Two copies of the After Delivery Check are in the back of this manual. One copy is for you and one copy is for the dealer. Make sure that your Case dealer does the After Delivery Check after the first 20 hours of machine operation.

If you service the machine with the loader 11ft arms raised, always use the support strut.

1. Empty the loader bucket, raise the loader lift arms to maximum height and stop the engine.

2. Remove the rear pin from the support strut and lower the support strut onto the cylinder rod.

3. Install the rear pin In the support strut.

4. Slowly lower the lift arms onto the support strut.

If you do not follow this procedure, you can cause serious injury or death If the loader arms are lowered by accident.

INSTRUMENT PANEL

1. INDICATOR LAMP FOR LEFT TURN: This lamp will illuminate when the signal switch is pushed to the left with the key switch in the ON position.

8. INDICATOR LAMP FOR RIGHT TURN: This lamp will illuminate when the turn signal switch is pushed to the right with the key switch in the ON position.

9. TACHOMETER: The tachometer shows the engine speed. The speed is measured in revolutions per minute (rpm). Each number on the gauge is equal to 1000 rpm. Each space on the gauge is equal to 200 rpm. To help get a longer engine life, it is recommended that the engine be run in the green area of the gauge.

10. ENGINE HOURMETER: The hourmeter is located in the center of the tachometer. This gauge shows the hours and tenths of an hour the engine has run.

11. OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE (TORQUE CONVERTER): The normal operating temperature of the converter oil is in the green area of the gauge. If the gauge needle goes into the red area, select a lower transmission speed. If the needle remains in the red area, stop the machine, move the direction control lever to the NEUTRAL position and run the engine at full throttle. If this procedure does not reduce the temperature of the oil, check the oil level and check for obstructions in the radiator.

NOTE: If the gauge needle goes into the red area, you will also hear a warning buzzer.

12. AIR PRESSURE GAUGE: This gauge shows the air pressure in the brake system. The air pressure is normal when the gauge needle .t"\7\...t.is in the green area of the gauge. If the air pressure decreases and ~ the gauge needle goes into the red area of the gauge, the warning buzzer will make a noise. If the air pressure continues to decrease, the parking brake will automatically engage.

CONTROLS AND INSTRUMENTS --~-----13. FUEL LEVEL GAUGE: This gauge shows the amount of fuel that is in the fuel tank.

14. WATER TEMPERATURE GAUGE: This gauge shows the temperature of the coolant in the engine cooling system. The tempera~ ture of the coolant is normal when the gauge needle is in the green area of the gauge. If the gauge needle goes into the red area, stop the ~ engine and check the coolant level, debris on the radiator, or thermostat that does not operate correctly.

15. BUTTON FOR ETHER STARTING AID (IF EQUIPPED): The ether starting aid puts a measured amount of ether into the engine during cold temperature starting. Turn the key to the START position and push the ether starting air button. A measured amount of ether is injected into the engine each time the starting aid button is pushed. Ether can only be injected into the engine when the key switch is in the START position and when the engine temperature is cold. See page 58 for instructions.

CONTROLSANDINSTRUMENTS __________________ 16. DIRECTION CONTROL LEVER: This lever controls the travel direction of the machine. The center position is NEUTRAL. To travel forward, push the lever completely forward. To travel in reverse, pull the lever completely rearward. The direction control lever must be in the NEUTRAL position before you can start the engine. See page 63.

17. SWITCH FOR HEAD LAMPS AND TAIL LAMPS: Pull out the switch to illuminate the head lamps and tail lamps. Push the switch in for the OFF position.

18. SWITCH FOR REAR FLOOD LAMPS: Pull out the switch to illuminate the rear flood lamps. Push in the switch for the OFF position.

19. SWITCH FOR FLASHER LAMPS: Pull out the switch to illuminate the flasher lamps. Push the switch in for the OFF position.

20. SWITCH FOR THE ROTATING BEACON: Pull out the switch to actuate the rotating beacon. Push in the switch for the OFF position.

