Safety Follow all safety recommendations found in this and other LDS3000 operating manuals.

The power cable must be easily accessible at all times. Should a problem develop, the unit must be easily and quickly isolated. Use only the original power cable, do not use third party components.

All the cables and connections must be checked by a qualified technician. This includes the power cable and any extension cables.

Introduction The LDS3000 Diagnostic Computer is required for machines that are computer based and when communication with the machine is only possible with a computer.

Make sure all connections are made, before power is supplied.

The LDS3000 is a fully integrated information and diagnostic system for fault finding and processing.

This unit can take the place of a laptop computer.

Its rugged construction, with touch screen, makes it suitable for dusty and oily environments.

The batteries used are specially designed for the computer and are only available from the OEM. No other rechargeable batteries may be used.

Disposal of the batteries must be within local recycling regulations.

The portable LDS3000 Diagnostic Computer consists of computer processor, touch screen, user interface, data storage, and serial interface for diagnostic communication.

The LDS3000 is protected against radio interference.

The unit must NOT be used for checking voltages above 150 VAC or DC.

The LDS3000 must not be subjected to magnetic fields. Magnets can damage or delete the data on the hard drive.

The system runs under the Microsoft™ DOS or Windows 95™ operating systems, which are now a standard operating platform for PC’s world-wide.

The diagnostic software runs under Windows95™.

The unit has a built-in CAN card and measurements card. This is a complete system designed to be user friendly with a completely integrated hardware and software system.

Currently there are no known compatibility problems and the unit has a self-test function.

Explanation of Components

1. LCD Touch Screen This screen can be controlled using finger pressure. The operator can use the touch screen in any program.

Computer Mounting Computer to Base Station NOTICE

NOTICE

Make sure the computer is switched OFF before mounting it onto the base station. If the computer is ON, the data can be corrupted.

Touching the screen with any sharp object may damage the screen beyond repair.

2. Power ON Key When the Power ON key is pressed, the computer will turn ON and the unit will beep.

After five seconds the green Power ON lamp will illuminate and the computer will go through the normal boot-up sequence.

The parallel docking port connects the computer to the base station. The disk drives and power supply for the computer are connected via this port.

Make sure that when the computer is on the base station, the sliding docking port is fully connected (pushed in). If not fully connected, communication to the disk drives will not be available. (Micro switch in the slider is not activated.)

The computer requires about 30 seconds to load Windows™ and display the desktop screen.

When the base station is connected to an external power source, and the computer is attached, the computer will be powered from the base station.

The base station will charge the batteries on the computer and the green “External DC Power” lamp should be ON.

3. Brightness Control (increase) The brightness control will increase the brightness of the screen.

4. Brightness Control (decrease) The brightness control will decrease the brightness of the screen.

Before removing the computer from the base station, make sure it is switched OFF.

5. Power Saver When this key is pressed, the computer will be switched into a power saver mode. After a set period of time, the computer will automatically go into sleep mode. In the power saver (sleep mode), all the programs remain running. To reactivate the computer, touch the screen and all of the data will reappear. In the power saver mode, the yellow “Power Saver” light will be ON.

NOTE: Should the screen be turned OFF, the yellow indicator lamp will not be illuminated.

6. Power OFF Key This key will switch the power to the computer OFF. LDS3000 Controls.

LED Display

LED Display Lights.

1. Power ON This LED is green when the computer is switched ON, but not when in the power saver mode.

2. Sleep Mode Activated This LED turns yellow after 2 minutes of no activity. Touch the screen to reactivate 3. Power Saver Activated This LED turns yellow when the power saver key is pressed. To reactivate, press the power saver key again.

4. External DC Power This LED is green when an external DC supply is connected.

5. Battery Low This red LED flashes once per second when the battery power level is below 10%.

6. Hard Drive Activity The green LED flashes when there is activity on the hard drive.

Battery

New Battery Preparation

The computer is equipped with 3 A hr NiMh (Nickel-Metal Hydrid) rechargeable battery which is intended to be a second power supply. The main supply is normally an external power source.

