PREPARING TO OPERATE

3. Loosen the leg mounting bolts on both the front and rear legs on one side of the sprayer only (fig. 4.3).

Loosen leg mounting bolts only enough to allow for free movement of leg on mainframe.

DO NOT remove bolts under any condition.

4. Loosen the rear lock nut on the leg brace (fig. 4.4). This will allow one leg to move further than the other without binding while adjusting the tread setting.

5. Lubricate the slide path the leg mount will travel along mainframe.

6. Wrap a chain around the top of the leg and the steering arm before raising the sprayer (fig. 4.5). This will prevent the suspension from telescoping.

7. Raise the sprayer until the tires on the side being adjusted are just touching the ground.

OPERATING INFORMATION

Multi-Function Valves Each Series 90 pump is equipped with two multifunction valves (fig. 5.7). These valves incorporate the system check valve, the pressure limiter valve, the high pressure relief valve, and the bypass valve.

When the pre-set pressure is reached, the pressure limiter system acts to rapidly de-stroke the pump in order to limit the system pressure.

Charge Pressure To monitor the closed loop system (hydrostatic pump), install a 500 PSI pressure gauge at the charge pressure port (see fig. 5.8). Start the engine and open the throttle to full RPM. The charge pressure should be between 348 and 365 PSI. If it is below the required pressure, contact the Hagie Customer Support Department.

Loop Flushing Valve The hydrostatic pump is equipped with a loop flushing valve (fig. 5.9). It is used to remove fluid from the hydrostatic FIG 5.8

system for cooling and removal of contamination.

NOTE: The loop flushing valve has been factory set.

OPERATING INFORMATION Hydraulic Tread Adjust The Hagie 284 is available with hydraulic tread adjust. It is operated by a switch located on the console panel (fig. 5.16). Three separate range options for tread adjust width are available on a standard width machine and one range is available on the wide machine option (fig. 5.17). For information about operating the hydraulic tread adjust see page 40.

Booms The sprayer has hydraulic cylinders which aid in lifting the transom and booms for height adjustment (fig.

5.18, item 1), adjusting each boom separately for a level spraying pattern (fig. 5.18, item 2), folding the booms in toward the machine during transportation and storage (fig. 5.18, item 3), and folding the boom extensions in for transportation and storage (fig. 5.18, item 4). For more information on boom control adjustment see pages 43-48.

NOTE: The hydraulic tread adjust bearing clearance has been factory set. If further adjustment is required for more or less clearance, additional shims will need to be added or removed (see page 120).

Before you hydraulically adjust the tread: 1. Make sure the nylon material on the tread adjustment brackets on both the front and rear legs have an adequately lubricated surface to slide on during adjustment (fig. 5.19).

2. Survey the surroundings and allow yourself enough room to adjust tread either in forward or reverse.

FIG 5.20 3. Locate the hydraulic tread adjust switch on the console panel (fig. 5.20). To adjust the tread in or out, depress and hold the corresponding side of the switch.

NOTE: Always adjust tread between 1 and 2 MPH; it may be adjusted in forward or reverse.

OPERATING INFORMATION

NOTE: When operating the hydraulic tread adjust you will notice a squealing-type noise. This noise is the hydraulic fluid reaching the relief setting. Do not be alarmed of this noise during adjustment.

4. Since the tread adjust cylinder and the tie rod cylinders fill at different rates (fig. 5.21 and fig.

5.22), you may find it helpful to cycle the steering cylinders back and forth while adjusting the tread.

