FOREWORD This manual will help the "Qualified Operator" become familiar with the battery powered Rider type lift truck, its major components, its operating con­ trols, special features and the function(s) of each.

This publication is not a training manual but rather, a guide to help the "Qualified Operator" to safe and efficient operation of the Rider type, battery powered, Clark Lift Truck.

Operator training manuals are available thru your Clark Dealer.

Clark lift trucks are built to take hard work not abuse. They are built to be dependable, but - as with any other truck - they are only as good as the man behind the wheel and the men responsible for main­ taining them.

Illustrations in this manual guide the operator through correct procedures of checking, starting, operating, stopping and parking the lift truck.

Safety 1. Only physically qual­ ified and thoroughly p e r s o nnel tr a i n e d should be authorized to operate the Clarklift Electric EC 90, 100 or 120 model machines.

2. Prominently placed on every Clark truck is a list of basic rules for op­ eration. These ruies are for the protection of you and others in your operating area. Be famil­ iar with them. Also, note safety decals lo­ cated on lift cylinder and dash panel.

3. Learn h o w your truck is operated. Know its safety devices, how they function and how the special attachments, if any, work.

4. The wearing of safety glasses and safety shoes is recommended.

Dress suitably and avoid loose fitting clothing.

Safety 5. Never operate a t ift truck with wet or greasy hands or shoes.

6. Before operating any I ift truck, test the horn, brakes, seat operated parking brake (hand brake optional), steering, Iift-tilt controls, direc­ tional controls and spe­ cial devices for proper operation. Report any improper operation to the proper authority.

7. A l ways l o o k all around the truck before moving it in any dir­ ection. Then remember to start and stop slowly and smoothly.

8. Operate the truck only in designated truck routes and keep opera­ ting aisles clear. One­ way traffic is recom­ mended. If this is not practical in your opera­ tion heed highway regu1 at ions and drive to right of aisle centerline.

Safety 9. Be alert for pedes­ trians, other trucks or obstacles in your path of travel.

10. Sound horn at all corners, exits, entrances and when approaching p e d e s t r i a n s o r by­ standers.

1 1. Obey all posted traffic rules and warning signs.

12. Maintain a safe dis­ tance from the truck a h e ad of you at all times.

Assure ample distance to stop smoothly and safely should the need arise.

Safety 13. Be aware of rear end swing and be alert to prevent rear end swing damage to mate­ rial in your operating area.

14. Be a ware of the pos1t1on · of your fork tips when the truck is in motion. Be alert to pre­ vent striking anything with fork tips.

1 5. Be extremely cau­ tious when operating truck near edge of load­ ��:n:;===�� ing dock.

16. Make sure vehicle being entered has been blocked to prevent acci­ dental roll. Bridge plates must have adequate strength, width, guard rails each side {mini­ mum 3" high recom­ mended), and be prop­ erly secured.

Safety 17. Never allow stunt riding or indulge in horseplay while operat­ ing a fork lift truck.

18. Never use your truck t o push or tow another. Never allow your truck to be pushed or towed by another vehicle.

Should a truck become disabled and require moving, notify the proper authority imme­ diately.

���:::a 19. Never carry un­ authorized passengers.

The quick response of a I ift truck may cause riders to fall off. Be­ sides, they distract you and this could be dan­ gerous.

20. Know the capacity of your truck and its at­ tachment (if any) and never exceed it. Study your truck data capa­ city plate and learn the facts stamped in areas 1 thru 8.
