About this manual This chapter contains important information that makes it easier for you to use this manual. You also get information about the struc­ ture of the instructions and the used symbols, characters, abbrevi­ ations and frequently used terms.

This operating manual belongs to the program version

CST gearbox control system PMC®-D/V and describes the visualization program VDrive in the Version 10.76 The designation PMC® is legally protected and property of Bucyrus Europe GmbH, Lünen. For the purpose of improved legibility, the registered trademark symbol ® will henceforth not be used in this manual.

If these manual is used for other program versions, then it could happen that existing program functions are not described or that described parts are not present. As a general rule: the greater the difference between the version numbers of the program and of the manual used, the greater the differences will be.

The PMC system and all system components are in compliance with the European Directive 94/9/EC. The device falls under Group I, Category M2.

Before starting work This operating manual is directed at all persons who handle or who come into contact with the PMC system during the course its life cycle, beginning with transport and continuing to final retirement and disposal.

This includes persons who: J install and uninstall the program.

J use the program on a PC, J perform troubleshooting and maintenance work.

This operating manual is intended to facilitate safe and efficient handling with VDrive. The responsible operating, setup and main­ tenance personnel must read, understand and comply with this op­ erating manual. It is only with the knowledge contained in this op­ erating manual that you can avoid errors, damage and injuries and ensure trouble-free operation. completeness

The operating manual is to be stored within reach of the PMC sys­ tem and to be kept readily accessible for operating and mainten­ ance personnel. It must be passed along to all owners or users of the PMC system. Every supplement received must be inserted into the operating manual.

Terms Terms Variables are differentiated according to their characteristics (gen­ eration of the assigned contents).

Parameters As a user, you can influence the size of parameters. You can set and modify the contents of parameters.

Example: pressure increase rate [bar/s], SEMI slip [%], oil level (reference) [cm] Status parameter A status parameter contains measured values of sensors and, if necessary, information concerning the quality of the measured value or the status of the sensor.

Status messages These are control system messages regarding statuses of the control or of individually controlled components (in text form and/or as colored fields).

PreFil ...).

J operating mode (mode): AUTO, SEMI, INSP, STOP. J communication: colored field black, yellow, green, red.

Users who are newcomers receive here information regarding the handling of the computer mouse, keyboard, buttons and printers. In addition, they are given tips for handling windows and tables. If you are familiar with handling programs under Microsoft Windows®, then please read the section titled “Special buttons” and skip the rest of this chapter. Afterwards, read Chapter 2 “Your safety”.

You can use the keyboard and the computer mouse (henceforth simply referred to as the “mouse”) to work with the program. The keyboard can be used to call up menu commands and to change values in input fields. The mouse can be used to call up menu com­ mands, to place the cursor in input fields and to activate buttons.

Tool tips VDrive can display Tool tips for many fields. They appear when the mouse pointer is moved to a field with Tool tip support. Depending on the context, you will see supplementary information regarding the respective field or the current cursor position.

Printer dialogs and windows technique You can output the contents of the VDrive program window and of a few other windows on a printer. To accomplish this, you should first establish a few default settings. printer configuration

You can establish a few settings using the menu “File” - “Printer setup...” (Fig. 2).

J In the list field “Name” (1), click on the arrow on the right-hand

edge and select a printer from the list.

J Under “Paper” “Size” (2), select the paper format on which you

would like to print.

J “Source” (3) indicates the paper compartment of the printer

from which it is to obtain the paper for the printout.

J Clicking on the button “Properties” causes an additional dialog

to appear for specifying color adjustments, printing resolution and other settings. This dialog depends on the printer you are using.

lation to the direction of the printing. “Landscape” (6) is fre­ quently more useful with screenshots than "Portrait” (5).

The “Help” button (7) calls up this document.

The “Network” button (8) can be used to find another printer in your computer network.

Save your settings with “OK” (9).

Pressing “Cancel” causes you to exit the dialog without making any changes.

You can establish a few settings using the menu “File” - “Print main screen...” (Fig. 3).

J The printer for the printout can be selected in a list field (1).