5. When all of the tread cylinders and tie rod cylinders have stroked completely, release the hydraulic

and resume

Solution Pump The spray system’s solution pump is powered by a hydraulic motor (fig. 5.23) in a system it shares only with the hydraulic tread adjust system. Most likely, the hydraulic tread adjust will never be operated at the same time as the solution pump. Therefore the solution pump, theoretically is powered exclusively by its very own gear pump. This means operation of another system (other than hydraulic tread adjust) will not affect the solution pump’s FIG 5.23

Power Steering The full-time power steering system consists of a hydraulic steering motor (mounted on the end of the steering shaft) which FIG 5.24

5.25, item 1) mounted on a steering pivot (fig. 5.25, item 2) which oscillates a pair of tie rods (fig. 5.25, item 3) going to each steering leg. This system is powered by one of the hydraulic dual

gear pumps driven by the sprayer’s engine. Since these gear pumps are sensitive to engine RPM (the higher the RPM the higher the oil flow), it is best to always operate the sprayer at full

Fence Row Applicator To operate the optional fence row nozzle (fig. 5.68) locate the fence row switch at the front of the switch control panel (fig.

5.69). If you wish to turn on either the right or left fence row nozzle, depress the corresponding “RIGHT” or “LEFT” side of the fence row switch. To turn either fence row nozzle off, return the fence row switch back to the center (“OFF”) position.

As you engage either fence row nozzle you may notice a FIG 5.68

drop in solution pressure.

A lighted indicator mounted next to the fence row switch will inform the operator of fence row status. If the right fence row nozzle is on, the right indicator arrow is lit (fig. 5.70, item 2). If the left fence row nozzle is on, the left indicator arrow is lit (fig.

5.70, item 1). If neither indicator arrow is lit, no solution is being applied through the fence row nozzles.

The strainer on top of each tank (fig. 5.76, item 2) should always be in place to catch debris or objects from falling into the tank when the tank lid is removed. Both solution tanks come equipped with sight gauges showing solution level (fig. 5.75).

OPERATING INFORMATION AGITATION SYSTEM The Hagie 284 comes standard with a hydraulically-driven mechanical agitation system to maintain suspension of solution in the sprayer’s tanks.

To activate the system push the “TANK AGITATION” lever (fig. 5.83) forward, opening the hydraulic variable flow control valve (fig. 5.84). This will deliver hydraulic fluid to agitator motors on both solution tanks (fig. 5.85) turning the agitator shaft assemblies clockwise. The further you push the lever ahead, the faster the agitation assembly shafts will rotate.

NOTE: Operation of the agitation system with no solution in the spray tanks will void the warranty on the agitation system.

To turn the agitation system off, return the “TANK AGITATION” lever back to its original position.

Foamer Operation To operate the foam marking system, locate the toggle switch on the hydrostat control handle (fig. 5.88). It controls a pair of valves on the pressurized stainless steel foam tank (fig.

5.87) which force foam to the foam drop tubes on the end of each outer boom (fig. 5.90).

Push the toggle switch to the left if foam is desired from the left boom tip. Push the toggle switch to the right if foam is desired from the right boom tip. Return the toggle switch to the FIG 5.87

middle position if no foam is desired.

System pressure is indicated by a pressure gauge on the regulator which is mounted below the spray system monitor (fig.

5.89). To adjust the air pressure in the foam tank, turn the knob on

the

regulator

clockwise

for

more

pressure,

and

counterclockwise for less pressure. To correctly decrease the pressure in the foam tank, you must first open either the left or right foam valve for a moment to relieve system pressure. Then adjust regulator accordingly. For maintenance of the foam marker system see page 122.

Before performing any service or refilling of the foam marker, shut the engine off and relieve system pressure from the tank.

DO NOT stand directly over or in front of valves when opening.

Relieve pressure from the tank by opening the ¼” ball valve on the side of the foam tank (fig. 5.91, item 2). Close the ball valve after pressure is relieved. Open the top 2” ball valve (fig. 5.91, item 1). Add water to the tank (fig. 5.92), leaving FIG 5.91

enough room for the foam concentrate. Next add the foam concentrate according to the label on the container. After filling is complete, close the 2” ball valve on top of the tank. Start the sprayer’s engine and adjust the air pressure accordingly.