Upon delivery of a new computer, or installing a new battery, it is advisable to use the following procedure to prolong the life expectancy of the battery.

The battery will be automatically recharged when the computer is connected to an external power source. The battery will remain charged so long as the external source is connected.

1. Remove all the cables from the computer. The computer should not be on the base station.

NOTE: If the computer is not connected to an external power source for more than three days, remove the battery. This will increase the life expectancy of the battery.

3. Connect the computer to an external power source, such as the base station. After at least three hours of charging, all five LED’s should be illuminated and the orange LED should be OFF.

4. Repeat these steps three times to ensure maximum battery capacity is achieved.

2. Switch the computer ON, and allow it to run until it turns OFF (due to a fully discharged battery).

External power can be supplied to the computer by the base station, the CAN (cable from the machine), or from a cigarette lighter socket using a special cable.

LDS3000 Batteries Experience shows that the NiMh batteries benefit from periodic cycling. This process refreshes the Gas Gauge (controller) chip and the cell’s terminal charge voltage. This is not the same as the “Memory Effect” as seen on Ni-Cad batteries which requires regular cycling to prevent irreversible degradation of the charge capacity. There are two main circumstances where cycling (conditioning) the battery pack may improve performance:

A cigarette lighter cable will enable the computer battery to be charged from a cigarette lighter socket. This cable is equipped with a fuse (8 A F).

Charging Mode When the computer is connected to an external power source, the orange indicator light on the battery will flash momentarily. During operation, it is normal for the battery to get slightly warm. If the battery overheats, the orange light will flash. The number of flashes depends on the charge state and the temperature of the battery. Once the battery temperature drops to normal, charging resumes.

1. The new battery has completely discharged during a period of storage (possibly within 2 months). This will undo the benefits of the cycling which takes place in the factory. The longer the batteries have been stored, the more cycling will be required to restore the full capacity. After 2 years of storage, it may never be possible to reach full capacity.

Charge Indicator Lights

2. If daily use of the LDS3000 does not charge and discharge the battery, i.e. external power is always applied to the LDS (almost an overcharge condition), the apparent capacity of the pack will be reduced to a lesser extent than described in Step 1.

The battery is equipped with six charge indicator lights. Five are green and the top one is orange.

Each one of the green indicator lights represents a 20% charge. When the computer is switched OFF, the green charge indicator lights will stay on for a short period of time. A constant orange light indicates the battery is charging. When the orange light goes out, charging is complete and the battery is fully charged.

To cycle a battery: 1. Charge the battery until all the green LED’s are ON and the orange LED has gone out (fully charged).

5. Another feature of rechargeable batteries is they maintain a constant O/P Voltage until the capacity is nearly depleted. When this happens, the cell Voltage drops sharply. When the Voltage falls below a predetermined value, the controller assumes the pack is empty. The controller can now reassess the time taken to deplete the pack and readjusts the capacity calculations. In turn, it also turns OFF all the green LED’s to show the battery pack as “empty”.

2. Remove the external power supply and run an application (e.g. DMM) so that the instrument card is powered. This will prevent Windows95 power management from suspending the LDS3000 and also draws the most current from the battery. The tester should be left switched ON until the batteries are fully discharged and the unit switches OFF. 3. If this process is repeated, the process time should be longer. Further cycling may be required in some cases. Once conditioned, the battery pack should perform to specification.

This dedicated conditioning should be done once a week. If the LDS remains ON for more than 30 minutes (see below power specifications), then the battery pack should be properly conditioned.

6. The more charge/discharge cycles the pack goes through, the more accurate the capacity indications become and the pack is deemed “conditioned”. In addition, as the pack becomes discharged, the controller will flash the last LED to indicate the cells are becoming “dangerously” empty. With new cells, full conditioning can be achieved within 2 or 3 cycles and maximum capacity can be delivered.

The battery discharge time will naturally reduce over time due to use and aging, but this is normal and not a sign of a faulty battery.

NOTE: If cycling the battery pack gives no improvement then the pack is probably faulty.

