaseto the electrical equipment as requiredto preventcorrosion.

1. AIR CLEANER Cleanor replacethe elementat the proper time.

2. RADIATOR Cleanthe radiator at the propertimeto prevent the radiator core from becoming cloggedwithdust.

3. FUEL Be carefulnot to let contamination in the fuelwhen replenishing it. Inspectthe elementsand filtersat the propertime.

4. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT Cleanthe starterand alternator especially, at the propertime,to preventdustfromaccumulating. ¯ HEATER HANDLING METHOD (CAB spec.)

1. When the ambienttemperatureis low, turn the car heateron to warm.

2. Whenyou needto use the heater,openengine guard and open the valve @ mountedon the water manifold on engine upper part by turningit counterclockwise to circulate the enginecoolingwater.

4. AFTER OPERATION Mud and water adhering to the machine may freezeand this may becomeit inoperative.Keepthe following measuresto prevent malfunctions. ¯ Remove mud and water adhering to the machine. Remove water adhering to the rollers thoroughly and park on dry ground to prevent the track assembly fromfreezing. ¯ Retract the cylinder rods to minimum lengthto reduceexposedareaof the rods.

Thiswill preventmud or wateron the rod facesfrom damagingthe seal.

5. HANDLING OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT The electrical equipment is especially sensitive to water.Be carefulnot to exposethe electricalequipmentto waterwhen washing the machineor when it is raining.The controller(microcomputer) is installedat the operator’s seat of the machine.

Starttheengineandoperatethemachineandoperating unitoncea monthto lubricate allof theparts. ¯ Beforestarting theengine, checktheengineoilandcoolant level, andreplenish if insufficient. ¯ Wipeoff the rust preventives fromthe cylinderand pistonrod throughly. ¯ Afterstarting the engine,warmup themachinecompletely.

Repeat traveling, slewing, andexcavating several timesto lubricate eachpartof themachine.

IMAINTENANCE 1 ( PERIODICAL INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE ¯ PERIODICAL INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE Periodical inspection enablesthe machineto makethemostof itsfunctions and prolongs the machinelife.Basically, lubrication and maintenance intervalsare determined by the hour meter.If performing lubrication andmaintenance according to calendar timeis preferred, the hour meterreadingcorresponds to the lubrication and maintenance period(daily,weekly, monthly, etc.)in calendar time;thuscalendar timecan be used.Itemsfor whichservicetime cannotbe specified are explained in the sectionWHENREQUIRED. It is recommended that replenishment andmaintenance shouldbe performed earlierthantheservicetimespecified in the LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE INTERVALS list when using the machine under severe conditions or in dustyor humidareas. ¯ KEEP THE LUBRICANT CLEAN Storethe lubricant at the cleanplaceindoors.Preventdust or water from being mixedin withthelubricant.

¯ KEEP THE MACHINE CLEAN Cleanthe machineto make it easy to discoverproblems, suchas oilleakage, cracks, and looseness.

Especially cleanthe grease nipple, bleeder, andoillevelgauge(oilinspectionwindow).

USE CAUTION IN REGARD TO THE COOLANT AND OIL TEMPERATURE Do notreplace oil,waterandfilters immediatelyafterthemachine is stopped sincethey will be very hot. Wait untilthe machine coolsdownto changethem.If theoil,however,is verycool,warmit up firstI’toapproximately20-40°C(68-104°F )] then dispose of it.

CHECK THE WASTE OIL AND FILTERS Afterchanging theoilandfilters, checkthe wasteoilandreplaced filters fortheamount of metalchipsor foreign materials.

MAINTENANCE (FOLLOW THE PRECAUTIONS BELOW WHEN MOUNTING HOSES, PIPING, AND JOINTS ¯ Be careful notto damagethehoses,tubes,andjointsandprevent foreignmaterials fromentering in them.

Performdustproof treatment for eachpartuponnecessity. ¯ Cleanthehoses,tubes,joints, andsurroundings.

Removethecleaning solvent completely and drythembeforeinstalling. ¯ Do not useflawedor deteriorated O-rings.

If a partis usedwhichhas thesamedimensions butis madeof different material andhasa different hardness fromthespecified one,thismay causeoilleakage or greatly shorten thelifeof themachine.

Useonlythespecified parts.