To swing the foamer tank out for accessing service areas (fig. 5.94), release the foam tank plate lock handle (fig. 5.93).

When finished servicing area return the tank to original position and lock it in place.

OPERATING INFORMATION

The Hagie 284 comes available with a rinse system for flushing the spray system (tanks, solution pump, and booms). The rinse tank, located on the rear of the machine (fig. 5.95), has a holding capacity of 45 gallons.

Rinse solution flows from the rinse tank to the solution pump. The rinse passes through a flowcheck valve (fig. 5.96). The valve keeps the rinse line clean from spray solution when the rinse FIG 5.95

system is idle. The solution pump pumps the rinse through a rotary nozzle into either solution tank (fig. 5.97).

Refer to chemical manufacturer’s guide for types of cleaning solution combinations (plain water, cleaning agents, etc.). See the next page for operation of the rinse system.

OPERATING INFORMATION LIGHTS CAB LIGHTS – The front of the cab houses four halogen field lamps (fig. 5.107) and the rear houses two halogen work lamps (fig. 5.106). Locate the light switch on the console panel (fig. 5.104). Rotating the switch clockwise to the first “ON” position (fig. 5.105B) will activate two of the front cab lights.

Rotating the switch clockwise to the second “ON” position (fig.

5.105C) will activate the other two front cab lights in addition to the two rear cab lights.

The ignition key does not have to be on in order to operate FIG 5.104

OPERATING INFORMATION Running Lights Activating any of the cab lights (see page 74) will also turn on the “RED” running lights on the rear of the machine (fig. 5.108) or, if equipped with rinse system option, the red running lights below the rinse system tank (fig. 5.109).

OPERATING INFORMATION Steering Column To adjust the Hagie 284’s steering column for driver comfort or to ease cab exit and entry, locate the tilt lock lever in the center of the column (fig. 5.132). Push down on the lever to release the lock (fig. 5.133). Pull or push the column to the desired position and release the lever to re-lock the steering column.

Auxiliary Power Supplies FIG 5.132

The Hagie 284 has two auxiliary power supplies in the cab for powering 12 volt accessories. They are both “hot” regardless of ignition key position. Turn the accessory off if the engine is not running for an extended period of time.

The cigarette lighter-type (fig. 5.135, item 1) and the binding post-type (fig. 5.135, item 2) power supplies are located in the panel below the spray system monitor. Replace the insulated plug when not using the cigarette lighter-type power supply.

2. Unloading: When moving the sprayer off of a trailer, follow these steps completely: a. Pull the trailer to flat ground. Apply the pulling vehicle’s parking brake and turn off the engine.

Use tire chocks to keep the trailer from moving. b. Lower the trailer ramps and set ramp spacing for the sprayer’s tread setting. c.

Release securing restraints carefully.

d. Get someone to help guide off the trailer. Keep everyone a safe distance from the sprayer. e. Uncover or replace the SMV (Slow Moving Vehicle) emblem.

SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE ELECTRICAL Battery SAFETY

Batteries contain sulfuric acid. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Do not inhale fumes or ingest liquid. Batteries contain gases which can explode. Keep sparks and flame away while servicing.

When servicing electrical system always disconnect the battery. Remove ground cable first and connect it last.

CLEANING - Disconnect battery cables from battery.

Remove all corrosion with a wire brush or battery post brush (fig. 8.42). Wash the cable connections and battery posts with a weak solution of baking soda or ammonia. Apply petroleum jelly or grease to prevent future corrosion. Reconnect the cables to the battery making sure they are tight. Clean every 100 hours.

Converting the Speed Display from MPH to km/h

HA8.0 MPH \ RPM Indicator Record the current speed parameter value: Press and hold the right MPH push button until all 8’s appear (88:88).

Release the push button and record the value that is displayed. For our example we are going to record the displayed value as 119.2 To convert from MPH to km/h we multiply the value by 1.609 For this example 119.2 x 1.609 = 191.8 The new km/h parameter will be 191.8 for this example.