Detailed Battery Operation 1. When the LDS3000 is connected to the power supply (docking station or vehicle), the battery pack starts to charge. The orange LED flashes until the cell Voltage raises above the lowest Voltage point determined for the pack. When this occurs, the LED stays constantly lit and the battery goes into full charge mode.

7. If the batteries are stored, over time the internal cells naturally discharge. The situation then arises that the controller thinks the pack is “full” when it is in fact “empty”. If the batteries are then used, they indicate full charge but will only last a short time. This has the effect of confusing the controller. In addition, the chemical structure of the battery is “weakened” due to this self-discharge, so several charge/discharge cycles are required to get the system back to full capacity.

2. As the battery pack charges, the green LED’s give an indication of the charge state. (Until the pack is conditioned, these indicators should be ignored.) When all 5 indicators are lit and the battery is fully charge, the orange LED goes out.

3. A feature of rechargeable batteries is as full charge is attained, there is a sudden increase in pack temperature over a very short time period.

This is detected by a sensor which feeds back to the pack controller. When the controller detects the change, it lights up all the green LED’s and turns OFF the charge circuit. The controller has monitored the amount of current being drawn during the whole charge operation.

Once the temperature change is detected, it notes the amount of current and programs that has the capacity.

Flashing Orange LED 1. Battery cells low Voltage: When being charged, the LED will flash until the minimum acceptable Voltage is reached. The pack contains 6, 1.2 Volts nominal cells providing 7.2 Volts total. If the LED continues to flash after 20 minutes, this is a sign the pack has a shorted cell with the Voltage only achieving 6 Volts. Equally, though extremely rare, the LDS may not be able to provide the required charge Voltage giving the same effect. If this happens, try another battery pack.

4. As the battery pack discharges, the controller monitors the current drawn from the pack. The controller can display the anticipated remaining charge and count down the LED’s accordingly (each representing 20% of capacity).

2. Cells over temperature: If the LDS is not connected to an external power source and the orange LED starts to flash, it is an indication of the pack providing too much current causing the cells to overheat. This is more likely to be a fault of the LDS, but again, this is extremely rare.

Computer Interfaces

PC Interface

Measurement Card Interface

On the back of the computer are a series of IBM compatible connectors, as shown.

Measurement Card Interface.

There are three identical round connectors for the measurement card interface. These three connectors are used for the VIA adapter/cable and the two test probes (order of connection does not matter).

The red probe is used for measuring voltages and resistance. The black probe has a similar function to the red probe, except it is considered as the reference probe. Integrated within each probes is an OK key. When pressed the computer will move on, allowing continual operation without letting go of the probes.

Connector Ports.

(1) Parallel printer port. (2) External VGA monitor.

(3) RS-232 serial connector. (4) PS/2 mouse. (5) PS/2 keyboard. (6) RS-485 serial connector. (7) External DC port.

For additional information on the VIA Adapter/Cable, refer to the VIA Adapter/Cable section.

PCMCIA Modem Interface This is a standard PCMCIA modem interface unit, compatible with standard cards. The port can be used for data transfer or standard communication.

NOTE: The plugs and sockets on the cables/probes are marked for the correct rotational orientation. To release the plugs, first slide the outer collar back to release the locking mechanism.

Serial Diagnostic Interface (VCI Connector) The computer is equipped with a serial interface connector (large multi-pin rectangular connector).

The CAN cable (VCI cable) connects the computer to the terminal of the machine. When this cable is attached, the computer’s battery will be charged from the machine.

Portable Base Station

VIA Adapter

The base station houses the power supply, CD ROM, and a floppy disk drive. When the computer is mounted on the base station, it will be capable of operating from the VAC power supply, or a 12 VDC supply.

With the VIA adapter the computer can be connected to the important contacts on the machine, for direct measurements. When the cable is connected to the machine, the status lamp should flash about 10 times and then remain constant. During transfer of data from the computer and the VIA adapter/cable, the status lamp will flash.

A carrying case houses the base station, computer, and its accessories case. The accessories case can house the power cable, cigarette lighter cable, disks, CDs, mouse, and keyboard.

