a. Remove the bolt LH & RH of blades and blade collars. (Refer to “2. INSPECTION & REPLACEMENT OF BLADES”) b. Loosen the bolts, then remove the drive shaft cover. Remove the bolt, then remove the joint cover. (SCMA54 only) c. Slide the snap ring fixing the coupling, gather both couplings close, take out the drive shaft. d. Loosen the fixing nuts of gear cases, remove both LH & RH gear cases. e. Remove the level plug and oil filler plug. Then drain all the oil by tilting the gear case. f. Wrap the threads of both plugs with sealing tape and pour new oil using an oil feeder. g. Make sure that the oil overflows through the level plug hole. Then screw both plugs in. h. Assemble both LH & RH gear cases on deck. i. Assemble the drive shaft, fix the couplings by snap rings. j. Assemble the drive shaft cover and joint cover. k. Assemble the both LH & RH blades and blade collars. (Refer to “2. INSPECTION & REPLACEMENT OF BLADES”)

CAUTION: There is a possibility that there are shims for height adjustment between gear case and deck, so that check the assembling position and number of shims.

CAUTION: In case there are shims for height adjustment, reinstall the shims into same position by same pieces as before.

1-1 INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT OF GEAR CASE OIL (SSM54)

・Inspection of oil level

IMPORTANT: Check the oil level after every 50 hours of operation. Remove the level plug located on the left side wall of the gear case. Check to see if a small amount of oil overflows through the plug hole. If so, the level is normal. If not, replenish with gear oil SAE80 through the plug hole using an oil pitcher or the like.

(2) Gear case mount d. Remove the gear case mount by removing the four bolts. e. Remove the level plug and drain plug. Then drain all oil by tilting the gear case. f. Wrap the threads of the drain plug with sealing tape and screw it in and supply with fresh oil through the level plug hole using an oil pitcher. [Gear oil SAE80, capacity: 0.4 liter.)].

IMPORTANT: Before replacing the level plug, be sure to wrap the threads with sealing tape without fail, or oil may leak through the plug.

Replacement of oil

IMPORTANT: Replace oil after the initial 50 hours of operation and then after every 200 hours of operation.

a. Remove the mower blade which is attached to the shaft of the gear case referring to the instructions for the replacement of the mower blades.

b. Detach the drive shaft cover and both belt covers (LH and RH) by loosening the tightening nuts.

c. Loosen the lock nut for the tension rod and remove the tension spring.

g. Wrap the threads of the level plug with sealing tape and re-install it.

IMPORTANT: All oil spilled on the gear case mount should be wiped off completely with cloth. If it is not, the belt may be smeared with oil and become slippery.

h. Tighten the gear case mounting plates securely with bolts.

i. Make sure that the belt runs around the pulleys as shown and it is completely seated in the belt ways of each pulley. Then give proper tension to the tension spring with the tension rod.
