Pressing the machine stop (Fig. 10) will shutdown the pump, causing the miner to shutdown. To restart the machine after striking the machine stop, follow normal pump start up procedure (see Start procedure in this chapter).

The electrical switches (Fig. 11) that control the machine operation are a group of push button switches located on the control case.

WARNING! Manual operation of the Continuous Miner is not allowed for production operation unless the miner has an operator’s pit and canopy. Manual operation is generally for troubleshooting and maintenance under roof support. Operating the Continuous Miner manually from the operator’s station may result in serious injury or death.

The “PUMP START” switch starts the pump motor. To start the motor, depress the switch.

The “PUMP STOP” switch stops the pump motor. To stop the motor, depress the switch.

Starting the cutter motor is a two-hand start: push the “PUMP START” and the “CUTTER START” switch at the same time. The left cutter motor will start first and, after a preset time, the right cutter motor will start.

The “CUTTER STOP” switch shuts down both cutter motors. Both motors stop when the “CUTTER STOP” switch is depressed.

The conveyor motors cannot be started until the pump motor is started. Depressing the “CONVEYOR FWD” switch starts the conveyor motors. The forward direction of the conveyor chain is always away from the cutter head.

The conveyor motors cannot be started until the pump motor is started. Depress and hold the “CONVEYOR REV” switch to start the conveyor motors. When the conveyor motors are running in reverse, the conveyor chain is moving in the direction of the cutter head. The conveyor will continue to run in reverse until the “CONVEYOR REV” switch is released. The conveyor cannot be started in the forward direction until a preset amount of time has elapsed from running the conveyor in reverse.
