1 Introduction INTRODUCTION This operator's manual is the original operator's manual. Hereafter, it is referred to simply as the operator's manual.

This operator's manual provides information on the use, adjustment, and operation of your CLAAS drum mower.

Follow advice on correct maintenance and servicing to ensure maximum performance and a long service life of your machine.

In addition, assembly of your machine and regular inspections must be carried out by your specialist workshop. Failure to carry out maintenance work, or incorrect operation will result in poor machine efficiency and loss of valuable time.

Make use of the experience and latest knowledge embodied in this machine by operating and maintaining it properly, then your cutting mechanism, mower unit will always produce good results.

3 Preface Of special importance Please note that the CLAAS drum mower is also simply called 'machine' or 'mower' in the following chapters.

To prevent accidents, this operator's manual must be read by everyone who uses the machine and who deals with maintenance, servicing or inspection.

Some safety devices, covers have been removed only for better presentation of the machine in diagrams. All safety devices, covers must be attached before operating the machine!

Please make a point of reading the sections "Safety rules" and "Prior to operation".

The use of spare parts, accessories and additional equipment which is not originally manufactured, checked and released by CLAAS can have a negative effect on specific design features of the CLAAS machine or on its operability, thereby impairing active and/or passive operating safety, as well as safety at work (accident prevention).

CLAAS will in no way be liable for damage or personal injury caused by the use of non-original CLAAS parts, accessories and additional equipment.

Technical specifications, dimensions and weights are understood with the usual tolerances.

IMPORTANT: Front, rear, right and left are always understood as in the direction of travel.

AVOIDABLE INCORRECT APPLICATIONS

Prior to operation, read the operator's manual and follow the safety instructions!

INTENDED USE The CLAAS drum mower is designed exclusively for professional use in accordance with recognised agricultural practice for the harvesting of fodder plants.

The drum mower is an agricultural machine designed to be fitted to a tractor / tractor truck licensed / approved by the manufacturer and which is suitable and designed for mowing fodder plants while travelling over the field. The term fodder plants is understood to refer to stalk crops such as grass, lucerne, barley and rye.

With its cutter aggregate, the drum mower cuts upright or slightly inclined fodder plants. The fodder plants are deposited behind the disc mower, with or without a feed aggregate, ready for further processing.

When travelling on public roads, depending on the applicable road vehicle regulations, the drum mower can be fitted to the front or rear of a tractor / tractor truck licensed / approved by the manufacturer and pushed or trailed.

The machine may only be used, serviced and repaired by persons who are familiar with the handling of the machine and who have been informed of the function-related hazards involved.

The machine is not designed for any use above and beyond the intended use, and such use therefore constitutes incorrect application of the machine as defined by the Machinery Directive. The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage resulting from inappropriate use. Responsibility for such use lies exclusively with the user.

Examples of such inappropriate use of the CLAAS front attachment (direct disc) are: Failure to comply with the procedures described in the operator's manual when carrying out adjustment, cleaning or maintenance operations.

Remedying problems or carrying out maintenance work with the drives and / or diesel engine running.

Failure to observe warnings on the machine and in the operator's manual.

Allowing maintenance and repairs to be carried out by persons not trained to perform such work.

Making unauthorised modifications to the machine.

Attaching additional equipment which is not licensed / approved.

The use of spare parts other than original CLAAS parts.

Using the machine for stationary applications.

Using the machine to mow / cut plants not defined as fodder plants, for example hedges, bushes, maize stubble or woody shrubs.

Using the machine to mow the at the edges of roads / paths / stony areas.

Intended use is understood to include compliance with the instructions contained in the operator's manual and with the operating, maintenance and servicing conditions prescribed by the manufacturer.

Using the machine for mowing / cutting at or below ground level.

The owner and all persons using the machine must observe the relevant accident prevention regulations and all other generally recognised rules of safety engineering, occupational health and road safety.

Using the machine to transport persons.

Using the machine to transport goods.

Any use above and beyond this is deemed to be "inappropriate use." The manufacturer accepts no liability for damage resulting from inappropriate use.

Responsibility for such use lies exclusively with the user.

For special cases, you can request corresponding information on intended use from CLAAS.

Safety Rules DE-COMMISSIONING AND DISPOSAL When the machine or its components reach the end of their service life and are handed over for scrapping, the components must be disposed of in an appropriate manner. Observe the regulations imposed by the relevant local authorities.