NOTE: The mouse and keyboard are included in the standard kit.

The VIA adapter has two connectors (A and B), although in the combine application, only one is used. The system will automatically recognize which connector is installed.

The base station is equipped to run on 12 VDC power using a cigarette lighter socket. The power cable has the same connector as the VCI cable and connects into the back of the base station.

The DC port is only for user self-test (UST).

The VIA adapter is equipped with a green status display. The power for this adapter comes through the 63-pin connector from the machine. A fuse in the central electric compartment of the machine protects the adapter.

With a power supply connected, the green power display lamp, between the drives, should be ON.

NOTE: The plugs and sockets are marked for the correct rotational orientation. To release the plugs, first slide the outer collar back to release the locking mechanism.

CD ROM To open the CD ROM, press the eject button and the tray should open. To close the CD ROM, press the eject button once more, and the tray will close.

If the computer is switched ON when not attached to the base station, the CD-ROM will not be acknowledged. Always insert the CD with the label facing up.

VIA Cable The 63-pin VIA cable is connected to the unit’s large multi-pin connector. This cable allows communication between the computer and the VIA adapter.

NOTE: The end connectors of the cable look similar, but are different and cannot be interchanged.

Disk Drive and Disks The disk drive is a peripheral device, allowing data to be written to or from floppy disks. The floppy disks consist or a magnetized plastic disk protected by a sliding cover. The disks must always be handled with care, never allow them in dusty, wet, or hot environments. Keep the disks away from all magnetic sources.

Power Connector This connector is only required for user self-test (UST).

VIA Adapter and Cable The VIA (Vehicle Interface Adapter) adapter and cable allows communication between the LDS3000 and the machine. The data and test signals are transmitted in a parallel format using the connecting cable.

Installation from Windows95™

8. The TouchManager screen will now appear.

1. Make sure the the LDS3000 is turned OFF and place it on the docking station.

2. Place the Windows Installation CD in the CD ROM and the Windows 95 Boot Disk in the disk drive.

3. Turn the computer ON. The installation will start automatically. The loading progress is shown by a bar graph.

4. Once the installation is complete, turn the computer OFF. 5. Remove the CD and the floppy disk from the drives.

6. Turn the computer ON and immediately adjust the screen brightness.

7. The screen must now be recalibrated. a. Touch the center of the cross once. Once touched, the cross will reappear at the top right of the screen.

9. Press the Check Mark icon and after a short time the Desk Top screen will appear.

b. Touch the center of the cross again. ( Also see on screen explanation)

Calibrate the touch screen by touching the center of the crosses as they appear. The calibration sequence will time-out if no touch is received within 30 seconds.

c. When prompted to repeat the screen calibration, touch the cross, as shown below.

10. The Windows 95 Installation is now complete.

11. The software should now be loaded.

NOTE: Any earlier version of the diagnostics software cannot be run under Windows 95. All earlier versions should be discarded.

Loading software from CD

7. One or more languages can be selected by clicking on the box next to the language. A check mark will appear to indicate the selected language will be loaded.

Periodically, new software upgrades will be shipped for installation into the LDS3000. Use this procedure to load the software.

9. The data will be loaded from the CD to the hard drive of the computer.

• Calibrate the Touch Screen using the instruction in this manual.

• Double click on SIMUL icon on the Windows 95 Desktop

• The computer should now be on the Desktop screen showing all the icons.

Install New Version of LDS3000 • Bring up the Windows 95 Desktop screen.

• Insert the CD (it should automatically start to install the program).

• Select the desired language.

• Press the “Next” icon and select any additional languages.

• Restart the computer. Follow the screen prompts.

• Press “Finish”.

• Remove the CD. The computer will automatically restart.

Screen Operation

System Menu Screen This screen has the change language and closing the system options.

Turning the Computer ON 1. When the computer is turned ON, the following screen will be displayed.

Change Language Screen The required language can be selected from the list, and then by tapping the Check Mark icon will activate the required language.

2. The following are descriptions of each of the icons and menus.

Select the relevant Program and start by touching the Check Mark icon.

