INTRODUCTION

To our customer Read this manual before using your collector. This manual provides the information necessary for operating your tractor safely and properly.

For safe operation, it is important to read and understand this manual in which you will find all safety precautions to be taken. Therefore, all safety instructions should be observed during operation.

The collector that you have purchased has been manufactured carefully and in order to give you the most satisfaction. As with every mechanical engine, it needs to be cleaned and taken care of. Lubricate it as indicated. Follow the safety instructions you will find in this manual and on the safety decals on the collector, the mower and the tractor.

Call on your ISEKI dealer for maintenance, original ISEKI spare parts and for any questions you might have.

Use only ISEKI spare parts. The use of other than genuine ISEKI spare parts might void any liability and warranty by ISEKI. Please note the model number and the serial number on the dots.

Do not operate the machine without the shooter and the suction tube

ASSEMBLY – START UP

Your ISEKI dealer is responsible for the assembling and start up of the mower.

Check off the checklists while assembling the machine. Put the mower on a flat and hard surface. Unpack all parts from the packing in order to find them easily during the assembly. Carefully read the following text and the list with spare parts.

Always wear protective gear for feet, eyes, hands and ears during the assembly.

Fasten the machine properly with a rope or put a wood wedge under it in order to avoid it falling in case of hydraulic or mechanic failure.

Unpack the collector, check if all parts are included (see the following lists):

1 - Mounting the link pins onto the tractor Put the link pins (see Figure 3 – A) into the lower holes of the tractor's chassis.

Put the stop washers (see Figure 2 – 2) and the nuts HM (see Figure 2 – 1) onto the link pins. Tighten well.

2 - Assembly of the lateral flanges Mount the right lateral flange (see Figure 1 – 1) with three bolts 10X20 and three stop washers 10 to the side of the tractor (see Figure 4 – A).

Repeat this procedure for the left lateral flange on the other side.

Note: the bolts are depicted in Figure 2 – 4 and the stop washers in Figure 2 – 5.

3 - Hydraulic assembly (SGR 19) Lift the rear of the tractor with a jack and support the right rear axle leaving the wheel lightly off the surface.

Remove the right rear wheel.

Carefully check whether the tractor has been supported well and that there is no risk of sliding or falling during assembly. This could cause serious crush injuries and even death.

Lift the rear hood of the tractor.

Uncouple the hose and the hydraulic tube (see Figure 6 – A & B) situated on the elbow connectors (Figure 5 – A & B).

Screw off the two elbow connectors.

Remove the connector delivered with the oil return hose (see Figure 1 – 5) and mount it in the place of elbow connector C. Remount connector D and the hydraulic tube.

Uncouple the female plug with rapid interlocking from the hose.

Couple the hose onto connector C (see Figure 6 – A). Pass it over the battery of the tractor.

Figure 5 Mount the rapid female plug you have just uncoupled onto the chassis to the left (see Figure 7). Rivet it to the chassis with the bolt and the stop nut (see Figure 2 – 9 & 10).

Couple the oil return hose onto the plug.

Couple the male/male connecting nut (see Figure 8 – A) onto the hose of the tractor (see Figure 5 – A).

Mount the male plug with rapid interlocking onto this connecting nut using some Teflon (see Figure 8 – B).

Close the circuit by connecting the male plug with the female plug which you have already mounted onto the chassis (see Figure 9).

Check whether all plugs of the hoses have been tightened or connected well.

Replace the right rear wheel of the tractor.

Close the hood.

The main causes of hydraulic system malfunctions is oil pollution. Make sure not to introduce any foreign matter into the hydraulic circuit.

INSTALLATION OF THE GRASS COLLECTOR

Before lifting up the grass collector, check whether: - the lifting device is fit for the weight of the machine; - all operators are at a safe distance so as to avoid being hit by ejected objects in case the machine should accidentally fall down.

Remove the lateral sides of the collector by way of the bolts depicted in Figure 10 – A. Hang the chassis of the collector on a rope by passing a strap as indicated in Figure 11, and lift it up.