The operating fluids in the machine must be disposed of by special means and must not be allowed to leak into the environment. For further information on how to dispose of these substances appropriately, contact your local authority, CLAAS workshop or CLAAS customer service.

– Products bearing the symbol (1) must not be disposed of with the household waste when they reach the end of their service life.

– Spent batteries contain hazardous substances and must be returned to the retailer, disposed of appropriately or handed in to a waste disposal centre. Do not dispose of spent batteries with household waste.

– Operating fluids such as oils, hydraulic fluids, brake fluid or fuels must be treated as hazardous waste and disposed of accordingly.

– Refrigerants must be disposed of by specialist companies with appropriately trained personnel and the requisite equipment. Refrigerants must never be allowed to escape into the atmosphere. Have refrigerants disposed of by a CLAAS specialist workshop. Observe the relevant regulations for the country in question.

– Observe the regulations imposed by the relevant local authorities.

– Packaging material should be recycled and not disposed of with household waste.

Safety Rules IDENTIFICATION OF WARNING AND DANGER SIGNS

GENERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

All parts of this manual relating to your safety or the safe operation of the machine are marked with the following signs. Please pass all safety instructions on to other users, too.

Basic rule: Always check that the machine and the tractor are safe to operate and comply with the road traffic regulations before putting them into operation!

General information:

Danger!

Sign to indicate instructions which must be observed. Failure to do so would cause danger to the life and limb of the operator and the people around him.

– Preventive measures.

In addition to the instructions in this operator's manual, comply with the general safety and accident prevention regulations!

The warning and instruction decals on the machine provide important recommendations for safe operation; these instructions involve your safety!

Always comply with the local traffic regulations when driving on public roads!

Attention!

Sign to indicate instructions which must be observed. Failure to do so could result in damage to the machine.

During operation, always stay a safe distance from the cutting tools!

– Measures to prevent damage to the machine.

Safe operation of the mower unit can only be ensured if the mower blades are fitted correctly. The special tools supplied with the machine must be used for assembly!

Note!

Before putting the machine into operation, always check the mower unit for damaged, missing or worn mower blades and replace if necessary!

Sign to indicate instructions for a more efficient and economic use of the machine.

Environment!

Sign to indicate instructions which must be observed in order to avoid damage to the environment.

Danger to the environment is caused by irregular handling and/or incorrect disposal of toxic material (e. g. used oil).

The warning and danger signs attached to the machine contain important instructions for safe operation. These instructions involve your safety - observe them at all times!

Before starting work, familiarise yourself with all the controls and instruments and their functions. It is too late to do this once you have started work with the machine!

To avoid dangerous unbalance, always replace missing and damaged mower blades in sets as prescribed by the manufacturer!

When replacing mower blades, always check securing bolts as prescribed by the manufacturer and replace them if necessary!

It is especially important to check how far the mower blade has worn into the inner radius of the blade retaining pin. The mower blade bracket must be replaced with a new one with an intact blade retaining pin, at the latest when the groove worn reaches a depth of 3 mm, i.e. when the inner radius has been reduced by 3 mm.

It is also important to check the riveting attaching the blade retaining pin in the mower blade bracket and the wear on the outer edge of the mower blade bracket. If necessary, all mower blade brackets on the mowing drum must be replaced with new mower blade brackets.

The safety guards must be checked regularly, and worn or damaged safety guards must be replaced!

Safety Rules The safety devices on the mower unit, e.g. canvas and hoods, are fitted to provide protection against stones etc. thrown up by the mower and to prevent access to danger zones on the machine. For this reason, they must be moved to their correct position before commencing work with the machine!

When the mower unit swings from transport to working position or vice versa, there is a danger of crushing or cutting injuries. Never step between the tractor and the mower unit. The swinging motion must take place with the mower unit in horizontal position.

The glide discs must be flat on the ground before the machine is put into operation and during operation!

Stones etc. may also be hurled upwards when the mower unit is operated correctly. Therefore, no-one should be in the danger zone.

Be particularly careful when working near roads and buildings!

The tools on the mower unit may run on after the drive has been switched off. Do not approach until the tools have come to a standstill.

If you strike an obstacle, switch the mower unit off immediately and check for damage!

Wear close-fitting clothing when working on the front attachment. Avoid wearing loose-fitting clothes!

Keep the machine clean to prevent the danger of fire!

Check that the immediate vicinity is clear before driving off and before putting the equipment into operation (children!). Ensure that your field of vision is unobstructed!

Persons must not be allowed to travel on the machine while it is in operation or during transport!