21. SWITCH FOR THE BACKHOE DIPPER LAMP: Pull out the switch to illuminate the backhoe dipper lamp. Push the switch in for the OFF position.

22. LAMP TEST SWITCH (AIR FILTER AND HYDRAULIC FILTER): Before you start the engine, turn the key switch to the ON position and push the switch to the right. The air filter and hydraulic filter warning lamp will illuminate. If one or both of the warning lamps do not illuminate, see page 116 and replace the bulbs. Release the switch and the switch will return to the OFF position.

23. TRANSMISSION CONTROL LEVER: This control lever has three positions, FIRST, SECOND and THIRD. You can shift the transmission from FIRST to SECOND and from SECOND to THIRD at any machine speed. Before you shift from THIRD to SECOND and from SECOND to FIRST, always reduce the machine speed to 1/2 before you shift.

24. HORN BUTTON: Push the button to actuate the horn.

25. SWITCH FOR TURN SIGNAL: With the key switch in the ON position, move the switch control lever to the right to signal a right turn. Move the switch control lever to the left to signal a left turn.

Move the switch control lever to the center to stop the signal.

(2) ON - Turn the key clockwise to the ON position. Before you start the engine, check the condition of the warning lamps for engine oil pressure, alternator, clutch pressure, and brake engaged. See page 116 if one or more of the warning lamps do not illuminate.

(3) START - Turn the key completely clockwise to the START position to actuate the starter motor. After the engine starts, release the key. The key will return automatically to the ON position.

27. LEFT BRAKE PEDAL - When the brake pedal lock is released and the clutch cutout is in DRIVE, you can use this brake pedal to help turn the machine to the left. DRIVE POSITION - When you push the left brake pedal, the transmission remains engaged.

NEUTRAL POSITION - This position disengages the transmission when the left brake pedal is pushed. As the bucket is filled with material, the engine will run slower. Push the left brake pedal to give full hydraulic power to the loader. After the bucket is full, move the direction control to REVERSE and release the brakes.

32. HAND THROTTLE: Push the hand throttle up to increase the engine speed. Push the hand throttle down to decrease engine speed. Use the hand throttle only when you operate the backhoe or when you service the machine.

Air flow and Pressure in the Cab When the blower is running, fresh air is being put into the cab even if the rear louver is closed. It is recommended that you do not completely close the front louvers. Make sure that you check the cab air filter at frequent intervals when you operate the machine during extreme dust conditions.

To keep the air inside the cab as clean as posible during extreme dust conditions, adjust the cab controls for maximum pressure. See Maximum Pressure in the above chart.

Maximum Air Flow and Maximum Cooling

temperature control. If ice does block the core, you will feel a reduction of air flow in the cab. Close the rear louver, turn the temperature control to OFF and run the blower in HIGH. Other causes of ice can be a restricted air filter in the cab or loss of refrigerant in the cooling system.

1. Open the rear louvers, select high blower and adjust for maximum cool.

2. After the cab temperature is at the correct level for comfort, adjust the blower speed and temperature control as required.

Maximum Heat 1. Run the engine until the gauge needle of the temperature gauge is in the green area.

3. To lower the temperature at your leg level, open the rear louvers and adjust the front louvers so that the air flow is directed down.

Walk-Around Inspection

Starting the Engine

Do the following items each day before you start the engine.

1. Make sure the seat is turned around to the LOADER position.

1. Check for leaks under the machine.

2. Adjust the seat and fasten the seat belt.

3. Make sure the parking brake is applied, the direction control lever is in NEUTRAL, and the engine hand throttle is pushed down to the IDLE position.

Check the tires for damage.

3. Check the machine for broken, missing, or loose parts.

4. Clean any debris from the machine. Make sure the radiator area is clean.

4. Turn the key switch to the ON position and check the engine oil pressure, alternator, clutch pressure, and brake engaged warning lamps. These lamps must illuminate.

Push the warning lamp switch to the right and check the two filter warning lamps. These two lamps must also illuminate.

