➥ for about 5 – 10 seconds at normal temperatures (over 0 °C) and ➥ for about 15 – 60 seconds at low temperatures (below 0 °C) ➥ The intake air is preheated via a temperature-dependent time lag relay ➥ The telltale goes out as soon the preheating temperature is reached ☞ Press accelerator pedal 22/10 through about a quarter of its travel and ☞ Turn the ignition key to position “3” and hold it in this position until the engine starts ☞ Release the ignition key ☞ Replace defective telltales immediately

Caution! In order to avoid damage to the engine and the exhaust turbocharger due to insufficient lube oil supply:
☞ Do not run the cold engine at full throttle when starting and • let the engine warm up at low idling revs (for about 30 seconds)
☞ When switching off the engine: • Do not switch off the engine from full throttle • Let the engine run at idling speed for about 2 minutes
☞ Check that the following telltales have gone out: • Telltale 54 • Telltale 52 • Telltale 47
Important! In general, a battery delivers less energy in cold conditions. Therefore make sure the battery is always well charged.