J “Properties” (4) can be used to overwrite the default printer set­

tings for this printout.

J Under “Printing range”, you can select a number of pages to be printed out with either “All” (for the entire document) or with “Pages” (3) “from ... to” (8).

J The “Help” button (7) calls up this document.

J The printing sequence is started by pressing “OK” (9).

J Pressing “Cancel” causes you to exit the dialog without making

any changes.

Using windows A typical detail window is shown in Fig. 4. The title bar contains the title of the window (1), the System menu (16) and buttons on the right-hand edge (3 - 6).

Click on the left-hand button (3) to minimize the window.

Clicking on the “Maximize” button (4) causes the window to fill the entire amount of available space on the screen. The symbol in the button changes (from (4) to (5)).

To restore the original size, click on the button marked “Restore” (5) in the maximized window.

A click on the “Close” (6) button closes the window and may end an application. If you have modified data in the window before closing, a security query will appear as a rule to ask whether the changes are to be saved.

It is not possible to change the size of some windows. The only button to be found in the title bar of such windows is the “Close” button (6).

If you move the mouse pointer to the edge of the window, the mouse pointer turns into a double arrow.

. Move the mouse pointer in one of the arrow directions (9, 11, 15) with the left-hand mouse button pressed down.

. Release the mouse button once the size of the window is the one you need.

If the window is too small for the contents to be displayed, then im­ age scrolling bars with scrolling arrows (7, 10, 12, 15) and image scrolling sliders (8, 14) will appear next to the content. The length of the sliders corresponds to the percentage share of the visible content to the contents as a whole.

. Click on a scrolling arrow (7, 10, 12, 15).

The contents of the window will be shifted one line at a time in the direction of the arrow.

. Click on an image scrolling slider, hold the mouse button

pressed down and move the slide in any random direction.

The width of the columns in tables can frequently be modified.

The image of the mouse pointer changes into a double arrow with a vertical line (2).

. Hold the left-hand mouse button pressed down at this position and move the mouse to the left or right.

The column which is marked will change in width.

Double-clicking a column header causes the width of the column to match the width of the contents of the column.

If the window is inconveniently placed on the monitor screen, it can be shifted to a different position. There are two procedures for ac­ complishing this:

. Click on the title bar of the window, hold the mouse button

pressed down and move the window into the desired position.

or

. Click on the button for the System menu (Fig. 5, (2)) and then on “shift” in the System menu (1).

or

. Click with the right-hand mouse button on the title bar and then on “shift” in the System menu.

The mouse pointer will be placed automatically in the title bar and changes into double arrows intersecting at right angles (3). The edge of the window is now surrounded by colored cross-hatching (the cross-hatching is only slightly visible above the intersecting double arrow (3)).

The same functions which can be accessed with buttons on the right-hand side of the title bar can also be accessed through the System menu (1) (see Fig. 4 (3 - 6)).

Your safety General safety information All of the safety informationcontained in this chapter applies to all of the machinery. Safety instructions and requirements which apply specifically to individual machine parts, functional sequences or activities will be found in the respective chapters.

The PMC system reflects state-of-the-art technology. It was manu­ factured in accordance with generally recognized safety standards and regulations.

Nevertheless, for example, hazards can arise as the result of en­ vironmental influences or operator errors. This is particularly the case in situations where utilization, operation and maintenance are not performed as intended or where unauthorized interventions have been made in the PMC system.

Intended use Intended use is: J visualization of drive unit statuses.

J remote parameterization of gearboxes.

PMC system components may not be used for other control tasks except in consultation with the manufacturer!

IMPORTANT! Applications not explicitly listed as intended uses are not permitted with the PMC system and are therefore regarded as unauthorized uses.

Bucyrus does not accept any liability for damage resulting from any such unauthorized use.

Prerequisites for operation The commissioning of the PMC system is not permitted until it has been established that the machine which is controlled by the sys­ temis in compliance with the European Directive 94/9/EC*.

