Secure the conveyor system before all work against unauthorized and unintentional restarting.

Before installing the pulling device, the working area must be secured against falling rock and against objects that could fall down.

Secure a wide area around the conveyor and plow. No personnel are permitted to be in the hazardous areas during the coupling (pulling together) of the plow chain.

Secure lifted conveyor pans against lowering unintentionally by supporting them.

Storage and transport This chapter contains important information about the correct storage and transport of the pulling device. Following the instructions and tips will increase the life cycle and service life of the pulling device.

Installation

Installation The pulling device serves to couple chain ends and to pull a plow chain into the lower plow chain guide. The pulling device runs in the bottom race of the conveyor and in the lower plow chain guide.

The pulling device is used between two flights of the conveyor chain. The conveyor chain pushes the pulling device and the plow chain is pulled via a fastening element (center part of pulling device with securing piece).

Caution!

The pulling device and other parts of the system could be seriously damaged or destroyed if the pulling device is run into the drive areas.

Make absolutely sure that the pulling device is not run into the drive areas.

How to install the pull-in sledge How to install the pull-in sledge Before using the pulling device checking

repair and maintenance

Before using the pulling device, a correspondingly trained person must check the condition of the pulling device and the pull-in conditions. Only when it has been determined that the pulling device and the system are in perfect working condition may you use the device.

Damaged components may only be repaired by Bucyrus!

Important!

If pulling devices are not serviced by Bucyrus service personnel, any liability on the part of Bucyrus is excluded.

Mounting the pull-in sledge in the bottom race The pull-in sledge can be installed on the head gate or on the tail gate in the bottom race of the adaptor pan.

Please proceed as follows:

. Empty the conveyor. . Secure the conveyor against unauthorized or inadvertent restarting.

. Actuate the support locking switch of all shields in your working area.

Warning!

Shields that are not locked can be actuated via a central control unit and begin moving without warning.

As a result, you or others can be seriously injured or even killed!

Actuate the support locking switch of all shields in your working area, before you being working!

. Secure the roof and the coal face against falling rock and collapsing.

Working height min. 300 mm

You will need a minimum working height of 300 mm for the installation of the pull-in sledge underneath the adaptor pan.

Remove the debris until you have attained the required working height.

If necessary, you can also raise the conveyor in the area of the adaptor pan.

Warning!

Never work under unsecured loads!

You could be seriously injured or even killed by falling components.

Place support such as blocks of wood or similar under all raised components before carrying out any further work.

. In the installation area, remove the 10 hex. nuts (Fig. 4, Pos. 14) in the guide sheet with washers (Pos. 16).

. Remove the guide sheet with the aid of the load rings (a).

How to install the pull-in sledge . Raise the pull-in sledge with a transport strap and thread the flight guides (b) into the face side bottom race guide of the conveyor between two flights of the chain assembly.

How to install the pull-in sledge . Lift the gobside pull-in sledge until the guide pieces “EF” of the pull-in sledge are positioned above the guide level “F” of the lower plow chain guide.

Important!

Hereby, make sure that the guide of the pull-in sledge on the face side remains completely in the bottom race guide of the conveyor.

. Move the pull-in sledge slowly in the direction of the center of

the longwall using the chain tensioner until the first guide piece of the pull-in sledge lies about 50 mm on top of the lower plow chain guide.

. Remove the transport strap and, if necessary, any other required equipment for lifting the pull-in sledge.

. Move the pull-in sledge slowly toward the center of the longwall

using the chain tensioner of the conveyor until the second guide piece of the pull-in sledge is securely rerailed in the guide sheet.

. Install the dismantled guide sheet of the plow end guide.

The pull-in sledge is now installed and can be moved to the break in the chain.

For information on how to attach the plow chain, please refer to Chapter 5 “Operation”.

Warning!

By moving the conveyor or the plow, you could be injured or killed. Secure the working area.

Repairing a broken plow chain The following figure shows a schematic overview for installing the pulling device when there is a break in the chain on the tail gate side.

Since the plow chain is pretensioned when it is closed, it is too short when it is uncoupled.

An adjusting chain must therefore be installed at the break location for coupling the ends of the plow chain (e.g. after a chain break).

How to operate the pulling device Proceed as follows to repair the torn plow chain:

. Switch the conveyor system off and secure it against restarting. . In the working area, actuate the support lock-out switches.

Warning!

You could be seriously injured or even killed if the conveyor is advanced while you are working on it. Cordon off a large area around the place where you are working and actuate the support lock-out switch.

Before you can repair a broken plow chain, you must find the loose ends of the chain. finding ends of chain

. Go to the place where you suspect the loose chain end is to be found.

. Remove the protective caps of the lower inspection hole on the flap valves.

. Stick the protective caps back into the inspection holes.

Repeat these steps until you have found both chain ends. Please proceed afterwards as follows: 1 1

. Mark the covers which will need to be dismantled. . Measure the distance between the broken ends of the chain. . Mount the pull-in sledge (see Chapter 4, Section “Mounting pull-in sledge in the bottom race”).

