Fastener lengths are also provided when they are being reused from one side to another.

This document covers the removal and installation process for changing the following REAR axle widths:

• 76 inch • 80 inch • 88 inch • 120 inch

IMPORTANT: Prevent leaks by cleaning all mating surfaces.

Choose the proper section for the disassembly and assembly as it pertains to the current axle width and the kit being installed.

NOTE: O-rings and seals are NOT supplied with any of the axle extension kits. All of the original O-rings are to be reused. However, in the event an O-ring or seal requires a replacement, the part number is called out where it is installed.

Depending on the width, some cap screws are reused from one side to the other. Order extra cap screws as required.

Preliminary Work for All Tractors 1. Park tractor on firm, level surface. Turn off the engine.

CAUTION: To avoid injury. Tractor must be fully supported and stable using support stands of sufficient capacity before removing or installing components.

2. Lift the front of the tractor until clearance exists between belt tread and ground.

3. Install JT07211 Cone Stands (A) and JDG1076B Support Stand (B) under each side of the front frame.

4. Move to the rear of the tractor.

5. Lift the rear of the tractor until clearance exists between belt tread and ground.

CAUTION: Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing serious injury.

Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all connections before applying pressure.

Search for leaks with a piece of cardboard. Protect hands and body from high-pressure fluids.

If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately.

Any fluid injected into the skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene can result. Doctors unfamiliar with this type of injury must reference a knowledgeable medical source. Such information is available from Deere & Company Medical Department in Moline, Illinois, U.S.A.

To avoid injury, tension kit valve must be in closed position when attaching either end of hose.

IMPORTANT: Foreign material can damage hydraulic system. Keep hydraulic couplers free from debris.

Track tensioning is best performed when the hydraulic oil in reservoir is less than 38°C (100°F). Track tensioning components are at least 4.5°C (40°F).

7. Remove cap screws (A) and cover (B).

9. Remove cap from the tension cylinder receptacle.

10. Make sure that the valve handle (B) is closed.

11. Attach RE592596 Track Tension Hose coupler (A).

13. Press SCV shortcut button on Navigation Bar.

18. Increase the flow setting by pressing (+ or ++) (D).

Decrease the flow setting by pressing (- or - -) (F). Set the flow setting to 5.00 (E).

14. Select SCV (A) on SCV main page that corresponds to SCV coupler with the tension hose installed.

15. Select Time tab (B).

16. Increase detent time to continuous by pressing (+) (D) detent time button.

19. Push the corresponding SCV control lever forward to the retract position.

20. Exit the tractor.

21. Open the hose valve handle (A) on the track tension hose.

22. Allow track to detention for one minute.

23. Close the valve handle.

24. Return SCV to neutral and stop the engine.

25. Disconnect the tension hose from the tension cylinder receptacle.

26. Clean up any spilled or leaked oil.

27. Repeat the procedure for the other side.

28. Once both tracks have been de-tensioned, disconnect the negative (—) battery cable.

29. Remove the plugs (A) and drain the fluid from both final drives into an approved container.

2. Remove the four socket head cap screws (C).

NOTE: The pictures shown in this section are that of a 76 inch wide tractor. The disassembly procedure for an 80 or an 88 inch wide tractor is similar.

CAUTION: The track frame assembly weighs approximately 2268 kg (5000 lb). Avoid injury by using proper lifting equipment.

NOTE: Having both rear tracks off the ground allows the drive wheels to be rotated.

3. Support the drive wheel and track frame. Remove cap screws (D).

1. Through the slots of drive wheel (A), remove cap screws (B). Gain access to all the cap screws by rotating the track.

CAUTION: Do not remove the recessed socket head cap screws yet as they hold the hub and the final drive to the axle housing.

CAUTION: Once the socket head cap screws are removed, dowel pins are the only thing supporting the hub and ring gear. Pry off the hub FIRST, then take the ring gear off the axle extension.

5. Support the drive hub. Remove the four socket head cap screws (A).

6. Remove the hub.

NOTE: Support and remove the hub by using JDG909 Lifting Eyes, chains, and an over head hoist.
