Function

Description

Cutting crops.

The rapeseed separating knife* (1) cuts standing crops cross-wise, ensuring a clean cutting edge and minimising losses. The finger bar (2) cuts the crops. With the FLEX* variant, the finger bar (2) aligns itself with the contour of the ground in order to achieve a deep cut.

Picking up crops.

The crop lifters* set crops upright if they are lying flat. The sensing bands (3), the finger bar (2) (for FLEX variants only) and the AUTO CONTOUR* system of the combine harvester control the ground guidance of the front attachment. The stabilisation wheels* (4) support the AUTO CONTOUR* system and relieve the load on the machine's feed rake conveyor. The reel (5) transports the cut crops using the reel tines (6) on the conveyor belts (7) and (8).

The side conveyor belts (7) and the upper feed augers* (10) transport the cut crops to the middle of the front attachment. The centre conveyor belt (8) transports the cut crops to the intake auger (9).

Setting the automatic park position

Description:

Operating steps:

The front attachment must be brought into the park position for transport. When automatically setting the park position, the following actions are carried out:

Switch off the front attachment If the travel speed is < 2 km/h, press and hold the <Cutting height control> (1) button.

If the travel speed is ≥ 2 km/h, briefly press the <Cutting height control> (1) button.

Description:

After switching off the front attachment, the current front attachment working position is saved. When automatically setting the last working position, the following actions are carried out:

Description:

CONVIO cutterbars are equipped with the familiar long double fingers (1) as standard. An HSG (high speed grain) cutting system (2) can also be ordered as an option. This is designed for high harvesting speeds. A different set of double fingers (2) is installed when using this system.

CONVIO cutterbars are equipped with crop lifters (3) as standard. These can now be replaced without tools.

For this cutting system, shorter double fingers (1) than those used for a rigid cutterbar are installed, enabling cutting to be carried out at a lower level. The knife is held in place by knife clips (2). These knife clips (2) are adjusted by means of shims (3) (see the Operator's Manual).

In the SG3 cutting system, double fingers are installed from the top (4) and the bottom (5). The knife is guided between these double fingers. The upper finger (4) is adjusted by shims (6) (see the Operator's Manual).

The transition is equipped with a flat insert plate (1) as standard for CONVIO and CONVIO FLEX. This ensures a good crop flow, even at low crop heights.

A stone deflector (2) can be fitted as an option. This is situated directly behind the finger bar and ensures that stones cannot reach the conveyor belt.

Description: Plastic skids (2) are fitted below the finger bar (1) as standard for the CONVIO FLEX and as an option for the CONVIO cutterbar. The skids (2) prevent material/soil accumulating underneath and in front of the finger bar. They also minimise wear on the finger bar at high harvesting speeds in combination with low cutting heights.

When the master switch is set to "OFF" (2), the belt speed is manually set via the CEBIS separately for the side belts in the CEBIS menu (3) and for the centre belt in the CEBIS menu (4). When the cutterbar is switched on, the system applies the set speeds.

Alternatively, the manual belt speeds can also be adjusted using the adjustment hotkey.

Automatic belt speed "ON" (1): 4

When the master switch is set to "ON" (2), the belt speed is automatically controlled based on the travel speed. A speed offset applied to the travel speed can be set for the side belts in the CEBIS menu (3), and a speed offset applied to the side belt speed can be set for the centre belt in the CEBIS menu (4). This automatic function is active when in the working position and regulates the belt speeds at travel speeds of 4.5 km/h and above.

Tips for the belt speed

Setting recommendation: ► If the stalks are not being transported parallel to the direction of travel, reduce the speed of the conveyor belts.

► If material is building up on the finger bar, increase the speed of the conveyor belts. ► Set the speed of the conveyor belts to be as slow as possible, but as fast as necessary.

Calibrating speeds in the CEBIS 1

Description: In the "Calibrate belt speed" CEBIS menu (1), the belt speed must be calibrated while the cutterbar is running and the diesel engine is operating at the rated speed. During the calibration process, the belts are stopped and then accelerated to maximum speed.

Operating the CONVIO speed monitoring

Description: When the speed monitoring master switch (1) is switched on, a CEBIS message is displayed to the driver when a belt exceeds the slip limit defined by the driver. The two side belts and the centre belt are monitored. For each belt, there are two speed sensors fitted, which are compared to one another to enable the slip to be calculated.

The slip limits can be set in the "Slip limits" menu (2). These limits can be set separately for the side belts (3) and the centre belt (4).

Description: When the standstill monitoring (1) is switched on, the speed of the belts is monitored. If the system detects that the side belts or the centre belt have come to a standstill, a fault message (DTC) is displayed to the driver.

Description: The "Feed auger" menu item (1) enables the upper conveyor auger (2) in the cutterbar to be switched on and off. When switched on, the feed augers move at the same speed as the side belts. When the right-hand rape cutter is fitted, the upper conveyor augers (2) are always automatically switched on. This ensures a better crop flow when used with rapeseed.