Using a plug other than the one indicted in Figure 11 could be very dangerous both for the machine and for the operator.

Figure 10 Slowly back up the tractor so as to align the link pins (see Figure 12 – A) with the U of the grass collector's chassis (see Figure 12 – B). Engage the link pins into the U only when the whole has been well aligned.

Assemble the whole by putting the thick washers and fastening the stop nuts onto the link pins (see Figure 13 – A & B). Do not fasten completely.

Note: the washers are depicted in Figure 1 – 4 and the stop nuts in Figure 2 – 3.

Put the rings of the locking device (see Figure 14 – A) into the hooks of the lateral lock plates (see Figure 14 – B) and push on the handgrip so as to interlock the whole (see Figure 14 – C).

And fasten the screw under the handle A, so that the stoppers on the chassis of the collector push against the chassis of the tractor.

Figure 13 There should be no play at all between the rings and the hooks. Tune the play using the nuts situated under the handgrip.

Completely tighten the nuts of the link pins as soon as the locking of the grips has been established.

Lift the two supports of the blower: remove the pins (see Figure 15 – A) and the shafts (see Figure 15 – B). Lift the supports and replace the shafts by putting the pins back in.

1 - Assembling the hydraulic circuit Screw the two control levers left onto the hydraulic valve block of the collector. Tighten the counternuts of the levers.

Lift the rear hood of the tractor.

Remove the two left pins retaining the fuel tank of the tractor (see Figure 16 – A).

Pass the hydraulic hoses of the distributor and the electricity wire behind the mounting eye on the chassis (see Figure 17 –A). Replace the pins of the fuel tank.

Uncouple the hydraulic male plug situated underneath the chassis of the tractor. Connect it to the hydraulic hose coming from the distributor of the collector which is outfit with a female plug (see Figure 17 – B).

Connect the second hydraulic hose to the second female plug.

IMPORTANT Be sure to correctly connect the hydraulic plugs; serious damage may be the result if there is no oil circulating within the hydraulic system of the tractor.

The main causes of hydraulic system malfunctions is oil pollution. Make sure not to introduce any foreign matter into the hydraulic circuit.

Remove the female part of the white plug situated to the side of the frame member of the tractor.

Mount the cable lugs of the collector's level indicator onto the female part of the white plug (see Figure 17 – C).

Reconnect the female plug into its original position.

TEST: sit down into the driver's seat and engage. Ask someone to blow into the transparent plastic tube connected to the air intake port of the discharge tube of the blower. The sound signal indicating that the collector is full

Start the tractor.

Raise the collector.

RISK OF INTERFERENCE (Figure 18 – C) Each time you raise the collector with the supports out, be sure not to raise it any higher than the horizontal position (see Figure 18 – A); raising it any further will cause the supports of the collector (see Figure 18 – B) to twist.

Figure 18 Slip the pins out of the shafts and remove the shafts (see Figure 20 – B & C); these shafts sustain the two supports (see Figure 20 – A) of the collector. Repeat the same procedure with the securing bars of the cylinders (see Figure 20 – A). Fold down the two supports, replace the shafts and slip in the pin.

Raise the collector to its highest position and fold down the securing bars of the cylinders, which prevent the collector from suddenly falling in case of hydraulic failure of the tractor.

Replace the shafts (see Figure 20 – B) and slip the pin in again.

While working close to the collector in raised position, make sure to tie it up or to place a jack under it so as to prevent it from falling in case of hydraulic or mechanical failure.

Check the hydraulic oil level and fill if necessary as described in the maintenance manual. Only use ISEKI oil or SHELL Donax TD.

2 - Removing the blower Uncouple the electric wire of the pressure regulator (see Figure 21 – A).

Remove the bumper: unscrew the counternuts and the four bolts (see Figure 21 – B); pull the bumper upwards in order to remove it.

Remove the hood by unscrewing the bolt securing it (see Figure 21 – C).