Touching this icon will switch the screen from the Menu List to the System Menu.

Touching this icon will switch the screen from the Menu List to the Application Menu.

Touching this icon will switch the screen from the Menu List to the Diagnostic Manager.

Change Language Screen.

This icon will switch the screen from the menu list to the Digital multimeter.

Diagnostic Manager

Closing the System Screen Select the option to close the system, then a cross and a Check Mark icon will be displayed. Tapping the Check Mark icon will close the system down.

Selecting the diagnostic manager will start the diagnostic software, along with measurement readings.

By selecting this menu, the program will start.

Once a program has been started this icon will appear in the top menu list.

Selecting this icon will return the system to the diagnostic menu.

Printer Icon The printer icon will allow the contents of the Diagnostic Manager to be printed.

Two options for printing are Print the Screen or Print the Trace.

Digital-Multimeter (DMM) Screen

Save Icon This icon will allow the contents of the Diagnostic Manager to be saved.

Pressing this icon will start the digital multimeter and bring up the screen shown below.

To save data, enter a number, 156 for example, then press the Check Mark icon. The system will then display where it has saved the data.

When the Check Mark icon is pressed, the following screen will appear.

Display Saved Data Pressing this icon will display the saved data and allows it to be recalled.

Explanation of Icons From Digital Multimeter Screen

Pressing this icon selects the DC voltage option when taking voltage measurements.

The printer icon will allow the screen to be printed.

Pressing the Mode Functions icon activates a menu allowing the user to select an advanced function.

The DMM will measure the duty cycle of a waveform from the selected source and display the result.

The DMM will measure the frequency of a waveform from the selected source and display the result.

Duty Cycle.

Press the Check MArk icon to start printing.

Press the Cross to cancel printing

Pressing the Resistance icon allows resistance measurements to be taken from two predetermined points.

Pressing this icon will bring up the help screen DMM (Digital-Multimeter).

Pressing the DMM Sensor Selection icon selects and activates the sensor for the selected measurement.

Pressing this icon will exit the DMM and return to the Tab Manager.

Pressing the Diode Test icon selects the diode test function. The DMM will measure and display the forward voltage drop.

Diverse (Relative): For use with voltage and resistance measurement functions.

Pressing this icon will save the currently displayed value as an offset and zero this display. All subsequent measurements will have the saved offset value subtracted before display.

Pressing the Hold icon causes the DMM display to be frozen.

Pressing the Play icon causes the DMM to continue measurements and display updates following the use of the Hold icon.

Diverse (Absolute): For use with voltage and resistance measurement functions.

Pressing this icon cancels the operation of the Relative icon.

Pressing the Voltage icon allows voltage measurements to be taken between two selected points or probes.

Pressing this icon allows AC voltage measurements to be taken between two selected points or probes.

Screen Operation Within An Application

Additional Functions Pressing this icon displays a list and allows the selection of the DMM advanced functions.

Pressing the Sound On icon enables the function. The DMM will beep when taking sound a resistance measurement of less than one Ohm or when measuring less than 1200 mV in Diode Test mode.

Pressing the Sound Off icon disables the sound function.

Pressing the Normal icon cancels the operation of the Min and Max Function menu.

Pressing the Min icon forces the DMM to display the minimum measured value.

The display is only updated when a reading less than the displayed value is measured.

Main Screen.

Press the Star icon to display this screen.

Pressing the Max icon forces the DMM to display the maximum measured value.

The display is only updated when a reading greater than the displayed value is measured.

Select Screen.

The following three functions are available from this screen: Resume — Selecting this option will return the computer to the previous screen.

Exit Application — Selecting this option will return the computer to the main menu.

Fault Override — Selecting this option will activate the Fault Override screen.

Other Icons on the Screen Press the cross icon and the fault will be ignored and the program will continue.

Press the Check Mark or Enter icon and the diagnostics will continue along the fault found line.

Windows 95 Screen

Displays the contents of the disk in drive “A” (3.5“ Drive)

This chapter only relates to the most important areas of Windows 95. Should you wish further information, please refer to the Windows 95 documentation. Also check the help section.