The “VDrive” program is part of the PMC system. The operator must fulfill the stipulated safety requirements for any units on hand which are not included in the scope of delivery for this system and for any others which are necessary for its operation. * DIN EN 1710 also applies in Germany

Basic hazards The operation of a unit of Group I Category M2 is only allowed when the safety requirements according to DIN EN 1552 are met.

These include, for example: J systems preventing unauthorized starting, J startup warning systems, J safe lockout command systems, J EMERGENCY STOP systems

WARNING! Unauthorized modifications to VDrive.

Possible consequences - very serious injury or death Never make any changes to the program code or to the configuration files!

Unauthorized changes lead to loss of warranty and to the end of CE conformity.

WARNING! Safety-relevant deficiencies/malfunction of VDrive Possible consequences - very serious injury or death The machine must be locked-out at once in the event of safety-relevant deficiencies or malfunctions on the part of VDrive! Report fault to the respective official! Do not operate the machine again until the cause of the deficiency has been eliminated.

. Actuate immediately the EMERGENCY STOP switch in the

event of malfunctions, failure of safety equipment (e.g. firedamp protection) or irregularities in operation. Notify your supervisor of any peculiarity, so that necessary action will be taken immediately.

CAUTION! Incorrect or unsuitable spare parts Possible consequences - damage to machinery Use exclusively Bucyrus spare parts, because these correspond precisely to the technical requirements.

The utilization of deficient spare parts could lead to the loss of the right to warranty claims.

Operation General The visualization program for the depiction of a PMC system with CST gearbox can be conveniently operated with keyboard and mouse, like conventional Windows applications, e.g. MS Word.

This program visualizes simultaneously the statuses of several drive units. As a result, you have a continuous overview of various parameters of the drive units.

You can however also modify default parameters (CST parameters) and thus intervene in the control system of the drive units.

The computer underground (4) is linked directly* with the PMC-D system onsite (5) and receives the desired data from there. It logs this data, evaluates it and visualizes the desired parameters and statuses of the PMC-D system.

The PC aboveground (3) can set up a communication link with the computer underground and receive data from there. The operators at the two locations have the same opportunities for utilizing VDrive. This PC can function as a server for PCs on the Intranet and on the Internet.

PCs at “external” sites (1, 2) can set up a link with the PC above­ ground as clients via an Intranet or the Internet. The operators at these “externalq” sites cannot however exercise any influence on the PMC-D system. They can only observe the visualization. * or via a PMC-P node

Title bar The title bar (Fig. 7, (1)) contains the name of the program and the designation of the face, in addition to the usual buttons for enlar­ ging and reducing the size of the program window. Depending on the program status, the title bar may contain additional information.

Menu bar The menu bar is located under the title bar (Fig.7, (2)). You can open the menus with left-click on an entry in the menu bar or with the keyboard via <Alt> + <underlined letters of the alphabet>. All program functions can be accessed via the menu bar.

Structure of the user interface Data area Under the menu bar, VDrive displays the sensor data, calculation results and messages which are received from the PMC-D/V (4-12).

The data is displayed in fields with changing colors, supported by text and numbers (4-11), as well as in dynamic diagrams (12).

Current VDrive messages A line for current messages from VDrive is located on the lower edge of the window (13). The date and the time are followed by in­ formation, warnings or error messages. The line has a colored background for a few seconds when system messages are re­ ceived. Information is shown against a green background, warnings and errors against a red one.

You can open a window which contains a list of the VDrive mes­ sages with a double-click on this message line. Only the keyboard can be used for scrolling in this window (arrow keys up/down).

If the operating mode “STOP” is selected, the motors switch off, but remain enabled.

“AUTO” (Automatic) is the standard operating mode. Smooth start up of the conveyor and load sharing between the drive units char­ acterize this operating mode.

In the semiautomatic “SEMI” operating mode, the drive units func­ tion independently of one another. No communication takes place between the PMC-D units. The motor currents are not evaluated (no load sharing possible). You can start the motors manually.

The operating mode “Inspection” can only be selected or deselec­ ted at the PMC-V. In the case of “INSP”, all drive units switch over to idle speed (no pressure on the clutches of the CST gearbox).