Always hitch up the machine as prescribed and only attach and secure to the prescribed couplings!

Position the support devices correctly when attaching or disconnecting the machine! (Firm stand!)

Pay particular attention when hitching up and uncoupling the machine to and from the tractor!

Always attach the ballast weights as prescribed at the attachment points provided for this purpose!

Observe the max. permissible transport dimensions!

Observe the permissible axle loads and total weights!

Check and fit transport equipment - e.g. lighting, warning devices and any safety devices!

Operating devices (ropes, chains, linkages etc.) of remotely controlled equipment must be routed in such a way that they cannot trigger unintentional movements in any transport or working positions!

Before driving on public roads, prepare the machine accordingly and secure as prescribed by the manufacturer!

Never leave the operator's platform while the machine is moving!

Always adapt your driving speed to suit the prevailing conditions! When driving up- or downhill or across a slope, avoid making sudden turns!

Driving characteristics, steering and braking performance are influenced by any trailed machines or towed and by ballast weights! Ensure that the machine remains steerable and can be braked safely!

When driving around curves, make allowance for the wide swing and/or the inertia of the machine!

Do not put the machine into operation unless all safety devices are fitted and in the correct position!

Persons must stay out of the working area and danger zone of the equipment!

Keep out of the turning and pivoting range of the machine!

Remote-powered (e.g. hydraulically powered) components present a risk of crushing or shearing!

Before leaving the tractor, secure the machine!

Lower any attached equipment completely! Stop the engine and remove the ignition key!

Persons are not allowed to enter the area between the tractor and the machine unless the vehicle has been secured to prevent it rolling by applying the parking brake and/or with wheel chocks!

ATTACHED MACHINES Before attaching the machine to / detaching it from the three-point linkage, move the operating lever to a position in which unintentional raising or lowering is impossible!

When attaching machines to the three-point linkage, the linkage categories of the tractor and the machine must match or corresponding modifications must be made!

There is a danger of crushing or cutting injuries in the area of the three-point linkage!

When operating the remote control for the three-point linkage, do not stand between the tractor and the machine!

Safety Rules When the machine is in transport position, always ensure that the tractor three-point linkage is sufficiently secured to prevent lateral movement!

When driving on public roads with the machine raised, the control lever must be locked to prevent unintentional lowering!

TRAILED MACHINES

Before cleaning, lubricating or adjusting machines driven by a PTO shaft or the universal drive shaft, switch off the PTO shaft, turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition!

Place the uncoupled universal drive shaft on the bracket provided or secure it with a chain!

After detaching the universal drive shaft, place the protective cover over the stub of the PTO drive!

Secure equipment against rolling away.

Observe the max. permissible load for the tow jaw coupling, swinging drawbar or hitch!

If there is any damage, repair it immediately, before working with the machine!

When using a drawbar, ensure that there is sufficient freedom of movement at the suspension point!

PTO OPERATION Use only the universal drive shafts prescribed by the manufacturer!

The protective tube and guard of the universal drive shaft and the PTO shaft guard must be fitted and functional! Ensure that the universal drive shafts are covered by the guards as prescribed in both transport and working position!

The PTO shaft must be switched off, the engine turned off and the key removed from the ignition before fitting or detaching the universal drive shaft!

When using universal drive shafts with overrunning or freewheel clutches which are not covered by the safety devices on the tractor, the overrunning or freewheel clutches must be fitted on the device side!

Always ensure that the universal drive shaft is correctly installed and attached!

Attach the safety chain to prevent the power take-off shaft guard from rotating with the drive shaft.

Before switching the PTO shaft on, check that the selected speed and direction of rotation of the tractor PTO drive is compatible with the max. permissible speed and direction of rotation of the equipment!

Before switching the PTO shaft on, ensure that there is no-one in the danger zone of the machine!

Never switch the PTO drive on while the engine is turned off!

When working with the PTO shaft, ensure that there is no-one in the area of the rotating PTO shaft or universal drive shaft!

Always turn off the PTO shaft when it is bent too far or when it is not required!

Attention, after turn off the PTO drive, there is danger caused by the centrifugal mass running on! Stay clear of the machine during this time! Wait until it has come to a complete standstill before working on it again!

Safety Rules HYDRAULIC SYSTEM The hydraulic system is under high pressure!

When connecting hydraulic cylinders and engines, make sure that the hydraulic hoses are connected as prescribed!

