1 - GENERAL INFORMATION Dear Customer, Thank you for choosing our product! We are pleased to give you this manual, which we hope will help you get the most out of our product and enhance your work.

Inside this manual the user will find all the information required to use the asphalt float correctly. The trade name of the asphalt float is stated on the front cover of this manual. You are advised to follow all the instructions contained in this handbook exactly and to store it carefully in an appropriate, accessible place. The manual must be kept for future reference until the asphalt float is scrapped. If the asphalt float is sold, the vendor is required to pass on the manual to the new owner.

The information in the manual is arranged into topic-based chapters.

1 - GENERAL INFORMATION

DESCRIPTION The asphalt float, hereinafter referred to as the equipment, is an equipment suitable for floating asphalt for road, roadside, bicycle road surfacing.

The equipment is designed without a tank for the material to be laid down. Therefore, the material is placed directly on the ground in front of the float.

The width of the paving is adjusted with the hydraulic movement of the side boards.

Using the conveying side boards it is possible to perform “conveying boards” filling.

Þ DANGER This term is used in safety messages in the manual and on the plates when there is a significant chance of severe injury if the danger is not avoided.

Þ DANGER Always heed the warnings on the plates and transfers/stickers. Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury. Make sure the plates and transfers/stickers are always in place and legible. If this is not the case, affix or replace them, obtaining the materials required from the manufacturer.

2 - SAFETY INFORMATION

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE •

The operator is directly accountable for the equipment’s safe operation.

•

Read this manual carefully before proceeding with installation, start-up, use or any servicing of the equipment.

•

The aim of this handbook is to familiarise the operator, through the figures and explanations, with the basic rules and criteria to follow during equipment use and maintenance.

The following procedures are essential to warranty safe operation: •

Check that the equipment has not suffered any damage during transportation and if it has, advise the manufacturer or area agent straight away.

•

Make sure the equipment is only used by authorised adults with appropriate training.

•

Make sure the prime mover due to be used has all the dead-man’s controls fitted and that they are in perfect working order.

•

Ensure all non-members of staff are kept clear of the equipment when it is in use (safety distance of at least 10 metres). Cordon off the work area. This operation is to be done by the operator.

•

Stop working if anyone or any animals should enter the work area.

•

Clean the equipment regularly, removing all foreign matter which could impair operation or cause injury to the operator.

•

Before using the equipment, make sure all the safety devices are correctly in place and in good condition; if any broken devices are found, replace them immediately.

•

Make sure all the hoses and fittings are properly attached.

•

Do not carry out any maintenance work until you have read the instruction manual, and always remove the ignition key from the prime mover before starting.

•

Any repairs needed must be carried out solely by authorised personnel using original spare parts. If this rule is not applied, the user could be exposed to serious risks.

•

All inspections of the hoses and fittings must be carried out using suitable personal protection equipment (goggles, gloves and clothing to protect against contact with the skin).

•

Do not leave the equipment installed on the prime mover when the prime mover is unattended in the work area.

•

Do not wear anything which might get caught in the moving parts, such as unsuitable clothing, shoes, shirts etc. You are recommended to wear garments approved for accidentprevent purposes, e.g. helmets, non-slip shoes, headphones, and safety goggles and gloves. Check with your employer as to the safety regulations in force and the accidentprevention devices required.

•

Do not wear rings, bracelets, necklaces, watches, or scarves.

•

If you have long hair, keep it tied back.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS With working temperatures below -10 °C, let the prime mover idle before beginning work, and wait until the hydraulic circuit reaches and exceeds 40 °C. The use environments must comply with the regulations in force concerning hygiene and safety in the workplace.

Þ DANGER •

No naked flames and suchlike near the equipment.

•

Do not use the equipment in areas where there is a risk of explosion or fire. This equipment is not built to be use in the explosion environment (ATEX).

PERMITTED USES The equipment is designed to be mounted on a prime mover in order to carry out surfacing and laying asphalt on ground.