Displays the contents of the disk in drive “B” (3.5“ Drive)

The following screen shows the layout of the working screen, known as the `Desktop”.

Displays the contents of the hard drive.

Displays the contents of the CD ROM drive.

Change the settings of the computer.

Provides printer information and set-up.

Network Desktop

Displays the network connection when the LDS3000 is attached to a network system.

By clicking this icon, both the available hardware and software will be indicated.

The following screen with icons will be displayed

Recycle Bin Data or files that have been deleted are placed in the recycle bin. Should a file be deleted by mistake, it can be retrieved by opening the bin (folder) by double clicking the icon. Periodically the bin should be emptied in order to maintain maximum hard drive space.

Desktop Screen.

TouchManager By pressing this icon, changes to the settings will not be stored.

Double clicking the Touch Manager icon starts the program.

Loader Double clicking on this icon will show the following screen.

Touch Manager Icons Using this icon allows the touch screen calibration and calibration values are returned to their original settings.

Loading System Data Screen.

This icon, will enable you to recalibrate or change the screen. When Windows 95 is first installed, the screen must be recalibrated.

The Loader icon loads the computers system data.

The system data is the data that is loaded when the computer reboots. This should only be done when new data has been loaded onto the computer, but still needs to be loaded into memory.

Calibrate the touch screen by touching the center of the crosses as they appear. The calibration sequence will time-out if no touch is received within 30 seconds.

Recalibration Screen.

To recalibrate the screen, refer to the Installation from Windows95™ sections (Step 7).

The Check Mark icon allows new settings to be stored and loaded.

Diagnostics

Shows a menu from the system settings, allowing changes.

Double click this icon and the Diagnostics program will be loaded. The main application menu will then be displayed.

Shows a list of the last documents opened.

Task List

Shows a list of the programs and where they can be started.

Additional Icons in Touch Manager In the list, three additional icons are displayed.

Clicking on this icon will open Touch Manager

Pressing this Icon will start the System Manager.

Click on the Start button to open the start menu.

In Windows 95 the LDS3000 can be turned OFF by pressing the RED Off button. When the exit icon is acknowledged, Windows 95 will ask how the computer should be shut down.

When this icon is clicked, the LDS3000 will go into standby mode. In this situation the yellow light will be on.

System Manager Screen.

This screen shows the system information on the LDS3000.

Starts a program or opens a file when a MS DOS command is given.

Starts the help the screen.

Helps to find a file or a document.

Pressing this icon will start the Card Manager program.

Windows Explorer Screen With An Open Folder.

Copying Data To Disk Drive Card Manager Screen.

Shows the status of the VCI and Measurement card. This is only for information.

Windows-Explorer Click on the Start key, then on Programs, then on Windows Explorer. The explorer will display the contents of the directories on each drive.

Screen For Copying Data.

The Windows Explorer is a program where the contents of all the drives are displayed in tree form.

To copy a file(s) use the following procedure.

1. Start Windows Explorer.

2. Find the file or program you wish to copy and click on it.

3. Click on “File” at the top of the screen and then “Send To”.

Starting Windows Explorer.

4. Select the destination to send the data to, (A drive, for example).

To copy more than one file use this procedure.

2. Double click on “Add Printer”.

1. Click on the first file being copied.

2. Hold the “Ctrl” key down and select additional files. To select all the files in a folder, go to “Edit” and then select all.

3. Click on “File” at the top of the screen and then “Send To”.

4. Select the destination to send the data to, (A drive, for example).

A second way of copying, is to click on the file, then “Drag and Drop” it to the A drive or any other drive or folder.

Printer Folder.

Printing Before printing from the LDS3000, the printer must be correctly installed, with all the appropriate drivers in the system files.

Selecting the Printer 1. Click on “Start”, then “Settings”, and then “Printer”.

Add Printer Screen.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen to add a printer. When the operation is complete, the icon of a printer should appear in the Printer Folder. Only then is the printer correctly installed.

Other Programs In “Programs, Accessories” Folder

Adding A New Printer.