When connecting the hydraulic hoses to the tractor's hydraulic system, make sure that the hydraulic system on both tractor and machine side is depressurised!

Female and male couplings should be labelled on hydraulic function connections between the tractor and the machine to avoid the risk of operating errors! If the connections are swapped, the functions are reversed (e.g. raising/lowering) – Danger of accidents!

Inspect hydraulic hose connections regularly, and replace them if damaged or deteriorated! The damaged or worn lines must be replaced with hose lines which meet the manufacturer's technical requirements!

Use suitable aids to prevent injury when checking for leaks!

Fluids (hydraulic oil) escaping under high pressure can penetrate the skin and cause serious injury. In the event of injury, consult a doctor immediately!

– Danger of infection!

Before performing work on the hydraulic system, lower the machine, depressurise the system and switch off the engine!

TYRES

To perform repairs on pretensioned energy-storage devices (springs, pressure accumulators etc.), the appropriate specialist know-how and the prescribed assembly tools are required. Such work must always be carried out by specialist workshops!

Regularly check that nuts and bolts are tightly seated and tighten them if required!

Before carrying out maintenance operations on the raised machine, ensure that it is securely positioned on suitable supports!

Use suitable tools and wear safety gloves when replacing working parts!

Dispose of oil, grease, and filters in the prescribed manner!

Always disconnect the power supply before performing work on the electrical system!

Safety devices which are subject to wear must be inspected regularly and replaced in good time!

Spare parts must at least meet the technical requirements specified by the equipment manufacturer! This can be ensured, e.g. by using original parts!

Before carrying out any electrical welding work on the tractor and attached machines, always disconnect the leads from the generator and the battery!

NOISE PRESSURE LEVEL If the noise pressure level at the driver's ear exceeds 85 dB (A) (see »Technische Daten«), hearing protection must be worn.

When working on tyres, ensure that the machine is safely parked and secured against rolling away (wheel chocks)!

Fitting tyres and wheels requires specialist know-how and the correct tools!

Repair work on tyres and wheels must be performed by specialist personnel using suitable tools!

Check air pressure regularly! Observe the recommended tyre pressures!

MAINTENANCE Before carrying out servicing, maintenance and cleaning work or remedying malfunctions, always switch off the drive and wait until the engine has come to a standstill!

– Remove the ignition key!

Wait until the mowing drum has come to a complete standstill!

Safety Rules SAFETY DECALS WITH PICTORIALS Safety decals are attached to the danger zones of the machine. These safety decals help to alert persons to hazards which can cause personal injury. The pictorials provide instructions to avoid the hazard.

These safety signs, their placement on the machine and a brief explanatory text are shown on the following pages.

The CLAAS part number of every decal is stated ahead of the text.

The figure in ( ) refers to the adjacent picture and indicates the correct location of the decal on the machine.

Safety decals that are damaged or cannot be recognised any more must be replaced immediately by new ones.

When parts that have decals are replaced, always make sure to install the relevant new decals with each new part.

CHECK EVERY TIME PRIOR TO OPERATION 1. Check oil level in the gearbox and in the gear casing.

2. Prior to operation, lubricate thoroughly – see Lubrication chart, page 10.1.

3. Check that the mower blades are properly fastened.– see Mower blades, page 9.6 4. Check bolts for tightness.

5. Only engage the drive when the mowing unit is in the lowered (working) position.

6. Check safety devices (e.g. overload clutches, covers of drive parts, ...) for function and correct fit.

7. Use safety chains to prevent the drive shaft guards from rotating with the drive shaft.

8. Check that the tractor's PTO speed matches the mower's permissible operating speed.

9. Observe max. PTO speed and direction of rotation – see Specifications, page 5.1!

10. Check safety curtains for signs of wear or damage.

11. After attaching the mower unit and connecting the universal drive shaft, carefully check whether the universal drive shaft is moving freely, for this: • Carefully raise and lower the machine.

12. Switch mower unit to working position.

13. Engage the tractor p.t.o shaft at idle speed and the machine discharged in the working position only.

14. Never let the mower unit run without supervision.

15. Order all persons out of the danger area. Should anyone approach the mower, switch it off immediately.

Before first operation of the machine, adjust attachment and universal drive shaft to tractor.

When lifting and lowering the machine, risk of injury though crushing and cutting exists in the trailer strap area.

– Never reach into the crushing danger area as long as the parts can move.

– Nobody should be between the tractor and the machine.

Adjusting the universal drive shaft Because of the wide variety of PTO shaft lengths on the individual tractor models, it is often necessary to adjust the length of the universal drive shaft.

