FOREWORD This manual will help the "Qualified Operator" become familiar with the motorized hand truck ( "walkie" type lift truck), its major components, its operating controls, its special features and the func­ tion(s) of each.

Clark motorized hand trucks are designed and built to take hard work ...not abuse. They are built to be dependable, but - as with any other truck - they are only as good as the man at the controls and the men responsible for maintaining them.

This publication is not a training manual but rather, a guide to help the "Qualified Operator" to safe and efficient operation of the Clark "walkie" type Iift truck.

Illustrations in th is manual guide the operator thru correct procedures for checking, starting, operating, stopping and parking a "walkie" type lift truck.

Operator training manuals are available thru your Clark Dealer.

6. The wearing of safety glasses and safety shoes is recommended when operating a "walkie" type truck.

Dress suitably and avoid wea r i n g loose fitting clothing.

7. Before operating any "wa Ik i e" type truck check steering, horn, brake application, for­ war d-reverse switch, lift -lower c ont r o ls and valve control levers for proper operation.

Report any faulty or er­ ratic performance im­ mediately.

8. Look al I around truck before moving it in any direction.

Once certain that your desired path of travel is u n o b s tructed, remem­ ber to start and stop slowly and smoothly.

Safety 9. Operate truck only in designated truck routes a n d k e ep o p e r a t ing aisles clear.

10. Always be alert for p e d e s t ria ns, other trucks or obstructions in your path of travel.

One-way aisles are rec­ ommended, if this is not practical in your opera­ tion, heed highway reg­ u lations and keep to right of aisle centerline.

11. When operating a "walkie" type truck in r e v e r s e remember to sound horn at all cor­ ners, exits, entrances and when approaching pedestrians.

14. Be careful of drive end swing when turning w h i I e o p e r a t ing the truck in reverse.

Assure ample distance to stop smoothly and safely should the need arise.

Carelessness may resu It in damage to material or equipment in your oper­ ating area and/or to the drive end of your truck

15. Use caution when making right or left turn i n t o aisle. Remember that trail wheels do not follow the turn path of the drive wheel. They tend to "cut" the cor­ ner.

16. Be extremely cau­ tious when operating a "wa I k i e" type truck near the edge of a load­ ing dock or ramp.

Safety 17. Never use your truck to push or tow an­ other. Never allow your truck to be pushed or towed by another.

Should a truck become d i s ab l e d and require m o v ing n o t i f y the p r o p e r authority im­ mediately.

18. Be aware of the po­ sition of your fork tips at all times when truck is in motion in reverse.

Be alert to avoid strik­ ing anything with the fork tips.

19. Make certain that vehicle being entered has b e e n a dequately blocked to prevent ac­ e i d en t a I r o 11. 8 ridge plates must have ade­ quate strength, width, g u a rd rails each side (minimum 3" high rec­ o m m e n d ed) a n d be properly secured.

20. Trucks of this type are designed to be con­ t ro I led by a walking o p e r ator only. Never ride a truck of this type o r i n d u l g e in other horseplay while oper­ ating these trucks.

22. Know the rated capacity of your truck and its attachment ( if any) and never exceed it.

Study your truck data capacity plate and learn the facts stamped in areas 1 through 8.

23. Thoroughly inspect load to be moved for ove rload and/or poor balance. If the stability of the load is question­ able . .. Don't Move I t.

24. Unstable loads are a hazard to you and to your fellow workers. Al­ ways make sure that your load is well stack­ ed a n d e v enly posi­ tioned a c r o s s both forks.

Never attempt to I ift a load with only one fork.
