MANIFOLD HEATERS, RELAY AND ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT - DIESEL
RELAY AND ELECTRICAl, CIRCUIT-DIESEL
Figure 34- Manilold Heaters {nstaned
Manifold heaters, Figure 34, are provided on diesel engines to assist in starting the engine in cold weather. The heaters have a heating element on the inner end to heat the air before it enters the combustion chamber.
The heaters are actuated by a switch relay and the necessary wiring as shown in Figure 35.
A. Manifold Heater Replacement
L To replace the manifold heaters, disconnect the wire at each heater.
2. Turn the heater counterclockwise out of the intake manifold.
3. To install the manifold heaters, place a new gasket on each heater base.
4. Thread the manifold heater into the intake manifold and tighten them.
B. Relay Replacement
1. To rep1ace the manifold heater relay, disconnect the battery ground cable from the right side of the tractor.
2. Open the hood and disconnect the four wires from the manifold heater relay, Figure 35. Figure 35-Manilold Heater Electrical Circuit
3. Remove the two bolts, nuts andlockwashers that attach the relay to the inner side of the left hood panel.
4. To instal! the relay, hold it in place on the inside of the left hood panel and install the two attaching bolts, nuts and iockwashers.
5, Connect the four wires to their respective terminals on the relay.
6. Connect the battery ground cable to the right side of the tractor.
C. Switch Replacement
1. To replace the manifold heater switch, open the hood top panel and disconnect the two wires from the switch terminals.
2. Working from the underside to the rear of the left hood side panel, remove the knurled nut that attaches the switch to the hood
3. Remove the switch through the top panel.
4. To install the switch, position it in the panel and secure in place with the knurled nut.
5. Connect the two wires to the switch terminal.