Adapting the length Pull universal drive shaft apart and push halves of universal drive shaft with free wheel mechanism and plate clutch onto the drive shaft of the machine and the other half onto the PTO shaft of the tractor.

Swivel the machine into working position. Place the two halves of the universal drive shaft next to each other and check the lengths with the machine in the lowered and in the lifted position.

Ensure as much overlap as possible. The universal drive shaft can only be pulled apart by half the distance of the composed state (LZ) of the existing slider section cover (PU).

Shorten the inner and outer guard tubes by the same amount.

When removing the gearbox, low-viscosity grease will come out of the drive tube.

Any low-viscosity grease that comes out must be collected and disposed of in the proper manner.

The more the suspension springs are extended when lowering the machine, due to a shorter chain length, the higher is the weight relief (reduced ground pressure).

The less the suspension springs are extended, due to increased chain length, the lower is the weight relief (increased ground pressure).

Repair, maintenance and cleaning tasks, as well as the elimination of malfunctions should only be done with the PTO and engine switched off.

– Uncouple universal drive shaft!

Lubrication Observe the specified oil-change intervals, and the correct oil grade in the gearbox. Use only good quality grease or oil to lubricate the machine. Clean the grease nipples before applying the grease gun.

Grease all points that require lubrication, observing the intervals specified in the lubrication chart.

The stipulated lubrication intervals apply to normal service conditions only. If the machine is operated under rough conditions, it must be lubricated more frequently.

Lubricate all universal joints from time to time.

– Remove the ignition key!

Repair, maintenance and cleaning work on the elevated machine should only ever be undertaken with when properly supported.

Hydraulic system

Damaged protective devices must be replaced with new ones.

The four drive V-belts are automatically tensioned by the springs located in the spacing bushes (1) (Fig. 1, 2).

The springs are to be pre-tensioned so that there is a gap of 1 - 2 mm between the spacing bush (1) and the disc (2).

This gap should be checked from time to time and be corrected if necessary by turning down both nuts (3).

Fig. 3 shows the tensioning device on the side of the V-belt pulleys.

On the gearbox side, the tensioning is to be carried out as follows:

Turn back both nuts (4). Turn the nuts (3) down until there is a gap of 1 - 2 mm between the spacing bush (1) and the disc (2), and a gap of 2 - 3 mm between the nuts (4) and the strap (5).

Lock the nuts (3) and (4) against each other (Fig. 1, 2).

The V-belts can be checked once the guard plates have been removed.

If one of the V-belts is worn or broken, then the entire V-belt set must be replaced.

Gear casing For lubricating the drive in the gear casing, use only hypoid gear oil SAE 90 in accordance with (MIL-L-2105) API-G-L- 5-90.

Draining oil: The oil in the gear casing is drained via the drain plug (5). For this, position the gear casing at an angle towards the drain plug (5). Clean the drain plug (5) before screwing it back in.

For lubricating the main gearbox, use only hypoid gear oil SAE 90 according to (MIL-L-2105) API-GL-5-90.

Clean the magnetic plug at every oil change.

To change the oil, remove the flat round screw (7) on the right hand and left hand side. In the case of the screw, the nut (8) should be loosened until the cover (9) can be swung away towards the back.

Maintenance CUT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT All moving parts of the adjusting device (thread insert, cams, etc.) must be disassembled and cleaned after any maintenance or repair work, but at least every 1000 operating hours, and then lubricated with new long-term grease.

10 In the case of mower units manufactured from 2005, the adjustment no longer has to be removed and dismantled. The adjustment can be lubricated by means of a bolt with a grease nipple (1) on top. For this, unscrew a hex bolt (2) underneath skid plate (3), screw in bolt with grease nipple (1) and lubricate with long-life grease. Then remove bolt with grease nipple (1) again and replace normal hex bolt (2) with washer.

The specification of this long-term grease is: DIN 51 502 KPF 2 G, and is available commercially or via our Spare Parts Service.

Maintenance MOWER BLADES Replacing mower blades Danger!

Any work on the mower blades or their mountings may only be done when the PTO is disengaged, the engine is switched off, and the mower drums are fully stopped.

– Switch off mower drive.

– Switch off engine.

– Wait until the mower drums have come to a complete stop before leaving the driving seat.

– Remove the ignition key!

– Wear gloves when working on the mower blades!

Attention!

Always check the mower blades before operation and after driving into an obstacle!