INSTALLING HYDRAULIC HOSE AND PIPE JOINT Thefollowing twotypesof jointareusedon thejointpartof hosepiping.

A. Metaljoint Pressandsealtheopening of connector (tee, elbow)and hose.Disassemble and assemble it to protect thedamage on theseatsurface.

B. O-ring sealjoint O-ringis equipped withhosefittingwhich sealstheoilpressure on thejointandprotectsit fromoilleakage.

The tightening torqueof the jointof each hydraulic hose is determined by the diameterof thehosefitting screws.

In caseabnormality of somekindis detected, thehosepipe jointshouldbe repaired or replaced according to the following procedure even before theperiodic inspection of theunitof hydraulicequipment. ¯ O-RING 1. At reassembling, be sureto replacethe O-ringwitha newone. ° Wherethe unionis loosened and oil is leaked, never tighten itasit is.Install a newO-ringand checkthatthe O-ringis securely fitted, andthentighten it. , Neverinstalla damagedand deterioratedO-ringevenif it is newone.The use of an O-ringotherthan a normal onecontributes to oil leakageand reducesthe life of hydraulicequipment becausethe material and hardness differevenif theyarethesamesize. ¯ JOINT 1. Care must be exercisednot to damage hose,pipe and O-ringgrooveface and sealface(dent, etc.)of hydraulic equipment. The use of a damaged O-ring contributes to oilleakage.

MAINTENANCE ( RELEASING AIR IN THE FUEL SYSTEM Whenreplacing the fuel filteror whenair enters thefuelsystem, remove theairby followingprocedure described below.

1. Setthesafetyleverat "LOCK"position, andstoptheengine.

2. Fillthetankup.

3. Checkthatthecockof fuelfilter is setat "OPEN"position.

Setthethrottle leverat "Highidling" position.

Turnstarteron andrepeatit two timesfor 15 seconds, thenhavethe enginecranking.

During cranking, thefuelis fedandthe fuel injectorstarts;and the engine starts immediately afterairis released.

NOTE : Don’t operate thestarter for15seconds or morecontinuously.

Ifitisnecessary tocrank for15seconds or more, stopcranking once, andstart cranking againby setting it at "START" position after approx.

30 seconds.

By movingthe primingleverat the side of fuelinjection pumpup anddown,thefuelis fedwhiletheengineis stopped.

Therefore, releasethe air beforehand, and the worktime is shortened.

OIL LEVEL CHECK AND CONTAMINATION

PREVENTION

Whenthe hydraulic breakeris notinstalled on themachine, attachtheblankplugsto thetube endon thearmtopendandthehoseendon thehydraulic breaker sideto prevent dustandwater fromentering intothepiping.

Beforestarting operation, checkthecapscrewson thetubefixingclamps forlooseness, andthe connections of thetubesandhosesforoilleakage.

THE CARRY-OVER

FUNCTION

Before operatingthe machine on which breaker, fork,nibbler, etc.areinstalled, remove the protectivetube ~ on the carryover port V of maincontrolvalve,loosen locknut<2_~,, andtighten setscrew ,~_~,.

Aftertightening it securely, donotfailtoinstalltheprotective tube~ again.

¯ NEVER USE BREAKER TO PRY AND BREAK FORCIBLY Do not use the breakerto pry and break rockand concrete.

This may damage the hydraulicbreaker, and alsoboom,arm and cylinder.

¯ STRICTLY PROHIBITED TO OPERATE THE ARM IN THE VERTICAL POSITION Thearmshouldnotbe operated in theverticalposition to prevent thearmcylinder from vertical shocks.

This may damagethe rod packingand pistonandcausetheoilleaking fromthosesections.

¯ DO NOT OPERATE THE BREAKER WITH THE ROD FULLY EXTENDED FROM THE CYLINDER Do notfullyextendthe rodfromthecylinder.

Using the rod fully extendedwill exert undue load on the cylinderand machine body,resultingin an extremely shortened machine life.

¯ STOP OPERATION WHEN THE HYDRAULIC HOSES SURGE Abnormalshakingof the hydraulic hose indicatesaccumulator puncture.Stop operationandcontactthe serviceshopspecified

¯ DO NOT DROP THE BREAKER TO CRUSH If thehydraulic breaker is dropped to crush rocks, each part may becomedamaged.Do not use gravitational forceand drop the breakerto crushrocks.