Leave idle for 5 seconds and the display will return to the normal mode before going on to the next step.

Enter the new speed parameter value for km/h: The display will return to the normal mode if left idle for 5 seconds so the next steps need to be performed quickly.

Press and hold the right MPH push button until all 8’s appear (88:88) and then release.

Use the two push buttons to change the speed parameter to the new value. For our example the new value is 191.8 Leave both buttons idle for 5 seconds and the display will return to the normal mode.

The displayed speed will now be in km/h.

NOTE: The value can be changed faster by first pressing one button and while holding it depressed, press the other button. It can also be sped up by pressing and holding one button down for a couple of seconds.

INTRODUCTION The Raven SCS 460 (SPRAYER CONTROL SYSTEM) is designed to improve the uniformity of spray applications. Its performance relies on the installation and preventive maintenance of the complete sprayer. It is important that this Installation and Service Manual be reviewed thoroughly before operating the system. This manual provides a simple stepby-step procedure for installing and operating.

The SCS 460 system consists of a computer-based Control Console, a Speed Sensor, a turbine type Flow Meter and a motorized Control Valve. The Console mounts directly in the cab of the vehicle for easy operator use. The Radar Speed Sensor is mounted to the frame of the vehicle or implement (wheel drive and speedometer Drive Speed Sensors are also available.) The motorized Control Valve and Flow Meter mount to the framework supporting the boom valves. Appropriate cabling is furnished for field installation.

The operator sets the target volume per area to be sprayed and the SCS 460 automatically maintains the flow regardless of vehicle speed or gear selection. A manual override switch allows the operator to manually control flow for system check-out and spot spraying. Actual volume per area being applied is displayed at all times. The SCS 460 additionally functions as an area monitor, speed monitor and volume totalizer.

NOTE: The SCS 460 Control Console is designed to be used with external Boom switches.

In order for the Console to know when and which Boom is ON or OFF, Boom signal wires are provided.

INSTALLATION 1.

MOUNTING THE RAVEN RADAR SPEED SENSOR See Appendix 1 for Wheel Drive Speed Sensor installation instructions.

See Appendix 2 for Speedometer Drive Speed Sensor installation instructions.

For mounting the radar, the following guidelines will assure proper installation: It is suggested that a large heavy mounting bracket, (P/N 107-0159-693) be attached to the vehicle frame for mounting the radar.

Park vehicle on level surface.

2)

Select mounting site by considering the following: a) The line of sight from the lens to the ground must not be obstructed by structures or tires. Obstructions must not come closer than 20 inches to the bottom of the radar. See Figures 1 and 2. b) The radar lens must be parallel to the ground from front to back. Radar can be tilted out 0-15 degrees to provide more clearance and miss obstructions. See Figure 2. c) The radar should be mounted so that the length of the radar is parallel with direction of vehicle travel.

Use carpenters level to verify that mounting bracket is parallel to the ground.

Bolt mounting bracket to implement.

5)

Bolt radar to mounting bracket using mounting hardware.

6)

Connect radar with Radar Interface Cable (P/N 115-0159-539), to the Console.

The Red wire should be connected to the Orange cable wire. The White wire should be connected to the White cable wire (See "BATTERY CONNECTIONS").

CAUTION:

The connection of the radar power in reverse polarity could result in damage to the Radar.

MOUNTING THE FLOW METER AND OPTIONAL PRESSURE TRANSDUCER

FLOWMETER 1)

Mount Flow Meter in the area of the boom valves per Figure 4. All flow through Flow Meter must go to booms only, i.e., no return line to tank or pump after Flow Meter.

2)

Mount Flow Meter horizontal to the ground.

For best results, allow a minimum of 7 1/2 inches [20 cm] of straight hose on inlet of Flow Meter. Bend radius of hose on outlet of Flow Meter should be gradual.

