1.1.1 General points This manual describes the procedure for fitting comfort twine tying on the following balers: – VARIANT 380/385 - Type 752 – VARIANT 360/365 - Type 751 This manual only concerns balers already fitted with comfort net tying.

It is essential to follow the safety advice given in the baler user manual.

2.1.1 General points To prevent accidents, these instructions must be read by everyone who uses the machine and who deals with maintenance, servicing or inspection.

Pay particular attention to the Safety section in the operator’s manual of the machine, and observe the accident prevention regulations applicable in the country of use.

Before starting work, ensure that all tools and equipments are to hand.

Compare the existing machine/accessories type with the list in the Bill of material section and the delivered spare parts kit.

The specification of the parts, eg. for bolts, can be found in the list headed Parts kit. In this list, every part to be fitted has a position number.

In the fitting instructions, existing parts are marked with letters and new parts with numbers for easier orientation.

Texts and pictures have been kept neutral whenever possible. Text references indicate the differences between the individual types.

Technical specifications, dimensions and weights are given as an indication only. Following CLAAS’s policy to improve its products as technical developments continue, CLAAS reserves the right to make alterations.

Front, rear, right-hand and left-hand always refer to the machine as seen in the direction of forward travel.

4.1.1 General points The procedure below describes the adaptation of the comfort twine tying kit to VARIANT 365/385 models fitted with comfort net tying.

Some details in this manual may not correspond to the configuration of your baler.

This is normal, and is due to the ongoing technical development of our products.

Stop the power take-off.

Immobilise the tractor/baler assembly.

Stop the tractor engine.

Remove the ignition key.

Result: danger of death or serious accident or damage to the baler ► Park the baler on firm, level ground. ► Always activate the parking brake before unhitching the baler from the tractor. ► Chock the wheels. ► Always put the jack stand in the safety position before unhitching the baler from the tractor.

Result: Severe injuries caused by oil penetrating the skin ► Always use specialised workshops to carry out work on the hydraulic circuit. ► Regularly check that the hydraulic pipes and hoses are in good condition. ► Replace any damaged pipes or hoses. ► Replace the hydraulic pipes every 6 years after the purchase date. ► Always wear safety gear when handling the hydraulic circuit. ► In the event of an accident, immediately consult a doctor to prevent any risk of infection.

Twine guide The twine guides (4)/(5) stop the twine from slipping on the sides of the bale. These guides are stops which are positioned closer together than the width of the bale.

The position of the guides can be adjusted depending on the crop being gathered. The drier the collected crop, the further the stops must be from the edge of the bale, i.e. from the side wall.

4.3.2 Fitting the rubber roller and the pressure roller ► On the shaft (9), preassemble the rubber roller (10) and the key (11).

Position the rubber roller (10) at a dimension (X) ► from the edge of the shaft (9).

525 mm ≤ X ≤ 530 mm 1 ft 8 11/16 in ≤ X ≤ 1 ft 8 7/8 in ► Stop the rubber roller (10) as it travels using 2 HC M10 x 8 bolts (12).

4.3.6 Fitting the drive belt and belt brake ► Refit the tying system drive belt (A). ► The strands (B) and (C) must be twisted to ensure the belts are correctly positioned in the drive pulleys.

Assembling the belt brake: ► Position the shoe (A). ► Position the springs (B). ► Position the washers (C). ► Position the plate (D) and lever (E).

Observe the correct fitting direction for the lever (E). ► Attach the lever (E) using the bolt (F).

► Stop the bolt (F) using 2 nuts (G). ► Tighten the nuts together.

The bolt (F) must rotate freely.

The brake must operate without constraint.

Rotate the pulley so that the pulley holes coincide with the holes on the locking disc. ► Check that the fork (34) is engaged.

Adjusting the twine tensioner The twine tensioner is adjusted before fitting the twine. ► Tighten or loosen the nut (A) to adjust the length (X) of the springs on each twine tensioner.

58 mm ≤ X ≤ 59 mm 2 9/32 in ≤ X ≤ 2 5/16 in ► Then, adapt the length (X) of the springs to the thickness of the twine used.

Note: If the twine used is very fine, tension the springs further to avoid fault messages appearing on the control terminal screen.

– To house additional reels of twine for the twine tying system, the lower section of the twine box will be fitted with separation panels. ► If the lower section of the twine box is equipped to house an additional reel of net, keep the separation panels (53) and (54), and the corresponding hardware: No.

► Remove the wiring harness (A) located along the left-hand drawbar arm. ► Connect the section of the wiring harness available for the twine tying system control to the drive motor for the tying system shuttle (B) and to the knife position sensor (C). ► Secure the wiring harness (D) using plastic ties (59) to ensure it is not liable to get caught up in moving parts. ► Secure the wiring harness (A) using plastic ties (58) to ensure it is not liable to get caught up in moving parts.