Remove the clutch cable: unscrew and remove the thumb-button push rod (se Figure 22 – A) and unscrew nut B (see Figure 22 – B) a few turns.

Remove the blower by unscrewing the 3 bolts: 1 top bolt (see Figure 23 – A) and 2 side bolts (see Figure 23 – B).

Install the plastic cover of the intake shooter (see Figure 21bis – A) with the six bolts H 8X16, the stop washers and the flat washers (see Figure 21 – ??) by

inserting

underneath (see Figure 21bis – ??).

Install the transmission housing (see Figure 21ter – A) with the two bolts H 8X16, the stop washers and the flat Figure 23

washers (see Figure 21ter – B).

3 - Connecting the blower to the tractor by universal joint Move the SGR to the SBC.Stop the engine of the SGR an apply grease to the spline of the rear PTO shaft.

Aligning the spline of the PTO shaft and that of the universal joint. After the PTO shaft and universal joint are connected, never attempt to start the engine before the installation is completed.

Then install the blower assembly on the collector frame ahead of time and fix it with bolts securely and install the front and rear belt covers of the blower assembly.

Install the collector frame on the SGR. Make sure that the collector setting pins and the collector catching hooks have been installed on the SGR. Move the SGR slowly to the collector frame while aligning the bottom U-shaped part of the frame to the collector setting pins.

When the U-shaped part is placed on the collector setting pin, tighten the retaining nut onto the pin to the extent where the washer turns smoothly by hand.

SBC500GHW Engage the collector mounting hook. After engagement , make sure that the collector frame stopper is in contact with the rear frame of the SGR. Retain the collector frame on the SGR On the collector the hook should be installed on the frame with the M8 bolts.

The collector hook should be installed on the frame using M16 bolts.

SBC500GWL Tighten the M16 bolts on the collector mounting plate . Then make sure that the stopper is in contact with the rear frame of the tractor. Fasten the collector frame on the SGR . Tighten M16 bolts on the collector mounting plate. After installation make sure that the stopper of the collector is in contact with the tractor frame.

Carefully check whether the tractor has been supported well and that there is no risk of sliding or falling during assembly. This could cause serious crush injuries and even death.

Installation of SBC PTO shaft (fig 24-A)

Align the lower pulley on the constantly tensioned belt drive side with flange of the universal joint and tighten it on the pulley using the 4 7T bolts (M8x20) . Tightening torque:30N.m. Apply grease through the grease fitting . Making sure that the SGR is stable , start the engine and let it turn at idle speed. Never attempt to accelerate the engine.

After having made certain that the pulleys and universal joints produce neither abnormal noise , nor vibration , stop the engine. Install the right hand wheel and remove the rigid rack.

Tighten the collector setting pins securely.

Check the transmission oil level and replenish with oil if required.

4 - Installation of the mower deck Slide the mower shooter into the collector intake. Keep it in upright position by fastening it to the chassis of the tractor using the hook provided for this (see Figure 27 – A).

Move the mower deck underneath the tractor and lock it to the mower shooter by inserting the shafts (see Figure 28 – A) into the holes of the mower shooter (see Figure 28 – B).

Install the mower deck as described in the operating

manual of the tractor.

5 - Installation of the counterweight ( 45 Kg ) Unscrew the two bolts situated to each side of the front of the tractor by a few turns; they have already been fitted with a lock washer and a washer (see Figure 29 – A). Rest the lateral notches of the counterweight on these bolts (have someone help you!).

Screw the four other bolts with their washers into the holes indicated in Figure 29 – B. Tighten the two lateral bolts completely.

START UP AND TRY OUT Start the machine and let it idle, check whether there is no vibration or abnormal noise. Operate the raise and dumping controls a couple of times. Put the collector in loading position and stop the engine. Engage the blower and check whether there is no vibration or abnormal noise.

Make yourself accustomed with the mower deck equipped with the grass collector. Work for a couple of hours in easy conditions on a flat surface with short grass. The tractor's progress will be slower than the normal speed. Read the chapter on "Control" to learn about the controls and levers.