5. Clean or replace any safety or instructional decals that cannot be read.

6. Clean the steps, hand rails, and operators compartment.

7. See the Maintenance Schedule on page 97 and do the items under Every 10 Hours of Operation or Each Day Whichever Occurs First.

NOTE: If the weather is cold, see page 57 for methods to he/ p start the engine.

5. Push the foot throttle 1/4 down and turn the key switch to the START position to engage the starter motor.

NOTE: If this is a new machine, or a machine with a rebuilt engine, see Run-In Period on page 96 for additional information.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ IMPORTANT: If you must temporarily park the machine on a hillside, put the front of the machine toward the bottom of the hill. Make sure the machine is behind an object that will not move.

6. If the engine starts and stops, do not engage the starter motor again until the starter motor stops turning.

NOTE: Do not operate the starter motor more than 10 to 15 seconds at one time. Let the starter motor cool for three minutes before you engage the starter motor again. While the starter motor is engaged, white or black smoke must be seen at the exhaust pipe. If no smoke is seen, check the fuel supply.

Lower the loader bucket to the ground.

3. Apply the parking brake and shift the transmission shuttle control to NEUTRAL.

6. After the engine starts, check the instruments to make sure the gauge indications are correct. Run the engine at 1000 rpm until the coolant temperature is warm.

Movethebackhoe into the TRANSposition or lower the backhoe bucket to the ground and stop the engine. See page 86 for backhoe transport position.

Engine Speed

5. Run the engine at idle speed for two minutes or more, if the engine has been working at full load. This procedure will cool the engine parts evenly.

Do not run the engine at idle speed for long periods. This can cause a low operating temperature.

Low operating temperature can cause acids and deposits in the engine oil. It is recommended that you run the engine at full throttle when operating conditions permit and when safe.

6. Turn the key switch to OFF to stop the engine. Remove the key.

Parking the Machine and Stopping the Engine 1. When the work day is finished, make sure the machine is parked on level ground. The machine must be on level ground before you do scheduled maintenance.

1. Make sure the parking brake is engaged and the transmission control are in NEUTRAL.

NOTE: Do not operate the starter motor for more than 10 to 15 seconds at one time. Wait three minutes so the charge in the battery can increase and the starter motor can cool.

2. Get another person to help you start the engine.

3. Push the foot throttle completely down.

5. When the engine starts, run at 1000 rpm until the coolant temperature is warm.

STARTING THE ENGINE

IMPORTANT RULES WHEN USING ETHER

The ether start aid injects a measured amount of ether into the engine during cold weather starting.

1. Know the correct method for starting your engine with ether.

2. If you weld, grind, or use a cutting torch on the machine, always remove the starting fluid container from the machine. Use compressed air to remove any ether fumes from the area.

1. See page 55 and use the correct procedure to start the engine.

2. Push the foot throttle 1/2 open and hold until engine starts.

3.

3. Do not breathe the ether vapor or let the ether touch your skin.

Actuate the starter motor.

4. Push and release the ether start button. When the engine starts, release the button. If the engine does not start after two attempts, check the supply of ether in the container.

4. Keep the starting fluid container above the reach of children.

5. When the temperature is above 35° to 40° F (1.6° to 4.4° C). remove the starting fluid container from the machine.

NOTE: The ether start aid system will operate only when the engine is cold.

IMPORTANT: Before you replace the ether container, read the instructions and warnings on the container. See page 128.

6. Before you discard an empty container, use rubber gloves and push the valve in the end of the container to remove any pressure. Do not make a hole in the container and do not put the container in a fire.

7. Do not store extra containers in the operators area.

8. Always read the instructions on the ether container.

If the work area is rough, make it level before you start the job. The job wi II take less ti me if there is a smooth work area for the machine and a level parking area for the trucks.

Fill the loader bucket with dirt.

3. The engine speed will decrease as the load in the loader bucket increases.

4. Push the brake pedals. The transmission is disengaged and maximum engine power is given to the loader.

Keep the transport distances as short as possible. Shorter distances make a shorter work cycle.