Flow must be in direction of arrow on Flow Meter.

NOTE:It is essential, when using suspensions, that the system be thoroughly rinsed out each day after use.

OPTIONAL PRESSURE TRANSDUCER 1)

Mount optional pressure transducer, part #422-0000-059, on desired location.

Use cables 115-0171-152 (or 115-0171-153)and 115-0171-151.

2)

With pump turned off and 0 PSI [kPa] on the lines, enter 0 for pressure calibration (cal pressure) under Data Menu Key.

3)

When system is operating, system PSI [kPa] will be displayed when the or

key is depressed.

MOUNTING THE CONTROL VALVE

1)

Mount the motorized Control Valve in the main hose line between the Flow Meter and the booms, with motor in the upright position. (For flow less than 3 GPM [11 lit/min] the motorized Control Valve is mounted in a by-pass line. Refer to Appendix 3 for alternate plumbing diagram).

2)

Connect the Flow Control Cable connectors to boom valves, Flow Meter, and motorized Control Valve. (Black wire to boom valve #1, Brown wire to boom valve #2, Blue wire to boom valve #3, Blk/Wht wire to boom valve #4, Brn/Wht wire to boom valve #5, Blu/Wht wire to boom valve #6 and Wht/Blk to boom valve #7).

MOUNTING THE CONSOLE AND CABLING

1)

Mount the Console to a secure support inside the cab of the vehicle.

2)

Connect the Console Control Cable to the plug in the back of the Console.

(Reference Figure 5). Route the Console Control Cable out of the vehicle cab and terminate. (Flow Meter extension cables are available from your Dealer).

3)

Turn POWER ON/OFF switch OFF and route the Red and White battery wires to a 12volt battery. Attach the White battery wires to the NEGATIVE (-) terminal and the Red battery wire directly to the POSITIVE (+) battery terminal. (See Figure 6 on page 8). (DO NOT CONNECT RED AND WHITE WIRES TO THE STARTER). Secure the battery wires with plastic cable ties. DO NOT tie the battery wires close to the existing battery leads or any other electrical wiring.

4)

Connect the Speed Sensor to the plug in the back of the Console.

5)

Secure and tie the Speed Sensor Cable and the Console Control Cable with plastic cable ties.

6)

Initial installation of the system is now complete.

In order for the Console to know when and which Boom is ON or OFF, boom signal wires are provided. The Console recognizes a boom ON whenever +12 VDC is applied to the boom signal wire. Connect the boom signal wire to the switched side of the boom valve.

Broadcast Spraying Calculate the width of each boom in inches [cm] by multiplying the number of tips times the spacing.

Write these boom widths down for future reference when programming the Console.

CALCULATING "VALVE CAL"

The initial recommended Control Valve calibration number for VALVE CAL is 2123 for C-SD (standard valve), 743 C-FC (fast close valve), 743 C-F (fast valve), 43 C-P (PWM valve) or 43 C-PC (PWM close valve). The VALVE CAL number is used to control response time of the control valve motor to the change in vehicle speed.

CONSOLE PROGRAMMING When entering data into the Console, the entry sequence is always the same.

NOTE: DATA MUST BE ENTERED FOR ALL BOOMS. ENTER "0" IF BOOM IS NOT USED. DATA MUST ALSO BE ENTERED IN KEYS 3 THRU 8.

Depress the key in which you wish to enter data.

Depress the ENTER key. An "E" will illuminate in the display.

Depress the keys corresponding to the number you wish to enter (i.e. "2","1","2", "3").

The numbers will be displayed as they are entered.

Complete the entry by again depressing the ENTER key.

INITIAL CONSOLE PROGRAMMING When Console power is turned on, after all installation procedures have been completed, the Console will flash CAL and US VOLUME PER ACRE. This means the console must be "calibrated", or programmed, before it can be operated. This is a one-time operation which does not have to be repeated. Turning OFF the POWER ON/OFF switch does not affect the Console memory. All data is retained.