Info: The conveyor augers are available as an option.

The position of the feed augers can be adjusted on the supporting arms (1).

Tip: Set the auger as close as possible to the rear panel.

The intake auger (1) is driven from the left-hand side by a universal drive shaft (2). The auger fingers (3) can be replaced in the usual way, and the grip (4) for the auger fingers can be set from the rear right. The far end of the auger flights (5) can likewise be removed.

Description: The new reel (1) from CLAAS has a larger diameter and can pick up the crops in front of the finger bar. The reel tines (2) are controlled via a cam track that can be manually adjusted.

The reel tines (2) are composed of plastic, which, in combination with the cam track control, prevents wrapping.

Reel traction control function Description:

The reel traction control monitors the pressure at the reel drive pressure sensor (B443) upstream of the reel drive motor (2012). If the reel dips into the soil, for example, the pressure rises above the set CEBIS value. The reel is automatically raised, enabling it to rotate freely again and causing the pressure at the reel drive pressure sensor (B443) to fall.

The lifting height of the reel can also be set in the CEBIS. The function is controlled by the front attachment module (A130) and is fitted as standard in the cutterbars.

Loosen the three bolts (1) Insert the mandrel into the opening (3) Pull the lever (2) out of the drilled hole Adjust the reel tines as desired. If necessary, unscrew the upper bolt (1) and screw it back into the other drilled hole Insert the lever (2) until it engages Tighten the three bolts (1) If the reel has two parts, repeat this process in the middle of the front attachment

For normal harvesting conditions, position the reel tines vertically or slightly forwards

For heavy down crops or short crops, position the reel tines at an aggressive pitch.

If the reel tine pitch is too aggressive, this can result in wrapping on the reel.

Description: The reel tines are controlled via the cam track. The cam track is located on the right-hand side of the machine, and is also located at the centre for two-part reels.

Basic setting for the reel

Description: The reel tines (1) must not come into contact with the knives (2) during fieldwork.

The distance (X) between the reel tines (1) and the tip of the knife section (2) must be at least 30 mm across the entire width of the front attachment.

The exact basic setting can be found in the Operator's Manual for the front attachment.

Every supporting arm (1) of the cutterbar table is mounted on the crossbar pipe (2) with a rotating connection (3). In addition, the finger bar is itself flexible, enabling the cutterbar to adapt to the contour of the ground. Each supporting arm (1) is supported by a hydraulic cylinder (4), which are all hydraulically connected. The hydraulic pressure set in the accumulators (5) can be used to set the cutterbar table to a fixed upwards position or to a flexible position.

Three sensors (6) for the middle area and for each outer area via a linkage (7) continuously detect the highest positioned supporting arm (1).

The "CONVIO pressure" CEBIS menu item (1) can be used to manually adjust the finger bar load relief. To do this, the pressure in the load relief cylinders (2) is changed. The following applies here: 5

CEBIS finger bar strategies Description of the "CONVIO operating mode" (1): 1 2 4 3 5

Grain (2): The finger bar is always set to rigid (balancing pressure (B595) = 160 bar) > Suitable for harvesting upright grain.

Down grain (3): The finger bar is set to rigid but is set to flexible and close to the ground under certain circumstances > Suitable for down grain or stubble height of any depth.

FLEX (4): The finger bar is flexible; the balancing pressure set in the CEBIS is applied.

Description: The "CONVIO operating mode" CEBIS menu (1) can be used to adjust various finger bar settings. The appropriate mode depending on the crop type and harvesting conditions can be selected here. The set mode is active when the automatic front attachment height function is switched on.

AUTO FLEX (5): The finger bar is set to flexible and in the cutting height control target value range of 50–100%, the target and actual value for the cutterbar height is automatically set as low as possible. > Suitable for harvesting crop types that grow at low heights such as soya.

Press and hold the front attachment reverse switch (S057) to reverse.

Function preselection switch (S293) set to table adjustment position Press and hold the switch (1a) upwards/forwards to reverse.

The reel, intake auger and centre belt are reversed.

The centre belt and side belts are reversed while the front attachment drive is running.

Press and hold the switch (1b) downwards/backwards, to cause the conveyor belts to rotate forwards at 25% of the current target speed.

Stabilisation wheels

Description:

Adjusting the stabilisation wheels:

Stabilisation wheels (1) fitted to the rear of the cutterbar can be ordered as an option for CONVIO and CONVIO FLEX. These can support the AUTO CONTOUR function when in use. The position of the stabilisation wheel (1) can be adjusted depending on the cutting height.

Raise the cutterbar so that cylinder (3) is fully extended. Fill the system via the filling connection (4) and vent the system via the connection (5) until there is no air left in the system.

Fill the system to a pressure of 20±2 bar.

An exact description can be found in the Operator's Manual.
