About these manual This Chapter provides you with important information which will make working with this manual easier. In addition, you are given information on the structure of this manual and the symbols and characters used.

You endanger yourself, others and equipment if you do not use an operating manual which matches the aforementioned application.

Ensure that the data on the housings for the system components verify that they belong to the MCU System.

Ask for the appropriate operating manuals immediately should the available ones no longer be complete or have become illegible.

Who is this operating manual intended for?

This operating manual is intended for all persons who set up the MCU system, those who work with it, do the settings and perform troubleshooting.

All persons working on the face, in the intersection between face and entry, or in the entry must read this operating manual.

State-of-the-art technology

The MCU system components are manufactured in accordance with state of the art technology and generally recognised safety standards and regulations.

You and others can nevertheless be exposed to dangerous situations e.g. as a result of environmental influences, machine damage or operator errors.

Do not make any alterations or modifications on the system components for the MCU system. The devices may only be opened and worked on by the manufacturer.

The European directives and standards stipulated in this operating manual must be applied when using the gearbox in member states of the European Union (EU). When using the device outside the EU, the directives and standards valid in those respective countries must be observed.

In addition to this operating manual, be sure also to observe the respective legal provisions and regulations for accident prevention in your country.

Please read also the operating manuals for the components required for operation of the longwall, e.g. for electric motors, couplings, engine frames, chain tensioner devices, conveyors, devices at the rear of drives and block anchorages, as well as other nearby machines that can be affected by the control unit. Clarify any questions before starting work.

Personnel Installation and repair As a general rule, installation work may only be carried out by personnel who have been adequately trained for these particular requirements. Repair work on the PMC® system components may only be carried out by service engineers from the manufacturer.

Operating conditions Operating conditions Intended use The MCU System was developed and produced for the control systems of shield support cages. Utilisation of the MCU System components in other control system tasks may not be carried out except in consultation with the Manufacturer.

Only deploy the PMC® system components for their intended use!

Unauthorized use Applications not expressly listed as intended uses, and/or have not been made in agreement with the manufacturer, are unauthorised uses and are not allowed to be performed with the MCU system.

DBT/DBT Automation accepts no liability for any damage resulting from any suchunauthorized use.

Ambient conditions Suitable measures must be taken by the operator to combat explosion hazards arising due to firedamp or ignition of dust which might occur in a mine.

J Adequate and consistent ventilation J Plow spray system/water spray system J Etc.

If the mine gas concentration in the free cross section of the consistently ventilated areas of the face exceeds a certain percentage of the lower explosion limit (LEL) as defined in the respective national laws, the M2 equipment has to be de-energized.

It may only be restarted by an authorized person.

The atmosphere in the mine has to be monitored at the hazardous locations to permit the disconnection of the power supply for all pieces of equipment except for those that are relevant for the safety and suitable for use in explosive atmospheres.

The M2 equipment must be stopped at once and secured against restart if firedamp protection facilities are found to be damaged.

The deployment of MCU components does not affect the safety regulations and flame protection devices relating to mine operations.

The controlling and periphery devices for the MCU system are intrinsically safe and are made in accordance with the recognised regulations of this technology.

Prerequisites for operation Commissioning of the MCU System is forbidden until it has been established that the machine that is controlled by the system is in compliance with European Directive 94/9/EC and the standard DIN EN1710.

Safety instructions As the equipment supplied is only part of an overall system, the operator is responsible for meeting the necessary safety requirements or installing the required safety systems for the devices/components not included in the scope of supply of this equipment and/or other devices/components required for operation. These shall be marked according to the legal provisions applicable at the time they are placed on the market (C€ - marking) Operation of the M2 equipment is only permitted if the safety requirements of DIN EN 1552 are met. All electrical equipment required to operate the face shall be marked according to the legal provisions applicable at the time when it is placed on the market.

Safety instructions General information General

Always work with full concentration.

Familiarize yourself with your working environment.

Protective equipment

Always wear your personal protective gear. This also means that you should wear ear protectors as the noise emissions coming from the conveyor is higher than 85 dB(A).

Keep the signaling and lighting systems in proper working order.

Observe the acoustic and optical starting alarms.

EMERGENCY STOP

Press the EMERGENCY STOP switch immediately in the event of faults or irregularities in operation. Report any peculiarities to your superior so that necessary measures can be taken immediately.