4.VOLUME/MINUTE RATE FAULT Depress until display shows SET LOW LIMIT 0. A low limit flow rate may now be entered. If the actual volume per minute falls below this limit, the Control Valve stops closing, an alarm sounds, and the display flashes LOW LIMIT . The low limit value should be determined with all booms ON. This value is automatically proportional to the percentage of booms that are ON. (i.e. If the entered low limit is 4 and half the total boom length is shut off, the Console automatically reduces the low limit to 2).

NOTE: Go to DATA MENU to silence alarm.

VOLUME/AREA RATE ALARM Console alarm sounds if the application rate is 30% or more away from the target application rate for more than 5 seconds.

NOTE: Go to DATA MENU to silence alarm.

LOW TANK FAULT This feature will sound the alarm when the volume in the tank drops below an entered value. The alarm will intermittently beep every 15 seconds and the display will flash LOW LEVEL. The alarm will stop when a value equal to or greater than the LOW TANK ALARM is entered into VOL/TANK or the booms are turned OFF. Entering "0" into LOW TANK ALARM disables it.

CONTROL VALVE DELAY Depress

until display shows CONTROL VALVE DELAY.

The first digit,

( X 0 0 0 ), is the Control Valve delay digit. This feature allows the user to set a delay between the time the booms are turned ON and when the Console begins to control the flow rate. A value of 1-9 means a delay of 1-9 seconds respectively.

A value of 0 means no delay. This delay is active if the time between turning OFF and turning ON the booms is less than 30 seconds.

ZERO SPEED SHUT-OFF This function will be active when C-FC (Fast Close Valve) or C-PC (PWM Close Valve) is selected. This function can not be disabled. When C-FC or C-PC has been selected, the valve will receive a decrease signal and run closed when the speed drops to .7 MPH or less. The only way the console can operate at .7 MPH or less is in the manual mode.

When a zero speed shut-off has occured, the MASTER switch must be turned OFF and then ON to restart the system. If a constant speed greater than .7 MPH is not attained within 10 seconds, the zero speed shut-off will be enacted again.

10. DATA MENU The following are brief descriptions of features available under the DATA MENU key.

Allows user to enter up to a four-digit number to represent a field. Field reference is included in field begin and field end pages and the data logger time/date string.

DATA LOG TRIGGER VALUE 0

Used in data logging mode. The trigger determines how often actual rate data string (See Appendix 10 for Data Communication String Formats) is sent to the serial port. The trigger may be either feet [meters] or seconds.

Upon each trigger, the Actual Rate string, Data Strings 1, 2, and 3, and the Time/ date string are sent, in that order. When a Console calibration value is changed, the Console will automatically send out the Cal 1, 2, and 3 strings. When a Console switch is changed, the Data 1, 2, 3, Time/Date, and Cal 1, 2, 3 strings will be sent by the Console. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE Preventive maintenance is most important to assure long life of the system. The following maintenance procedures should be followed on a regular basis: 1)

Flush entire system with water after use of suspension type chemicals. Failure to clean system can result in crystallization of chemicals which may plug the Flow Meter, lines, and/or tips.

Flush and drain sprayer before storing.

APPENDIX 1 WHEEL DRIVE SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION AND CALIBRATION PROCEDURE 1.

MOUNTING WHEEL DRIVE SPEED SENSOR The Wheel Drive Speed Sensor consists of four magnets, a switch assembly with cable, and mounting hardware.

Sequence of mounting Speed Sensor: l)

Select a non-driven wheel (left front tractor wheel or implement wheel).

2)

Check for predrilled holes in rim.

If not predrilled, see "RIM DRILLING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WHEEL DRIVE SPEED SENSOR".

3)

Mount the four magnets to the inside of rim and tighten (See Figures below).