– Always check that the mower blades are correctly seated!

– Worn, damaged, or deformed blades must be replaced immediately.

– To prevent damage to the mowing unit due to unbalance, missing or damaged mower blades may only be replaced as a complete set per mower drum.

Replacement blades must meet the minimum technical requirements specified by CLAAS. This is guaranteed, if original CLAAS mower blades are used.

Note!

Use only sharp mower blades for neat cutting.

Use of blunt blades requires more power and reduces the cutting quality.

Blunt blades can be turned over and mounted on the same mower drum, so that the blade's second cutting edge is used.

To replace the mower blades:

• Insert the mounting lever (3) between the skid

plate (6) and mower drum (5).

• Pull the mounting lever upwards, and remove the blade (4).

• Mount the new blade so that the lower blade edge points in the mower drum's direction of rotation.

In order to use the second cutting edge of an angled blade, it only need to be turned upside down. Hereby, ensure that the lower edge (7) of the blade (4) points in the mower drum's direction of rotation.

Straight mower blades: In order to be able to use both edges of the straight blades, it is possible to change the blades from the right to the left drum or vice versa.

Maintenance MOWER BLADE HOLDERS Every time the mower blades are replaced, the inner radius of the blade mounting stud must be checked for wear grooves caused by the blade. At the latest when the wear groove in the stud has reached a depth of 3 mm, all the mounting parts must be replaced, including a new mounting stud.

Similarly, you must check the rivet heads of the mounting studs in the blade holder for tightness, and check for signs of wear on the outer edge of the holder (arrow).

Damaged or worn blade holders must always be replaced.

Replacement blades must meet the minimum technical requirements specified by CLAAS. This is guaranteed, if original CLAAS mower blades are used.

Never attempt to weld a broken blade holder.

If necessary, all the blade holders of the mower drum must be replaced.

(Fig. 17) If the mower drum shows signs of wear in the area of the mower blades, all blade holders must be remounted in the other hole pattern.

UNIVERSAL DRIVE SHAFT Danger!

Only work on the universal drive shafts with drive turned off and engine at standstill.

– Remove the ignition key!

The drive shaft must be serviced according to the instructions of the drive shaft manufacturer (see manufacturer's operator's manual).

Observe the safety instructions of the manufacturer!

Maintenance General information for universal drive shafts Danger!

Never operate universal drive shafts without or with damaged guard.

– Mount shaft guard and tube guards.

– Secure guard against rotating!

– The universal drive shafts must only be operated when in good condition.

Immediately replace damaged or missing tube guards, universal drive shaft guards and securing chains.

Protect the universal drive shafts from the influence of weather.

After the harvest season, clean and lubricate universal drive shafts in all parts thoroughly.

The guard tubes must be greased to prevent freezing during winter.

After an extended period of non-use, relubricate the universal drive shafts before using and check that they function properly.

Maintaining the plate clutch After extended periods of non-use, ventilate the clutch.

Fully tighten the hex. nuts of the studs.

Loosen the stuck friction discs by rotating the clutch hub by hand.

Then turn back the hex. nuts of the studs to the thread.

Distance of the swath discs (10) to the ground = 30 mm.

To adjust the disc, loosen the screws (9) and align the swath disc accordingly.

(Fig. 23) Inclined alignment of the swath discs: On the CORTO 290F/ 290 FN/ 270F/ 270 FN, the swath discs must be vertical or turned up to 30mm inwards underneath (Fig. 24).

Adjust by releasing the clamping screws (4) and rotating the tube (3) (Fig. 23).

On very uneven ground, the rear swath discs can be adjusted in height by relocating the screw (9) (Fig. 23) in the different holes.

Maintenance FASTENERS Regularly inspect all safety-relevant fasteners such as studs, bolts, pins etc. for wear and distortion. Replace fasteners with new ones if necessary.

BOLTED CONNECTIONS After 10 hours in operation, recheck all nuts and bolts on the machine and tighten them. Check regularly!

END OF SEASON STORAGE 1. Clean the dirt off the machine.

2. Drain oil from gearboxes and cutter bar and refill with new oil up to prescribed oil level.

3. Thoroughly lubricate all lubrication points until the grease spills out of the bearings – see Lubrication, page 10.1.

Let the mower unit run for a short time.

4. Check machine for wear and damage and have it repaired if necessary.

5. Clean rusted locations and touch up damaged paint.

6. Store machine in a dry room protected from the weather and where no fertiliser manure is stored.