Press the EMERGENCY STOP SWITCH also when safety equipment such as firedamp protection facilities breaks down.

Safety instructions Storage and transport The control units of the MCU System be stored for a maximum of 7 years without being connected to an electrical power supply. The installed buffer battery is empty after this period of time. The battery must then be replaced.

Maintain the prescribed storage periods and observe the instructions for storage.

Do not store materials or parts in the travel path or in your working area.

Inform the persons involved about the intended transport route and the anticipated duration of the transport.

Transport safety devices

System holders are to be used.

Ensure that the transport safety devices/packaging are correctly fitted. Never stand under unsecured components or suspended loads.

Only use holding strips from the MCU system as brackets. Do not damage any connector inserts or other fitting surfaces.

Installation and start-up

When working with oils, greases and other chemical substances, observe the safety regulations applicable to the product.

Environmental protection

Dispose of auxiliary materials which have been soiled with oil, grease or other chemical substances in an environmentally safe manner.

Maintenance and repair Do not undertake to perform repair work or modifications on the MCU components.

Inform the supervisory personnel and the face crew of any maintenance and repair operations required. Give them information on the intended operations and the expected duration.

Securing

Secure your working area with a wide radius to prevent danger to other persons.

Secure the conveyor against unauthorized and unintentional restarting before all operations.

Replacing components

Stop and lock-out the conveyor and the mining machine and preventfrom restarting before replacing any defective components.

Immediately remove any defective components from the face in order not to hinder the face crew and to prevent these parts being reinstalled elsewhere.

Send them out for servicing without delay.

In faces with inclines, secure spare parts e.g. with chains or hoists.

Safety instructions Use only spare parts that comply with the specified technical requirements. This is only ensured with original DBT/DBT Automation spare parts. Please refer to the spare parts lists for the order numbers.

Storage and transport

Storage

Storage and transport This chapter includes important information on the correct storage procedures and on the safe transport of MCU components. By observing the notes and instructions, the service life and reliability of the system components is increased. If you read this chapter thoroughly, it will help to make your normal working day easier.

Storage Storage of the equipment Components coated with corrosion inhibitors are protected for around six months.

No direct exposureto sunlight

Protect the equipment against direct exposure to sunlight. Store the electrical equipment, electronic components, spare parts made of rubber or plastic - such as seals, cables and hoses - only in closed rooms at temperatures of 15°C to 25°C.

Moisture and dirt

Protect all parts of the equipment against dirt and moisture. Take particular care not to remove blind plugs or blind plates. Avoid damage to the plug connectors. Use the blind plugs and caps if you wish to store the devices again after use.

Short-term storage

Do not store electronic equipment outside!

Long-term storage

After a storage period of 7 years, the computers should be inspected, since the installed battery is dead after this period of time.

This battery must then be replaced. The inspection and the battery change should be carried out by DBT Automation service engineers.

Anticorrosion protection

After a storage period of approx. two years, an inspection of the system components must be carried out before use. This is to determine whether the measures taken and the method of storage have prevented damage.

Even with proper storage, seals, hoses and cables are subject to natural ageing. Do not use these components as malfunctions or ghost functions are possible.

Important!

Ensure that when storing any new supplies that they are stored separately from existing stocks, and in such a way that computer components of similar age are stored together, so that version conflicts from different programming operations are avoided.

Make sure that when storing, the display foil, keyboard membrane and plug connectors are not damaged.

Transport Important!

Load and transport the components carefully and with full concentration. Protect yourself against injuries caused by falling parts by wearing safety gloves and safety footwear.

The computers and interfaces, that belong to the same operating point, and are included in the MCU system, can be transported together in one transport container. You must, however, make certain that they are not packed together with heavy or sharp-edged materials, so that any damage to displays, keyboards, cables and plug connectors can be avoided.

The accompanying lines and hose cables must also be carefully packed and transported so that damage to plug and screw connections can be avoided.

Measures must be taken to avoid sudden impact loads during transport at low temperatures.

Line and cable connections have to be carefully protected when transporting abroad. The MCU devices must be packed carefully and secured for journeys overseas.