Loose Material 5. When the bucket is full, release the brakes. The transmission is engaged again.

Use the bucket level indicator to make sure the bottom of the bucket is level. Put the lift arm control in the FLOAT position and move the machine forward into the material.

When the speed of the machine starts to decrease raise the loader and roll back the bucket See photos beginning on next page.

Preparation for the Job Make the work cycle as short as possible. Correct location of the truck is very important for efficient operation.

Return-To-Dig After you dump the load, use the Return-To-Dig system to put the bucket in position for another dig cycle.

The Return-To-Dig uses both the and the ROLLBACK positions.

To operate, put the lift arm control in the ROLLBACK position and the FLOAT position. The bucket will roll backward until the bottom of the bucket is level. Then, the bucket will stop automatically.

When you force the bucket to dig a load that is too large, you will cause a "hydraulic stall" (dipper control lever pulled back and the bucket is not moving). The main relief valve of the hydraulic system will make a noise when "hydraulic stall" occurs. "Hydraulic stall" will cause cycle times to be longer and will also cause the temperature of the hydraulic oil to increase.

Lifting With the Backhoe The backhoe is not a crane. For this reason, always be very careful when you lift a load with the backhoe. Use the backhoe lifting charts in the specifications section of this manual and read the instructions below before you lift a load with the backhoe.

b. Use a cable or sling to fasten the load to fasten the load to the end of the dipper at the bucket pivot pin. c. Lift the load with the backhoe so the load is one or two inches (25 to 50 mm) above the ground. d. Swing the load all the way to one side. e. Move the load away from the machine. Make sure you keep the load one to two inches (25 to 50 mm) above the ground.

Change the engine oil and replace the engine oil filter every 250 hours of operation. See the topic Systemgard Lubricant Analysis Service on page 95.

Park the machine on a level surface when you check the oil level or when you drain the engine oil.

Oil Level 1. If possible, change the oil when the oil is warm. You will remove more contamination from the engine ·Iubrication system with warm oil than with cold oil.

Check the engine oil level each day or after every 10 hours of engine operation. Make sure the engine is not running when you check the oil level.

2. Have a container that will hold 5 gallons (15.1 litres).

NOTE: If the engine has been running, make sure you wait for at least five minutes before you check the oil level.

3. Remove the drain plug to drain the oil.

2. The oil level must be between the FULL and LOW marks on the dipstick.

5. Clean the gasket surface on the filter head with a clean cloth.

13. Start the engine and run the engine at idle speed for several minutes.

6. Applya thin layer of clean oil on the gasket of the new oil filter.

7. Install the filter. Use your hands to tighten the filter 1/2 turn after the filter makes contact with the filter head.

14. Stop the engine.

15. Wait approximately five minutes and check the oil level. If necessary, add oil.

8. Loosen the filter approximately one turn.

9. Tighten the filter until the filter is touching the filter head and then tighten 1/2 to 3/4 turn. DO NOT use a strap wrench to tighten the filter.

The normal engine oil change interval is every 250 hours of operation. Operating conditions, quality of the engine oil and sulpher content of the fuel can change this interval. It is recommended that you use the Systemgard™ Lubricant Analysis service. See your Case Dealer.

10. Install the drain plug.

MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM NOTE: After you fill the cooling system, mix the ethylene glycol and water completely by running the engine at operating temperature for approximately five minutes. This procedure must be done when the machine is in temperatures below 32° F (0° C).

A mixture of 50% ethylene glycol and 50% water must be used in this machine. This mixture is used if the lowest ambient temperature is above -34° F (-37° C). If the ambient temperature is lower, adjust the mixture. It is recommended that ethylene glycol and water be used in your machine all year.

RADIATOR

Check the coolant reservoir fluid level every 50 hours of operation, when the coolant is cold and the engine is stopped. Do not remove the radiator cap during this check. The coolant level must be between the FULL and ADD marks on the reservoi r.

Add coolant as required to the coolant reservoir only.