. Mark a flight in the upper race of the conveyor approx. 2 - 3 m to the right of the right-hand plow chain end.

. Dismantle the flap valve. . Switch the conveyor back on.

Danger!

You or others could be seriously injured or even killed if the conveyor is switched back on while making repairs.

Before switching on the conveyor, ensure that there are no persons the hazardous area.

. Move the conveyor chain to the break location of the plow

chain with the pull-in sledge using the conveyor drive unit (slow speed) until the mark on the conveyor chain in the upper race is about 2 - 3 m in front of the drive unit.

How to operate the pulling device . Move the pull-in sledge into the last area only with the aid of the chain tensioner of the conveyor.

Caution!

The pull-in sledge and other parts of the system will be seriously damaged or destroyed if it is run into the plow. Take into account the fact that the conveyor chain runs afterward.

Never run the pull-in sledge into the plow!

. Move the pull-in sledge (1) behind the open flap valve until the center part (2) can be installed.

. Switch the conveyor off and secure it against restarting. . Afterwards, push the center part (2) into the pull-in sledge (1).

How to operate the pulling device . Place the hex. head screw (4) in the center part. . Slide the securing piece onto the hex. head screw so that the bolt (a) engages in the plow chain link while doing so.

. Firmly tighten the hex. nuts (5) with the required tightening torque (see Chapter 6 “Tightening torques”).

. Mark a fixed point on the upper race of the conveyor. Mark

a second point on the conveyor chain in the direction of the center of the longwall with the measured distance between the loose chain ends.

. Install the opened flap valves. . Switch on the drive unit of the conveyor (slow speed).

How to operate the pulling device Danger!

You or others could be seriously injured or even killed if the conveyor is switched back on while making repairs.

Make sure that no personnel are standing in the hazardous area of the conveyor when you switch on the conveyor and cordon off a wide area around the place where you are working!

. Move the pulling device to the other end of the plow chain with the conveyor (slow speed). This is the case when the marking on the conveyor chain agrees with the marking on the profile.

Move the last bit only with the motor of the chain tensioner.

. Switch the conveyor off again and secure it against restarting. . Dismantle a flap valve on both the left and right. . Install a locking device in each of the open inspection doors.

Warning!

The pulling device and the ends of the plow chain can start moving if the plow starts moving unexpectedly. You could become seriously injured from this. Secure each end of the plow chain with a locking device before you work on them.

. Dismantle the securing piece and the center part of the pulling device.

. Mount an adjusting chain into the plow chain. joining ends of chain

. Join the ends of the plow chain. To do this, only use permissible chain connectors.

Danger!

When pulling the ends of the plow chain together with an additional pulling device, use the specified chain connectors to connect to the ends of the chain and pull them instead of C-links.

. Dismantle the locking devices. . Install the flap valves. . Mark the conveyor chain. . Switch on the drive unit of the conveyor (slow speed).

Danger!

You or others could be seriously injured or even killed if the conveyor is switched back on while making repairs.

Make sure that no personnel are standing in the hazardous area of the conveyor when you switch on the conveyor and cordon off a wide area around the place where you are working!

. Move the pull-in sledge slowly back to the drive unit. Move the last piece only with the chain tensioner.

The pulling device and other parts of the system could be seriously damaged or destroyed when the pulling device is run into the drive areas (chain wheel).

Make absolutely sure that the pulling device is not run into the drive areas.

. Switch the conveyor system off and secure it against restarting. . Dismantle the plow chain guide sheet. See Chap. 4, Fig. 4. . Dismantle the pull-in sledge. . Install the plow chain guide sheet. . Tension the plow chain (see also the operating instructions for the conveyor).

. Store all parts of the pulling device in a dry, protected place.

When exchanging a plow chain, you can pull this in with the pulling device if the drive unit of the conveyor can be used.

When pulling in the plow chain into the lower chain guide, the plow is at the adaptor pan of the head gate or tail gate. Feed in the plow chain at the drive, where the plow is not standing.

Warning!

Movements of the conveyor or the plow could injure or even kill you. Make sure that the conveyor and plow system are switched off and secured against being switched on again.

Secure your working area.

. Install the pull-in sledge, as described in Chapter 4, in the area of the drive where the plow is not located.

. Fasten the plow chain to the pull-in sledge as described above. . Install the lower plow guide. . Mark the conveyor chain as described in the chapter “Repairing a broken plow chain”. Move the pulling device (at low speed) to the plow with plow chain installed.

Make absolutely sure that the pulling device is not run into the pulling sledge of the plow.

. Secure the plow chain against slipping in an open inspection door with a locking device.

How to maintain the pulling device chain on pulling sledge

. Join the end of the plow chain with the pulling sledge of the plow. To do this, only use permissible chain connectors.

. Dismantle the entire pulling device after you have moved the pull-in sledge back.

. Store all parts of the pulling device in a dry, protected place. . Mount the plow chain guide back onto the adaptor pan or the adjacent pan.

How to maintain the pulling device The pulling device does not require any special maintenance. You must check it for damage and signs of wear after every use, however.

Report any damage and wear to Bucyrus service personnel.