You can now modify the setpoint for the pressure in the CST gear­ box at the PMC-V. VDrive displays the current operating mode in the field Mode (see Fig. 15 on page 5.16).

In the event of an error, the control shuts down the system imme­ diately and then announces the reason for the shutdown as an er­ ror message.

VDrive lists all of the errors of the CST system which are displayed in the PMC-V. The button “Reset CST errors...” (5) can be used to acknowledge the errors and to delete the display of the messages. You can also acknowledge the messages at the PMC-V. This is also cause the list to be emptied.

Motor enable In the Motor enable field, the display shows for each drive unit whether the PMC-D is permitting the motor to start.

Oil level reference value The reference values of the oil levels defined in the CST paramet­ ers for every drive unit are listed in cm under “Oil level reference value”.

You can modify the reference values in the CST parameters (Fig. 12 (1) on page 5.11). In the event of deviations from the ref­ erence value, the system generates warnings or error messages.

A Tool tip under the field explains the error. In this example, the lower limit of the oil level is reached.

Measured values in the diagram (trend display) In the right-hand side of the program window, you can see various diagrams of status parameters. An example of this is displayed in Fig. 19.

The asterisk (*) means that the PMC-D is currently controlling in accordance with this status parameter (“Motor current” or “Effective power”). At the left in the diagram field, VDrive displays the current measured values of the monitored components (2). In this example, you see the current measured values of head gate 1 (HA1) and tail gate 1 (HI1). Head gate 2 (HA2) is not active.

Before changing the reference values, measure the oil levels at the CST gearboxes. Take into account while doing so the inclination of the gearbox (see signs in reference to oil levels at the gearbox). Oil levels which are either too low or too high could damage the gear­ box.

You can decide for yourself which minimum and maximum values you would like to have displayed. In the “Options” window (see Fig. 22, page 5.22), you can set how you want the measured val­ ues to be scaled in terms of height. A doubling of the maximum value reduces the depiction of a measured value to half its previous height.

Selecting the diagrams You can select various measured values for the diagram presenta­ tion.

Right-click on a diagram calls up a list with displayable parameters.

In the “Log data selection” window (Fig. 32), you can select log data from up to ten status parameters. If the height of the diagram window (Fig. 33) is not sufficient to display the selected data in dia­ grams, a “sliding bar” will appear on the right-hand edge of the win­ dow. This makes it possible to shift the contents of the window ver­ tically.

The window for selection of the status parameters also appears with a right-click in the “Log data trend” window Each diagram (10) is provided above with a name (status paramet­ ers) and the unit of the value (9). Vertical trend lines (11) divide up the diagram area into time units. The positions of the trend lines depend on the time specifications under the time axis (13). The values axis is subdivided into useful value ranges (12) in accord­ ance with the maximum values.

Open file The standard “Open file” dialog has already been described (see page 5.32).

Enlarge visible time period zoom out

You can use this button (3) to enlarge the visible time period by a factor of 2 (double it). You will not need to use this button until after you have previously (and repeatedly) reduced the visible time period in size.

This offers you the option of zooming into a time period. The visible time period is reduced by half with each click on this button (4).

Exporting log data You have the option of using the Table symbol (7) for exporting the selected data to Microsoft Excel®.

The designation of the export function is visible under the title bar (Fig.34, (1)). XXXXX stands for the name of the face as was defined in the configuration. This is followed by the version number of the PMC-D/V control. data group

In the left-hand selection list (2), select the data group, the data of which is to be displayed in the right-hand selection list (3). Select the desired data by clicking to place a checkmark on a check box.

If a checkmark is placed in the check box of a group, then all of the elements of the group are selected. If not all of the elements in a group are selected, then the check box of the group which contains them will appear gray. Groups with a plus sign in front of the check box contain subgroups. They appear when the plus sign is clicked on.

Whereas VDrive outputs sensor values as values with measured value status according to the log time (Fig. 35), events appear with sender, recipient and importance, sorted according to their se­ quence for system status values (Fig. 36).

You use “Interval selection” to determine the density of the log data (time interval of the measured data). This has no effect with system status values.