STARTING THE BLOWER

Before starting the blower, be sure that the collector is in the lowest position on the stopper plates.

The control at the right of the driver’s seat disengages the blower and the collector (see Figure 30).

Beneath this control a pictogram (see Figure 31) indicates that the blower is engaged when the lever is pushed completely forward and that it is disengaged when the lever is moved rearwards into the neutral position. Before disengaging the blower, put the engine on the idle to avoid abrupt workings of the transmission.

EMPTYING THE COLLECTOR

Disengage the blower and the PTO of the mower deck before emptying the collector. Wait until all rotating components have stopped.

Before raising or emptying the collector, be sure that it will not hit any object during the operation.

Pay particular attention to fences and electric lines. Perform all manoeuvres on a flat and hard surface.

To empty the collector, use the right lever on the hydraulic valve that is located to the left of the driver’s seat (see Figure 32).

Behind this lever, a pictogram (see Figure 33) indicates that the collector tips and opens when the lever is pulled to the rear, and that it closes and returns in collecting position when the lever is pushed forward. The lever returns to the neutral position automatically.

To raise the collector, use the left lever on the hydraulic valve that is located to the left of the driver’s seat (see Figure 32). Beneath this lever, a pictogram (see Figure 34) indicates that the collector is raised when the lever is pulled to the rear, and that it closes and returns to the collecting position when the lever is pushed forward. The lever returns to the neutral position automatically.

OPERATION

Safety is one of our principal preoccupations during the design and the manufacturing process of this collector. Therefore, all efforts of the constructor may be annihilated by the operator’s negligence.

Avoiding accidents depends on the prudence and the training of personnel charged with operation and servicing this machine.

The best safety device is a prudent and informed operator; we ask you to be this operator.

The operator of this machine is responsible for its safe operation. He has to be a qualified and trained person who understands the operation of the tractor as well as of the mower. Read the safety instructions at the beginning of this manual.

This machine is designed to collect grass and leaves. It is not designed to collect solid objects such as stones, debris or sticks that might damage the machine and might injure the operator.

Adapt the ground speed to the density and the amount of grass to be collected. The most suitable speed is between 3 and 10 km/h.

Never use the collector when the collector is not fully lowered into the stopper plates.

- Never authorise children or unqualified persons to operate the machine.

- Do not use this machine near other persons or objects that could be hurt by projecting objects.

- Do not allow other persons on the tractor when mowing and collecting.

Always wear tight fitting clothing in order to avoid clothes being dragged into the machine by moving components. Wear protective devices for your head, your eyes, your ears, your hands and your feet.

Before raising or emptying the collector, be sure that it will not hit any object during the operation.

Pay particular attention to fences and electric lines.

IMPORTANT: Check the points described in the chapter maintenance daily before operating the collector.

STARTING TO COLLECT GRASS Start the engine and let it idle, then engage the blower. Let it turn for a few seconds in order to gain speed, and then engage the PTO of the mower deck.

Move the throttle control lever to maximum engine speed.

Do not engage the blower while the engine is running at full speed for this could force and damage the transmission.

MOWING AND COLLECTING GRASS

Always inspect the mowing area for solid objects such as stones, sticks and other debris which could be projected and which could cause damages to the collector. Choose a higher cut setting before mowing a lawn for the first time in order to detect hidden obstacles. Never presume that a lawn is free of such obstacles, check it!

Drive at low ground speed on the lawn, once the blower and the mower are engaged. Always keep the engine at full throttle.

Lower the ground speed if the engine speed starts to diminish so that the engine speed gains full throttle thus maintaining PTO speed.

Because the operation of the collector requires more power, it is quite normal that the ground speed is lower when compared to mowing without collecting.

Under normal circumstances, the ground speed depends on the grass to be cut, its density and its height.

Therefore, high and dense grass will have to be collected by moving slowly whereas low grass can be mown more rapidly. Depending on ground condition , sinking of gauge wheel is different. Especially in soft ground condition , set cutting height at higher position tentatively by 1 to 3 steps from suitable position before operation and check cutting height.