Check the radiator coolant level every 250 hours of operation when the coolant is cold and the engine is stopped. Remove the cover plate and radiator cap; the coolant level must be up to the radiator opening.

NOTE: If the radiator coolant level is low and the coolant reservoir level is at the FULL mark, check for air leaks in the hose between the radiator and coolant reservoir.

COMPRESSED AIR

To wash the element, use 0-1400 Detergent (Case part number A40910) and water. Read the instructions on the container. After you wash the element, use clean water to remove the detergent. Let the element become completely dry before you install the element in the machine. Do not use compressed air to dry the element.

Use compressed air that is not more than 30 psi (206 kPa, 2.1 kg/cm2) at the nozzle. Use the compressed air inside the primary element and 1 inch (25 mm) or more in distance from the primary element.

Cleaning the primary element with compresed air will not remove carbon or soot.

Filters Replace the fuel filters after every 500 hours of operation.

Air must be removed from the fuel system if one or more of the following conditions occurs:

1. Close the shutoff valves at the fuel tank.

a. If the engine stops because of no fuel in the tank.

2. Clean the filter head and the outside of the fuel filters.

3. Loosen the drain valve and drain the first stage filter.

4. Turn the filters counterclockwise and remove from thefilterhead.

Discard the old filters.

5. Apply a thin layer of clean oil to the gasket of each new filter.

4. Turn the filter clockwise with your hand until the gasket contacts the head of the filter assembly. Continue to tighten the filter for 1/3 turn.

IMPORTANT: Do not use a filter wrench to install the filter. A fluid leak can occur if the filter is dented by the filter wrench.

2. Use a strap wrench and remove the old filter. Turn the filter counterclockwise to remove. Discard the old filter.

5. Start the engine and check for leaks around the filter.

3. Lubricate the gasket on the new filter with clean Case TCH Fluid and install the new filter.

Check the oil level of the transmission every SO hours of operation or each week. The dipstick is located on the rightside ofthe engine.

REAR AXLE The differential and planetary ends of the rear axle have a common oil level. The gears, bearings, washers and other components of the rear axle prevent the rapid movement of the oil between the planetary ends and the center bowl of the differential. Oil must be correctly installed, especially if the machine is to be moved immediately after an oil change.

To check the oil level of the rear axle, do the following: 1. Put the machine on a level surface. Put the rear wheels in the position shown in the photograph at left.

Use the stabilizers of the backhoe to raise the rear of the machine. Rotate the wheels. When the wheels are in the correct position, lower the ma.chine. The planetary ends are marked to show the correct wheel position.

Oil Level Check the oi I level of the rear axle at each planetary every 250 hours of operation or each month, whichever comes first.

2. Remove the oil level/fill plug from each planetary. The oil must be level with the bottom of the hole.

3. If the oil level is below the bottom of the hole in either planetary, check the oil level at the center bowl.

If the oil is below the bottom of the hole, add enough oil to raise the oil level up to the bottom of the hole.

The air reservoir is located below the operators compartment on the right side of the machine. The air reservoir has a draincock for removal of water from the tank. Open this draincock every day and allow water to flow out. Then, close the draincock.

Check the tension on the air compressor drive belt every 250 hours of operation. Check the tension of the fan belts at the same time to make sure the air compressor drive belt is receiving full drive power from the fan belts. See page 135.

CLEANING AND REPLACEMENT Every 1000 hours of operation have the air compressor cylinder head removed and cleaned by your Case dealer.

Every 3000 hours of operation have the air compressor either rebuilt or replaced by your Case dealer.

Fill the jar with only pure methyl alcohol. The alcohol must be free of any inhibitor.

Replace the plastic jar with a glass jar full of alcohol. When the air compressor runs, air bubbles will come out of the evaporator tube at the bottom of the jar and go through the alcohol. If no air bubbles are seen, check the condition of the gaskets. After checking, install the plastic jar again.

SERVICING Every 250 hours of operation clean the screen of the alcohol evaporator. Remove the housing with screen and clean in solvent. Dry the screen by using compressed air.

