Initial Software Instructions

IMPORTANT: Do Not Skip This Step. Before proceeding with the instructions in this manual, complete the initial task required for the software payload.

NOTE: Verify online that the instructions being used during this procedure are the most current version of the instructions.

Before starting the retrofit installation on the planter, place a DTAC case to request the correct software payload for the planter being retrofitted. The following information must be provided in addition to the field requirements of the DTAC case: Model:_____________ Number of Rows and Row Spacing:______________ 3-point Hitch:____________ NOTE: Reference DTAC solution 104712 for more information.

The software package takes a few days to be processed and sent out for updating the Planter Master Controller (PMC), Row Unit Controllers (RUC), and Electric Power Generation system (EPG).

After the planter has been upgraded, start the download of software payload from the John Deere™ Custom Performance site.

Make sure to download and install the software for all the controllers:

Once the files for the PMC-A, PMC-B, RUC, and EPG are available, prepare to install the software for all the controllers.

After all the software is available, connection to the planter at the rear diagnostic connector and programming of all the controllers is possible.

Once the programming is finished, do the following procedures and/or enter the information into the display:

• Height Sensor Calibration • Vacuum Sensor Calibration • Pneumatic Downforce to zero • Individual Row Hydraulic Downforce (IRHD) Air Purge • Individual Row Hydraulic Downforce (IRHD) Valve Flush • Individual Row Hydraulic Downforce (IRHD) Valve Test • Downforce Sensors to zero • Enter the number of fertilizer sensors

Install Retrofit Serial Number Decal

Locate the original serial number on the left-hand area (A) of the planter frame.

At the end of the retrofit process, install the new serial number decal (B) from the retrofit kit near the original serial number decal location.

Do not conceal or cover-up the original serial number decal when installing the new serial number decal. Record the new serial number in the spaces provided and give this page of information to the customer after the retrofit is finished.

Maintain in a separate, secure location an up-to-date inventory of all product and component serial numbers.

Regularly verify that the identification plates have not been removed. Report any evidence of tampering to law enforcement agencies and order duplicate plates.

Other steps you can take: 1. Mark your planter with your own numbering system.

2. Take color photographs from several angles of each planter.

The tractor power generation gear case is shipped empty.

Protect the sensor while positioning the gear case upright (as shown). Add Hy-Gard™ oil until level with the bottom of the fill hole (approximately 0.5 L [17 oz]). Verify that the

O-ring is on the alternator gear. Lubricate the alternator gear and the gear case cavity with molybdenum grease before assembly. (See the Tractor Power Generation section for more information.)

CAUTION: To avoid possible serious injury, disconnect the hydraulic and electrical connections between the tractor and the planter before starting this instruction.

5. If equipped with a ground-driven seed transmission, do the following:

NOTE: Do not use a hammer to drive out the drillshaft.

The end of the drillshaft can become mushroomed and not pass through the bearings or sprockets.

If the row unit drillshaft cannot be removed by sliding, use an appropriate method to cut the shaft into pieces that are removable or leave the drillshaft on the frame.

8. If the drillshafts are required after the retrofit to drive a fertilizer or chemical application:

Remove the drive chains (A) for the row unit drillshafts.

6. If the drillshafts are not needed after the retrofit for a fertilizer or chemical application: Remove all hardware attaching the bearings (B), clamps (C), drive sprockets (D), gear cases (E), drive couplers (F), shaft couplers (G), and flex couplers (H) along the row unit drillshafts.

7. Remove drillshafts through the gap in the parallel arms of the row units, along with all the attached components still holding onto the drillshafts.

NOTE: To assist in removal, use a spray lubrication on the ends of each drillshaft and on areas the shaft slides through (bearings, sprockets, and so forth).

Loosen the bearings (B), clamps (C), drive sprockets (D), gear cases (E), drive couplers (F), shaft couplers (G), and flex couplers (H) along the row unit drillshafts.

9. Slide the row unit drillshafts out of the frame.

10. Remove the cap screws, nuts, and components mentioned previously that are used with the row unit drillshaft.

11. If not equipped with liquid fertilizer, proceed to Remove Entire MaxEmerge™ XP Row Unit or Remove MaxEmerge™ 5 Meter Components from Row Units in this section.

12. If equipped with liquid fertilizer, proceed to Ground Drive Liquid Fertilizer (If Equipped) in this section.

2. Lower the planter until the row units are almost in planting position and rest on parking stands.

3. Shut off the engine, set the park brake, and remove the key.

21. Attach a proper lifting device to the row unit shank.

22. To relieve the weight off the parallel arms, lift slightly on the row unit shank.

NOTE: Place distinguishing marks on or separate the cap screws, nuts, and spacers for each set of parallel arms. The cap screws, nuts, and spacers must go back into the same positions from where they were removed from.

23. Remove the cap screws, nuts, and spacers (A) from the parallel arms.

24. Using a proper lifting device (B), remove the shank assembly (C) from the parallel arms.

25. Repeat steps on all row units for the planter.

26. Proceed to Remove Backbone Harnessing and Control Units in this section.

1. Unfold the planter on a level surface.

Software Installation Software Installation After the planter has been upgraded, start the download of software payload from John Deere™ Custom Performance site.

Make sure to download and install software for all controllers: Once files for PMC-A, PMC-B, RUC, and EPG are available, prepare to install software for all controllers.

Once the programming is finished, do the following procedures and/or enter the information into the display: Height Sensor Calibration Vacuum Sensor Calibration Pneumatic Down Force to zero Down Force Sensors to zero Enter the number of fertilizer sensors