Use of the equipment is only permitted if mounted on a prime mover carrying a declaration of conformity with directive 98/37/EC and/or 2006/42/EC and the legislation in force, and if it meets the technical requirements of the equipment to be mounted.

Any other use than that expressly provided for herein should be considered mishandling and therefore not permitted.

When working in tunnel or during night time or with low visibility due environmental conditions, the working are has to be illuminated (min 200 lux) either by the prime mover or by working area fir o mobile lights.

Þ DANGER •

Any use of the equipment which does not comply with the uses specified in this installation, use and maintenance manual is strictly prohibited.

•

Do not stand, move or work on floors or any non-bearing structures.

RESIDUAL RISKS When the equipment is in use, the following risks may arise: - Electric shocks from contact with underground power lines.

- Fire and explosions through contact with underground gas lines.

- Explosion of explosive devices buried in the area as a result of wars/conflicts that may have occurred in the past.

Anyone standing in the vicinity of the equipment may be exposed to the following risks: - Risks originating from blows, catching or shearing, as result of accidental contact with the asphalt float side boards.

- Risk of crushing between the equipment and the prime mover.

- Risk of rubble (stones, blunt objects, etc.) being thrown out.

- Risk of falling spoil (when working on uneven ground or on surfaces at different heights).

DANGER AREAS - “DANGER AREAS” are any areas within and/or near a machine in which the presence of a person exposes this person to high risks in terms of both safety and health.

EMERGENCY STOPS To stop the equipment in an emergency, the operator can use the following controls on the prime mover: - Press emergency stop button (when this control is featured).

- Get up from driver’s seat (when the dead-man’s switch is featured).

- Lift up the operator’s armrest (when the dead-man’s switch is featured).

- Switch off the diesel engine with the ignition/OFF key.

4 - OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS OPERATING PROCEDURE 1 - Bring the equipment onto the working area and lock it with the prime mover brakes.

2 - Place the equipment on the ground.

Þ DANGER Move the prime mover with the equipment raised just a few centimetres off the ground.

IMPORTANT When positioning the equipment on the operating line, try as much as possible to keep the equipment at the centre of the prime mover to have a better balance for the entire unit.

IMPORTANT Inspect the work area to ensure there are no obstacles, manholes or similar.

3 - Correct the tipping very slowly, bringing the equipment to a flat position.

4 - Release the prime mover from the braking device to start the work.

5 - To begin, move slowly and then increase the speed constantly to a convenient.

4 - OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

EQUIPMENT - PRIME MOVER COUPLING The equipment must be mounted on the prime mover’s arm instead of the standard bucket, using any of a number of connection types. Apart from the general instructions given below, the procedures outlined in the prime mover’s manual (see specific section on the application of equipment) must also be followed.

Example of the operations that must be carried out for a standard coupling: 1 - Position the equipment in the non-operative position and with its support feet on flat, compact ground, away from ditches, fuel stores, electrical substations or any other hazard risk.

2 - Slowly bring the arm of the prime mover towards the equipment in order to position the attachment plate below the upper lip of the equipment coupling. Move forwards until it is resting on the lip.

3 - Operate the prime mover hydraulic controls in order to bring the support plate towards you until it is completely resting on the coupling area of the equipment.

4 - Turn off the engine of the prime mover, remove the key from the ignition and push the two levers to engage the quick coupling lock pins. Check that the levers are locked in the retaining position and that the pins are fitted properly inside the slots on the equipment's coupling.

5 - In case of hydraulic coupling do follow the same procedure of standard coupling, except for point 4. When the prime mover has hydraulic coupling, the locking pins need to be activated by the operator from the prime mover. The operator needs to check if the pins are in place correctly at the end of the procedure.

Þ DANGER Do not lift the equipment off the ground until you have completed the operations described above.