The transport of electronic equipment at low temperatures (under -10°C) should be carried out very carefully as all materials become brittle and fragile at low temperatures. This is why cables with a temperature of under +4°C are not permitted to be laid. If cables and lines at such low temperatures are transported underground, they should be left to adjust to the warmth of the ambient temperatures before they are installed on site.

Incorrect installation can cause considerable damage to control devices, periphery devices, and the machines to be controlled. When installing the PMC®-R System for the first time, do so only under the supervision of specialist personnel from DBT Automation The PMC®-R system is shown in the following drawings for installation.

The original drawings, together with parts lists and part numbers, are to be used to ensure proper allocation of parts for correct set-up in accordance with the intended structural design. These operating instructions in Chapter 6, in which the main system parts are shown with drawings and/or illustrations, offer aid for locating the individual system parts. General

Operation General The applications program contained in the central control unit, with the Windows XP operating system, can operate such common and widely-used Windows 2000 applications as MS WinWord and Excel easily with the mouse.

In order to ensure safe functioning, only original DBA parts or parts authorized by DBA are permitted to be connected and operated at the underground central control; only original spare parts are authorized for use with repairs.

Fig. 5 shows the monitor screen graphics that are displayed without the opening of additional menus or windows. An extremely wide variety of displays and input fields can now be superimposed on this graphics monitor screen, entirely in accordance with user preferences.

The monitor screen set-up The monitor screen set-up shall now be explained in the following through the use of image details for the purpose of improving overall comprehensibility. The so-called menu line is located on the top edge of the monitor screen: Fig. 2:

General The menus and the submenus associated with them can be opened with the mouse. The toolbar is located directly beneath the menu line.

The toolbar makes possible direct control and/or execution of commands with the mouse without having to open additional menus.

Presentation of the toolbar on the monitor screen is optional, i.e. one can switch it on or off.

The pressure of the shield support props is displayed graphically beneath the toolbar.

In accordance with the graphics settings (number of shields can be modified), the pressures of the individual props are shown in color in this area of the monitor screen. The pressures of the individual shield props can be displayed either next to one another or in superimposed fashion.

Fig. 4 displays the monitor screen section showing the conveyor, shield and plow positions. The next sector of the monitor screen offers the option of showing the stroke of the shifting units separately.

A caption is displayed at the lower left-hand edge of the image; the color-coded bars of which are assigned accordingly to individual functions and are displayed in the status bars at the lower edge of the monitor screen.

The various status messages, error messages and shield conditions are displayed in this bar by means of colour changes, e.g. which function one or more PM4’s are currently carrying out or which status they have.

Operation with the mouse Operation with the mouse Menu selection To open a menu with the mouse, guide the mouse arrow on the monitor screen to the position of the corresponding menu line. If the mouse arrow is standing on the name of the menu, then a single click of the left-hand mouse button will open the menu together with the corresponding submenus. Example using the “Control” menu item: The submenu will be opened by clicking with the left-hand mouse button.

The gray cursor can now be moved with the mouse to the desired submenu. The submenu will now be opened by clicking once with the left-hand mouse button.

Only those menu items can be reached whose lettering is shown against a dark background.

Opening and closing windows The following statements apply as fundamental rules for all windows in which the following characters - also referred to as buttons - are to be found in the upper right-hand corner: All windows offer a selection of these control buttons, at a minimum one for closing the window.

Modifying windows If additional information windows are called up on the monitor screen, then these can be either zoomed in or zoomed out. It is also possible to move the windows around on the monitor screen.

When the cursor is anchored at the edge of the window, one can grab the edge of the window with the left-hand mouse button and zoom the window in or out.

Menu prompts without mouse linkage If no mouse is present, then all operations of the central control can also be actuated using the keyboard.

The respective menu is opened by using the key combination Alt plus the letter of the alphabet underlined in the name of the menu, e.g.: The “Control” menu is opened with the key combination Alt+t.

The “Datalogger” menu is opened with the key combination Alt+z.

The blue cursor can be moved upwards or downwards with the arrow keys.

One can switch between the main menus by using the left or right arrow keys.

If a menu item is selected with the mouse or the arrow keys, then it can be opened with the Enter key.

Commands can also be carried out directly through the use of key combinations. For example, one proceeds directly in the “Set lines” menu with the key combination CTRL+L. The key combinations are to be found after the respective submenu headings.