The capacity of the evaporator jar is approximately one U.S. pint (0.5 litre). Learn how often to check the level of the alcohol by doing the following. Check the level of the alcohol each day during the first few days of use to find the amount used for the amount of time operated.

Every 2000 hours of operation or yearly, whichever comes first, have your Case dealer disassemble and clean the alcohol evaporator and replace all gaskets.

10. Thoroughly lubricate each bearing with number 2 wheel bearing grease.

15. Adjust the bearings as instructed under Wheel Bearing Adjustment.

11. Put grease in the hub bore and on each bearing cup.

16. Install the cotter pin (2) and the hub cap (1).

12. Install the inner bearing cone (9) in the inner bearing cup (8). Install a new hub seal with the seal lip away from the bearing. Use a driver that contacts the 0.0. of the seal. Press or drive the seal into the hub until the seal is against the shoulder in the bore.

Wheel Bearing Adjustment 1. Rotate the wheel while tightening the slotted adjusting nuts (3) to a torque of 75 to 85 pound-feet (101 to 115Nm).

13. Install a new inner seal half (11) on the spindle with the seal lip toward the flange on the spindle. Use a driver that contacts the 1.0. of the seal only and drive the seal against the flange. Fill the seals (10 and 11) with grease.

2. When the torque is as specified, back the nut off 1/6 turn maximum and install a new cotter pin (2).

MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION LOADER RETURN·TO-DIG ADJUSTMENT 7. Move the loader control lever to the ROLLBACK position. The control lever will remain in this position.

1. Park the machine on a level surface.

2. Lower the loader bucket to the ground and make sure the bottom of the bucket is at the required digging angle.

3. Apply the parking brake and stop the engine.

4. Tighten the lock nut and cap screws for the idler bracket.

5. Check the tension of the drive belt.

6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 until the tension is correct.

CLEANING THE FILTER The filter can be cleaned by three methods: A. Hit the filter lightly on a flat surface - Do not use force.

B. Clean with compressed air.

C. Wash with water.

METHOD A - When most of the dirt is dust, this method can be used to clean the filter. Hit the dirty side of the filter against a flat surface. Do not use force that can cause damage to the filter.

COMPRESSED AIR METHOD B - The compressed air method is used if most of the dirt is dust. Move the flow of air up and down the clean side of the filter opposite to the air flow arrows shown on the element.

IMPORTANT: The maximum air pressure at the nozzle must not be more than 30 psi (206 kPa). Too much air pressure will cause damage to the filter.

MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION METHOD C - If the filter has heavy dirt and soot, use the water washing method to clean.

Air Conditioning Refrigerant Check

1. Wash the element in water using 0-1400 detergent, part number A40910. Mix two ounces (57 grams) of cleaner to one gallon (3.8Iitres) of water at 70° F to 100° F (21 ° to 38° C).

Before warm weather begins or when the air conditioning system does not work correctly, check the condition of the refrigerant. Look in the sight glass window of the receiver-d rier.

2. Wash the filter for 15 minutes.

Completely remove the cleaner from the element with clean water. Do not use water pressure of more than 40 PSI (276kPa) at the nozzle if you use a hose.

3.

Permit the filter to become completely dry in the air before use in the cab. The filter needs 24 to 72 hours to dry.

IMPORT ANT: Do not use compressed air to dry the filter. Get a second filter to use while you dry the washed filter.

MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION Lubrication of the Air Conditioning Compressor Seals

Check the sight glass at ambient temperatures above 70° F (21 ° C) when the system is operating. After about five to ten minutes of compressor operation, you should see no or very few bubbles when the system is working correctly.

Operate the air conditioner once every 250 hours to lubricate the compressor seals. Turn the air conditioning control to Maximum for at least 15 minutes. In temperatures below 32° F (0° C) put a cover over the air conditioning condenser. This will make sure the refrigerant and lubricants in the system will be at operating temperature.

If you see bubbles in the sight glass, the system needs refrigerant.

If you see foam in the sight glass, the system has very little refrigerant. If the sight glass shows oil streaks, there is no refrigerant in the system.