5 - TRANSPORT OPERATIONS

5 - TRANSPORT OPERATIONS DELIVERY AND UNLOADING The equipment is normally transported and delivered securely fastened to a pallet, in a stable position, and duly wrapped in plastic sheeting. The type of packing, though, may vary according to the desired means of transport and the destination. For carriage by air, the equipment is packed inside a suitable wooden crate. All the equipment despatched is checked prior to delivery to the customer.

NOTE On receipt of the equipment, check it for any damage (major breakages or dents) caused during transportation. If any are found, the carrier must be alerted immediately and the statement “Accepted conditionally” must be added to the delivery note.

In the event of damage, give notice of the fact to the carrier in writing within 7 days of receipt of the equipment.

If, upon delivery, major damage caused during transportation is noted, or any parts that should be included are found to be missing, CNH INDUSTRIAL must be notified of the situation promptly.

It is also essential to check the equipment delivered against the information given in the itemised shipping document.

Þ DANGER •

The packed unit must be unloaded with the utmost care using lifting means with a suitable capacity (e.g. fork lift truck or other appropriate means). Next, the entire unit must be placed on a flat, stable surface.

•

All load handling operations must be carried out in compliance with the regulations in force concerning safety in the workplace.

IMPORTANT! Dispose of the packing in compliance with the regulations in force in the country of use; do not fly tip it.

5 - TRANSPORT OPERATIONS

HANDLING, TRANSPORTATION AND LIFTING

Þ DANGER If the type approval of the prime mover to travel on normal roads does not extend to the equipment, it must be removed before transportation on open roads.

Only small movements may be performed on the worksite when the equipment is mounted on the prime mover. During these movements, shifting must be carried out at low speeds with the equipment located close to the ground and the prime mover arms as closed up as possible; all people and things must be kept a safe distance away.

The equipment must always be removed from the prime mover before the vehicle is driven up loading ramps. The equipment must not be operated during handling.

Handling over short stretches (in the workplace): •

Use the prime mover, leaving the equipment attached.

•

Secure the equipment to a pallet, and handle it with a fork lift truck or a transpallet.

Handling over long stretches: •

Secure the equipment to a pallet, using a fork lift truck or a transpallet for handling, then load it onto the means of transport (lorry, train, etc.).

Lifting from one surface to another (e.g. to load it onto a lorry): •

Use a lifting crane or truck with a suitable capacity for the weight specified on the “EC” plate. Connect the cables or chains at the four points shown with the relative decals. When lifting, use hooks with the “EC” marking.

Þ DANGER •

Check that the capacities of the cables, chains and lifting and transportation means in general are compatible with the equipment weight specified on the “EC’’ data plate.

•

When attached to the prime mover, keep the equipment close to ground level (safety height: 0.5 m) during handling.

•

Shifting is only permitted on flat, or slightly loose g r o u n d , a n d a s l o n g a s s ta b i l i t y i s n e v e r jeopardised. Check that the pallet on which it will be stored is in suitable condition.

For example when laying asphalt on footpaths and pavements or covering excavations at the side of the road.

6 - WORKING OPERATION

RAISING THE EQUIPMENT The equipment has support points for raising operations. Use chains which are in good condition and big and strong enough to support the weight and size of the equipment. Use suitable approvaltested raising equipment.

Þ DANGER Do not use the prime mover to raise the equipment. This would create very dangerous imbalance conditions.

ASSEMBLY OF THE EQUIPMENT Fit the equipment to the hooks on the prime mover and tighten securely. Connect the oil pipes to the hydraulic plant.

Þ DANGER Make sure that both the equipment and the prime mover couplings correctly to prevent the disconnection. Raise the equipment after to perform the coupling operations.

Þ DANGER Before leaving the operator position on the prime mover and approaching the equipment, you must do the following: •

Lower the equipment until it is in contact with the ground.

•

Stop the prime mover engine.

•

Remove the starter key from the dashboard.

•

Block the prime mover using the hand brake.

ADJUSTMENT OF THE TILTING When laying asphalt on sloping roads, working outside the overall dimensions, you will have to adjust the inclination of the blade.

