Rear axle Description The GPA 20 rear axle is an original Gima axle. The GPA 20 rear axle has 4 types : GPA 22, GPA 22+, GPA 23 and GPA 23+. The axle houses : – The different hydraulic pumps.

– the power take-off clutch and brake.

– Power take-off speed selector (540/1 000) with the possibility of having economic speeds (540 Eco/1 000 Eco) and proportional (540 prop/1 000 prop).

– Hand brake ON – The differential and its locking system.

– The front axle clutch (4 wheel drive).

PTO proportional to engine speed MECHANICAL PART Description The PTO proportional to engine speed is part of the GPA 20 axle. The PTO proportional to engine speed is manufactured by Gima. The exit shaft of the PTO proportional to engine speed receives the movement from

the primary drive shaft , which then transmits it to the clutch and gears . Speed selection of the PTO proportional with engine speed is performed by yoke and cluster.

Operating laws When activating the PTO proportional to engine speed, the low pressure driving circuit sends oil into the clutch housing. The clutch spring, then the spring washer, are compressed by the piston and the friction disc are pushed

When idle (upper part of the illustration), the spring (C) pushes the piston (E) to the left, hence releasing the clutch discs.

– Pressing more than 6 seconds allows permanent and smooth drive of the PTO shaft. In this case, the indicator on the "Cebis" terminal is On. Engaging request : – The supply of the PTO clutch follows a predefined acceleration law.

– When starting the PTO, if no information is received from the PTO load sensor, the clutch supply follows a default law (smooth but with slower acceleration).

– When starting the power take-off, if the engine speed drop is too sharp (50%), the power supply of the clutch solenoid valve is interrupted.

Action on the palm button command "S114" or one of the external emergency stop controls opens the selfmaintaining loop. The PTO proportional to engine speed is off.

Electronic components Operating laws PTO automation allows the PTO to be engaged or disengaged automatically according to the position of the rear lifting arms.

The rear PTO is engaged automatically by pressing the command button "S172". This supplies the solenoid valve of the multidisc clutch.

PTO automation is disengaged by pressing the command button "S172" again.

When the PTO is engaged with or without automation, it is possible to adjust PTO automation by pressing the button for more than 2 seconds in the current linkage position.

Protection Before using PTO automation, its adjustment must be checked to ensure correct operation of the PTO without damaging the tractor/implement linkage.

If when engaged the rear PTO generates engine overheating exceeding 50%, the PTO is disengaged automatically after 5 seconds.

For heavy momentum tools: if after 10 seconds the rotation speed drops below 98% nominal rotation speed, a safey device cancels PTO engaging automatically.

In the economic mode: if the engine speed exceeds 1900 rev/min, the PTO clutch disconnects automatically to protect the tools driven.

The hydraulic supply pressure comes from the low pressure hydraulic circuit of the tractor.

Operating laws When commanding the rear PTO brake , for example with the "S173" contact, the driving circuit sends low pressure oil into the brake's piston .

When the command is cancelled, pressure drops at 0 bar.

In this case, the effort on the bearing is zero, and the primary line is no longer slown.

The piston pushes the bearing, which increases its preload, and hence slows the primary line.

– Actuate the brakes over the entire stroke of the pedals.

Use the kit n°kit N° 01 78 310.0 to perform measurements and read then on a computer.

– Raise pressure, which must be 45 bars for service brakes fitted with master cylinders, and 70 bars for service brakes fitted with boosters. The trailer hydraulic braking pressure is 140 +/- 5 bars. The trainler air braking pressure is 8 bars.

The point is to display the curves of the different types of braking (service, brake, trailer hydraulic brake, air brake) to see if the tractor brakes the trailer properly.

The graph below shows high pressure braking with the trailer hydraulic and air braking.

Operating laws The cut-out relay creates waiting pressure of 78 to 93 bar in the accumulator “5016”. This pressure is then used by the brake valves activate the brake pistons. The cut-out relay block is fed by the high-pressure hydraulic circuit through the filter (5). The all or nothing solenoid valve (1) allows adjustment of the pressure in the brake circuit "FR". Pressure is controlled by an analogue sensor "B233".

• Engine ignition phase : – The solenoid valve (1) is activated (closed hydraulically)on command from the starter – After the command from the starter, the solenoid valve is de-activated until observation of the pressure level which corresponds to the opening of the pressure limiting device (for its inspection). The pressure limiting device

authorises maximum pressure of 105 bar in the brake circuit.