Under certain circumstances, it might happen that grass is cut but not collected. In such cases, keeping the engine at full throttle should reduce the ground speed. If this is not a solution, choose a higher cut setting or cut the grass a second time at the desired cutting height. Remember that it is better to cut more often but

not too low; actually, grass which is cut too low is not resistant during the dry season and will enable weeds to spread more rapidly.

Sharp blades need less power and assure better collecting performance.

Keep bystanders who might be hurt by projecting objects, dust or noise from the mowing area.

The use of the collector may reduce the stability of your machine. Be cautious on slopes and reduce the ground speed, avoid abrupt starts and stops or sharp turns.

On a bumpy surface Avoid cutting and collecting grass across the face of a slope; drive the slope up and down. Keep the collector as empty as possible, thus making sure to keep the centre of gravity low and to improve the stability of the machine. When crossing a ditch or a fold in the surface, drive the tractor slowly and diagonally through or over it, thus avoiding shocks.

EMPTYING THE COLLECTOR While mowing, it is important to check the filling degree of the collector regularly by looking at the indicator.

When the collector is full, the indicator will light up; disengage the mower before disengaging the blower.

When the cutting blades and the collector have come to a complete stop, lift up the mower deck and drive to the area of discharge.

Back up next to the discharge area and take care not to hit any object when emptying the collector. Stop the machine and apply the parking brake.

Emptying on the ground (see Figure 35): move the right lever on the hydraulic valve left of the driver's seat until the door is completely open, let the clippings drop to the ground and close the door with the same lever.

When emptying without the collector being raised, be careful so as not to hit the surface with the door. Stop the movement of the collector before the door hits the surface.

Emptying on a heap or a trailer (see Figure 36): move the lift lever to raise the collector to the desired height and then operate the lever to open the door. When the collector is empty, return it to its collecting position.

Never raise the collector when the tractor is moving, only drive it when the mowing blades have stopped completely and when the parking brake is not applied. Raising the collector when the tractor is in motion might cause damages to the collector or to the mower deck. If you operate the collector when driving, you risk endangering the stability of the machine and thus turning over.

FULL OR CLOGGED COLLECTOR When the engine speed keeps diminishing even when the ground speed is reduced, this indicates that the collector is full or clogged. In order to start working normally again, empty the collector as indicated in the previous paragraph and then proceed as follows: - Make sure that the PTO of the mower deck and of the blower are both disengaged.

- Apply the parking brake, stop the engine and remove the starter key.

Never allow another person on the driver’s seat while you are checking or servicing the tractor or collector.

Fasten the machine properly with a rope or put a wood wedge under it in order to avoid it falling in case of hydraulic or mechanic failure.

- Remove the trap door situated on the mower shooter by unlocking the latch by a quarter turn (see Figure 38 – A) and remove the accumulated clippings from the interior of the mower shooter.

- Move the unclogging lever situated on the mower deck (see Figure 37) back and forth so as to get rid of the accumulated clippings.

- Reposition the trap door of the mower shooter and lock it.

- Engage only the blower in order to check on its proper functioning.

Now the machine is ready to start working again.

MAINTENANCE Stop the engine and disengage PTO and transmission before servicing or performing maintenance on the machine. Apply the parking brake and remove the starter key.

Do not let any person near the driver’s seat.

DAILY MAINTENANCE, BEFORE EVERY USE 1 - Greasing Do not apply too much grease, especially when operating the machine in dusty areas. Clean the grease nipples on the bearings and apply two shots of a NLGI nr. 2 grease.

•

Grease up the highest bearing of the blower (see Figure 39 – A) and the interior bearing of the blower (see Figure 40 – A).

•

Grease up the transmission (Figure 41 – A).

•

Grease up the front and rear shafts of the parallelogram (see Figure 42 – A).

IMPORTANT: maximum greasing pressure: 10 bar.