A click on “Export” causes VDrive to generate an Excel table. The progress of the conversion can be observed in the progress bar (6).

An error message will appearif you have selected too much data for the export. You can now reduce the quantity of data by means of the following measures: J reduce the time period of the log data (Fig. 34 (4)), J increase the interval (Fig. 34 (5)), J reduce the quantity of values (Fig. 34 (2, 3)).

Client communication The window called up at Ö “Service” - “Client communication” re­ sembles the window in Fig. 10, page 5.8. VDrive displays one column each with more detailed connection data and statistics for communications with PMC-D and the next central control or next computer connected on the Intranet/Internet, respectively.

Data tables A window appears at Ö “Service” - “Data tables” with the data packages contained in the connected periphery. In the default set­ tings, the window contains columns with “Name”, “Age”, “OKs”, “Data size” and “Raw data”.

The button “Debugger for ignored data” (Fig. 38) opens an addi­ tional window with data from sensors which were ignored by the control (no illustration for this). The list can be deleted with the but­ ton “Delete history of the messages on ignored data”.

Setup info A window with setup information for VDrive (Fig. 40 (1)) can be ob­ tained through Ö “Service” - “Setup-Info”.

The version of the PMC control (2) comes after the listing of the VDrive program version. XXXXX stands for the name of the face as was defined in the configuration. This is followed by the version number of the PMC-D/V control.

The number of the face (3) can be found in the third line.

This is followed by a block with path information for the VDrive system files and for the log files (4).

A list with Setup error messages (5) is shown below this block.

The last error message displays VDrive in a separate line (6).

The setup error messages can be acknowledged and removed with the “Delete error messages” button.

Playback (replay log files) Playback (replay log files) VDrive offers you the opportunity of playing back saved log files so that you can observe later the behavior of the system at a particular point in time. These log files contain the log data which was mon­ itored by the system (see in this connection as well page 5.9 ff).

VDrive depicts the logged status parameters as though the system were running. You see all of the parameters, status parameters and error and status messages which were recorded. This permits you to analyze the behavior of the system after the fact.

You will require an additional installation of VDrive for this purpose.

The Service personnel can set up a VDrive with Playback function for you upon request.

After the start of VDrive with Playback function, an additional win­ dow appears with control elements for playing back log files (Fig. 41).

A click on the button “Open file” causes the dialog “Open” to appear with the preconfigured file folder and the list of the log files. Here the desired log file for playback can be selected and opened.

Recorded Time

“Recorded Time” (Fig. 42, (14)) can be consulted to monitor the progress of the log file upload. After the file has been uploaded completely, VDrive will display here the entire logged time period.

The previously hidden control elements and displays are now ac­ tivated.

A Tool tip (9) will appear when you move the mouse pointer into the time bar. It displays the log time at the position of the mouse pointer and the type of data traffic between the control (PMC-D/V) and VDrive.

A double-click on the tool bar causes the point of time displayed in the Tool tip to become the current playback time. VDrive displays the selected point in time in the “Current Time” field. Hours, minutes and seconds, separated by a colon, are followed by hundredths of seconds.

The “Replay/Pause” button (6) indicates that VDrive is ready for playback “>”. A click on “>” starts the playback at the selected point in time. The symbol on the button changes to “||” for Pause. Click­ ing on “||” causes the playback to stop at the momentary position in time.

You can jump to the next received/transmitted telegram with the button “>||”. This is, as a rule, less than one second.

The buttons (4) “>|+1” and (5) “>|+10” (Jumping one/ten second(s)) can be used to have the playback jump forward by one or ten seconds, respectively.

The speed of the playback can be determined with the scroll bar (7). Both slow-motion (0.1x speed) and fast motion (100x speed) are possible. VDrive displays the selected speed at the right next to the scroll bar (8).

A click on the title bar causes the selected time to be applied in the Timestamp entry field (11). A click on the “Set” button (12) causes VDrive to save this point in time as the jump destination. Each sub­ sequent click on “Set” causes VDrive to wind to the defined point in time. You can now restart the playback from this point in time with “Replay/Pause” (6).