The “New Sys Para” parameters can be selected and modified here. (For the meanings of the parameters, see the Description of PMC®-R) The parameter block is sent to the server PMC®-R and thus to the longwall by actuating the Send global key.

In addition, the minimum and maximum plow positions are specified here, meaning the first or last shield that the plow can reach.

Clicking with the left-hand mouse button on the downwards arrow (see Fig. 19) will cause a menu window open up in which one can click on the respective automatic sequences to switch them on off (see Fig. 20).

The setting is sent to the longwall with the “Send global” key. One can actuate the “Fetch global” key in order to check whether the settings have arrived and been accepted. The current settings are then displayed in the individual settings windows shown in Fig. 19.

The “Cancel” key is used to render invalid any settings changes that have not yet been sent to the longwall. Actuating it causes the “Global parameter” window to close without sending the settings that were made.

The other keys in the window are marked as being invalid by being suppressed.

The parameters are arranged in 3 double columns. The descriptions of the parameters can be found in the Operating Manual for the PMC®-R. The program for the PMC®-R contains useful parameter values which have been entered by the programmer and which can be adjusted for special situations.

Parameter values can be selected by clicking on them with the mouse and then modified using the keyboard.

The function of the keys “Send global”, “Fetch global” and “Cancel” is the same as was described at the beginning. The “Fetch local” key is provided for selecting local parameters (see Fig. 22).

The “Local” tab is then displayed, in which the parameters for local ranges can be separately adjusted. The settings for the entire longwall will not be modified when this is done, if the altered parameter is sent locally (“Send local” key).

If the “No plowing” mode is selected and sent to the longwall, then this will be specified to the PMC®-R by the NOM display.

The conveyor is displayed in grey colour.

With conventional plowing, the shifting units are kept under constant pressure, so that they push the conveyor whenever resistance slackens. This does not however mean that any defined cut depthsare generated. The conveyor is displayed in light blue colour.

With Incremental Plowing, the conveyor is defined behind the plow, pushed forward by the cut depth that has been set, so that the plow is always operated with a defined cut depth. In addition, special cut depths can be set at the end of the longwall, so that the plow needs travel only in long runs. In doing so, it is at the end of the longwall that the total number of cut depths in forward and reverse travel is adjusted. The conveyor is displayed in dark blue colour.

Incremental plowing with autosequence is an expanded plowing mode, namely travel in the incremental plowing mode with additional automatic autosequence. This means that the shields whose shifting units are extended beyond a certain value automatically proceed through an autosequence (steal props, shift, position). The conveyoris shown in violet colour.

The Optionscan be selected or deselected by clicking on the check box in front of them (empty box).

The plowing modes can also be “mixed”. This is done by entering the plowing ranges in the “Plowsection” field.

Parameters are sent to thelongwall with the “OK IncPlow” button.

The “IncPlow. Stop” commandends the incremental plowing.

The “S.Tooth new Init” key is required for sending the settings for the sawtooth to the longwall when this option is selected. The sawtooth is a special alignment of the shields to the conveyor, one which from above resembles the teeth of a saw. If this key is actuated, then the confirmation inquiry shown in Fig. 33 appears; answering with “Ja” [Yes] sends the parameters to the longwall, answering with “nein” [no] cancels the entry.

A similar confirmation inquiry also ensues when the attempt is made to send incremental plowing to the longwall.

Cutting depths A new dialogue window is opened in which the cut depths can be defined when the “Cut depths...” key is opened in Fig. 32 (page 5.20). (See Fig. 34) Fig. 34: Cutting depths

Up to ten ranges can be generated in the “Special Cut Depths” window section in which cut depths deviating from the default value can be travelled. The entering of the ranges takes place with the shield numbers from “No.” up to “No.”, the cut depths as strokes in the direction of travel, left or right in millimetres. These special cut depths are travelled to the drive ranges if one can dispense with making entry cuts. Then the total number of the cut depths in the direction of travel to the right and left are added in these ranges.

The auxiliary strokes are required in order to make up for any possible reverse travel on the parts of the shields. This function can only function if the cut line is only one cut depth in front of the conveyor line and if the conveyor line corresponds to the actual current situation.

respectively: – curves or – straight connection In the “New Point” subsection, the line position can be selected in centimetre increments by means of the cross-shaped keypad with keys marked with a simple vertical arrow. The keys marked with a vertical double arrow permit 10-centimeter increments. The upper group shifts the line forward, the lower one shifts the line back.