See your Case Dealer if you have any questions.

9. Change the engine oil and replace the oil filter.

If the machine is to be in storage for more than 30 days, park the machine inside a building. If a building is not available, park the machine in a dry area on planks and cover the machine with a waterproof covering.

10. Drain the cooling system. Leave the drain valves open and do not tighten the radiator cap. Put a Do Not Operate tag in the cab.

11. Clean the primary element for the air filter.

Wash the machine.

12. Cover the exposed steering cylinder rods, equipment valve spools, and transmission valve spools with Case Rust and Corrosion Preventive (Part Number B17510).

2. Lubricate the machine at all grease fittings.

3. Paint any areas where the paint has been damaged.

13. Charge the batteries. Remove the batteries from the machine and put the batteries on a wooden pallet on a cool dry area. If possible, keep the batteries in a building where the temperature is above freezing (32° F, O°C).

4. Move all hydraulic controls to relieve any pressure in the hydraulic circuits. Also loosen the reservoirfill cap to remove air pressure.

5.

Drain the fuel tank.

NOTE: Check the batteries periodically for the correct electrolyte level. Test the electrolyte with a hydrometer. When the hydrometer reading is near 1.215, charge the batteries.

6. Put approximately 2 U.S. gallons (8 litres) of diesel flushing oil in the fuel tank. Run the engine until the exhaust smoke is blue-white.

7. Drain the flushing oil from the fuel tank.

8. Put one tablespoon (15 ml) of Shell Oil Company VPI crystals in the fuel tank.

7. Use a petroleum base solvent and remove the Case Rust and Corrosion Preventive from the hydraulic cylinder rods and spools.

Do not start the engine until steps 1 through 10 have been done.

2. Put coolant in the engine cooling system.

9. Fill the fuel tank.

3. Check the condition of the drive belts. Replace if required.

11. Start the engine. It is important that you use the procedure on page 55 for starting the engine.

Check the engine oil level.

5. Check the hydraulic oil level and tighten the reservoir fill cap.

6. Check the oil level for the transmission.

SEAT BELTS Carefully read the following seat belt service information.

3. Make sure that the mounting bolts of the seat belts are tight. See page 151 in this manual.

1 . Keep the seat belts away from objects that can cause damage.

4. Keep the seat belts clean. Wash the seat belts only in soap and water.

2. Check the seat belts for damage. Replace all parts that are damaged.

5. Do not put the seat belts in bleach ordye. You will make the seat belts weak.

After every 500 hours of operation, do the following: 1. Check the torque of the ROPS mounting bolts. If necessary, tighten the bolts to the correct torque. See page 149 and 150.

Seat Belt

2. Check the operator's seat and the mounting part for the seat belt.

Tighten the bolts to the correct torque. Replace parts that have wear or damage. See page 151.

The seat belt is an important part of your ROPS. You must wear the seat belt at all times when you operate the machine.

3. Keep seat belts clean and dry.

Clean with a soap solution and warm water. Do not use bleach ordye. You can damage the seat belt.

SPECIFICATIONS DIESEL FUEL Fuel Storage

Use No.2 diesel fuel in the engine of this machine. The use of other fuels can cause the loss of engine power and high fuel consumption.

If you keep fuel in storage for a period of time, you can get foreign material or water in the fuel storage tank. Many engine problems are caused by water in the fuel.

In very cold temperatures. a mixture of No.1 and No.2 diesel fuels is temporarily permitted. See the following Note.

Keep the fuel storage tank outside and keep the fuel as cool as possible.

Remove water from the storage container at regular periods of time.

NOTE: See your fuel dealer for winter fuel requirements in your area.

If the temperature of the fuel lowers below the cloud point (wax appearance pOint). wax crystals in the fuel will cause the engine to lose power or not start.

Fill the fuel tank at the end of the daily operating period to prevent condensation in the fuel tank.

The diesel fuel used in this machine must meet the specifications in the chart below or Specification D975-81 of the American Society for Testing and Materials.