To do this, use the handles at the far sides of the equipment.

Stop the prime mover engine.

•

Remove the starter key from the dashboard.

•

Block the prime mover using the hand brake.

USING THE EQUIPMENT OUTSIDE THE OVERALL DIMENSIONS On the basis of the prime mover used, a calculation must be made of how much it is possible to move the equipment laterally.

This is because, as operating the equipment causes resistance to forward movement during work, situations could occur where the equipment and prime mover combination could tend to yaw.

To ensure this does not occur, a simple calculation must be made.

Multiply the value of the wheelbase by the weight of the prime mover, to obtain value M (kg*m).

On the basis of this value you can traverse the mobile part of the equipment by value d (m) in the table.

Value d represents the movement of the axis of the part mobile from the external part of the wheel of the prime mover.

DISMANTLING THE EQUIPMENT To dismantle the equipment from the prime mover, carry out the operations described above in the reverse order.

1 - Lower the support feet.

Þ DANGER Before leaving the operator position on the prime mover and approaching the equipment, you must do the following: •

Lower the equipment until it is in contact with the ground.

•

Stop the prime mover engine.

•

Remove the starter key from the dashboard.

•

Block the prime mover using the hand brake.

2 - Disconnect the couplings.

3 - Release the connection chain or chains fitted on the prime mover.

4 - Start the prime mover and proceeding in the reverse order to assembling the equipment, move away from the same.

IMPORTANT! Move away from the equipment very slowly and check that you have disconnected all the couplings for the specific application. If you have not, stop immediately.

7 - MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT! • All maintenance work on the equipment, as well as inspections and cleaning, must be carried out with the equipment detached from the prime mover and positioned on the ground (for designated worker, see the maintenance schedule).

•

Maintenance operations must be carried out in a suitable place, in compliance with the safety regulations in force.

•

Clean all the equipment’s parts thoroughly before beginning any maintenance work on it.

•

Appropriate personal protection equipment must be used throughout maintenance.

FITTING ADVICE - The screws must be lubricated with engine oil.

- For parts fastened with two or more screws, the screws must be tightened progressively and alternately until the prescribed torque is reached; - If flat washers are needed, steel washers with a minimum resistance of 80 kg/mm² must be used.

7 - MAINTENANCE

MACHINE CLEANING Use approved, neutral detergents. Clean the equipment with a high pressure jet of water.

LUBRICATION Grease nipples are installed for the sliding bushings of the sides (No. 2 upper and No. 2 lower) and the central oscillation bushing (No. 1).

To perform lubrication, inject NLGI 2 - EP lithium grease until all dirty grease has been expelled.

IMPORTANT! Clean the grease nipples thoroughly before connecting the grease pump.

Once greasing has been completed, remove all dirty grease which has been expelled to prevent damaging deposits of dirt and debris.

7 - MAINTENANCE

HOSES INSPECTION Check the condition of the hoses and the crimping of the fittings. If a hose shows signs of leaks, breakages, swellings, abrasions, etc., it must be replaced.

Warnings concerning hose replacement 1 - Clean the working area to avoid dirt entering the hydraulic circuit.

2 - The hose must be replaced by a maintenance engineer, who should use the necessary accident-prevention equipment.

3 - The new hose must have the same features and dimensions as the previous one.

IMPORTANT! The new hose must be built to withstand the pressure indicated on the “CE” plate.

CHECKING THE WEAR OF THE SIDES Perform a visual check on the wear of the parts of the sides in contact.

If they require replacement, contact the reseller from whom you purchased the asphalt float.

NUT AND BOLT TIGHTNESS TEST Check all the nuts and bolts are securely fastened and, if any parts have worked loose, tighten them. For tightening torques, see the chart.

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY ASSESSMENT Clean the equipment carefully prior to the inspection. Inspect the bearing framework visually to check its integrity, focusing particularly on the welding. If you notice any weakening or small cracks, contact an authorised dealer to have it examined more closely.