The shield number is selected with the keys that are aligned horizontally. The keys with a simple arrow count the shields individually, those with a double arrow count them in groups of tens.

Set lines It is also possible to enter the shield number directly in the field “Shield #:” (select and enter with the keyboard).

In order to select the chosen line point, it must be entered in the white field under “Points”. This is accomplished with the “Apply” key. When the “Apply” key is actuated, the still-incomplete entry will be displayed with a colour change in the shield range of the main monitor screen.

Entering one point and sending the parameters to the longwall is sufficient for a straight line shape. The “OK + Send” key also sends the parameters to the longwall, but then also closes the input window once the sending is completed.

At least three positions must be specified for curved lines, which are then linked with a curved lined by the program.

The conveyor line is the front edge of the conveyor along which the plow travels.

The cut line is line up to which the plow is to cut. This line can be put forward automatically in the program to the adjusted cut depth and should not be effective for more than this single cut depth when used in Automatic mode.

The target line has in principle the same function as the cut line, but can also be used for pushing the conveyor forward to a particular position. This can be used for a swivel operation, for example.

Move lines The “Move lines” command opens a window with which the target line and the cut line can be shifted. The target line is pushed forward or pulled back by the preset cut depth by using the keys marked with yellow. If the cut from the head-end drive to the tail-end drive and the cut from the tail-end drive to the head-end drive have different cut depths, then these depths can be pushed forward or pulled back using the respective keys that are marked with the correct direction of travel.

After clicking on the “Global ON” key, the window shown in Fig. 42 appears, which can now be confirmed with OK or exited with “Cancel” without having any influence on the automatic sequence settings.

If the point “Select range” has been clicked on, then the two fields under the designation “Range” (blue lettering) will be activated, and one can enter the range of the shields here in which the selected automatic sequence is to be switched on or switched off.

The Graphics options Graphics options contains three tabs, “Face View”, “Views” and “Select Modules”. Using the “Face View” tab, one can zoom in on the installation with the “left area” and “right area” keys, both with reference to all face shields and with reference to the complete network of the left-hand area or the right-hand area of the installation. The switches “all face shields” and “configured network area” show the entire respective area. One can switch over to the corresponding view by clicking and confirming with the “Apply” key. Similarly, one can switch over with a double click on the respective key.

Activation of the selection box “Roaming partial area” [Teilbereich mitlaufend] causes a zoom area to be set up around the plow position that moves with the plow position.

The switches “Sections Settings” and “All Datasets” are shown in the line beneath. The “Sections Settings” key activates or deactivates the “Sections Settings” field (blue lettering). The number of shields displayed can be adjusted here. The first shield is entered in the “Start” field.

The “View” menu If the “All Datasets” key is actuated, then the “Sections Settings” field will be deactivated. The entering of values is now in reference to all of the PMC®-Rs in the network.

The mining progress [Abbaufortschritt] field contains a factor with which once can adjust the display size of the conveyor with reference to the progress of the mining. The smaller this value is, the larger the conveyor will be displayed. (Minimum value: 1, Maximum value: 1000) In the Scale field, one can choose between either a listing in metres of the facewall length or a specification of the number of shields.

The “Show separate plow line” line provides an additional line for displaying the plow and/or the roller.

“Highlight plow position in graphic” generates a roaming thread with a light-coloured surrounding field to make it possible to identify the plow more quickly (important with very long facewalls).

The “View” menu “Show counter of received data sets for PMC®-R status” generates a line in which the correctly received data telegrams are displayed in percentage values when one positions the mouse pointer on a particular shield in this line.

“Show PMC(®-R) error messages” makes available a similar line for the error messages.

“Show PMC(®-R) status messages” makes available a similar line for the status messages.

“Show virtual/real PMC(®-R)s” makes available a similar line in which the virtual and real PMC(®-R)s can be distinguished from one another by their colouring. Placement of the mouse pointer on one of the colour areas causes the respective status to be displayed.

(Applies only for longwalls in which one PMC(®-R) controls more than one shield.)

“Show debug values” generates a line in which error numbers are displayed which offer the programmer indications of possible malfunctions in the program.