Magnets must be mounted in alternating red-black order.

4)

Mount switch assembly to stationary column with the hardware provided (See below).

The switch assembly need not pivot with the wheel.

RIM DRILLING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WHEEL DRIVE SPEED SENSOR MAGNETS

On wheels which do not have pre-punched mounting holes, proceed as follows: RIMS WITH FOUR OR EIGHT HOLE STUD PATTERN: Choose stud holes that are opposite each other as shown below. Using the center of opposite holes, scribe two lines on the rim web to divide the circumference into four equal parts. Measure in one inch from the outer edge of the web on each of the lines drawn. Mark this point as the center. Drill four 1/2" holes for mounting the magnets.

NOTE: Distance (D) between each set of drilled holes must be equal within 1/8 [3 mm] to ensure accuracy of system.

RIMS WITH SIX HOLE STUD PATTERN: Locate the center of the holes to be drilled by using the rim webbing as a guide.

Obtain a small piece of wood and cut to fit exactly over the web as shown. Measure the length of the piece of wood and mark the center on one edge. Using the center mark on the piece of wood, mark each of the four webs. Measure in one inch from the outer edge of the web on each of the lines drawn. Mark this point as center and drill four 1/2" holes for mounting the magnets.

NOTE: Distance (D) between each set of drilled holes must be equal within 1/8" [3 mm] to ensure accuracy of system.

CALCULATING "SPEED CAL"

1)

Place a chalk mark or tape onto the vehicle tire that the Speed Sensor mounted to it as shown below.

2)

Mark the initial spot on the ground.

3)

Drive vehicle straight ahead counting 10 full revolutions of the wheel. The mark must stop at the same position it was in when the vehicle started.

4)

Measure the distance from the ground starting mark to stopping mark in inches [dm] (Round off fractions).

5)

Write down this distance as the SPEED CAL number; keep it for future reference when programming the Console.

NOTE: This measurement is critical to the performance of the Console. MEASURE CAREFULLY. Be sure tire is properly inflated before measuring. Measure tire in type of soil in which you will be spraying. Circumference of tire will vary when measured in soft soil versus hard packed soil. For best results, measure several times and average the results.

Large tires and very low speed applications may require additional magnets to insure accurate speed readings. Any even number of magnets may be used as long as they are of alternating color and equally spaced. After calculating "SPEED CAL", this number must be adjusted according to the number of magnets used.

APPENDIX 6 FLOW METER MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE 1)

Remove Flow Meter from sprayer and flush with clean water to remove any chemicals.

NH3 WARNING: Thoroughly bleed nurse tank hose and all other system lines prior to disassembling the Flow Meter, fittings, and hoses.

2)

Remove flange bolts or clamp from the Flow Meter.

3)

Remove the turbine hub and turbine from inside Flow Meter.

4)

Clean turbine and turbine hub of metal filings or any other foreign material, such as wettable powders. Confirm that the turbine blades are not worn. Hold turbine and turbine hub in your hand and spin turbine. The turbine should spin freely with very little drag inside the turbine hub.

5)

If transducer assembly is replaced or if turbine stud is adjusted or replaced, verify the turbine fit before reassembling. Hold turbine hub with turbine on transducer. Spin turbine by blowing on it. Tighten turbine stud until turbine stalls. Loosen turbine stud 1/3 turn. The turbine should spin freely.

6)

Re-assemble Flow Meter.

7)

Using a low pressure (5 psi) [34.5 kPa] jet of air, verify the turbine spins freely.

If there is drag, loosen hex stud on the bottom of turbine hub 1/16 turn until the turbine spins freely.

8)

If the turbine spins freely and cables have been checked per Appendix "PROCEDURE TO TEST FLOW CABLES", but Flow Meter still is not totalizing properly, replace Flow Meter transducer.

APPENDIX 7 PROCEDURE TO RE-CALIBRATE FLOW METER 1)