• Operating phase : – When pressure drops below 78 bars, the (1) solenoid valve is deactivated : Pressure rises in the “5016” accumulator.

– When pressure exceeds 93 bars, the (1) solenoid valve is activated : The “5016” accumulator is no longer supplied.

– Between 78 and 93 bar the pressure is maintained in the accumulator by a non-return valve (3). The discharge valve (2) enables circuit pressure to drop for servicing (engine off).

Operating laws The input pressure (P) of high-pressure brake valves is supplied by a cut-out relay: it varies between 78 and 93 bar. Each brake pedal is linked to an On/Off valve (1) or (3) and the proportional valve (2). During a brake command from a single pedal, this moves the corresponding proportional valve (2) and the On/Off valve. In this case, the opposite brake is not fed due to the

closure of the other On/Off valve. The stronger the foot pressure the more the proportional valve gives greater pressure to the left and right On/Off valves. The circuit selector allows a control pressure (X) to pass to the trailer brakes only if the left and right breaks are activated simultaneously.

Operating laws The voltage adaptation base plate “V24” is supplied by the “TR2” module under 10V. The “V24” voltage adaptation plate supplies the “B233” braking pressure sensor under *5V (this voltage is also returned to the “TR2” module for checking). The sensor returnrs a signal to module “TR2” according to the change in pressure in the braking pressure. If pressure drops below 78 bar, the solenoid valve is not supplied, which allows increasing pressure in the braking circuit. When pressure reaches 93 bar (except

upon starting, were the trigger pressure occurs at 105 ± 2 bars), the solenoid valve is supplied, allowing to cut the pressure increase in the braking circuit. In case of fault of the braking circuit (pressure too low or too high), the “KH7” relay is supplied by the “TR2” module to light the “A101” dashboard lamp. The brake pedal sensors inform the “TR2” module of the braking, which places this information available over the “Powertrain CAN bus” network.

General description This is thus a positive braking system : • Pressure from the yellow coupling head pilots the displacement of the spool in the emergency relay valve.

• A rupture to the hose at the coupling (for example during mechanicla rupture of the coupling between the tractor and the trailor) causes the trailer to stop. The release valve, however, allows the trailer to move in this case by using the compressed air in the reservoir.

Pneumatic brake MECHANICAL PART Description 7002p

When the handbrake lever is pulled, the handbrake lever control cable drives the control lever (C) in rotation around its axis . The rod (B) then actuates the pneumatic valve control lever (A). The valve sends into the rest of the circuit the pneumatic signal required for pneumatic trailor braking.

Pneumatic brake – Connect the pressure gauge onto the black coupling head.

– Check the tank is pressurized.

– If pressure measured on the black coupling head is not correct, adjust the control rod by screwing or unscrewing it.

– Look at the pressure gauge in the cab.

– Lock the 2 locknuts once the setting is compliant.

The pressure should be 8 bar. If required, start the tractor to inflate the tank.

The air braking control rod (B) is fastened on the handbrake control lever (C) (in the first index), and the control lever of the pneumatic valve (A).

Hand brake release, The pressure should be 5 bar.

When the handbrake is set at 2 to 4 notches, pressure must be 0 bars.

The pressure gauge allows monitoring the status of the pneumatic circuit while indicating continuously the value of pressure inside the circuit. The main control valve is controlled mechanically by the handbrake (B) and hydraulically by the brake valve (E) of the tractor. The main control valve informs the rest of the circuit on the status in which the tractor is (braking phase or drive valve).

Pneumatic brake Measurements and checks Braking circuit pressure control To check the pneumatic braking circuit pressures, proceed as follows : – Unscrew the coupling head concerned.

– Insert a té fitting with the dimensions shown opposite between the coupling head and supply line.

Checking effectiveness of the trailer hydraulic braking For this test, refer to the chapter "C4" or "C5" according to the type of service brake fitted on the tractor.

Bleeding of the pneumatic trailor braking system The principal checking valve control has a bleed screw (P). To bleed the braking system, refer to the chapter "C4" and "C5".

Note : After the bleeding operation, check the braking is effective by connecting the pressure gauges to the trailer air outlets and check the pressures.