In the “Programs, Accessories” group , the following programs are available: Calculator, Word Pad (word processing), and Paint (graphics).

Other programs can also be installed into the accessories group.

User Self Test Description The User Self Test (UST) is a guided diagnostic application used to diagnose faults specific to the LDS3000 system hardware.

Before running UST, the VIA, probes, and any other external devices or cables should be disconnected.

UST should only be run when the computer is docked with the Docking Station and when the battery is fully charged.

UST is started by selecting the User Self Test option from the Application menu.

When the UST is running, the full system test can be selected. This test guides the user through the complete system, locating any faults. If a particular area suspected, for example the instrumentation, then this area can be tested separately.

As UST tests the system, it will instruct the user to connect various items to the computer, many of these items will be the self test adapters. These adapters are for UST only, they should not be used for any other purpose and should only be connected and disconnected when instructed. All UST adapters must be removed at the end of the UST procedure.

Multimeter (DMM)

This program allows the computer to become a multimeter using the VIA. The red and black probes must be connected to the computer. Once the probes have been connected, then either voltage or resistance readings can be taken using the diagnostic socket.

1. To run this program, select the Multimeter Function then press the Check Mark icon.

2. Press this icon to select the DMM Measuring function.

3. Highlight the Sense (measuring) Channel and Reference Channel cables and press the Check Mark icon.

IMO /CEBIS Terminal Fault

4. Click on this icon.

Selecting the “IMO or CEBIS terminal screen fault” selection from the Application menu will bring up this screen.

5. Select the desired connection.

Special Program

6. Connection selection allows the LDS3000 to be connected through specific pins.

This section describes the special program for modifications, loading data, and configuration using only the CAN cable.

For example: LEXION:

1. Follow the cable setup instructions from the Cable Setup Screen and press the Check Mark icon when finished..

Channel = Select Pin 5 (Cutterbar raise) Reference channel = Select Pin 61 (Earth) Measurement = Ohm (Resistance) The resistance value of the solenoid valve for the cutterbar raise will be displayed.

Measurement l = Volt (DC) Start the engine and raise the cutterbar. The displayed voltage will be that supplied to the solenoid valve.

Replacing Hardware

4. Once an item is selected from the Selection Screen, additional information will appear on the screen, as shown.

Should the unit need to be replaced, do the following.

1. The service department will send a replacement directly to you.

2. Along with the replacement component, will be a letter which includes a call no. The defective component must be sent back to the factory.

The address is included with the replacement computer. Before shipping, make sure the defective component is packed in the original packaging, the call number is included, and a report outlining the problems.

3. A failure form should also be completed. This will be sent on request.

4. The computer will be sent complete with batteries.

5. The base station will be sent without its cover.

6. The defective components must be sent back immediately.

Service Troubleshooting

Maintenance

Should a fault develop on the LDS3000, the following is recommended:

Cleaning the LDS3000

1. First check this Tool Operating Manual.

2. Complete a user self test and record any fault messages that appear on the screen.

Before cleaning the LDS3000 ensure that all the cables have been disconnected, especially the power supply.

3. To determine if computer/component replacement is necessary, contact CSTG.

The LDS3000 can only be cleaned with light detergents.

NOTE: Dilute the cleaning agent with clean water.

The ratio should be about 1 part cleaner to 5 parts water. Dust and other contaminants should first be brushed off using a soft brush. Wiping the unit should only be done with a lint free cloth, and ensure that no cleaning fluid is poured directly on its surface.

Make sure that no cleaning agents come close to the sockets.

Cleaning the CD ROM Disks Make sure the CD is clean before it is used. It should always be stored in the case when not in use. The CD should also be kept away from direct sunlight or high temperature.

CD disks can be cleaned using a suitable cleaning agent and a soft clean cloth. The CD should always be wiped from the middle to the outside.

NOTICE A CD should never be cleaned with strong detergents. This can damage the CD, making it unusable.

Cables Cables and test probes should always be put in the storage case after each use. The cables can be easily damaged. Never try to extend the cables.
