side slew (lift and slew) 5

___________________________________________________Operation SIDE SLEW (LIFT AND SLEW)

purpose

The side slew device provides a means of moving the entire BTP horizontally in a lateral direction across the width of the entryway so that proper belt alignment can be maintained. The lift jack portion of the side slew device provides a means of vertically leveling the BTP in relation to the belt line while stabilizing the BTP frame within the entryway during normal mining operations. The side slew lift jacks can also raise the BTP completely off of the mine floor so that work can be performed on the BTP.

The side slew attachment brackets are constructed from welded structural grade steel with high strength bolt on cylinder retention blocks. The lift portion of the side slew device is operated by two independently functioning trunion mounted hydraulic cylinders which connect to horizontal slide blocks that are housed within the side shift skid plate. Two vertical steel slide plates are pinned to the slide blocks to absorb any side loads. The side shift skid plate is constructed from welded structural grade steel with a high wear steel bottom plate. The side-shift portion of the side slew device is operated by two clevis mounted cylinders that function, by one pushing and one pulling at all times. All pins are made from high-tensile steel rods.

Visually inspect all joints to ensure that pins are properly in place by one of the following: bolts, clip pins or roll pins. This depends on the design. Ensure that the hydraulic cylinder and hoses are not leaking or damaged and that the cylinder rods are not bent. Visually inspect the bolt on side-shift cylinder cover plates for worn or missing components. Keep debris away from the side-shift cylinders and hoses. Replace or repair any missing or damaged components as required. Manually grease all sliding connect points between the vertical slide plates and the mounting brackets and also between the slide block and the side shift skid plate.

IMPORTANT Certain designs may provide grease fittings within the head of each pin. These fittings should be greased monthly.

Operation____________________________________________________

operation

Visually check to make sure there are no obstructions or personnel within the operation range of the side slew device. The side slew device has two primary functions lifting and slewing. Before lifting the BTP, check the location of the stageloader with respect to the ceiling of the entryway to ensure that it has not come into contact with the roof. To lift the BTP use the side slew skid control functions. Providing that the controls are operational (see “Control Station” section), select one or more of the four directional control flipper or lever labeled “Inbye- Walkside”, “Inbye-Blockside”, “Outbye-Walkside”, or “Outbye- Blockside” under the section labeled “Side Slew Lift Jacks”. Then press the desired direction of operation, “UP” to raise the BTP (lowering the side shift skid) and “DOWN” to lower the BTP (raising the side shift skid). During operation take care not to jack the BTP and stageloader into the roof or similarly lower the BTP frame onto equipment or any obstruction which may damage the unit. Continue to operate the control valves until the desired BTP position is achieved. To side slew the BTP again make sure that the controls are operational (see “Control Station” section), select one or both of the two directional control flipper or lever labeled “Inbye” or “Outbye” under the section labeled “Side Slew”. Then press the desired direction of operation, “Blockside” to move the BTP toward the right side of the direction of belt travel and “Walkside” to move the BTP toward the left side of the direction of belt travel. During the lateral movement operation take care not to jack the side shift skids into the rib, equipment or personnel. Continue to operate the control valves until the desired BTP position is achieved. For detailed information on the proper operation procedure for side slewing the BTP see the “Side Slewing” section of this manual.

At the completion of the bootend move, raise the side slew jacks, and ensure the crawlers are on the ground. All leveling is to be done via the crawler lift jacks, and not the side slew jacks.

WARNING

WARNING

IMPORTANT Do not repair or remove slide blocks, side load slides, retaining pins, hoses, covers, or hydraulic cylinders while the side slew device is supporting the BTP or while they are in operation.

Do not operate the side slew device while moving the BTP and be sure to retract the side slew skid plate completely prior to moving BTP.

Stay clear of side shift skid plate during operation. Also watch for pinch points between the sliding members of this device.