2 - Torque of the fasteners Check the torque of all fasteners as indicated in the torque chart at the end of this manual. The bolts and nuts can loosen by the vibrations from the mower deck.

3 - Cleaning the screen Remove any grass clippings from the screens of the collector. Clean screens will insure good collecting and complete filling performances.

4 - Safety decals Check whether the safety decals are placed and in good state. Replace them immediately when damaged.

MAINTENANCE EVERY 50 HOURS 1 - State of the blower fins Check the blower fins. They should not be twisted, damaged or dented. A damaged fin could bring the blower out of balance.

2 - Tension of the clutch drive belt Remove the protective screen and check the state of the belt: it should not be split, fissured or frayed.

Replace it immediately if it is damaged. Check the tension; a well tensioned belt should have a free play (see Figure 43 – A) of 10 mm under a force of 2 kg.

A loose belt will slip, will not transmit movement well and will risk wearing out very rapidly, whereas a belt which has been tightened too much will force the bearings and will provoke early failure.

If the free play of the belt is not correct, proceed as follows.

Unscrew the nuts of the tensioning system of the clutch release cable (see Figure 43 – B & C).

Unscrew nut B some turns and tighten nut C in order to tighten the belt.

Unscrew nut C some turns and tighten nut B in order to loosen the belt.

Tighten the two nut completely as soon as the belt had been correctly tightened.

Check the belt tension again. Adapt the tension again if it is still not correct.

3 - Tension of the blower drive belt Check the state of the belt after having removed the blower (see "Removing the blower", page 17); the belt should not be split, fissured or frayed. Replace it immediately if it is damaged. The belt tension is correct when the distance between the turns of the spring (see Figure 44 – B) equals 1,3 millimetres (see Figure 45).

If this is not the case, proceed as follows.

Unscrew the nuts (see Figure 44 – A).

Slip a wedge of 1,3 millimetres between two turns of the spring.

If the space between the two turns is too big, unscrew top nut A a few turns, and screw bottom nut A equally some turns.

Retighten the nuts when the space between the turns equals 1,3 millimetres.

Check the space between the turns again. Adapt the tension again if it is still not correct.

4 - After every mowing season or once a year - Clean the entire machine and pay special attention to the components where the clippings can accumulate: the collector intake, the discharge tube of the blower, the mower shooter and the collector itself. Eliminate all grass accumulations for they diminish the performance of the machine.

After having cleaned the machine with water, grease up the bearings and engage the blower in order to get rid of any water that might have accumulated in the blower.

- Check if the blower shaft turns freely and that there is no free play. Replace if necessary.

- Check the hydraulic hoses: they should not be flattened, worn or torn. Replace if necessary.

- Check the transmission oil: empty the oil tank and refill it with new oil. Replace the oil filter, check for any oil leaks, retighten the leak-off adapter and renew the flexible couplings if necessary.

Only use ISEKI oil or SHELL Donax TD.

Escaping hydraulic fluid under high pressure may penetrate the skin and may cause blood poisoning. Never check for leaks using your hands or fingers; use a piece of cardboard or wood instead. If you do get injured by hydraulic fluid, seek medical advice immediately.

- Check the torque of all fasteners. Torque the bolts and nuts as specified in the torque chart (see below).

- Check whether the safety decals are placed and in good state. Replace them immediately when damaged.

WARRANTY Every new collector SBC 500 GHW distributed by ISEKI has a one (1) year warranty following the conditions below against defective construction and assembly and/or materials as long as it is properly used. This warranty does not cover non-original ISEKI accessories and parts.

1° This warranty covers the replacement of ISEKI parts during a one (1) year period, after approval by the ISEKI importer.

2° Every spare part, subject or warranty claim, together with the contract of sale, has to be returned carefully packed to the ISEKI importer for inspection, reparation or replacement.

3° The machine has to be maintained by an authorised ISEKI dealer. This warranty does not apply to parts that have been damaged by accident, alternation, abuse, improper lubrication or normal wear.
